Seriously...off the charts. Their music is so ominous and full of danger and it has all aged so well. They should have been much, much bigger than they were. Freaking love them !
Gawwwd!! I remember this song from like Feb-'84. At least here in the U.S. I used to listen to America's Top 40 on my local radio station. It came on twice. Every Sunday at 8:00 am-12:00pm. Then again at 8:00pm-12:00am.
The greatest measure of a band is how much difference is there between the live version & studio version of their songs. If there is very little, then they are a fantastic band, of which there are only a limited number every year. The Fixx was such a band during their heyday, and continuing on to today.
I wouldn't go quite so far-there's ambiance, control and technology available in a studio that can't be copied live, which makes for a different sound.
I completely agree. Too many bands are 'fixed' in studio and sound terrible live. The Cars, a band I love, sounds like a bad wedding band live. The Fixx sounds precisely the same LIVE as their studio recordings. Even years after many aged singers have lost their tone, Cy Curnin continues to stay in tune and on-rhythm with the music and, if you look closely, you'll see he does NOT wear an ear-piece to assist him. He's the real deal. Old school, genuine and authentic. in 2017 I saw them live and I couldn't believe how good they sound. Listen to Foreigner today by comparison.
Reach the beach 1983 my first summer on my own. lived down the beach, parked cars during the day & worked in the fantastic Italian restaurant right on the beach. It was epic. No longer was my Mum riding my ass, instead she brought me food and said I was too thin! "You are not alone, the sign of fire!"
*I am 48 years old now ...Loved the Fixx, every since I first ever seen them in their Stand or fall Music video back in the early 1980s And have been a dedicated fan every since. Now I have the privilege of seeing them Live in concert tomorrow night here in Seattle Washington! ''Long live the 80's'' !!!!*
Outstanding. As someone who just discovered these guys, I wish I could go back in time and exist in this era for a bit so see all the great artists of the early 80s live.
@@monicad2393Those Saturday shows...rapt before the telly, fascinated by--but puzzlng over why--Judas Priest's Rob Halford would beat a motorcycle with a bullwhip! 🤘😄🤘
No lie: yesterday this started playing at the Nordstrom Rack in El Segundo and I almost dropped the goddamn cardigan I was carrying. This 40 year old track sounded right at home with the modern Nick Hakim, Tame Impala, and Roisin Murphy tracks that were playing, presiding like a proud spiritual papa. Glorious track! And whoever programs the music at that Rack needs a raise.
Dazzling and haunting and easily the most underrated musical group of the 1980s, like they were too far ahead of their time to be really understood and fully appreciated then.
I agree. Wasn’t a particular fan back in the day but 40 years on, I think they are THE quintessentially 80s band, as well as being high quality. Very underrated, although they certainly got heavy rotation on MTV.
+John Thomas So true! I've seen them twice the last two years and can't wait to see them again. Freaking amazing musicians to pair with great songs makes for a memorable live show.
+smbake Hey !!....Glad you agree.....what a great BAND they truly are...!! Great songs and great musicianship....makes for an incredible live experience....if you don't already have a copy, you should get "Real Time Stood Still"....you'll love it !! Best, JT
Truth! I always bring them up when someone starts a conversation about music and people are generally unfamiliar. I don’t get it. I remember being enchanted when I heard Red Skies as a kid in the 80s. Will always love them and recommend them.
She has a heart of stone to her oldest blood brotha. So much alike but she sends harassing emails and continues through generate fake trash throughout the day every fucking day. The kind of sister you are better off digging a hole and putting in the ground for all of eternity
I've dug their stuff since '83 but only got to see them for the first time the other night, September 2022. I *SO* wish I could go back in time and catch past shows! Truly great stuff, love how The Fixx can take the weird edge of new-wave influences and make that stuff rock! Great sound, and much respect for having so few personnel-changes in four decades. That's especially great because every member is a fantastic musician. The Fixx just moved up way-up on my list of faves!
I've loved The Fixx since the 80s but just got a chance to see them live over the weekend. They put on a great show. The guys have obviously gotten older, but their performance is still super tight. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed their newer stuff as well, especially since I haven't kept up with their output in recent years. They are solid.
The Fixx are one of the rare few who really came out swinging. Usually it takes an album or two for a band to find their footing, The Cure had Three Imaginary Boys, U2 had Boy and October, The Bunnymen had Crocodiles and Depeche Mode had Speak & Spell and A Broken Frame. The Fixx... they went Shuttered Room to freakin' Reach the Beach and then Phantoms! They arrived fully formed, and they honestly seem to be having a renaissance of sorts with the last two albums.
So sorry for your loss - what a jam to remember him by and tear up to I bet. It's ok - they were good times right. Keep your head up and your memories close and dear.

Saw them in concert in the early 80's on a cool wintry night at the Orange Bowl, in Miami. They were the opening band for the Police--and they totally blew me away. Will never forget that concert---they were just like you see in this video but the sounds in a large stadium were so enhanced---it was like being in the front row. Those GUITAR TONES & UNEXPECTED CHORD CHANGES in all their songs are incredible. Cy Curnin's voice is top notch and glad to see them still touring with all their original band members.
One of the best live performances of the era!! And if I had a barber shop I would put each one of those ‘dos on the wall as examples, and when the day came that some kid sat down and pointed to one, I’d know that the listing ocean liner of society had finally righted itself.

