I really needed to hear this! I have a brick and mortar store AND I'm opening a decor booth at a Vendor mall. I've been procrastinating about getting consistent with social media. I'm just so busy running my Consignment shop solo! I know that I need to carve out some time to do this! I know that it will make a huge difference in my business. I'm an introvert and getting in front of the camera isn't something that I'm thrilled about. Thanks for this video! You're such an inspiration!
Mel, you really are so generous with your information. Thank you for Recognizing there is enough room for all of us to be successful. The more you give the more God blesses you. Sharing you for sure!
Everything you said is absolutely true!!! Social media is the key and I would say 85% of my customer base come to my store because of our Facebook page.
Hi Melanie! I have a question for you. I watch your videos for your encouragement and inspiration. I have a brick and mortar store and I rent out booths to people for crafts instead of antiques. What would you suggest I purchase for lighting and a phone/camera holder to do some lives or tutorials? There's so much to choose from and I thought you would have figured out some that work best. (Also, there's no search option to find certain topics on your videos.)
Thank you so much for all this valuable information! Your content is easy to understand, you’re down to earth & genuinely want to help people succeed. Opening up a booth in March (this is all new to me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻) so all your videos have been very helpful! THANK YOU!
OMG this is absolutely great information! I do not have an antique booth but I do have a decor page where I occasionally get orders and where I post any live sales or shows. Even after asking ppl to “share”, I don’t get as much as I would like. IVE LEARNED ALOT how fb works! Thank you!
AMAZING Advice Melanie! My husband and I run a vintage booth at seasonal vintage markets, so I plan to use your advice for this. Thanks for all the work you put into your business and sharing it with all of us! I would love to come see your booth when we get to the Eastern US.
Thank you so much for all you are doing to help us newbies out. My best friend and I opened our booth (LYLAS, love you like a sister) back in April at the Apple Tree Mall Branson, MO and are trying to really figure things out. Your tips on how to grow, arrange and so much more is helping us dream BIG!!! Getting ready to head to NWA tomorrow for a fun junkin' trip! Thanks again!
@@LostFoundDecor Yes that was our original intention, but not sure we will actually go to junk ranch or just go to all the fun places! Hey do you have any suggestions on where we can find out who’s having garage sales?
I'm just starting out on social media now that I have a booth. Thanks for your videos! Question: does it help to request friend invitations to my Facebook or Instagram pages??
UA-cam is a hot platform right now, so great job! I have found for local businesses though, Facebook is crucial-it’s almost like a Google search for where to shop locally
❤️❤️❤️ the content of this video. Thank you! I do have a question about having a business page and/or a group. I have struggled with getting participation on a page, so started a group. Things started well on the page but have had difficulty in eliciting conversation as time goes on. My question is about how to have great content on both a page and group without too much duplication of content?
Great question! I also have a group, and have struggled more with group participation that participation on my page. I think it really comes down to being yourself and authentic. And I know it might sound cheesy, but being positive. I do think people are more likely to interact with positive content than they are with negative content (I’m sure you’re doing that already!) and remember, not everybody sees everything you post. It may feel like it’s a lot of duplication to you, but most likely your followers are only seeing a tiny bit of whatever goes up in your group or in your page.
Thank you for taking the time to share this valuable info. I have a B&M and advertising is hard. I will admit I am not consistent with my post but your explanation is spot on. I now feel like I have a direction to work towards. Many, many thanks!
You’re welcome! Yes, taking advantage of social media is even more critical when you have your own B&M. Literally, 90% of my B&M foot traffic came from social media! I wish you the best!
I actually have a lot of “friends “and interaction on my personal Facebook page, but not so much on my business decor page. Any tips how to build more on my home decor page? I’ve gotten a few by sharing my home decor page post to my personal page.
Start by inviting every person you think may be interested in what you do. Then do the two things we talked about here-post consistently, at least once a day, and post content that will invite engagement. Every time someone comments, reply to them. Ask questions, invite people to offer their opinions, do anything that you can to get the people that are on there to interact with you. It takes a while for momentum to start, but doing that over and over and over again Will help your page start to come to life and grow. There really is no short cut, it just takes time, and building engagement on a daily basis :)
@@LostFoundDecor that's great advice Melanie--thank you!! i was going to ask the same thing as Jody Shafer...i know i'm not consistent enough on my home decor page (wow! 2-4 times per day?...i'll try at least one per day like you suggested)...and i'm never personal...time to start :)...i really appreciate your tips...and you're right--unfortunately there are no short cuts...if you want your "business" to be a business, you have to be willing to put in the time...it's really as simple as that...thank you again and make it a great week :)...karen from central New York
Very insightful! But I was just curious to know can an antique booth survive without face book or social media or it is very much a necessity to having a booth and making it work?
Hi Grace! It depends on your goal-is your booth a hobby? For a little “fun money” now and then? Or are you looking to build it into a business for consistent income? If the latter, then you will need to find some way to connect with customers and market your brand. Of course, it also depends some on the mall you’re in. If you in a rockstar mall with a huge, loyal customer base, you can probably do well not marketing yourself and let your booth benefit from the overall mall foot traffic. But even then, I think you’re missing an opportunity to grow and connect if you don’t have some social media or online presence-some way for customers to find you and become your fans :)
@@LostFoundDecor I haven’t yet done a booth but was thinking of going from my online EBay shop to a booth on the weekends. Since I have a full time job already. If I can make it and it works for me I can see myself leaving my full time job if I can make a living with a booth. But my other question is besides the thrift stores where do you find such nice vintage furniture? I never run into that at the thrift stores and that seems to be where you make your income besides the vintage decor and paint. And how often do you have to shop to source all the items for sale in your shop?
Furniture is really a hit and miss business for me. Sometimes I find a lot, sometimes it’s slow and I don’t get good pieces for awhile. In my Booth Seller Bootcamp, we talk a lot about how to spread out your inventory, and that it’s really the smalls selling every day that add up to your regular income. I do look on FB Markeptplace, Estate Sales, and outdoor flea markets for furniture as well :)
@@LostFoundDecor thanks so much for the tips coming since you have experience and have been doing this awhile. I also had heard booths don’t make money but if you say you can I have hope and I’ve signed up for your boot camp.

So many great pointers! Unfortunately, I had the opposite effect when I showed myself in a quick video on my business Instagram page. I lost 14 followers instantly.
Ugh, that's super frustrating! I will say though that Instagram is a different beast than Facebook! In my experience, that audience wants different things, mainly inspiration (beautiful photos) and entertainment (silly reels). Facebook is where I go to build community with my customers and where I share my selfies, kids photos, etc. On Instagram I keep it more product focused with edited, staged photos. On my stories I can toss in more casual stuff, but not in my feed or the same thing happens. Just remember, not all social medias are the same and want the same thing. They all need different types of posts to do well, and for this video I focus my recommendations on what does well on Facebook :)
Twice a day?? Absolutely not going to happen. I love your videos! But I don't understand how you can have a life doing all of this. That's like a car that goes empty every 5 miles.
Schedule it out. Take an hour Monday morning and schedule for the full week :) On a daily basis I am on FB less than 10 minutes. This is also my full-time business, so I treat my social media marketing as part of my job
