Hey. Congratulations on your success. It's quite an incredible feat to do all of this yourself! We ship about 2000 orders out a month. Here's a few tips that may make the process a bit easier. 1) Use a fulfilment tool like pirate ship, ship station or any number of tools. These will pull in orders from your website so you don't have to type in the information (address, shipping method etc). 2) Also some of the tools mentioned in point 1 allow you to define the package dimensions and weight for specific products. So if you get standard orders (one mug, one bowl, etc.). The package information will be auto populated. 3) Get a thermal printer for your shipping labels. You'll want to get a one that uses fan folded paper like a Rollo (or other comparable product). This way you save the step of cutting the label sheets.
All good tips! Thank you. I’ll look into pirate ship as typing in all the orders is the death of me. I’ve been meaning to get a thermal printer too-2000 orders a month is nuts!

I learnt that with delicate things if you fill them with newspaper and make thrm a solid even the thinest glass will stand up to a lot more. Even the handles, if you fill that area. What i mean is if you get a glass, stuff it with newspaper tight and another exact same glass empty, wrap in cloth and drop them. Or put weight on them. The empty one will always break first.
Wow, it's amazing how you can package and write own addresses on a computer AND print them out THEN send them. Yet still make pottery and make glaze THEN fire? That's a lot, kudos to you! I will be buying some stuff soon!
Things I'd do different: 1) Instead of printing shipping labels, I'd print they directly in adhesive shipping labels. No need for writing on the box, printing, cutting, putting tape and glueing on the box. 2) I'd automate many things. And put the printer beside the table, and one monitor in front. I saw your notebook, so maybe you're already doing it. Hope it's a system that's like McDonald's: it shows your order products, prints the shipping label, the invoice, so you just press the green button and it marks as waiting for shipping and pass to the next order. One click, it does it all. Also, putting two printers to work it'd be more efficient (the adhesive in a small thermal printer and the invoice in a template to quickly fold it. 3) I wouldn't be as paranoid about the bad guy at postal office. It simply doesn't pay off the time you lose making it armored (and I think it also uses lots of plastic in vain). I'd invest more in the unboxing experience instead of it arriving as one. 4) Why take 2 laps around the box putting a "Fragile" tape roll? Just print the box with 50 fragile alerts (as it would make any difference after all of this) 5) Maybe I'd avoid walking that much from the shelves every new order and do it a batch. OR putting the shelves right beside of me. 6) Yeah. This is boring. I'd pay for someone to do it for me. 7) Organize the sea of boxes. Messes in surroundings creates messes in minds. At least one pattern to pile them up (but you'd have to invest in other shelves because the chips make the box rounder, so, yet again you pay a price for noid... I mean, you pay a price for overzealousness of your work 8) Think about mini plastic pallets too. The shipping people will thank you being able to put a hundred box instead of ten in the truck at once. 9) The side protection in styrofoam or cardboard could also be made before. In steps: first separating the orders, then preparing the boxes, then folding the pieces (this part you can even do BEFORE the orders! Most people will buy one piece of each, so you pack some bunch and in the boring process you'd have to think about folding only the 2s and 3s packages), then printing, then separating for the postal 9) And, YET again, I'd investing in unboxing experience. Your work is worth thousands but are shipped like they are packs of dog food or something. 😬 (The Julius Caesar proverb, "Caesar's wife must be above suspicion" in portuguese is translated as "Is not enough for Caesar's wife to honest, but TO LOOK honest". I'd go for the marketing version: "Is not enough for your product to BE wonderful, but TO LOOK wonderful")
Someone gave me a lower rating on Poshmark because of my packaging. Sorry but I don't package for prettiness, I package for you getting your item without breaking!! By the way I learned that the smooth side of the bubble wrap goes against your item with the bubbles outside. Lovely pottery!!
One or two items of the same size per box is not a problem. The problem is packing 30 or 40 items of varying shapes and sizes. The extra layers of cardboard around the sides is a good idea which I will definitely implement. Thank you
Thank you! And yes, haha, they are always quite surprised, but they're also curious and often ask lots of questions. My last UPS driver's mother was a potter! So he was very pleased.
i think a lot of this makes me not want to make a living from being a potter. the world has gotten so small and complicated. Gratitude for your work and exposing all that is and all that surrounds it.
