8 years old hamster... My first thought: this family has hamsters for 8 years now and every time one dies, parents are secretly replacing it with a new one. The kid simply never cared enough to notice.
My mum used to do this with me as a kid... I had a rabbit that got mauled by a fox (my mum literally turned her back for 2 secs) and she replaced it with a identical one but the rabbit she replaced it with didn’t like me so I soon figured out it wasn’t the same one
My mom had a hamster in college. She got it for $1 at a local pet store. Less than a month later it was sick, so she took it to the vet. The vet encouraged her to put it down, but she insisted on paying $200 for the surgery it needed. She went a several weeks without food to pay for it. The hamster lived for another year and a half.
I got my hamster my senior year of college (so a very busy time), and I still always made time to play with him at night and clean his cage every week. And now I am fostering a cat and her 4 newborn kittens and I still have time for him and my mouse. I wish people understood animals need and deserve your time every day and not get something they won’t have time for or care about enough. Thanks for making this video and bringing awareness to these kinds of mistakes!
In college he was in a smaller cage so once a week was needed. Now that he is in a 40 gallon long tank, I clean it every 3 weeks. But thanks for the tip
Quite a few years ago my mom wanted to get me and my brother each our own hamster, we both picked Syrians but mine was quite larger than my brothers.when we went to check out my mom was told she didn’t need to buy two cages that’d she just be wasting money buying both of the cages and as long as they had their own hides, wheels , and bowls they could live together. Well needless to say the next day I woke up before everyone else to get ready for school and had found my hamster had killed and ripped apart my brothers hamster ( the spine and all was exposed).. I covered the cage and my mom took the whole thing back to the store very angry .. the lady working when my mom took the cage in said that she should of never been told to house two Syrians together and they pulled the footage from that day to see who was helping and if she really had intended to buy two cages.. it all came out that my mom was telling the truth .. she received a full refund for everything and they tried giving us another hamster but after it all .. just couldn’t bring ourselves to get another for awhile. I believe the employee was fired because I never saw him there again This was not a chain pet store but I’m not going to list the name because they truly are a amazing store that cares deeply about their animals and even takes In owner surrenders of reptiles, birds, and small animals . And they work with our local shelter and have only one or two cats brought over from the shelter and they adopt them out from the store . This was not a store issue more of a single employee spreading the wrong information. I fully support this store now that I’m a adult and I’ve seen them refuse to sell someone a animal multiple times because the person didn’t have the right knowledge or refused to buy the correct items Inorder to properly care for the animal .
Casey W it sucks that that guy was so uneducated about hamster care :( I’m glad that the store cares about it’s animals and fired him and that you guys know about the proper care now!
Casey W wow... they should really give these employees little tests to complete just to see if they have basic care knowledge to be working in a pet store. Or give them training of some sort. Little pamphlets? anything!
It's not up to the employees to give you 100 percent correct information. It's up to you to do research before getting a pet. It's so well known that syrians need to live alone so the fact that you believed the workers is crazy and completely your fault.
Ava Peters OP was likely a child at the time? And for the mother, and the end of the day if someone seemingly professional assures you of a subject, you are going to be inclined to believe it. Blaming OP and their mother in this situation seems weird?
You inspired me to adopt a hamster instead of buying a hamie 💕 his name is bumble bee and lives now in a 40 gallon tank 🐝thank you for al you're great advice. Btw my uncle has a local pet store I gave him some advice about cages wheels etc and he even stop selling cotton fluff and whired wheels I'm really happy about that I'm sorry if my English is bad I'm from Europe and English isn't my first language 😂
I actually messaged the person re-homing the hamster with the cotton fluff since they are very close to me, about how it is unsafe and they never got back to me :(
Usually they don't want to hear it and they are rehoming the pet anyways, so they tend to not care or get defensive. So you need to evaluate the situation before contacting since being talked at usually bring with it a defensive response.
True…I did this years ago before Internet. Had no idea. Thought I was doing my best buying those stupid little cages. I Don’t understand why pet stores can sell those prisons. SMH
This reminds me of the hamster I rescued when I was 15. The situation was even worse than any of these in in video. *Trigger warning: animal abuse * A friend of a friend bought 2 small hamsters (I don't know the english name for the species). Her mom didn't want her to have a pet so she had to hide them. She kept them in a transport box in her closet. They only had a food and a water bowl and nothing else. Her mom found out and she "had to get rid of them". (Her words) When I saw this I just took them with me. I never had had hamsters before but I had an empty cage that would fit. I made some phonecalls and rehomed one of the hamsters the next day. The story had a happy ending: Iread everything I could about hamster care and fell in love with owning hamsters.
I'm so thankful my parents were willing to care for my gerbils, rabbit, and guinea pigs while I'm away at college. I got my rabbit during middle school then got my gerbils and guinea pigs during my freshmen year of high school, the five of them are my love and joy. I'm going towards a degree in Veterinary Technology and the school is in a very small town just an hour away so I stay on campus during the week and then commute back home for the weekends to change the bedding, clean their cages and spend time with them.
