I own a 1965 Omega Seamaster Deville, found during a cleaning after my mom's passing. My Father said it was given to him by my mother to celebrate her pregnancy with me. It wasn't working, and it had no crystal. My father said, "If you can get it working, you can keep it." I had sent it off to Omega HQ right before the COVID lockdown. It took me some time to restore it to working condition, but it was worth the wait. Nothing like having a story behind your watch. Loving it, and it keeps exit time.
How much did it end up costing, if you don’t mind disclosing? Also what an awesome story. That sense of sentimentality is what drives us to buy/keep the lesser known watches
@@StandAloneState It was not as much as a new one, but it was expensive. I also purchased an alligator strap since, in CA, it is hard to find Exotic leather bands. Omega HG Service department informed me of the repair status and did an excellent job, it looks brand new.
I had a Seamaster 300 refurbed by Omega, about $700 and they returned to me a lot of little parts replaced. The watch looked brand new. Very happy with the outcome.
Got the previous generation of De Ville with the power reserve for my birthday last year and it's my first luxury watch and I love it. I find it so underrated and deserves so much more attention but also I want it to stay attainable. Either way, so happy that you talked about it, Teddy! Keep up the good work.
I am a huge Omega fan, now having purchased my second. (first is a Bond edition). I'd decided to expand my collection a few weeks ago, and ended up getting a Constellation. Both the DeVille and Constellation re great watches. The 41mm fits by 7 1/4 wrist a little better and one I was looking at them closely first hand I went with the Constellation. Maybe if I went on a different day I'd have got the DeVille Prestige. And what was also very, very cool was I could try on the watch I was going to buy and brought it home with me that day (that's a jab at Rolex).
The watch that started me on the crazy obsession of watch collecting. Brilliant piece that transforms into a chameleon with a endless possibility of strap changes.
I, absolutely, LOVE Omega! Obtained one of my grail watches in my Speedmaster! Still can't believe I own one. But I would love a Seamaster Diver 300M (Blue Dial) and a 41mm Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Master Chronometer. Certainly wouldn't mind owing a DeVille either. One at a time, in time, they will be mine!
Hey Teddy, I absolutely love your watch reviews-you’re always showcasing some incredible timepieces! I have a suggestion that I think could add something special to your videos. How about including a short segment, maybe thirty seconds to a minute, where we can just listen to the mechanical sounds of the watches? Hearing the crown winding, the ticking of the movement, and the click of the pushers would be such a satisfying ASMR experience. I think it would really enhance the enjoyment of your reviews!
Own one. Upscaled it with a fold over clasp strap. Love it. Elegant. Comfortable, especially with a dress shirt. Not an every day wear, but certainly gets out!
I'm fortunate enough to own a 2006 white/silver dial DeVille 2202 co-axial chronometer small seconds. Worn on an Omega navy blue alligator strap and deployment clasp. Such a beautiful watch and everything you say Teddy. Sits very well in my collection of other Omega watches. Perhaps my favourite.......
I really do like this watch. There are just so many things that look like it. Both with more or less history and for more or less money. It's also one of those watches where you really might consider grey market, as much as I hate to say it, since they're often available for around half of that retail price stated in the video new.
Yes, I have bought from MaMaCoo more than once. I even bought a new Omega Speedmaster which came with the fancy box and packaging. I am thrilled with all my purchases here. I would purchase from MaMaCoo again for sure.
The De Ville line is often undeservedly overlooked. It was this line that Omega equipped first with co-axial movements. But I have to say that from my view Omega was much bolder with that line around 15 years ago thant it seems now. The Hour Vision which is seen at 1:00 on the right comes to mind but for me the most exciting one was the Chronoscope. Back then I fell in love with that watch but it was too expensive for the first purchase. This year I finally purchased a pre owned but unworn Chronoscope with red dial and black subdials. The former owner bought it during a business trip in Japan. It's a model I never saw before on anyones wrist. Even the staff in my local Omega Boutique here in Hamburg haven't seen this model before. Its craftsmanship and details are even one step above the Planet Ocean Chronograph from the same era which I also own.
