amazing how well they perform live, especially since this is a highly produced sound, love this... and the guy in shorts running around with the tape recorder, love to hear that
I saw them live around’83 when I was in high school in New Orleans on the River Boat President. The thing I remember is how incredible they sounded live.
Good to see this on a UK show even if they did not make an impact here yet were way bigger in the USA. Same goes for Wang Chung, Outfield, Flock Of Seagulls and anyone else I forgot.
A song about nuclear war, performed on a Saturday morning kids show. The "Kids" running around happy as they play at interacting with the band.. I miss the 80s.
Thanks for doing this. Have liked and will post to my community page. There can't be that much footage as old as this of The Fixx floating around. This is actually just under 1 month after the release of their debut album Shuttered Room.
este video me tiene conmocionados....son unos capos los fixxs tocando en vivo sin play back semejante canción tan pero tan oscura, en un programa infantil, monsters
Finally I can see that that opening is a harmonic on the 12th fret. On the album version, clearly the slap or hard pick (hard to tell) on the same harmonic on an Aria bass (same that John Taylor used on Rio in that time) is what gives that opening it's distinct and full sound. Chorus and reverb are also probably helping along with compression. Cy, Bono and Hutchins are the best singers of that time period. Cy's "yodel" in many performances puts him above the other 2. He's unreal. This is before he gets really good. No idea how he went from the pre-Fixx voice to the intensity he has in the Fixx. You would not recognize him in that band.
There is a series called Off The Record made by TVS in 1982 at Gillingham. You might find the odd snippit on UA-cam. Its possible the person who runs this channel might have TX tapes, i dont know, but this footage is TV gold and believed destroyed by Disney.
@80ssynthfan48 yes i am aware that there are VHS copies, but what we are taking here is the master tapes. Apart from a couple of recordings these are all TX broadcast master tapes. History has it they were all skipped, but an undisclosed amount were saved. It just depends whats been saved.
How many of you are listening to this and thinking how important this is to our times right now in 2024
One of the best songs of the 80's.
There are much better songs from them . This is just charts
Such a clean and unique sound. The first time I heard them I was hooked.
Amazing live performance/sound
Red sky at night, shepherd's delight! Woah, woaaah woah ah woa, ahhh!!
Good to see a live version of this song from so far back.
All musical guests performing in the lounge (or cellar from Series 4 onwards) of _No.73_ performed live.
They don’t write music like this nowadays.
No, but The Fixx still plays this music 40 plus years later to this day/ just as well or better !!!###
So innovative back in the days are we looking at this now 2024
The Fixx takes over your living room. Love this song.

Harry getting in the way as usual! 😂

This is triply valuable, as it's British TV, live, and before they were well known in the US.
Such a prophetic song/ hope it didn't scare the kids !!!###

My favorite band at that time
What a fantastic band with a lot of great singles. Never got the credit they deserved.
@@michaelwilson2340 They did a lot better in the US than over here in their native UK. Shame, I liked this one and One Thing Leads to Another.
@@antster1983 I also love Stand Or Fall and Are We Ourselves?. Oh, and Built For The Future. Not a big single but I enjoy it.
Bangin' mullets

maravilloso, que video mas lindo, como ocurre eso
Thanks for the upload!!!
Please do this for each of the music performances from No. 73.
Making a separate channel might be better for that.

@@Jaspacat1965 There are at least 3 episodes of Off The Record already on youtube. Depeche Mode, The Stranglers and Talk Talk.

Poor synth player looks nervous! A strange concept for a vid.
Fantastic to see this after all these years. What a great live performance!
