Putin has an issue with nato being neighboring the borders of russia. Quite simple to understand why really.

Exactly! So many media outlets keep going on about how NATO is a 'purely defensive' alliance so Russia shouldn't be worried. But the fact is that any action can be construed as a 'threat' and used to start a war if necessary.
Russia is rightly worried about Ukraine coming under the NATO alliance... But at the same time, this is something that could've easily been negotiated between the two nations without bloodshed if the west wasn't so keen on exerting it's influence and meddling where it doesn't belong.
That is a propaganda lie, Putin himself states that the existence of Ukraine is a historic mistake“ done by Lenin and the Communists who recognized self-determination for Ukrainians in 1917. NATO makes him only uneasy bc it limits his imperial ambitions. Putin im the end does nt even want to restore the soviet union, he wants to restore the Russian Empire. He is a revanchist, ethno nationalist.

@@mnessenche shut up, those are brother states and we're in harmony for years before NATO meddled. Putin and Russia recognised their sovereignty and provided them security and guarantees all th way. They were the most powerful of states in building and manufacturing weapons in Russia and great terms. The only condition ever was never to join nato, which they all agreed.

@@henrynn738 the difference is those countries (excluding Venezuela, and Cuba, which the US military never invaded), are primitive nations that were brutal dictatorships. Also at least the US had reasons beyond territorial expansion for it’s military invasions.

As someone who currently works and lives in Germany, watching Germany sit there with a barrel of Russian oil is incredibly funny.
I don't know why, but I've not met people this proud and convinced by their politics and their country besides maybe Americans.

We are the motor of the European economy and Russia supplies the fuel. If there is no fuel the motor will die and so the economy of Europe.
The US imports 500k barrels per day on average from Russia. It could be a poke at both countries.

Only with some new technological breakthrough will you be able to cover your loss of coal and nuclear power generation with purely renewables. You are a sovereign country free to make its own decisions about energy security and global warming, but don't pretend like this was your only choice.

There is no balance on this show. 2 seconds of entertaining the other sides POV mixed in constant coverage of imperialist talking points is not balanced. It is effective propaganda. I've come to realise how ridiculously manipulative this show is after starting to actually read and learn about the staffs he talk. More often than not the presented news are more populist rather than being fact based. Enlighting can never be an adjective I'll associate with this show.

The current situation of Ukraine is the result of its poor choice to join US and NATO. Being a friend of the US is far more dangerous than being it's enemy.
The thing is, Putin is not afraid of NATO attacking it - that will never happen.
He fears that after joining NATO he won't be able to dictate said countries what to do and threaten with tanks if they don't comply
