      @@orc_gunslinger lol I was 16 when I wrote that. But here we go. Honestly, there comes a point when you have to cut loose children that are not worth the effort. They do not want to change. We would have had to stay there another 50 years to make any significant cultural change . My hat is off to the pro democracy forces launching attacks and trading places with the the Taliban in Afghanistan
      The Taliban like any competent guerrilla force. Did not stand toe to toe. When they did it did not end well. They only held ground where the forces were not around. Their only goal was harassment and to survive until the US left. They did not win militarily but as general Giáp of Vietnam pointed out after his critics stated he never beat the US militarily. He said very true but the US is no longer here now so that does not matter.
      In the same way the Taliban can say the same thing. each conflict post Korea gets less and less bloody when you adjust for time and scale of conflict . This was our least bloody conflict since the Philippine insurrection

      This did not age well.

    • @RexSpec
      @RexSpec 6 місяців тому

      @@kingdedede9135 Yes and no. Trump had a condition-based pull-out that would've worked remarkably well had Biden stuck to it.
      Instead, Biden ordered a unilateral pull-out that had _zero_ conditions, and a ridiculous time-table... like, to the point where you can almost make a 1-1 comparison to the Fall of Saigon (something that Biden seemed almost determined to replicate, imho).
      If there _is_ a silver lining to the pull-out (and Afghanistan in general) it's that Afghani's had a taste of what a free society in their country might look like. There is a whole generation of children (girls especially) who grew up being educated, enjoyed the right to vote, had generally equal representation under the law, and rights of speech/assembly while under the republic that was edstablished after the Taliban's fall.
      The genie is out of the bottle, in that regard. And the Afghani people won't soon forget that. The flip-side of that edge is that they also won't forget the pullout. Nor will veterans forget that Biden left them high-and-dry during the whole course of the pullout and is continuing to do-so during his residency in the oval office.
      To put it another way: Biden's treatment of the military is the kinda shit that makes the fake "suckers and losers" comment Trump supposedly made (and I _really_ have to emphasize the word "supposedly" as Biden repeats this falsehood from an article in "The Atlantic," which parroted comments from anonymous, unnamed sources that were supposedly close to Trump, but were found to be, at best, unverifiable) look tame by comparison.
      So yeah... I stand by my original statement but with some additional caveats: Afghanistan is certainly not Vietnam. The mission and the way we fought there were significantly different, but the pullout? Yeah... you can draw a few parallels and see quite a few similarities between the two conflicts.
