Cant you just connect second hose to the first one using T fitting (under the car)? This way you just need to run one up through this tight spot to the ARB bracket?
Thanks for posting this. I have a 2011 Trail; and being a novice hit a few deep crossings without this mod, before I realized the potential issues. I'll probably still change out the fluid just to be safe as I'm over 110k now. I follow here and on Insta, love everything you guys do.
Thank you for this video. I have the arb knock off kit. I have mine in the engine be like the instructions but some of my hose got some heat from the exhaust pipe in there was about a 1 inch gash/hole near the front passenger area. So I think I’m just going to cut cut off where the damage is not there and just reroute it to what u did in this video
Miguel Sornia I'll assume the hose doesn't fit. But if that was the case he could have just got a coupler and attached the ARB hose to it or possibly even just attached the ARB hose directly onto the factory locker breather coupler.
i know someone asked this already, but I didn't see your response. Why didn't you run the line for the locker to the ARB diff breather also? is there a reason why you did that?
Have you had any issues having the breather mounted where you did as opposed to the typical engine bay install? I think your way is much cleaner than other installs i've seen.
Using a large ziptie that you could purchase from somewhere like ace hardware would be a better option than the hanger. It not only is mor flexible to be used when pulling wiring through a dash for example, it also will not scratch areas of the paint like a hanger will.
Yes and no. Hangers are great for punching through grommets in the firewall. If using a zip tie you would have to cut it. I have seen zero scratches from using the hanger but I'm not looking for them either ha.
+redfernsoljah I just puncture it. The wires I pull through are thicker and seal the grommet. If it's obviously way too much to pull through I will nick it with a blade so it can tear a little.
i just did mine you don't need any wire! just pull the rubber plug and push the hose down after inserting it through the removed plug. get every thing situated then put the plug back in! that part was simple!
The breather pulls air in not push it out. when the axle hits water that sudden shock of cold creates a vacuum inside the axle. I have had zero issues with mounting it in the cab.
I believe Mike is right. As the diff heats up air/fumes will be expelled. As you point out, when it cools air will flow into the differential. You may never notice a smell but it does ‘breathe’ in and out.

Also, I am assuming the mod in this video will also work with a 2013 4Runner with out any issues, I would guess that the thread sizes are the same yeah?
Also, as I understand it as the diff/axle goes into the water it cools down and draws air in, by adding the one way valve on one of the tubes what good does that do moving it up higher? I see that up higher it won't let water in but if you add the same one way valve at the end it won't let air in either when the diff cools shouldn't it also be run into the ARB filter leaving it open to breathe?
I have not changed my diff fluid. I usually do all fluids at 30 or 60 depending on the condition of said fluid. Yes everything should be the same on that MY 4Runner
Yes when the axle goes in water the rapid cool down creates a vacuum and draws in air from the vent. If the vent is under water then you run the risk of drawing in water through the vent. Thats why we run them up and inside the cabin. Some choose to mount in the engine bay but you still run the risk of water. If water is the high inside the cabin then my axle is the least of my worries. ARB also goes a step further and adds a foam filter so you dont suck in any debris.

pardon the ignorance, but couldn't the locker breather also be fitted to the ARB manifold just like you did with the rear diff line?

+Florida TRD yes you would have to cut and reseal your grommet. Even when using a hanger one should cut one.

Yes you can absolutely do that. Check out Wanderlust Overland dif breather video. That is the approach they took.
