Upwork hires people for phone scams... I do voice acting and almost all the jobs are to help scammers 🙄 i had to leave the site bc of how bad they got.
The one scam that I have been approached before are the one that claims to be a artist themselves. However, they will DM you saying that they are open for commission and try to offer their work to them. I do have a issue with it because no real artist will DM people to offer their commission to then. It's rude to do especially if that person isn't familiar with that work and they barely post art on their accounts(or have the money to commission artist). Also most of the arts are either stolen, inconsistent style(possibly AI art), or offer something that they don't have examples of(like they post only 2D art but they say they can do 3D art but has no examples of it.).
Some will also say "ur socials will look better with MY art" to the artist that made the pfps, banners, ect. Just goes to show they don't care and only want your money
I got something similar and I'm not sure if it was a scam or just someone being kinda scummy. They messaged me first and we're insistent that I send an oc to be drawn by them (with no mention of having to pay). Only after I gave them the oc and what I wanted to be drawn that they said "okay lets work out payment". Immediately blocked them for that
oh hey, I've actually had the pleasure of encountering and messing with one of those! what little work was on their profile had wildly inconsistent artstyles, and 90% of their activity on twitter and bluesky was publically asking people to talk privately they're super easy to spot and fun to mess around with
8:15 reminded me of a wild commission ask I recieved when I was young. I was 15, so, of course I had commissions open. I got a DA message asking me to basically draw a hate group yearbook photo, like there were enough different groups mentioned to make it "diverse". I basically responded "nice copypasta, jackass" and pasted it into Google to see if it was a meme format. It wasn't, but I'm still glad I had the foresight to see what they were asking.
this seriously needs more views, i've fallen for these scams yet (and hopefully not ever) but people need to see this asap, its a tough world out there
When you explained the over charge scam, that one isn't limited to art sadly. I had been job hunting a couple years back and there is a remote work position scam where an "employer" states you're hired and will send you a check for supplies. TLDR they'll either have you send them a check for the difference of a check with too much money or scam you for your bank acct routing number. I freaking hate humans sometimes.
🐙 Thanks for doing this video. ArtStation is crawling with the NFT scammers. Its funny they say they want to buy your work, but its you that needs to pay??? 😂
I believe I get art scams on Twitter now and again I'll have some random people who haven't posted since November sometimes even last year just to randomly DM me(and mind you they don't follow me nor have I interacted) I believe they DM random people to ask if they are wanting a commission Whenever I look at their accounts their artwork looks almost traced Or it looks like a beginner just to have random art style changes in the accounts whenever I look I always block as soon as I get them because one:I don't even have money for commissions if I did id be commissing my artist friends or people who I know aren't scammers because we've had at least a few interactions and they've done commissions before and post them
It's important to note that for cons of this nature poor grammar is generally used as a form of mark selection. It's best simplified as "if someone were to be dumb enough to fall for this first part, they'd likely be dumb enough to fall for following parts of this scam." Not always the case, ofc, and this is more applicable for more explicit forms of self-selection when it comes to phone scams ("this is the IRS and you owe us money" and the like), which focus on widespread scammage and therefore would rather not waste time on someone who isn't going to give them money, but it's still important to keep in mind that poor grammar is _usually_ intentional. Also remember: the "con" part of "conman" is short for "confidence". Never get too complacent or cocky about your position, scammers and conmen alike are specifically looking to exploit that.
The worst that can happen if you just click some sketchy link (without doing any actions on the website it leads to) is an IP grabber (the person that sent the link will get your IP). No website can steal your info without you typing it in there or install a virus on your pc without you downloading and opening a file. (That *doesn't mean you should* click random links)
if the client drastically changes the theme at any time, its a scam. If they try pay you with anything but the currency you ask for, its a scam. If they try push to pay after the commission is finished, don't trust them unless its a client who either is a repeat customer or has a portfolio of multiple commission works made for them. Don't do free samples.
Scams targeting artists? How about artists that are the scamers themselves? I write fanfiction and I have gotten about over 100 people asking me to make a commission cause they "Really love my work." Even though they won't ever review and say what they like and didn't like. But yea. Even when I interact with them it felt lifeless and they really wanted to push me to make a commission like I would explain ideas and they would jump to payment so quickly! And charge ridiculous prices for one character, even half a character would take most my paycheck. So I feel it's only fair that artists themselves can and are scammers. Either bots or just have terrible ways of marketing.
I lost a hundred dollars bc of one of these scams. Thank you for taking about this ♡ Edit: I had posted on Cara, got a dm from there for a commission, made the drawing, made a stupid mistake of sending them my PayPal email, got the refund email, got scared and sent em my money. Worst day of my life. Had to sell my body online for a while to make most of the money back since I didn't want my parents seeing all the money gone from my account. Thank frick I grew up.
6:27 Lmao, if only this appeared a month or so ago as i had recently fallen for a scam exactly shown in this scenerio for a wedding card and stuff. Luckily they gave me a ton of info to track back and make a small claim against them to TRY and get it back but yeah- wish these types of videos was made before that happen, not after lolo.
Those same annoying scams are in da notes and da chats too I get them there so much and it sucks so much also yes f nfts. They all get auto blocked at this point tbh.
If you haven't given out any personal information, or information that you wouldn't give to a regular commissioner, you should be fine. Same if you haven't paid. Just report this person, and block them. Screenshot the message in case you need proof of *anything*. Scammers aren't just out to get your money. They're out to get your data too.
Somebody tried the second method you menitoned on me. They send me a picture of their child and had more of that same child on their page. I told them to give me 3 Days to come up with a variety of sketches. The next day I wanted to check the specifics once more before starting, however, their Account was gone... A month later I learned that I dodged a bullet there >-
Well, I've been hacked once, but never took my money cause one person sent me a message saying I was going to get a banned scam. It happened on Discord right on my birthday on June 19. Of course, I did get shadow-banned from an old livestreaming site before Twitch saying I was too awkward of all penguins despite my high-functioning autism. The guy want to screenshot of my bank account, and then he hacked my Discord account and caused some damage to my reputation, but not my money. I have a severe mental illness that affects my life after all that hate spread to me.
🦑 Thanks for making this, weird how scammers are so obsessed with artists in particular, I'm curious what the success rate is compared to other targeted demographics for them to keep doing this or if they're just chasing a crappy return compared to other options. Small fish scams in general are becoming more and more desperate and in turn pathetic.
I've had 2 that messaged me and asked me if i did comissions but i refused cuz they were awfully suspicious. Their profile pages were empty and they basically had the same username!
1 thing im sometime thankfull is that i often forget to look at my dms other time i tend look at it but there really odd or random talk Often the. Look at there profile But lately had 10 people where mabey only 3 where normale people but other where questionable, because i follow many many artist i tend get post from them about scammers or info that people need be aware. On twt i get so many request also on DA but often i dont look at it because i may saw it but i tend forget very fast i Rememeber almost or click on 1 on DA back then but never made acc on that nor went through it but i was way younger then. But due fact i keep forgetting afther 2/3 days due other things i tend never look back at it maney afther month again. Also i tend have strick perants where i need have primmison for many things so i often tell them i caint need talk to my perants and the government person becaus have them so they tend backoff