Wtf if I’m going to college, my hammy is coming with me. I’ll just get a travel things and when I get there I. An just go get a cheap bin. I refuse to leave my hammy behind. He brings me so much joy. We have so many staring contests, and even though he pees on me sometimes I still love him
SavianJonesArt be careful, most college will not allow any animals except for fish in 5 gallons or less, they will make you get rid of ur pet or expel you. If your college isn’t pet friendly be sure to find him a good home or keep the hammy at home
Itdatbexxa that’s not how a college works. If you choose to dorm, then it’s irresponsible. Dorming is so expensive and paying a ton of money for a dorm room when you have pets that you know can’t live there is irresponsible and you won’t be “expelled” you’ll be evicted from the dorms.
Just adopted a robo hamster who was impulse bought by my friend for his girlfriend, long story short they broke up and the hamster ended up with someone who didn't want her. She's in my care now and I will give her a good life
I’m rescuing a hamster soon in my area. The photos were so so bad, this poor Syrian in a tiny critter trail. STACKED with bedding no idea how the thing even moves... my families upset that im bringing another animal in the house but I’m going to rehome him to someone I trust. I just need to save this little guy :(
I don't even have hamsters but I love watching ur videos cuz u care so much and are knowledgeable and it's so important for ppl to realize and be taught about all these kind of things
I'm in University and I still make time for my hamster. He even manages to calm me down and the silent sounds of his cork wheel always put me to sleep even when I am really anxious. Yeah, I'm often out late, but in that case you just have to adjust your schedule a little bit. Fill up the water before you go, make sure he has food.. it's actually not that hard to do. And once I'm home, having my hamster in his outside area is the perfect way to end the day relaxed. It's not that big a deal, and I was studying law before and now Psychology. You just have to sit down and make a plan, then it will all fit. Even if I was also working parttime, still would have enough time for my hamster. because when I learn really late in the evening, aren't I mostly home anyway? Libraries close at some point, at least they do where I live. I don't get it. Most of the people I know have animals and they manage to fit them into their schedule just fine. One I know is working full time and studying, and she has a dwarf and is able to care for him just fine. I might understand that the college is very far away or that the costs of college, room and everything were higher than anticipated because of unlucky circumstances, or that you live with someone who doesn't want hamsters in their apartment and you don't have any other options etc. like, really desperate situations. But just no time? I dunno, don't wanna judge anybody, but that kinda sounds like they weren't even trying to fit the animal into their schedule, considering that hamsters are nocturnal and all that, and if that's the case, why did they buy the animal in the first place?
I'm a senior in college right now and I have a two year old female Syrian hamster that I have had since she was around six weeks old. I still make time to pay with her and clean her cage. You got the pet knowing that you were going to go to college, if there is a doubt as to whether you will be able to care for it or not, then don't get the animal in the first place. I would never have once thought about getting rid of Bambi just because life got a little busy or stressful. I brought her into my home with the promise that she would live out her life with me.
I had to research about hamsters for 2 years, and your channel has help me ALOT in my research and now I'm finaly getting a Robo dwarf hamster in 2 months! 🐹❤
Thank you for all the help!! Yesterday I adopted a hammy his name is now Hershey he lives in a 40 gallon tank. I was originally going to put him in a 20 gallon but then I did some research (from you) and realized I needed a 40 gallon. He is so happy and has so much space all because of you! So thank you so much for all the correct information.!! 😻😻 from Emma
Been waiting for this my favorite series Kind of sad that people dont value hamsters as much as other pets I mean u wouldnt shove a cat in a cardboard box and say thats all the room u get
My little birdies are biting and terrified of me And when I was a little younger 1 year my friend who claimed she knew about animals shoved my birds in a tiny box and me being the stupid kid I was let it happen I would be an idiot to do it now Now they still hate me but they live nicely
OMG I thought it was common sense to never put a male and female of any species together if one or both aren't sterilized UNLESS you're actually trying to breed them.
@@kelliemichaud1271 I wish people wouldn't give their kids pets as holiday or birthday gifts. I used to have an internship at a wildlife preserve and part of my job was going out and catching domestic rabbits that people dumped. This was especially common for the months following easter. It was so infuriating and it was so extremely stressful on the rabbits. This was marshland so there wasn't stuff that they could really eat and the process of catching them was super stressful on them. Most of the rabbits we caught where large rabbits but I don't want to think about how many small rabbits where dumped only to die before someone spotted them
One year I got a hamster a day after my birthday only because I have been wanting one for over a year and did a lot of research and I know a lot about them so its not that bad if the child does a lot of research know what it needs. But if its just here you go you get a hamster and they know like nothing about them that's bad so it depends
When I was younger (around 8 years old) after my guinea pig died, I got a hamster. The saler of the pet store told to my mother that a hamster needed to be with another one, so he advised us to pick two males in order to don't get babies... 4-5 months later, one of them fought the other and killed him... After that, I think I never trust salers anymore in pet store xD And now, I got a rabbit, living without any cage, which is very rare in my country (France). I can't imagine there the reaction of a seller if I ask him in a pet store if a rabbit can live in a flat/house, without any cage xD
I gave up on my dream college because of my pets, now I have a third dog, and I really have no chance of going unless I get my own home and can travel/ live off campus, I legit would cry and night thinking about leaving my pets for that long at a time, I love them. The only pets I’ve had to rehome were my chickens which were given to me by friends, they had a good heart and wanted to surprise me with pets since they know I love animals, but one of the chicks grew into a rooster and was growing and my neighbors complained :( other than that I strive for the best for my lil babies!
