I say if possible save up and buy one if you haven't already, I love mine I got it when they launched it's great for drawing and the refresh rate and screen is just beautiful for watching UA-cam and movies, and with the new iPad os coming out soon it's going to have a lot of new features that previously I thought the lack of was the only thing holding back this iPad. Like seriously iOS on this machine is nice but very limiting so as soon as they announced iPad os, it finally looks like this "pro" device can be used as such lol

As someone who has used Wacom tablets and iPads to draw on, the iPad without a doubt is my preferred method. It’s truly the way to go for digital artists

So it's not that hard to imagine an OS that can give you both the iPad experience when you want it, and a Mac OS experience when you want it. Windows 10 does it, but with huge shortcomings because they dovinh to the hybrid approach first before the development community had already built out mobile versions of apps. Apple, on the other hand, is in a much better position to do it right. It's not that big of a leap. the only thing iOS is really missing is a proper file system and mouse input. But for example, look at Adobe Photoshop, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to run a single desktop caliber version of Photoshop on that iPad... though I'm sure Adobe love selling an iPad version of the app and a desktop version of the app for profit. And there's no reason Mac OS shouldn't support touch. But it really is about time Apple merged these OS's into one
@Timelesst That's exactly the point. Optimize it, or allow it to adapt based on the context of the type of input. I have a touchscreen Windows laptop. I use it all the time. Microsoft Office on Windows has a "touch" mode for input that slightly changes the layout and button sizes for touch. It works, and it's pretty smooth. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a dedicated iPad, but that latest hardware is overkill. There's no reason they couldn't make a MacOS version of that hardware. Think about how much closer iOS and MacOS look to each other compared to 5 years ago. For example, iOS now has a dock... how Mac of it. Mac has launchpad... how iOS of it. Most Mac apps today have minimal, large buttons, where the majority of the most common tasks could be done with touch input, without the precision of the mouse. Look at Photos, for example. I don't see why I couldn't use touch to navigate that app on Mac (or, just have a switch to change to a "tablet" mode interface). And then, when you need to do "real" work, connect your keyboard and mouse, and go to town.
This is worth every single penny, will outlast any pc. Since I have it I found so many new usages, it even replace my laptop most of the time. Apps are also a great part of it, as new app bring new possibilities every day. Its just awesome !
I just bought one with my company bonus. I have to admit it has blown me away as my last tablet was a iPad Air 1st gen. Face ID is so quick, interface runs super quick and the bigger screen handles Video very well with what I have watched. I would defo recommend if you are jumping from the standard iPad. I’m no artist but will wait for reviews on drawing apps before looking at the pencil - which is a rip off in my UK opinion!

Hard pass for me. Personally am an Apple fan, use an iPhone X, Apple Watch series 3 and have AirPods. But the problem with this is IOS. Hardware is Super good but with IOS almost nothing can be done
I've got to say, I've used the iPad Pro 2017 as my primary device for school for ages now and it's worked great, IOS is fast and efficient, the pencil makes for easy note taking and it really means that I can leave my books at home. But I always have to go back to the laptop. No matter how hard I try, I can't use it as an independent device. It doesn't have a full office suite, I can't plug external devices like a projector in so that I can present my assignments and I can't have more than three windows open on the screen at any one time (4 if I'm using picture in picture). But it has been great and I think that it has really enriched my experience and relationship with educational technology, but I just couldn't do it without my school laptop. Lew, if you're reading this, use the darn iPad, it's great! Just don't use it as a laptop, because it isn't one.

The software kills the design. The surface can run actual programs and iPad is still stuck to iOS apps... apps. All that power and it can still only run baby versions of programs. It’s not a computer at all, it’s still just the middle ground of phone to laptop but more on the phone side
If it's so powerful then why not run OSX? Because it's not that powerful. IOS can't even handle certain websites without crashing. It's a glorified surface with a premium laptop price tag. Only a brainless sheep would buy this impractical garbage.
the whole windows tablet concept is awful. i had one and it was the most frustrating thing i’ve ever used, from the keyboard not coming up when in tablet mode to not being able to get any normal apps to having a weak underpowered processor to having an appstore that has less apps then the old blackberry store to the icons on the screen not being big enough to properly interact with and to top it all off worse battery life then a laptop from 6 years ago. i had a dell venue 10 and i quickly sold it and bought an ipad and it’s soooo much better.
Well then it’s not too expensive. if there was enough value in that product to make you say it was worth it, then you got your money’s worth out of it and can’t complain about price.
Yeah, or I'd be interested in gimp. The only reason I'd buy a keyboard for a tablet is for programming, so I'd love some kind of IDE/shell environment (do it virtual, like chrome os). Without that and some other desktop applications, this won't be able to replace a laptop completely. And I'm sorry, but for most of us this isn't an "and" device. At 600 bucks or more, this is an "or" device. I could go pickup a nook or fire tablet for under 200 and it'd do about 3/4ths of what I'd do on an iPad.
You can get photoshop, adobe and final cut on ipad already. Microsoft suite also, and probably some other stuff, but that's what I personally got on my 2017 ipad pro.
Love my iPad 12.9, although the smaller version is just as good! For me I’m a pilot so I needed an iPad and wanted to see more of my maps, etc. love it but for general use the smaller one is just as good!

