- 2005 Sebring convertible top replacement, I couldn’t find any good info on top replacement so thought I’d do a video for anyone wanting to try. This was a first time for me, so I hope it helps someone.

Good luck with it, same thing here the shops wanted way too much. So I tackled the job myself, take your time and take pictures as you pull things apart and don’t give up.
I'm in the process of gathering everything for the job. Do you recall which staple size is the best? 1/4 or 3/8? Thanks so much for your help!

Nice. I'm in the process of this from last year. I'm about 75% done but as you said. It is a bear of a project. The main part is what you mentioned, the rear panels tighten so the wrinkles come out. I priced this at first and was turned off because of the cost for a few years. Then the top got to a point of it going to fail at the back window and leak. So, now I know why the cost to replace this was so high! Awesome job, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your reply, now I was in the same boat as a lot of folks. The car is old but still runs good, but the car is worth only $2000 and the guy at the shop told me $1500 for a top and it was a 1 day job for him. Now if the top is $400 then he makes $1100 for a day, that’s not right. So time to try it myself and there was a lot of on and off for adjustments but I feel good I did it myself. Thanks for watching

I’m probably going to be replacing my convertible top soon unless you’re for hire ???😊Im a sous chef so I can cook you dinner for you and your wife every night❤ until it’s done--I got this car about the same time you were doing the video -it belonged to the Mitchum family --yep her Uncle was Robert Mitchum her father, John Mitchum her aunt Gloria Graham, so when she left me the car, I had a new engine put in. It’s still has a five year warranty, and I haven’t even driven it but 800 miles in the first 3years on the new engine, gonna make it a Hollywood silver screen car, I only drive with top down, sheer bliss --except that I had 2 go back home 2 Oregon ☔️ 🌧️ 😢.

Hey I have a question my convertible hood is old and peeling which k believe is making it leak on both the driver and passenger side is there something I can do to stop it that doesn’t involve a new hood . Having an operable hood is not important to me
Hi there, once the top gets old enough it starts to curl. I know you said you don't care if the top goes up and down. But if you have someone handy they might be able to do something with maybe some Gorilla Tape to reform the edges to keep the water from getting in. Sorry best I can say to you, good luck

I've bought another Sebring to use for parts for mine, and I'm flopping between gluing my back window back in and just moving the other top over. From the level of destruction the top incurred from removal, I'm guessing removal and reinstallation might be out-of-reach. I heard you say that you got the back glass in the new one. Is that something you had to do yourself?
Hi Frank, been awhile since I did this. But when I ordered the new top they had glass or plastic for the rear window, I got the glass. Now from what I remember it was what they call a 2 piece top and the glass had it own enclosure that went on first then the main top. If that helps any, it wasn't easy but if your good with your hands and have patience it can be done.

It is called sailcloth but it is a vinyl top

Thank you, the guy at the shop told me $1200. No way was I going to pay him that for a one day job. I did it for around $400 plus my time and that was about 3 or 4 days. I had the time and a place to do it.

I couldn’t find the information I needed and it was frustrating. So I did this to try to help others that wanted to do it for themselves.

Yeah they quoted me $1500, it’s a $2000 car! Time to take it on myself, take your time and don’t get frustrated. You can do it!

@@JonnyMudMower I just couldn’t pay $1500 Jonny, for one the guy said he could do it a day plus he probably gets the top for $300. So that’s $1200 for one day of work, it takes me a whole lot of days to make that much and besides I’m hardheaded!

Looks really nice! Good job. My top is leaking on the passenger side, so maybe I need to do some adjustments. I did notice that in that corner, the rivet has popped, and the cable is loose. Could that cause a leak, and if so, how would I rivet that?
Hi Velisha sorry for taking so long, as far as convertibles they all are leak buckets. Mine still leaks in one corner but I think the main gasket is bad. Now as far as you problem if that rivet is broke loose that keep tension on the lower part of the top right over the windows and that could cause a leak. Best I can say is make sure everything looks good, for the rivet you have to have the top half way down so you can get to it then drill out the old rivet. The get the cable over the hole and put in a new rivet, I think it was 1/8" rivet and a pop rivet gun does the job. I hope this helps.

Nobody I can find so far explains how to put the glass in? When you buy the replacement top, you get the glass but there is no instructions in the box whatsoever
Hi David, mine is what they called a two piece top. The glass was installed in its own apron and that went on first then the top was applied on next. The outfit I got it from let you download instructions once you bought it. If you go to 29:30 of the video you'll see the glass apron I'm talking about. The instructions were very vague, so I kept looking on youtube for any answers and taking pictures as I went . In short it was not easy but you had to pay attention and if you do that you should be able to do it.

What size staple gun did U use?
Sorry took so long, I used a Arrow PT50 Staple gun with 1/4 inch stainless staples. Got the staple gun at Home depot for $37.00

Sorry Ryan can not do it, this what I had to do for myself. Upholstery shops want $1500 for this and do it in one day, way out of line in my book. So had to do it myself.
Ryan did you have any luck getting your top installed?
