Yes it’s best to put a tablespoon amount in your hamsters bowl, see how long it take for it to finish the bowl and put a table spoon once it’s empty. Once you know how long it takes your hamster to finish it’s food, you can start sprinkling the food around the cage instead of putting it in the bowl. If your hamster is like mine and he just shoves all the food in his cheeks and takes it home, so it’s hard to tell how long it takes him to finish. I usually don’t sprinkle food in there one or two days a week. I also noticed my hamster was getting a little chunky so I just cut back on some food and he seems to be good again.

I love how she included how often she feeds fruits and vegetables. I have been looking for the longest time to find a UA-camr or hamster-involved influencer that I trust to say how often I should feed my hamster fruits and veggies and this helps me a lot.
Here is my new feeding schedule:
Monday - 2 tablespoons
Tuesday - nothing
Wednesday - Fresh food & herbs
Thursday - 2 tablespoons
Friday - nothing
Saturday - Fresh food and herbs
Sunday - 2 tablespoons
Monday nothing
and repeat... this is for my 6month old Syrian hamster!

@@minyoongi2525 it's not means leaving bowl 🥣 example you give 2 table spoon on Monday you have to give your hamster food when they finish the food you gave on Monday usually hamster finish 2 table in 2 days ........ Hope it's helps you 😀

I usually just put some food in with my hand not measure with a spoon, but my bowls are like cute small ones not ceramic and I wait 2 days before giving them any more food, but they get one treat a day and some foraging leafs 💜💜

I like to scatter feed the pieces my hamster thinks are the yummiest just to give her that extra challenge to get her favorites. Everything else I put in her bowl. I also give her one small papaya treat every other day. She adores her mazuri pellets and makes a huge mess of them, so I keep them in a separate area all together to avoid the copious amounts of crumbs that come from her eating them lol
I feel like I overfeed my hamster but he isn’t fat and his nest always has very little food stored away. He really just eats from his bowl. Its so confusing

I feed my hamster about 3 times a week and I’ll wait till he pretty much finishes his bowl but he often leaves the little pellets in sunburst and I often cave in and feed him earlier 💀💀

I found out a good way to make sure you don't starve your hamster, since it can be hard to tell when they've finished foraging. Keep their lab block in their food bowl and scatter feed their seed mix. They'll eat the seeds first and, once they've eaten all of that, they'll go for the pellets. Once the pellets are gone you can feed them again. Another way I feed my hamster is putting the main food in the food dish, but leaving the forage mix around the cage. Once again, refill once the bowl has been emptied. They're both very reliable ways of making sure your ham gets all the nutrients they need while still providing them enrichment :)

My hamster is very picky with grains but she is a eating machine with veggies and fruits, she gets them everyday from the begging. She loves basil, parsley, carrot, banana, apples, raddish, cherries, almost everything i give her. Also egg and all kind of cheese (of course limited, not too much, not everyday). Very beutiful long haired fluffy ball :) cheers for all hamster lovers

Thank you! I was over feeding my hamster, Giblet, since I thought as long as they have food that they were able to space out their eating, but I noticed she eats it until it’s gone within a few hours and decided to look more into it!

Thank you Victoria you’re a life saver! I had no idea how I should be feeding my hamster because there’s always a huge pile of food in his food chamber when I do the monthly cleaning of his cage. I’ll start to do this from now on.

omg this helped so much when i was young i really wanted a hamster so i remember when my parents got me one and i fed it wayyyy to much and it was so BIG and died in like 6 months, now im way older and im deciding to get a new hamster so this is really helpful😀
I put about 2 tablespoons of food in bowl with a couple of pellets. I wait until bowl is empty or almost empty. Fresh veggies, fruit, mealworms very small amount little of each every 3 days. Sometimes won't touch the pellets. Sometimes will.
I always fed my hamsters every day because I never knew this. But all of my hamsters have loved to take their food out of their bowl and hide it, then eat it over time. So is it still not good to feed them every day, if they arent eating it all in one day?
I recommend not to feed them every day. Initially, I was so worried that they would be hungry during the night so I checked on them in the wee hours. Then, I realised it is not good to overfeed them. As they age, they will slow down in their consumption.

I got my first hamster today and the person at the store told me it was important to make sure the food dish was always completely full, as hamsters will eat some foods more than others. I’m very glad I found your channel and I’m going to try to fix my mistakes as soon as I possibly can!