I'm in college, and am a proud mom to 3 different pets! All have cages way bigger than their species requires. I don't understand people saying they can't take care of their pets anymore because of college! I'm not sure if regulations are different in America, but where I'm from it's pretty normal for college students to be able to take care of a pet just fine! :)
most american schools won't let you have any pets in dorms. If they do its basically just 5gal tanks. I've even heard of people having trouble with schools allowing service dogs. Its worse in my opinion because there are some schools that mandate that you live in the dorms for the first year or the first two years
I'm in college and have two male robos from the same litter. Even I can make time for them. I'd never give up my pets just because I'm busy. It's a poor excuse.
It’s really great that you are raising awareness about this subject. Whenever I tell people about this, they say pet care is subjective. It’s not subjective! Sometimes it is, but usually it’s not! Thanks so much for these amazing videos.
Dwarfs can live in pairs under the right type of circumstances but I usually advise against it due to the outcome of if they begin fighting. It's terrifying
I have 2 male robo hamsters they live together and they are so good together they have a little trouble with food but they can share and if they don't they get 2 bowls but apart from that they are so good they play run and sleep together. Check mine out if u like on my UA-cam and see them there good together
Munchie's Place happened to me I was ill informed and we housed two dwarfs together, it didn’t end well 😥, thankfully the one that’s left is living out his days happily, he’s 2 years and 1 month old, in a pretty decent cage (530 sq inch)
I've bumped into your channel today because I wanted to become more informed about hamsters since I really want to get one and it's amazing how passionate you look and how you do really love these animals! I wish there are more people like you out there!
I have a HUGE problem with the listings where parents are listing a hamster (or any animal really) because thier child no longer has time or interest in the animal. I see this often with parents of young children and it angers me. It teaches them that these animals are disposable instead of teaching them the proper responsibility that comes with getting a pet. My young son does have a hamster but he has been taught that getting a pet isn't a responsibility that you can just pass along if it gets too hard or if the experience of owning the pet is somehow different than you thought it would be.
I love this series. This makes me so mad. The 2 hamsters that are different species had 2 40 gallon tanks and ovo? That husbandry was awesome as far as the cage requirements, but it is so awful that no one had told them it’s not a good idea to keep hamsters together. I personally won’t even advise keeping dwarves together and I will even refuse a sale to anyone who comes into my work trying to put 2 together or has a cage that’s too small. I care for those hamsters like they’re all my hamsters and I refuse to let someone take them that’s not ready.
Munchie's Place I saw a post recently where it was selling a hamster and babies and it stated that you could sell the babies for up to $15 each and that you’d make about $300 and all I could think of was most people can’t even give their unwanted babies away and this person is trying to sell them to another person who would see it only has money profit and when they can’t get that they’re just going to get dumped because the person doesn’t really care about them and that is what sucks the small animals that many people love our use and abuse because they cost $15 and they live for 2 to 4 years into that they’re expendable the people and that is so wrong I could go forever on that
I'm so happy I found your channel! I found your channel from the Prevue Pet Products 528 cage review. I ordered it online and was searching for a review and found you! I'm so glad I did! You teach others and I so much and you're such a good soul. Love you Munchie!!! Also, I snuck my hamster into college. Made a 50 gallon bin cage and brought it too college. I don't live far from school, so I'll bring her back and forth to her other cage when I go home. She seems happy with the company. I can't leave her on her own. She needs her company, interaction, treats and free time!
My last little hammy was a robo. I never could get her tamed but I still didn’t just dump her on someone else because of that. I kept her in a 40g breeder my dad has never used and she lived a full 2 years. She was a little cutie to say the least.
I know the feeling. My current hamster is from someone at my mothers work who put 3 djungarian hamsters in a critter trail cage and was angry/confused when they fought. I’m annoyed just thinking about it.
Thank you for doing what you do I’ve been watching your videos the past couple of days and I’ve learned so much about hamsters and other small animals. I wish I found you sooner your so fun and interesting to watch.
Most disturbing ad I've seen was a hamster being kept in a bowl marketed for beta fish (obviously too small for them too, it was maybe .8 gallons), but the fighting is very upsetting too
that poor baby at 16:02.. i had, and still have, a female hammy that was super shy and bit a lot, and it took me a full year to tame her, and she’s still shy at times, but i would never give up on her!!