i cant find the squid emoji so i will just comment this. also, has anyone else ever run into a fake free artwork scam? someone will say they want to paint you or draw you for free. I am actually unsure if its a scam, but it has happened to me too many times for it to be genuine.
Thanks for the forecast! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I swear artists have everything against them (scams, AI, etc.) when it comes to making that little bit of money to stay afloat
Upwork hires people for phone scams... I do voice acting and almost all the jobs are to help scammers 🙄 i had to leave the site bc of how bad they got.
Wtf😮😮😮
You have to pay Upwork to get promoted. That’s a scam to me…

@@NotDenverSkyes That was more the likely a scammer, I've had some do that to me too

👁👄👁 i'm sorry, a WHAT photo?!
As someone who’s going to open commissions soon and is kind of nervous about it, thank you for this video!

Thank you for warning many artists of these scams! Really a shame there’s so many people who target artists to scam like this :/

This is why I stopped using social media and bigger sites like DA to host my art. Too many scammers~ 🦑

Been seeing various scams on Tumblr I've experienced, finally experienced an art scammer, they are EVERYWHERE :(
I've had a lot of those emails sent to me before. I always reply to them in a rude way, knowing that they are scam artists. I tend to fight scammers.
Very helpful, thank you! I'll keep this in mind when I start commissions.
Incredibly informative. Be careful out there!
Those same annoying scams are in da notes and da chats too I get them there so much and it sucks so much also yes f nfts. They all get auto blocked at this point tbh.
0:08 "before it became a hot dumpster fire"
It was even before it became X. :')
🦑 lots of good info! Thank you.
Also on the one PayPal scam I’ve got they didn’t know how to link the fake button so thank goodness I get lucky there.
I’ve just been approached with a scam 😭 🙏🏻 but I haven’t made a payment and won’t. I’m just worried if I’ve put my info at risk
yeah i get that 🥲but as long as you haven't made any payments you should be fine