In 1997 or so, I almost bought a brand new De Ville in gold on a strap for $2,500 at an AD, and back then it was a more manageable size (for my small wrists) of 34 or 36. I really liked it and was impressed by the affordability, but I had fairly recently bought a SS DJ and was much younger and couldn't justify the cost at the time.. Sigh.
I own the second generation De Ville Prestige with calibre 2500, co-axial Chronometer, same blue dial with the one in this video with vertical brush, rose gold plated hands and indices, navy blue leather strap. Love the watch. Attainable Omega for its price. I mostly wear light blue or crisp white dress shirts at work, when I wear blue, I go with my blue dial De Ville, when I wear white, I go with my Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch sapphire. Gonna add Seamaster 300M into my collection if they reduce the diameter and thickness just a little and a thinner less chunky bracelet 🙂
I had an interesting story with this watch, albeit the one generation prior. I happen to walk into authorized dealer and they were actually clearing out all of omegas at 50% off as they were not carrying the line any longer. Thinking this is the once in a lifetime opportunity (like the guy beside me who bought 13 tags), I quickly picked this up as one of the last pieces available. It was my first high-end Swiss watch. I remember bringing home and wearing around the house and then just taking a closer look, and comparing it against my Seiko presage, and it was at this point that it struck me the omega felt lower budget and the movement was noisier. I had an epiphany that day with this watch journey that what I was paying for was branding and not necessarily the product. No hate on those who buy omega, it's a good product but you pay a premium for the name.
I really like the white faced one with the gold applied markers, and brown leather strap. I’ve been pondering over this one for a while now. A beautiful dress watch.
I have this model with the sunburst pine green dial and i was really wondering why no one ever mentioned about the elegant current De Ville collection before! Especially with the 8800 Master Chronometer caliber! Btw, pine green dial looks fantastic in real!
In general I'd just like to see more reviews of watches under 5K I understand it can be boring looking at ETA 2824s and Sellita SW200s but I like the thought of showing some of the entry level pieces from luxury brands and maybe some of the higher end offerings from some of the more attainable brands. There's a lot of competition in the 3k-5k market and I'd love more coverage of it.
Ok this watch is actually fantastic. Only personal preference is I don’t like the hour markers to alternate between styles. IMO keep it all numeric, or all stylized marking but don’t mix them.
Let's see a video on the SBGX series from Grand Seiko. While the SBGW231 is the entry point for their mechanical movements, the SBGX is literally the most affordable GS at retail, period. As and owner (265), I think they are just delightful.
Currently, I have a 2010 Omega seamaster 300 M blue dial and a new seamaster 300 M black dial, thinking of buying a De ville with bracelet to be able to dress down sometimes.
Hi Teddy, Thanks for all of the great videos. I appreciate you highlighting entries into brands. This really gives the consumer some valuable information regarding next moves/selection. It is interesting that this watch is the same price as GS SBGM221. It would be interesting to compare these entry models. Would you say that the Omega is superior in the movement, but GS would win on overall aesthetics and finishing? Would love to hear your thoughts comparing these two models.
I have been back and forth with this watch, but can't seem to buy it. I think it's the hands, as they may appear harder to read the time at certain angles and when the light reflects on it or the dial design is not balanced?Really hope Omegas catches up on popularity and demand, as they make better watches. I have the AquaTerra and love it better than my newer Explorer 40. Would you guys have any other suggestions for dress watches? I bought the Tissot Le locle (silver dial on black leather) because of Teddy's review and how good looking it is w great features, but now I want to get a higher horology stamp on the dial. torn between this Omega De Ville, IWC Portofino, Cartier tank among others. Great video, now I will visit the AD later haha. Thanks!
Those are all great choices (love the Portofino) to look at. 2 other brands with great history and beautiful dress watches are Longines and Baume & Mercier…Teddy sells both brands and has many videos on both.