I agree! Maybe they are better off.
"I tried to reach you, I tried to warn ya!"
"Heart of Stone!"
Agreed. Every time I listen to them I'm like yeah, my fav new wave / alt band of the 80s.
I just love what Jamie + Rupert do in this band
Just one of the most excellent talents of the 80’s.. 🎶🎶🎶🥰🥰🥰👊👊

They're a British band but were never very popular over here in England. They were more popular in the US and Canada.
I will always cherish this Band.

@@screenPhiles Yes, a lot of bands who sound the same live and in the studio just don't know how to record in a studio.
if that were true, millie vanilli (sp?) would have been the best..
just saw them last night (09/07/19) and they were Fabulous!!! Very talented and professional. Cy's voice at age 61 now is still very strong!!!!!

The album that this song has to be their best! Saved by Zero, Red Skies at night, One thing leads to another!
Cy's voice is so unique! Love this guy! I first listened to The Fixx over 40 years ago.
Glad I saw them live !!! In the 80s and in 2010 ...hello from California
This band was the best sound....what a musicians and the lead vocal have a great voice and it's very teatrical, a very good frontman!
This is the song that turned me on to the Fixx. What a sound!
1st album I ever owned, Reach the Beach, at 10 years old. So stoked to have gotten tickets to see them this November, right after my birthday.
Loved them since the 80's

Liked the The Fixx and Talk Talk in the 80's. Anyone else here a Talk Talk fan?
Talk Talk are on another level, them and Big Country are my favourite bands from the 80's
Duh...yeah. I love the arc of all their albums start to finish, but my fave was always The Colour of Spring. Mark Hollis was a genius in my book.
Yes. The Fixx And Talk Talk were two of the best bands of the 80s. Maybe add in the Psychedelic Furs.
You bet, Mark Hollis had a vocal range that was unmatched in the business. RIP ,Mark. We won't forget you. 💔😢🙏🙏
Fucking right 😊

It was an amazing time! back then MTV would play Saturday night concerts. This was one, as was Duran Duran.

The best of New Wave
They definitely belong in the conversation, along w Talk Talk, the Psychedelic Furs and Depeche Mode.

They played a great show here in Denver recently.
Totally agree. Their music has atmosphere. Plus stll all same members after 40 years. Thats amazing!!
"Your not alone"
The Fixx are still underrated. Jamie West-Oram's guitars and Cy Curnins' vocals are one of a kind!!
I really do think so.
Gotta add Rupert - right up there with Nick Rhodes - always killer sounds
@@JohnViguerie100%. Rupert Greenall is one of my all time favorite keyboardist of the era. His wall of sounds are the ... can't put into word. ❤❤❤

What a cool 🎸 lick in the middle section. Buy this in vinyl, it's great. The Fixx' one of the eighties best bands and still are.
One of the tightest sounding bands I ever saw....when they opened for the Moody Blues back in the 80's.
Me too. Morgantown Wv. They kicked butt!
The Moody Blues AND The Fixx! Man, I would’ve paid good money to be at that one,
Good song. This was a US top forty hit in 1983.

Never heard of them until recently, which is a shame since I've always been an 80s music fan. I love the mysterious atmosphere of this song.
This song! 🥰
The sound of the music of this band is great
holy crap!!! The memories!!!!!
Their best song - EVER - this is the song that turned me on to The Fixx!
One Thing Leads To Another or Saved by Zero was the first song of theirs I heard and I liked them ever since. They are a great band.
That guy can sing. A cross of Ocasek and Bowie.
'80s semi trippy music that still sounds great today. Wish they still made music like this. Im 56 years old y'all have a great day.

Love this - Reach the Beach was one of my favorite albums in the 80s.
Blows today's music out of the water. And into the fire. Today's "artist" can't compare at all to the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
This is intelligent music .
When my brother was alive he'd never miss a Fixx concert whenever they came into his state. He told me they were amazing in concert!

a ta loss for your brother,,,,
My deceased older bother turned me on to this great band too...song was "Saved by Zeroes". Sorry for your loss, Sweet Pea.
Rupert Greenal is my favorite eighties keyboard player. I met him, Cy and Jamie, at a concert in 2010. Live long The Fixx!
Jamie was and is one of the best rhythm guitarists in rock
The textures he created were amazing

Hard to tell what decade this song is from. Could be any of the last 4. Way ahead of its time
Seen them back when 🤔 great live band 💯 Cy & JWO 👏 ✌
Heart of stone
I tried to reach you
Of the altar stone
I tried to warn you
But you were not alone
You wouldn't take the call
You wear brimstone
I tried to warm you
Always the same desire
After the tone
They try to storm you
You are a voice alone
And who dares to question
Forgotten at home
How do you live with
Do you wear brimstone
Give me the call
Always the sign is fire
I'm being drawn by the heat
Always the same desire
Through the telephone
I tried to reach you
But if you're not alone
I know your life is torn
I see your lover's tomb
Why don't you mention
To me whenever I call
I'll try to warm you
Always the sign is fire
I'm being drawn by the heat
Always the same desire
You're not alone

Saw in Knoxville early 2000s. So Excellente.