Florian, I hope you do well in finding someone to work alongside you, who will be able to work as well as you do. Another really good video with great pointers presented really well. Cheers and be well...Freddie
Another great video. Packaging is excellent. If we were using this packaging material in this amount in our own country, I think we would go bankrupt. :)) Everything you do is great.
I’m very glad the books my library orders don’t need to be packed like fragile objects, as the boxes are already way more than we need for outgoing parcels.
Sending my yarnbowls, I can't do such perfect packing, but I wrap it in bubbles, lay it on a bed of starch packing beans with the curl facing into the corner, ram the beans inside to support the curl and outside to stop it moving in the box. Then I get a second box and put a ring of void fill paper in the bottom topped up with the beans, put the first box in, put void fill paper in the opposing corners to anchor it in the middle and then more beans down the sides etc. So far I've lost one, but that box was CRUSHED, like the truck it was in crashed or something truly heavy fell on it.

7) Organize the sea of boxes. Messes in surroundings creates messes in minds. At least one pattern to pile them up (but you'd have to invest in other shelves because the chips make the box rounder, so, yet again you pay a price for noid... I mean, you pay a price for overzealousness of your work
8) Think about mini plastic pallets too. The shipping people will thank you being able to put a hundred box instead of ten in the truck at once.
9) The side protection in styrofoam or cardboard could also be made before. In steps: first separating the orders, then preparing the boxes, then folding the pieces (this part you can even do BEFORE the orders! Most people will buy one piece of each, so you pack some bunch and in the boring process you'd have to think about folding only the 2s and 3s packages), then printing, then separating for the postal
9) And, YET again, I'd investing in unboxing experience.
I really appreciate your attention to detail.. Well done..
Someone gave me a lower rating on Poshmark because of my packaging. Sorry but I don't package for prettiness, I package for you getting your item without breaking!! By the way I learned that the smooth side of the bubble wrap goes against your item with the bubbles outside. Lovely pottery!!
If it shakes - it brakes... Very nice video!
Damn! Why didn’t I come up with that! Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
Thank you I needed this!! I have had some broken pieces, very disappointing!
this is very insightful! Thank you for sharing ur shipping process 💕
One or two items of the same size per box is not a problem. The problem is packing 30 or 40 items of varying shapes and sizes. The extra layers of cardboard around the sides is a good idea which I will definitely implement. Thank you
Love the video, also I'm sure the delivery people probably don't like the sight of this haha 🤣
I was so alarmed to see Florian throw that box! Haha
Thank you for sharing your talents.
I started putting an extra label inside the box, so in case it gets lost in transit I can call customer service, and let them know that.
Would love an updated video!
Packaging as beautiful as what's inside.
我看過一些其他販售陶藝的產品用特殊紙類材料包裝,也可以達到保護防護的作用。
你已經有擁許多粉絲,希望也能重視環保議題,這樣就會是善的循環。我很喜歡你製作陶藝所分享的影片。
Fantastic packaging, great video, thank you for ghr tips 😀 😊 👍 😄
Florian, I hope you do well in finding someone to work alongside you, who will be able to work as well as you do.
Another really good video with great pointers presented really well.
Cheers and be well...Freddie
I love your videos!! Keep up the good work :)
Great video! Thanks
Thanks! That was very helpful.
Did you make this because I asked about shipping to Norway a week ago? hehe. Great video. You must work 24/7
Great opening 😎
Another great video. Packaging is excellent. If we were using this packaging material in this amount in our own country, I think we would go bankrupt. :)) Everything you do is great.
I’m very glad the books my library orders don’t need to be packed like fragile objects, as the boxes are already way more than we need for outgoing parcels.
Lovely content as always..
You’re awesome, very helpful, thank you
very enjoy to watch your working style
*I very *much enjoy *watching your working style
How I wish one of these packages was one it’s way to my house.
Great, thanks, now I know what to do!
Thank you.
I guess I saw the two items which are on its way to my place. 😍