My hamster eats the big pellets or whatever they are called. They are 18% protein. She leaves the seed mix in her bowl for awhile. My dwarf hamster does the same.

i've been feeding my hamster about one-two tablespoons of seeds/pellets every single day and he eats it at night, i also give him strawberry, apple, cucumber, other stuff, sometimes broccoli, all for snacks. he's a long-haired syrian hamster, he's massive.
I dehydrated veggies (the frozen mixtures) that are safe for hamsters , according to several fonts, like carrot, chickpeas , broccoli, cauliflower, corn and zuchinn plus cucumber. Then they have little bit as snacks from time to time, they love it.
I do not over do it because this veggies may have sugars and I do not want my hamsters to develop diabetes.
I make homemade treat recipes from other hamster youtubers and add in the healthiest parts into it before cooking it usually and it works
One of my biggest pet peeves is when ppl who don’t know much about hamsters fill their food bowl to the top

I have a gerbil (I know gerbils and hamsters are different, but I still like watching hamster care videos because their care is similar), and I feed him a little under half a tablespoon of food in the morning and once everything is gone i refill it with the same amount through the day. Just sharing what works best for me! ❤❤❤ I would totally switch to this method if he wasn't in a routine already!

Hai Victoria! I have a question, is it ok that I give my hybrid dwarf gerberpuffs? Bc im not sure if this is correct but, i heard that dwarfs cant eat things with additive sugars in it. Either way i wanted to check with you to be sure 👍😁 (i also tried searching it up but i didnt get anything)

Thank you so much for making these videos. My very first hamster just passed away from old age a few days ago. But often I would come to your videos for information. As a first time hammie owner I have made mistakes but these videos are awesome to help educate pet owners ❤
I give my dwarf like half a tea spoon a day with a bit of vegetables and once a week maybe a little peace of pasta or what ever he has, he eats everything in a trial mix but I change up what he eats as he does eat everything I do mix full pellets with his food and he's currently 2 1/2 and living happily and healthy
I have 2 Chinese hamsters, i feed them less than 1 teaspoon per day for both. Which is not really a lot tbh. They get 1 treat in the morning (small) and in the evening I give them a tad bit more. I’ve had many but never Chinese and these two love running on the wheel non-stop which is similar to humans in a treadmill, they last much longer than us running! It’s their nature. So i feel comfortable that they’re burning the calories 😅. They are so happy and healthy, one of them gets in my hand and allows me to kiss him every morning! He’s so cute ❤

I want to thank you so much. Your knowledge has helped me give my hamsters a more happy life. I decided to split up my Syrian hamsters. I now have them in there own 20 gallon tank and I spent my own hard worked money on it. they are both very happy now and are SUPER friendly. I also have them those Baby puff things and they LOVE them.

i usually dump out the old food and put in fresh when i’m cleaning the cage, or i’ll refill if it’s extremely low. otherwise, i just leave it because i want to teach her to not be picky.
i have a mix of seeds and things like that mixed with like a hamster version of like a dog food and my hamster being a picky eater would always pick out the seeds so i spent some time picking out the ones my hammy didn't like and gave them as like main food while giving just a few seeds every time
Hamsters eat, on average, only about one to two tablespoons full of food per 24 hours. They avidly put everything else into storage. Syrian hamsters-the larger ones, also called Golden Hamsters-may eat a little more; dwarf hamsters eat a little less. Hamsters eat 1-2 tablespoons of food every 24 hours.
My Russian dwarf used to have a little food bowl on her first days home but she just got in the bowl and kicked ALL the food out to then eat it from the floor. Guess after that I just gave up on trying to feed her from a bowl and began to scatter feed, it works wonders!

This is great - I’m a new hamster owner.
I’ve been researching for months prior - but I’m still learning. :)
You mention if keeping the dish full that (picky) hamsters would just eat the good stuff (their favorites), but what about the healthier alternatives to the mixed seeds/pellets food? I feed my hamsters the Oxbow Garden Select hamster food. All the same pellets, so nothing to be preferred. Then I also give fresh (safe!) fruit and veggies. 😊 Two long-haired Syrians named Blueberry and Broccoli! The sweetest she and he hamsters I've ever owned! 💕
Unfortunately the oxbow pellets just are not good for hamsters :( some have even died from starvation because the pellets contain a high percentage of things like hay which aren’t needed in their diet. Pellets leave them with a really plain variety lacking diet.
