The problem is, that Germany has 0 natural ressources, so an independence is not that easy, since Norway can't supply the whole of Europe and alternative ressources will inflate prices. The shift from nuclear energy to green energy has also made it more difficult to maintain energy independent. Every politician in Germany agrees with what you are saying, sadly too late.

What scares me the most is that I am seeing a repeat of 1939. The question is, what will be our Poland moment? And how long will we wait until we make it our Poland moment? I heard an interesting suggestion in a Spanish news network. There is talk about taking a vote for booting Russia out of the permanent Security Council and replacing them with a country like India or Brazil, which I think is a great idea. The UN is just a forum for countries to talk their issues through. This is exactly when the UNSC is needed most, this is what it's for. Kicking your enemies out just escalates conflict. Russia holding the talking stick this month isn't a big deal, it gives them no formal power (the entire UN has no formal authority) except that they have to read the minutes and make the topic introductions.

First of all, Colbert has made over a year of jokes about the Jan 6th insurrection. Just because he and his writers were still trying to get a handle on the situation to find something to lighten the mood on the day it took place doesn't mean he was against joking about it. If you don't like comedians making jokes about hard topics, maybe you shouldn't watch comedians during hard times. Because that's where we are now. The jokes are not *at* the expense of the wronged. They're at the expense of the people doing wrong. There's a difference. And by the way, there's no laughing track. The "overly cheerful audience" laughed because they needed a laugh on a dark day. Love your comedy Stephen, but for people in Central Europe, it is really hard to laugh these days. I am from Slovakia, a neigbour state of Ukraine and the eastern border state of NATO. I personally am scared to death, and nothing is even happening in our country. I cannot imagine the sheer volume of fear and despair Ukrainian people must feel right now. Lives and families are being destroyed by the hands of a mad man. We are preparing for massive immigration from our eastern brothers and we are ready to help to anyone who needs it. The problem is, that Germany has 0 natural ressources, so an independence is not that easy, since Norway can't supply the whole of Europe and alternative ressources will inflate prices. The shift from nuclear energy to green energy has also made it more difficult to maintain energy independent. Every politician in Germany agrees with what you are saying, sadly too late.

I am no Ukrainian but i have seen and heard almost all recent pleads and videos of Zelensky and to call him barely a politician should be a crime. I haven't seen a politician actually fight for his people in a long time him and the former president is literally still in Kiev to plan on defending it till the end. Mad respect.

In reality there are tons of Nazis in Ukraine, and alot of them were in government after the Donbass Civil War, and then there is the Azov Battalions (look that up), so actual Nazis in Ukraine are a real problem that should of been addressed a long time ago. In Kiev thousands of firearms where handed out to civilians in an attempt to slow the Russian invasion and the government is telling people how to make Molotovs so they can fight back.
At this point it doesn’t even matter what the rest of the world did to prevent this. It’s happening and people are dying. Soldiers are dying, but also the next door neighbor and it’s family. That’s the point

The UN is just a forum for countries to talk their issues through. This is exactly when the UNSC is needed most, this is what it's for. Kicking your enemies out just escalates conflict. Russia holding the talking stick this month isn't a big deal, it gives them no formal power (the entire UN has no formal authority) except that they have to read the minutes and make the topic introductions.

Yesterday had a similar mood here in Europe as the 6 Jan last year in US. On that day Colbert did a sombre show without jokes.

First of all, Colbert has made over a year of jokes about the Jan 6th insurrection. Just because he and his writers were still trying to get a handle on the situation to find something to lighten the mood on the day it took place doesn't mean he was against joking about it.
If you don't like comedians making jokes about hard topics, maybe you shouldn't watch comedians during hard times. Because that's where we are now. The jokes are not *at* the expense of the wronged. They're at the expense of the people doing wrong. There's a difference.

Love your comedy Stephen, but for people in Central Europe, it is really hard to laugh these days. I am from Slovakia, a neigbour state of Ukraine and the eastern border state of NATO. I personally am scared to death, and nothing is even happening in our country. I cannot imagine the sheer volume of fear and despair Ukrainian people must feel right now. Lives and families are being destroyed by the hands of a mad man. We are preparing for massive immigration from our eastern brothers and we are ready to help to anyone who needs it.