Here in my place I can only find the bedding like in the one here 5:20 and I am not sure what kind of wood shaving it is. Like in my head when I entered the pet store I’m like why is it all wood shavings?! And there’s scented ones?? I do not want my hamster to have breathing issues
Watching your vids made me check the size of cage i have for my syrian hamster (its actually a cage for a dwarf Rabbit) but its actually bigger than the minimum so im glad you always bring up how much room and things they really need so they can be happy and not stressed out
My teddy bear hamster lived for almost 4 years in his 4 story HUGE enclosure! He had his wheel and a little house, which he loved to sleep in and let his man parts hang out of the window. I was SO upset when he passed. Old age. This was back in 2003. Loved that little guy! Treat them well. They deserve it.
You think people would see how short of a lifespan hamsters have and easily work around that so they don't have to re-home the poor things. I just got my first hamster yesterday, male Campbell's Russian dwarf. After watching a ton of your videos along with others and doing some research I decided he'd make a nice addition to the family. And boy does his grandpa love him! My dad keeps coming in when he can to check on the little dude, I decided on the name River for him. God forbid if I finish up college before his little life comes to an end my dad wouldn't let the little guy go. He's loved by all! And I'm looking forward to seeing little River live a happy healthy life in his bin cage (an idea from your videos). Here's to hoping all the little ones you rescue will eventually find good homes
Sry im late i had a school thing but notif squad🤪 Also at first i thought these type of videos were just for views but when you explain it like that in the beginning rlly changes perspective
A small percentage has said otherwise. -_- Yes if you put "Bad" infront of something, people tend to click on it more and have something to say about it but when i'm trying to get people to stop impulse buying pets or to consider adopting homeless pets on CL or petfinder, shelters and etc, i do hope the video will do well but my intentions are always to help out the animals. UA-cam is not my job but lately it's been helping a tad bit when it comes to taking care of the animals. So i'm thankful for that. It took a good 8 years to find something i'm passionate to make and talk about in videos, so i'm happy to make these and get my voice out.
Munchie's Place yeees your passion to help animals is real and I would never question that and its so considerate of you to donate your UA-cam money to helping animals this shows why I support your channel even more
This was not so long ago, I was looking for another hamster because my other one had died a few months ago, and I went into this pet store. I found two syrian hamsters and they looked older than 5 months. They were FIGHTING. The store didn’t do anything to stop them, I still hope these hamsters are okay and are in a better place
I have had robos for a couple of years and my first 2 which were sisters that I adopted from a bad home they were terrified when I first got them but after a thew weeks they both seemed to want to sleep in my dressing gown and they would plank out and fall asleep it’s adorable they both have such a connection with me and my partner we love them to bits 😍
The college excuse is so stupid to me.. I live in the UK and so when it came to UCAS (applying to university) my first thought was “is there anywhere near me that I like?” so that I wouldn’t be leaving my parents to look after my hamster and guinea pigs - which I would never want to do as I love my pets. The main reason I got them in the first place was to help with my anxiety as I grow up into adulthood and have some lovely little animals to give all my love to. Long story short, I have applied to places in my city or near it... So yea, dumb excuse! TLDR: If someone uses college or university as an excuse, they probably never cared about the pet in the first place 🤷🏻♀️
I’m in college and while I can’t currently take care of my pets due to being in a dorm, my family is caring for my cat and fish. Neither of us would get rid of any of our pets for stupid reasons. We even have a cat that keeps peeing on stuff and yet she’s still with us because we couldn’t bear for her to get hurt or put down at a shelter.
I recently got a hamster, and when we went to pick her up she was housed with her sibling. This was a petstore, and there was only one of everything. When she started fighting, I picked her straight away to brake up the fight and to finally give her everything she needs. She was on the wheel a lot, so I'm guessing that she wasn't able to go on it at the store because of her sibling. This channel has helped me a lot about the care for a hamster. Please, if you are considering adopting a hamster, watch munchie.
So I ended up getting my husky (after EXTENSIVE research on the breed) from someone on Craigslist. We weren't positive that we wanted to get a husky from someone on Craigslist in the first place, but when we got to the home of the person rehoming our husky, we COULD NOT just leave him. He was living in their backyard, covered in fleas, ticks and mud. The man rehoming him told us that the wife would occasionally hit/kick at him, and this became apparent when our husky was scared of me for the first couple of weeks after we rehomed him. He was only $100. We've now had this husky for 2 years and he is thriving. He is a good boy and no longer scared of anyone.
When I first got Steve he was very.. Wild He screamed and once I poked him when I was a dumb 9 y/o trying to get him out of his tube and he bit me *hard* nonetheless I deserved it... After that I did more research and spent a lot more time with him. Now he’s really tame and very friendly! 😊 He is a year and a half old now!
Munchie's Place I am going to finish college in Indiana where I live now then move to Washington! My boyfriends son lives in Washington so we agreed to move after I’m finished with school! (:
My parents bought me a Hamster for christmas this year. I’m a 21 y/o woman, who genuinely loves and enjoys animals and makes sure that my animals are taken care of and have the proper care. However, my parents bought that tiny tales cage and i fully wanted to scream. The next day, i bought my lil guy a 40 gallon tank and decked his cage out. Gifting hamsters isnt ideal. These guys arent objects. They’re living beings. If you end up buying a hamster from craigslist, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Poor lil hammies.