@@GoTerpsGoBlue been looking at longines too, great designs :) baumatic 5days is also good but for the price I would rather go Omega, IWC, Cartier. Thank you
Hello Teddy, you sold this to me to be honest. However, what is up with the very short lugs that Omega has used in the his model and also the Tresor line; The lugs on the Tresor are beyond short and has left me conflicted, beautiful dial but the lugs are sort of a deal breaker. This Prestige model does have the shorter lugs but not as extreme as those on the Tresor, the dial on the prestige is one that harkens back to so many Omega models, it is a classic. Thanks for the insight
Given the availability of thousands of good straps online, it's time to give a deeper examination of the idea that a 19mm lug width limits choices. I have a Longines Heritage Flagship with 19's and I have three really nice straps for it. Speaking of the Longines, I personally wouldn't trade it for this watch straight up. But that's just me.
For me, Omega is pretty much the only 'premium' brand watch I want to own. I currently own one and am hovering around my second one. It's just for me to enjoy, most people don't look twice at my watch. Crucially, no-one ever asks me 'is it a genuine one?'. My speedmaster racing is on my wrist every day and I'll probably keep it forever. My other watches are spinning lonely in their winder.
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the MaMaCoo has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
I live the seamaster, speedmaster ,and constellation models. I still gotta see more DeVille models so far it's hit or miss for me. I like the red dial models but overall I'm just not as into those models
Teddy, Assuming that price is absolutely no object, which wrist watch mechanical calibre is the very best certified chronograph today ? In theory the Rolex Chronergy delivers +/- 2 seconds per day but if you check Rolex forums then you’ll note that they did a survey and found that these calibres fell short of the claim… In fact many were not that reliable with amplitude then timekeeping issues. To date the issue has yet to be resolved by Rolex.
If by best you mean most precise, and if using a quartz regulator on top of a mechanical movement doesn't bother you, probably a Grand Seiko with a Spring Drive. Some of them are coming in at around a half second a day stated and performing even better with little variance from the factory. If you don't mind self-regulating, the options open up considerably since you can get a lot of watches close to 0.0 and many will stay there for quite a while. I have a Ball Engineer that is still coming in at +0.3s/day and it hasn't been opened up in nearly two years. Zenith is known for having pretty accurate timekeeping out of the box and owners of the old Daytonas with El Primero calibers often swear by them still being better than the newer models after all this time.
I would like to see this tested. From Omega FaQ: All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the components ensuring the water resistance are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming at depths of up to 30 metres underwater for extended periods without restriction.
When I got my omega, they give your your own master chronometer card that you can use to sign into omega site to see your specific watches test and how it performed. I do believe they will test the 30m resistance just as they did my 600m resistance on my PO
Honestly, if it was priced at around low $3,000 itd def get more attention and will dominate the market in the 3k pricing of luxury watch. Where it sits now just under 5k, there r too many options
The previous gen is way better tbh. 36MM 2500D and 9.9mm thickness for 1.9K USD NOS. It wears like a dream; the gold indices on silver dial are a timeless classic with railroad minute makers. 🎉🎉🎉
Love your content, you should do a comparison between the entry level and most expensive and most sold, just to show the differences and what you get for your money
Cheapest in the Omega catalogue, but still a chunk of change. However, when you look at the movement and quality and compare it to a Rolex OP, it's great value.
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. amzwatch watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
“First Luxury watch” - like it will become easier to spend even more money after you have bought a few 😅 I like looking at these watches for some reason, but I would not spend this much money on a watch, that will wear and tear and depreciate over time. The watch is really nice though 🥰

The previous gen is way better tbh. 36MM 2500D and 9.9mm thickness for 1.9K USD NOS.
It wears like a dream; the gold indices on silver dial are a timeless classic with railroad minute makers. 🎉🎉🎉
I’d swear I heard “De-Ville-itating” in there.
With the right amount of training you can pretty much build something very similar for 700ish dollars
That date horribly located above the 6. So close, Omega. So close.
just bought my new paytech phillip
Aww '' The Omega DEvice '' :)
This one needs a new dial!
“First Luxury watch” - like it will become easier to spend even more money after you have bought a few 😅
I like looking at these watches for some reason, but I would not spend this much money on a watch, that will wear and tear and depreciate over time.
The watch is really nice though 🥰
