I LOVE miniatures! I've been building 1:12 scale houses with working lights, interior and exterior finishes, furniture and accessories for 40 YEARS!!!! So... I love that you love miniatures too!
Melanie I really enjoy and learn so much from (to quote you) your "simpler, down to earth" videos like this one. And I would really love to see one devoted totally to staging and vignettes.
Yes, I’m a wanna learn all The things before diving in!!! And then I overwhelm myself and have difficulty getting started! I definitely relate to you!!
Wendy, and Melanie, I'm so relieved to know that y'all feel overwhelmed, same as I do, when getting started on something new. I've thought about trying candles, also, but the sheer magnitude (or so I perceived) of required supplies, learning, etc, has so far stopped me from getting started. I'm curious, can thrift store candles simply be melted down and reused?
So in my uninformed opinion, I think yes! You just need to be aware that you may have different wax, other than soy wax in the thrift store candles. But I don't see why they couldn't be!
Painting mats! Light bulb moment! We have a thrift store that has oodles of old prints at reasonable prices. I've stood in front of them and puzzled over what I could do with them. . . and now I know! Thanks for the inspiration!
I made candles years ago after watching my Aunt. Find someone who's done it, or watch You Tube video then just jump in and do it! Play with it until you find the scent ratio you like. I like a subtle scent. Wax is flammable and you could burn yourself, so that is a concern. I always used a double boiler method, an old can in an old pot of water. I LOVE your vignettes! I know what I like, I don't always know how to display it pleasingly. Thanks for helping!
Thank you! I'm updating my little store and this is exactly what I needed to watch!... As for the candles... Don't overthink it! 😃 Prep your container, get your prepared wick set (I've seen people use stickers, glue gun, or just add it after the wax is poured into shallow containers.) Melt the wax, add enough scent that it smells good to you, and pour the wax in, I take a piece of foil to hold the wick in place; I just have it about an inch wide and poke a hole in the middle and then crimp it to the edges of container so the wick is centered. Good luck! I'll be watching for the sugar bowl candles!
Oh my gosh! I so get what you are saying about learning new things! You sound just like me. I think you are right about the perfectionist thing! It stops me dead in my own tracks. You are the sweetest and an inspiration to me! I have a small booth too…in a tourist area…hour and a half outside of Chicago. I’m doing all the right things (I’m good at vignettes!). But it’s going so so…that’s it. I’m upstairs and the mall also sells wine. My husband thinks they are there to drink?? I don’t know. But truly you are awesome! Love and listen to everything you say and do!❤️
Hmm, it’s been a slow summer! Things may pick up soon. But could be a different customer base than what you expect… your husband may be into something! Experiment with some different types of items, perhaps you haven’t quite hit their target wants yet
Awesome video as always! Loved all of your thrift finds! Making candles is on my "to do" list too! I decided to start out small and bought a little kit but it sits on a shelf waiting . . .😂 Thanks for all of your help!
Love all your great finds! That brown bottle makes me think of a Mrs. Butterworth pancake syrup bottle! Ha! Ha! Thank you for the vignettes - so helpful. By the way, I spied your fall half-sphere - I just recently bought one from your online shop! Love it! ❤
I had the exact same reaction to candle making. Wanted to try it, researched, bought materials which was not cheap. Hubs took pity on me and helped. Poured into cute stoneware mugs. Scent was subtle coffee and also pumpkin spice. Priced each at $14.95 which would have just recouped my investment but haven’t sold any. Kind of a bummer but now I know. 😊

I am the same way. To the point where I keep putting off projects until I feel 100% ready. Once I do a project, I realize it wasn't that hard and I shouldn't have waited.
Love your content! I have 4 little ones and they are NOT interested in going thrifting or junk picking with me (and let's face it, I don't have the patience to haul them along!) So I am doing it through you, lol. I have the same problem with letting perfection hold me back from trying at all! Just try it, yes, yes yes!
Thank you Hannah! Mine are now 15, 13, and 10, and sadly they haven't caught the thrifting bug either :( I used to pay them $10 each to come with me to the flea markets and help me carry my stuff! Then I always promised to take them to see the puppies there too. Anyways, glad you can enjoy watching!
Yes, sometimes it can be challenging! Other times they just fall right together. When I had my brick and mortar and would do full store re-sets, it took me 2-3 days

Your vintage doll furniture addiction is funny. I love tiny things also, but what I have a hard time passing up is anything Americana. Items that are hand made OOAK. Which goes to the other thing I can't pass on is wood. Have you noticed how scarce old wood cutting boards have been lately. I've been using Fusion paint and adding a transfer on them. I've spray painted mats, it's like getting new ones.
That crisco bottle is great, definitely my favorite this time around. I have a miniature wire bistro chair that I have no idea where it came from and I style it with my house plants...makes me think of a place for the critters to stop and rest(I do however hope there are no critters since they are indoor plants)
Hi Melanie: I'm wondering if you have a video on organizing your work space from start to finish on say painting a piece of furniture getting ready to sell. I do a lot of vintage market shows, and include furniture and smalls, and have really struggled with where to put everything, find it, etc .
Thanks Melanie for another great video. Love the vase. Also think that candles look best in glass. Go ahead and give it a go, I'm going to do some candlemaking in the future
Melanie, I really enjoy your videos and all your ideas. Great finds and vignettes. I had a pair of those Delft painted vases in my booth that I found about a year ago. They sold immediately. I actually found them at GW for 0.99 before their prices became so outrages.

I know that's just a string for a tag around that brown bottle, but it would look nice with an old bracelet with a single gold or porcelain charm or cameo..

Hi Melanie! I do use some greenery in my small booth, but it's gotten really pricey. I do not have a tax # for wholesale buying. Do you know of any sources that I could afford to resell? Thanks.

If I happen to have some greenery I don't sell, I put a tag on it that says "NFS". Vignette making videos could blow your channel up. Viral goodness. I'm one year into having a booth and I'm still not happy with my vignette skills. I pick really unique finds and I know it's hard for customers to see the potential. Also, that have to floof my booth while the store is open. Customers hovering over me throws me off my game.