15:38 lol it's so hard to tame robos, my hamster Norrin will never be very tame. When I kind of figured out he would never be the friendliest hamster sure I was a bit disappointed but that is no reason to rehome one. If they had done their research they shouldn't have gotten a robo if taming was such a high priority. Even though Norrin isn't very tame (I can pet him and hand him food though so he's actually come pretty far) he's such a joy to just watch and he's my little fluffy son and I love him more than anything.
I use to own another robo besides my Hannibal who i have now (Who was in the process of being tamed till i ruined it, might talk about that in a future video) but anyways i adopted a Robo back in 2011 who was as tamed as can be which now a days is quite rare to have since Robos are the hardest to tame. I don't know how i did it or if he just came like that but he was a very chill Robo and i loved him so. But i know what i'm getting myself into when i take in a living being such as a pet/companion. So it's just sad to see something like this as well. :/
I rescued a Syrian hamster once. Her living conditions were so disgusting. Her cage was broken, her wheel was too small to even stand on and she had chewed through her bars. Because she’d chewed on the bars her nose was red raw and scabbed over. The only “chew” she had was a bendy bridge. She was one and a half when I got her and she’d never been held. We never could tame her because she was so terrified and had no physical contact. We improved her cage and her living standards as much as possible but she still wasn’t friendly, but she’d started to actually come out of her wooden house whenever someone walked into the room. Unfortunately she’s no longer with us, and we believe she was around three when she died. At least I made her life better for the last 18 months of her life. 💕
I LOOOVED this video sooo much😆You explain everything so well😊❤Hehe me and my rabbit actually watched this together🐰xX I really hope many people learn from this amazing video😊❤And i really hope all the pets on the CL ads will go to nice, loving homes with the proper care😊 xx
I'm a bit confused (only ever adopted stray cats). What's the difference between shopping and adopting? Is adopting like from a store (petco/petsmart/some place local) or is it adopting if you take in someone else's pet/a stray?
The term adopting usually implies you're taking the pet home. But since the 21st century we've tried to say "Adopt dont shop" as in taking a homeless pet and putting it in your home instead of intentionally bred and brand new pets who don't need rescuing or care but are made for the intention to either pass on their genes (AKC breeders), to profit off of a living thing (Petstores and backyard breeders) or to breed to make healthier pets (Ethical breeders).
This was really helpful, thanks 💕I go onto craigslist a lot so I want to be able to point out any bad adds. One question though, should you adopt an animal from a bad craigslist add to give the animal a new better home or should you avoid them?
If you understand the animals behavior and what to look out for and how to care for it, then adopting a soon to be homeless pet is worth it so long as you know that the animal may possibly have some behavioral or special needs. Only have i ever had 1 hamster who was neglected and turned aggressive due to improper care. But i understood its needs and when i went to rehome it, the owner knew exactly what she was getting and how to handle a cage aggressive hamster. Daisy was such a fun hamster to foster but putting your fingers in her cage would mean you'd get bit so it was fun to see her chase me around her enclosure as i rearranged it when she would make a mess. I've only had one person so far under this videos comments say that their hamster was extremely fearful and they didn't want it because of its neglectful past because of its behavior now. So you just need to think about it like you would with adopting a new pet. Every pet will either be to your liking or have something you may not have wanted. Everyone thinks a store bought hamster is nice and friendly but so many people return them because they don't understand they're babies that need time to adjust and to be tamed. :(
Thanks so much for your advice! If I am to ever get rats in the future, or another leopard gecko to add to my family I would definitely adopt rather than buy one. My leopard gecko I have now I had adopted from a wonderful rescue 3 years ago. It is so sad to see all this bad craigslist adds it breaks my heart to see animals in conditions like these. Some people have good reasons for re homing their pets, while others just get bored and no longer care about the animal they should be taking care of. 😢
First i want to share that you inspire me and I’m now rescuing 4 hamsters, 2 I’m adopting and 2 I’m re-homing (already found a home for one and it’s looking like I’ll find for the other one a home as well) so thank you munchie! From me and the 4 hamsters. Second I’ve heard that actually robos and dwarves can sometimes get along better than 2 of the same species so you might wanna read up on that, I haven’t looked too much into it as we don’t have robos here anyways so this information is not that relevant for me but I did come across it.. I’m not saying that’s ok to keep them together but that’s an information I came across and found it interesting...
Omg, there is a few hamsters for sale on Craigslist where I live, and one has a cage so small all that's in it is a mushroom hide, and what looks to be a 4 inch wheel. And the other one all the hamster has is a food dish water bottle. And that one is in and TRAVEL CAGE!!! Without a wheel!!! And the last one is a Syrian who this person's daughter got a a WEEK ago!!! The poor hammy is in a tiny critter trail. The smallest I've ever seen! And the ad just says, aunt got my daughter a hamster for her birthday and she just stopped taking care of it.