Bringing a mobile phone back to their time in your pocket practically hidden on you would blow their minds as it is way more powerful than their "super" computer. @@silvermatti7346 dream big, dude. they keep merging Mac OS and iOS features closer and closer together for the last few years... So it's not that hard to imagine an OS that can give you both the iPad experience when you want it, and a Mac OS experience when you want it. Windows 10 does it, but with huge shortcomings because they dovinh to the hybrid approach first before the development community had already built out mobile versions of apps. Apple, on the other hand, is in a much better position to do it right. It's not that big of a leap. the only thing iOS is really missing is a proper file system and mouse input. But for example, look at Adobe Photoshop, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to run a single desktop caliber version of Photoshop on that iPad... though I'm sure Adobe love selling an iPad version of the app and a desktop version of the app for profit. And there's no reason Mac OS shouldn't support touch. But it really is about time Apple merged these OS's into one
@Timelesst That's exactly the point. Optimize it, or allow it to adapt based on the context of the type of input. I have a touchscreen Windows laptop. I use it all the time. Microsoft Office on Windows has a "touch" mode for input that slightly changes the layout and button sizes for touch. It works, and it's pretty smooth.
I'm not saying there shouldn't be a dedicated iPad, but that latest hardware is overkill. There's no reason they couldn't make a MacOS version of that hardware. Think about how much closer iOS and MacOS look to each other compared to 5 years ago. For example, iOS now has a dock... how Mac of it. Mac has launchpad... how iOS of it. Most Mac apps today have minimal, large buttons, where the majority of the most common tasks could be done with touch input, without the precision of the mouse. Look at Photos, for example. I don't see why I couldn't use touch to navigate that app on Mac (or, just have a switch to change to a "tablet" mode interface). And then, when you need to do "real" work, connect your keyboard and mouse, and go to town.
This is worth every single penny, will outlast any pc. Since I have it I found so many new usages, it even replace my laptop most of the time. Apps are also a great part of it, as new app bring new possibilities every day. Its just awesome !
I just bought one with my company bonus. I have to admit it has blown me away as my last tablet was a iPad Air 1st gen. Face ID is so quick, interface runs super quick and the bigger screen handles Video very well with what I have watched. I would defo recommend if you are jumping from the standard iPad. I’m no artist but will wait for reviews on drawing apps before looking at the pencil - which is a rip off in my UK opinion!

Hard pass for me. Personally am an Apple fan, use an iPhone X, Apple Watch series 3 and have AirPods. But the problem with this is IOS. Hardware is Super good but with IOS almost nothing can be done

I have the 11 inch and it’s amazing I have no complains about it honestly
I've got to say, I've used the iPad Pro 2017 as my primary device for school for ages now and it's worked great, IOS is fast and efficient, the pencil makes for easy note taking and it really means that I can leave my books at home. But I always have to go back to the laptop. No matter how hard I try, I can't use it as an independent device. It doesn't have a full office suite, I can't plug external devices like a projector in so that I can present my assignments and I can't have more than three windows open on the screen at any one time (4 if I'm using picture in picture). But it has been great and I think that it has really enriched my experience and relationship with educational technology, but I just couldn't do it without my school laptop. Lew, if you're reading this, use the darn iPad, it's great! Just don't use it as a laptop, because it isn't one.
You can connect a screen or a projector, you do need a dongle for it though which is bad enough

The software kills the design. The surface can run actual programs and iPad is still stuck to iOS apps... apps. All that power and it can still only run baby versions of programs. It’s not a computer at all, it’s still just the middle ground of phone to laptop but more on the phone side
If it's so powerful then why not run OSX? Because it's not that powerful. IOS can't even handle certain websites without crashing. It's a glorified surface with a premium laptop price tag. Only a brainless sheep would buy this impractical garbage.
the whole windows tablet concept is awful. i had one and it was the most frustrating thing i’ve ever used, from the keyboard not coming up when in tablet mode to not being able to get any normal apps to having a weak underpowered processor to having an appstore that has less apps then the old blackberry store to the icons on the screen not being big enough to properly interact with and to top it all off worse battery life then a laptop from 6 years ago. i had a dell venue 10 and i quickly sold it and bought an ipad and it’s soooo much better.

Yeah, or I'd be interested in gimp. The only reason I'd buy a keyboard for a tablet is for programming, so I'd love some kind of IDE/shell environment (do it virtual, like chrome os). Without that and some other desktop applications, this won't be able to replace a laptop completely. And I'm sorry, but for most of us this isn't an "and" device. At 600 bucks or more, this is an "or" device. I could go pickup a nook or fire tablet for under 200 and it'd do about 3/4ths of what I'd do on an iPad.
