I think the thing that you will always have as an edge in “instructional” videos here on good ol’ youtube is the fact that you show your techniques happening in real time. These will always be greater than “in theory” type instruction because seeing you use it against real opponents and EVEN showing the possible failures that always exists in combat, ALSO helps because that just lets you know the risks with each move. Great stuff as always Jeff!
this is actually something i never thought about, i just thought about dodging or trying to wrestle them off instead of using these tactics to set them up for a strike or use their strength against them, this works perfectly with my style, thanks
You the man Jeff, your shadowboxing routines and breakdowns have been an incredible resource for my continual training through quarantine. Hope you're well and look forward to seeing you in action soon!
Holy cow bro. Your explanation is crisp you. Every video you get better and better. I love how your sprawls always start similar but then branches into different scenarios depending on how your opponent reacts. I would love really love to train with.
Finally, a good video telling you how to fight a grappler. I really don’t like ground grappling, but I’ll need to learn it to be able to fight grapplers
Awesome, very useful advice ! For some reason, I laughed out loud at the "we don't knee our opponents in the head during sparring" ! The tone of your voice was priceless, kind of like a grown up scolding some kids about obvious stuff ! Keep up the good work !
Nice2x! Love this lesson Sprawl and Brawl! First time hearing this words and it sounded nice to me! Thanks brother for this videos! I bought some double end bag to train with my head movement and punching agility the video you posted about head movement inspired me to train more with my head movement. Peace out brother! Thank you.
Good stuff, I need to practice takedown defense more myself. Jeff one thing that always bothers me about your high kicks....you often throw them at close range especially on an exit, but you turn your hips when you don't need to. Maybe this is just a stylistic difference but it seems to me this is exactly what the crescent kick is for, when you want to throw a kick to the head at close range. I think it's better because you can just throw it from a squared position, you don't have to turn your hips, so it's faster.
Jeff, that opening sequence caught me off guard lol. I had to play it back like 4 times before the next clip showed and I did the "pause and play" on that sprawl and combo you did. Very impressive on the visual awareness of your opponents defensive posture, and speed and accuracy of all 3 strikes. And the head kick was clean and beautiful. 100% KO if that was a real fight. Now I'll continue to the rest of the vid 👊🏽
@@MMAShredded Oh did I ever, as usual. Always love how you show your FAILURES in sparring. Listen man straight up if I wanted to train with you for real like asap, how would I go about contacting you to do that bro? *Edit I know you're somewhere in Canada, I'm in Wisconsin not that far away either
Dont forget that most of the MMA competitions have rules that give deliberate advantages to grapplers against strikers. For example the ban of knee strikes against the face of a takedown rush or an up to down elbow strikes to the head
Hi there, sir! Could you please make a video on calf kicks? I love to throw them, but sometimes I'm afraid of hitting my partners' shins. I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on it, and how you use them yourself! Thank you so much! I've learned a lot from your video's and I truly appreciate it. Oss. 🙏
It increases the surface area of your head when you wear headgear. Assuming where strikes would normally miss or glace off your head with no headgear, instead end up as a hit because you have headgear on.
I'm mainly a boxer, but I've done wrestling, some karate, and a tiny bit of Muay Thai, but my friend is 100% grappler, we plan on sparring soon, you know boxing vs wrestling. It's scary cause it could go either way, I could knock him out, or he grabs me putting me on the ground in a second and I'm done for. I hope this video will help.
Yo Jeff, I have a question. Where I live there's nothing resembling a wrestling gym for at least 30km, which means I can't reliably train any of these kinds of skills. Is it possible to grasp some rudimentary basics from training alone?
Isn’t tactic 7 illegal under unified rules? Great techniques though, these are the “middle areas” of mma with not many instructional videos, thanks Jeff!
This is a good video, but a black belt in BJJ will probably adapt to the situation and either give the striker a tough challenge or they would defeat the striker, still a great video and it still teaches you how to defeat Grapplers.
Would it be possible to make a video on tips for absolute beginners? from things like choosing gyms, or styles, and general advice for people who want to commit to their first time wearing gloves? Your videos have been really inspiring, but taking that first step in the dark is still... especially as there are, it seems to me, too many phoney gyms and all..
ill write your suggestion down and see what I can do! I hope you do find a gym and start training soon. Most gyms have free trial classes, so I would drop by a few different gyms and check out the vibe/environment. See if you get along with the team/coaches etc.!
The editing has really improved lately but could you possibly slow to 25% or something similar instead of quick stop-starts? It's a bit distracting and takes away from the flow of your sparring.
@@MMAShredded If you could use slow motion instead of the pause, that would be good. The reason being that you use a slow motion fade in-out of the highlighted area, it is much easier to follow and understand what that specific move is doing in relation to the entire sequence as the other body parts are moving as well. Sorry if that was not clear, I can try to PM you some examples if you'd like.
Watched a pro fight where a fighter took a brutal knee to the face while he was on his back. for this particular promotion, that was an illegal move. That guy took his injury time, came back and won the fight. That being said, that's gotta be a hard hit to come back from.
Lastly, do you prefer to be on the balls of your feet or spread out your feet during sprawls? I've learned to be OFF your balls-of-feet in wrestling because you could be stood up and taken down easier

Hey jeff, how do you feel about headgear for sparring? Think its actually worse for your brain?
I dont think its worse but I find it weighs my head down and blurs my vision (maybe headgear to big) so I find I get hit more with it on then off
It increases the surface area of your head when you wear headgear. Assuming where strikes would normally miss or glace off your head with no headgear, instead end up as a hit because you have headgear on.