Yesterday I had an amazing experience at Petco. Like any store they sadly had 2 guineas in about a 10 gal tank and hammies in even smaller without chews BUT there was an employee who knew EVERYTHING about small pets. She had a self made cage for her animals that was large i assume. She was always called over to small animals bc of her knowledge and never tried to sell crittertrails, cotton fluff or wire wheels. She would nudge her Petco to make small change for the animals and some were made. I talked to her for 20min and was happy she worked there. PS: there was a poor bored syrain that looked so helpless that he had his head on the ground and the rest of his body on the saucer. It was funny but so sad that he was that DONE with his cage
It annoyes me so much if people give away their pets because they dont get them tamed ... I have had my at the moment oldest budgie for more than 6 years and he is not tamed! The other three arent tamed either. And I also have a really shy cat that took long to bond with me. But I love them non the less. If somebody wants a pet to pet it or cuddle it then they should get a friendly dog or even better: A plush teddy bear!
Something to note is that it's extremely common for hamsters to be given up and abandoned at pet shops. I got my Russian Dwarf hamster from my local Petco for free after he was given up by his owner. He was already tame, which was great, but he came in a critter trail and was incredibly stressed. I put him in a 10-gallon tank my friend gave me about a month previous with a new bottle and wheel before I could get a larger cage and he seemed so excited to get the extra room!
Hey Munchie ! I have one four year old male Guinea pig I’ve had for about three years. I got him and his brother from a lady that couldn’t take of them properly (small cage, Unclipped nails, dirty fur, and obese) over the course of three years I fixed them up. Started with a hutch but the wood rotted so I got the XL Living World Cage. A few months ago Albus (previously ‘Snickers’) my calico crested got sick and lethargic and it was too late at night to take him to the vet. He was put in towels and blankets and at around 3 am that morning he passed. It was out of the blue. My other boy which I still have named Severus (previously Oreo) was taken to the vet in the morning and had a minor respiratory infection, I gave him meds for about a month and he is fine now. Severus is living alone CURRENTLY. He is a black and white shot hair with a orange smudge on his forehead (only indication he was related to my other one). I’m taking him on Christmas vacation to Michigan and I have talked to my mom about getting him a baby boy to bond with. She seems persuaded but it would be great if you can add your saying to this comment! The baby will stay in my room away from Severus for a week and a half so I can monitor him. Then I will divide the cage in half for two weeks, and then I’ll put them in a neutral area to meet face to face (I will scatter food around the area) I will appreciate any comments to the subject. Wonderful video !
Im so mad that college or uni can be considered an excuse. I'm an engineering student and I have an hedgehog and its a blessing. The cleaning/feeding/socializing is not a big deal. I can snuggle with her while studying. Since their nocturnal, I dont feel bad leaving her during the day and I can see her while I stay at night in my apartment. Shes wonderful for my anxiety. Studying is no excuse 20$/ month is nothing for all the love.
17:00 saw this situation in a local animal shelter. A robo and campbell’s dwarf surrendered like this, living together in a tiny cage. The workers were too ignorant to separate them. I told them I’d adopt ONE and they DENIED me, saying they were bonded. I adopted them together so I could split them up, sigh.
I actually enjoy your videos because its giving me information of how to care for hamsters im actually starting to think about adopting a hamster but i dont know which one is suitable for me yet. Also i wanted to ask douse hamster feces and urin smell that strong?
Yes it can be but spot clean weekly and deep clean monthly for your hamsters cage. I have a care video on this subject. Should be in one of my playlists if you'd like to check it out.
When I first got rats my mom didn’t know they like to forage, and she’s always yell at me LOOK THERES NO FOOD WHY DONT YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM!! And we picked up one of their boxes and it was soooo heavy full of food we laughed soooo hard😂😂
When I saw that poor robo at 10:23 I felt sad even though he’s technically is a right size enclosure i feel it’s still too small. My robo is in a DIY bin cage which is 596 square inches of floor space
I can be sassy and some people get it while others don't. So welcome to the Munchkin Family. I'll try to be a bit nicer but i am very opinionated. You've been warned. XD
These ads are really scary... But on a different note, what is your opinion on custom made cages? Specifically cabinets or nightstands made into cages? I'm making one myself and I need to know what to do and what not to do.
As long as it's 450+ of unbroken floor space, then it sound work. A cabinet you'd be connecting the shelves with a tube I presume or a bridge for them to get up higher. The shelves should all have enough room where the hamster can run freely and not be crammed.
I completely agree with the beginning of this video. my syrian was taken back to the shop for being “aggressive” (he was in the adoption section) I took him right away and it was the easiest thing ever to tame him, he has never bitten me ever. barnaby is my sweet little boy and out of my five animals he is the nicest. I’m so glad I took him in :)
I bet they used the words "Aggressive" because the owners before you did something wrong and labeled a pet as such when they were at fault. But glad to hear your story of adoption. :)
Munchie's Place barnaby does have a chunk out of his ear, which makes me think he was put with another hamster, they obviously fought and he was labelled aggressive. but I’m glad he was brought back to the shop because I don’t think I could’ve got a better hamster :)
I was in the car with my 80-year-old mother and we were watching your video when you said they're going to bang, bang bang bang. And we laughed so freaking hard that was awesome 😁😂🤣😭
8 years old hamster... My first thought: this family has hamsters for 8 years now and every time one dies, parents are secretly replacing it with a new one. The kid simply never cared enough to notice.
