Note: Outdated care standards were talked about in the video that was filmed in 2018. Our standards for America and for our rescue, have since been upgraded.

You should have destroyed the cages before throwing them in the trash, could be someone seeing them and thinking "oh! nice cage! i'm gonna get a hamster!"
Nice video and I really enjoyed the voiceover, also their new enclosures are a whole world better than the old ones so nobody should be complaining about the size.

They're a beautiful bunch. The wound on the dad is appalling, they're so lucky you got them away from where they were!
On noticing the shy female get her head stuck in the toilet tube, a good tip is to cut toilet tubes given to Syrian hamsters along the length. If the hamster insists on trying to go through the tube, it will open instead of trapping them and making them panic.

This is why I take the paper towel rolls from work, because their opening is wider than the normal paper towel rolls.

I found a hamster once at the hallway in the building I live in. I took her home and put her in a rabbit carrier I had already at home. I printed a posters and I gave them on the doors, but nobody responded so I bought a nice large cage and she lived with me happily. I think somebody just got rid of her like that. I foster care cats and I have seen some horrible stuff, people can be really cruel.

    • @fobija1378
      @fobija1378 5 років тому +4

or owners just gave up on him?
My friends hamster used to escape at least 3 times (apparently the cage was with like defect where one bars where wider then others, and you wouldnt notice as the cage was rabbit cage). So when the hamster went missing without return, they gave up.

Yeah sadly people can often be cruel. .. It just baffles me how many people in the world just cruelly dump or leave their pets somewhere. .. My pets are my world, my family, I cry when any pass away, I just really don't understand people. ..

It’s so sweet and lovely for you to do this out of your own pocket, I’m from Australia so we don’t have hamsters but if I lived in America I would love to be able to help a skittish/shy hamster just by giving it a nice home💖

I couldn't agree with you more, these animals are considered throw away pets but luckily only a few people in my life time have ever given me that vibe of "I see animals as things, not pets" but some people just don't value them as much. Hopefully communities like the pet community online will help change that.

My previous hamster, Gidget, was really shy and jumpy. I tried to bond with her a multitude of times. Trying to go slowly to make sure she was comfortable. But still, while she would take treats from me she would not come near me otherwise. She often bit because of this so I ended up just talking to her and watching her from outside the cage, which she loved. She often would hear me go into my room and would come out and make as much noise as possible until I said hello to her

I didn't adopt them. I'm a foster home. I take them in from bad situations or urgent situations, give them a temp place to live and then place them in a loving home for adoption. I do have my own personal hamsters but this rescue was apart of my foster home. My current personal Hamsters are Hannibal, Chunky Chip, Reinhart, Sahara and now Zelda after she became my foster fail due to her surgery.

I hope your other hamster is feeling better! ❤️ I don’t know if you believe in this sort of thing (and I don’t mean to offend you if you don’t), but I hope our hamsters are running around in hammy heaven just playing together and digging up a storm and not beating each other up, lol! Cuz maybe in hammy heaven they have enough space that they don’t fight! 😊

When we did notice that one of the hamster had scars we did separate them into separate cages
From watching your videos I’m glad to be getting informed of what we did wrong with caring for the hamsters
We gave them things like that natural bedding thinking that it would be fine because why would they have bad stuff for your hamster at the store

We love your channel and have used a lot of your advice before we got our first hamster(a robo dwarf) a few weeks ago. We made a bin cage that he mostly ignores the toys in ha. A few days ago I bought a large lot of habit trail(I think) cages and tubes and I planned to somehow put them together to give him a playground. I saw you just threw them out though. Just curious if you think my idea is bad and I should just stick to his cage?

Here is an idea, attach the tubes and other cages to the main bin cage. SO LONG as the main bin cage is 450 sq inches of unbroken floor space, attachments to it are fine. However i dislike crittertrails in general. Too much to clean, waste of money...So you'll learn once you start using them how much effort it will be having to clean them. I went through the entire Tiny Tales line to try to persuade people away from horrible enclosures like them so my opinion is to not use em in general or come up with a fun way to attach them.

Oh my goodness I can tell they're so happy already just being with a proper owner and being separated! I have a little red eyed Argente dwarf hamster named butterscotch. She is my profile image! it's so sad to think she could have been housed with another dwarf when she is so territorial and would most likely kill the other dwarf. Thanks for saving those Syrian hamsters

Hi! Can you maybe make a video about how to set up a foster room for hamsters? I think it's interesting that you foster hamsters.

What size containers do you use please and how do you hang the water bottles please as I am looking at getting a hamster but whilst watching your videos I have realised the cage I do have is way to small

Hi I was just wondering how do you foster a hamster, I can not seem to find anything online I hope someone can give me a suggestion. I would be looking for somewhere around Maine or New Hampshire.

Munchie I have a question. I ran across this bedding that is lavender scented and another one that is some sort of a vanilla scent (I forget what type of vanilla scent it was) . I was wondering if either one would be safe for my syrian hammy?

Harleen Quinzel Scented beddings are not safe since hamsters have very sensitive noses and respiratory systems.

I wouldn't recommend it due to their noses being sensitive. I made the mistake of doing that for my Hannibal back in Jan and honestly i don't believe he liked it too much. I had no idea the bedding was scented. The scent was pleasant but it was probably overwhelming to him.