Actually you make a good point but usually i see this with fish owners with kids.
Hagath omg that’s kinda smart
@@ytf2528 smart (in a way) but really sad
My mum used to do this with me as a kid... I had a rabbit that got mauled by a fox (my mum literally turned her back for 2 secs) and she replaced it with a identical one but the rabbit she replaced it with didn’t like me so I soon figured out it wasn’t the same one
@@geezlouise1216 man that's messed up. Especially with a rabbit, they have so much personality and love
Ye she sounds like a lovely mom
that’s heartwarming:3
That's niiiicccceee
true love for the hamster!😍
Good job mom... but I hope she meant she was eating poorly made cheap food instead of not eating at all.
But she is a great pet mom!
Rachel Ratajski you shouldn't clean there cage every week because it can cause wet tail
In college he was in a smaller cage so once a week was needed. Now that he is in a 40 gallon long tank, I clean it every 3 weeks. But thanks for the tip
He was only in the smaller cage for about 3-4 months however until I learned a 40 gallon long tank is better for Syrians
I got my hamster in elementary
here's to your cats never gettign to the mouse
I believe the employee was fired because I never saw him there again
This was not a chain pet store but I’m not going to list the name because they truly are a amazing store that cares deeply about their animals and even takes In owner surrenders of reptiles, birds, and small animals .
FinnSword agreed
You inspired me to adopt a hamster instead of buying a hamie 💕 his name is bumble bee and lives now in a 40 gallon tank 🐝thank you for al you're great advice.
I'm sorry because I know these are very serious but that "BANG BANG BANG" made me fall out laughing

Alaysha Ann I know right
True…I did this years ago before Internet. Had no idea. Thought I was doing my best buying those stupid little cages. I Don’t understand why pet stores can sell those prisons. SMH
Cant get over your hair its so pretty!
This reminds me of the hamster I rescued when I was 15. The situation was even worse than any of these in in video.
*Trigger warning: animal abuse *
A friend of a friend bought 2 small hamsters (I don't know the english name for the species).
The story had a happy ending: Iread everything I could about hamster care and fell in love with owning hamsters.
are those sphynx cats on your calendar in the background? i have two called rudy and george!
Yes they are. ❤️
What made you decide to get sphynxs? I've never actually heard anyone say they own one, but I've heard they have amazing personalities
So cute
Just adopted a robo hamster who was impulse bought by my friend for his girlfriend, long story short they broke up and the hamster ended up with someone who didn't want her. She's in my care now and I will give her a good life
I’m rescuing a hamster soon in my area. The photos were so so bad, this poor Syrian in a tiny critter trail. STACKED with bedding no idea how the thing even moves... my families upset that im bringing another animal in the house but I’m going to rehome him to someone I trust. I just need to save this little guy :(

~Axess•Enter~ 👏👏👏👏
~Axess•Enter~ I agree
I feel you! I'm an engineering student and my hedgehog helps me so much with my anxiety. The sound of her wheel helps me sleep at night

I live in Washington not far from that first ad you showed and I started laughing when I came across a couple weeks back. 8 years? Come on now.

Kind of sad that people dont value hamsters as much as other pets
I mean u wouldnt shove a cat in a cardboard box and say thats all the room u get
omfg i have same picture on my tiktok
My little birdies are biting and terrified of me
And when I was a little younger 1 year my friend who claimed she knew about animals shoved my birds in a tiny box and me being the stupid kid I was let it happen I would be an idiot to do it now
Now they still hate me but they live nicely
Cats love boxes
OMG I thought it was common sense to never put a male and female of any species together if one or both aren't sterilized UNLESS you're actually trying to breed them.
Could you please make a video about why pets should not be given as Christmas gifts :)
Sounds possible. Not sure if I'll remember this video suggestion but it's a good idea. I'll try to keep it in mind. Ty.
You can also add how rabbits arent easter novelties in a video of this theme
@@vampire_bitez that's a good point. Maybe clarifying as a surprise gift would be more fitting
Same here (Italy). It always break my heart when I see rabbits and birds in small cages 24/7. Let them out!!! It's frustrating
That dude at the store should’ve been fired lol
Yuki Japan dame happened to me as well.
I love that you are so passionate and care this much About hamsters and love hamsters and I love that you are such a good owner !!!
Oh yes two robo's togther you might as well ring the bell for the fight to the death and they WILL. Hamsters MUST be sepretated!
Melina Richards I have two female Russian Campbell’s that have been living together for a year and a half
You are such a caring and compassionate person and I’m so glad people like you still care❤️❤️
What's worse is that I among others, contacted him and he got defensive and cocky about it. Very rude dude.
Munchie's Place I saw a post recently where it was selling a hamster and babies and it stated that you could sell the babies for up to $15 each and that you’d make about $300 and all I could think of was most people can’t even give their unwanted babies away and this person is trying to sell them to another person who would see it only has money profit and when they can’t get that they’re just going to get dumped because the person doesn’t really care about them and that is what sucks the small animals that many people love our use and abuse because they cost $15 and they live for 2 to 4 years into that they’re expendable the people and that is so wrong I could go forever on that
I applaud you for filming this and getting the message out there on how awful some hamsters suffer. Shame on those owners
Shame on humanity really. But you're welcome. :)
ThePurpleHamster Same with mine but he’s a boy and he is still alive... I would NEVER dump him. I made some progress on taming him though!
I managed to convince one of my friends to get a bigger geribilaruim.
Congratulations on being my new favourite binge watch series!
I know the feeling. My current hamster is from someone at my mothers work who put 3 djungarian hamsters in a critter trail cage and was angry/confused when they fought. I’m annoyed just thinking about it.
Is it weird that I love this series ?
I LOVE how you care about animals so much! I love your vids 🐢🐞🐠
Thank you for doing what you do I’ve been watching your videos the past couple of days and I’ve learned so much about hamsters and other small animals. I wish I found you sooner your so fun and interesting to watch.
Hu. I started watching your videos just yesterday and I've learnt so much!
That's wonderful to hear. :)
Most disturbing ad I've seen was a hamster being kept in a bowl marketed for beta fish (obviously too small for them too, it was maybe .8 gallons), but the fighting is very upsetting too
I do like your opinions on these ads. Love the video
YES!! my fave series ever!
that poor baby at 16:02.. i had, and still have, a female hammy that was super shy and bit a lot, and it took me a full year to tame her, and she’s still shy at times, but i would never give up on her!!
Here in my place I can only find the bedding like in the one here 5:20 and I am not sure what kind of wood shaving it is. Like in my head when I entered the pet store I’m like why is it all wood shavings?! And there’s scented ones?? I do not want my hamster to have breathing issues
Freya the Cat there’s no pet smart or petco in my country :(
Freya the Cat thanks tho!
You are so amazing! I’m doing what your doing, advocating animal care! As a community we will come together and stop this!❤️
Sry im late i had a school thing but notif squad🤪
Also at first i thought these type of videos were just for views but when you explain it like that in the beginning rlly changes perspective
First. Love you munchie. If you see my comment please reply. Some peoples care is disgusting. Nice that you adress the horrible care.
I have school during the day and I have to go to sleep early but I’m dedicated to my hamster.
Wild
He screamed and once I poked him when I was a dumb 9 y/o trying to get him out of his tube and he bit me *hard* nonetheless I deserved it...
After that I did more research and spent a lot more time with him. Now he’s really tame and very friendly! 😊
He is a year and a half old now!
6:37 I have that cage for my hamster..... and she’s taking care of newborns is that ok? I need help.... also she has 11 soooooo yeaaa.
This was so sad. Please God bless those people who posted to have better knowledge of these poor creatures!
I will be moving to washington in about 3 years so I will definitely adopt from you! Yay!
Oh you are coming here, mind if I ask if you'll be attending school here or something else? Cause three years down the road is a long ways off.
Munchie's Place I am going to finish college in Indiana where I live now then move to Washington! My boyfriends son lives in Washington so we agreed to move after I’m finished with school! (:
Munchie's Place It might be a year sooner I just over estimate
@@alysonpratt9876 awe that's sweet. 🐾 Well I hope you'll like it here in the PNW.
You have such a cool and good personality!!
I can’t stop watching your videos and I always agree with you :)
Love your stitch blanket ❤ hehe
I'm a bit confused (only ever adopted stray cats). What's the difference between shopping and adopting? Is adopting like from a store (petco/petsmart/some place local) or is it adopting if you take in someone else's pet/a stray?
Casket Lee shopping is buying at a store like pet smart or Petco. Adopting is at a animal shelter.
@@MunchiesPlace Oh! That makes sense! Thank you for clearing that up!
seeing the offerup ads and i’m in Sumner WA close to puyallup/algona/ and auburn is weird because the ones from tacoma and etc are so close to me lol
BTW I love your blanket on your bed, Stitch!
Then I will divide the cage in half for two weeks, and then I’ll put them in a neutral area to meet face to face (I will scatter food around the area)
I will appreciate any comments to the subject.
Thank for telling me all this things I have a 100 square cage but I am going to buy a 450 cage when I have money
Oh yeah I've been waiting for a new video ever since the last one came out xD
When I first got rats my mom didn’t know they like to forage, and she’s always yell at me LOOK THERES NO FOOD WHY DONT YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM!! And we picked up one of their boxes and it was soooo heavy full of food we laughed soooo hard😂😂
Can you give us a tour of you Fat-Tailed Gecko's cage, I really want to see how he is doing!
Will do. I did make one over the summer but i hated it so i trashed it. Will make an update hopefully in the future.
@@MunchiesPlace Thanks! I look forward to seeing that video come out.
"8 years old"
This hamster must be immortal...
When I saw that poor robo at 10:23 I felt sad even though he’s technically is a right size enclosure i feel it’s still too small. My robo is in a DIY bin cage which is 596 square inches of floor space
I thought you were going to be sassy but you're really nice! New subscriber here
I can be sassy and some people get it while others don't.
