    Whilst I won't argue the result the C64 does use some of the arcade tunes, just not the one you were referencing... and the title music is one of the best SIDs on the system.

      Hi matey, its great composed music but just wanted that theme matey as lets be honest... The SID chip is more than capable 😉 Remember the OCEAN loading music on the C64? That was another C64 classic 😎

    The 'UP' to jump control was due to early joysticks only having one distinct fire button. It was only later on, games supported more than one button and took advantage of it.

    • @OGDuffy
      @OGDuffy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi matey yep I remember that but also recall some games using keyboard controls alongside the joystick, I recall Kung Fu Master on C64 using space bar alongside the joystick to toggle punches and kicks as an example. I am sure there are others, but as you say limited buttons then so can see why it was done that way.

    Such a great game. Agree with all of this except ST over Amiga. I played both BITD and preferred Amiga - although, both paled in comparison to the mega drive….or even the SMS. Not using the arcade music was a huge mistake.
    The SNES version is absolutely incredible. I know it’s not really comparable, but I remember seeing (and hearing) it for the 1st time and being completely blown away.
    Keeping with the Capcom theme, how about UN Squadron compared. (Another of my SNES favourites)

      Hi matey as you saw I have the SNES version to play and looking forward to giving it a visit 😎 To be fair not a lot between the ST and Amiga but I like to give a verdict as seen a few comparison videos showing the different systems but no verdicts.

    I would agree with your opinion on all of those systems. I think if a port of an arcade game has music it should have the original music and as for the ones that didn't that was no excuse as the Amiga had decent sound chips that got better with the 600 and 1200.
    The Master System and Megadrive were the closest to the arcade port and were quality conversions though I don't think the nes got a port of ghouls n ghosts because of ghosts n goblins as they were the same game with slightly different titles.

    • @OGDuffy
      @OGDuffy  2 роки тому

      Hi Danny the music from the arcade original is so iconic so such a shame the home computers chose to make their own tunes. I think they could have handled it especially the 16 Bits. But the consoles more than made up for it 😎

    My word the arcade and the C64 were tough games but really good. In fact Zzap! gave both the C64 and Amiga versions a Gold medal. Sorry but the SNES version still has to be mentioned but I know why this is separate, as this is a fantastic game and one I could complete on the hardest setting. Hey man, did you forget you can fire both up and down in Ghouls n' Ghosts? It's cool man, I just didn't see you flinging lances and disks upwards at the vultures. Oh and one tiny correction (again no big deal) Ghouls n' Ghosts came out on the Super Grafx not the TG-16. At any rate, for me, the absolute best port is the Sega Genesis. That game was my 1989 and one of the sole reasons I went for the Genesis in 1989 instead of a TG-16.
    I was really on the fence and driving my parents crazy. One day it was "I want the Genesis" while the next was "Only the TG-16 for me!" Then one of my good friends got his Genesis early (for good grades or something) and he only had to show me two games...Altered Beast and Ghouls n' Ghosts. From that point on it was all Genesis. One last thing, I know many consider the Super Grafx better but not me. I own them both in their original form and while the Super Grafx port is incredible there are some differences that I don't care for...like sound effects. It's a shame Sega chose to limit the space on the cart because with the 3 megs the Super Grafx port had Sega would have been so arcade close it would have been scary. I honestly believe the Genesis could with enough space on cart do a full arcade conversion of the coin-op cab no doubt about it.

    I see the bottle jamiesons there Duffy, from one hammer to another can I recommend ginger ale & jamiesons in the autumn and jamiesons with cranberry for the Christmas period (trust me) don’t know it until you try it 😅
    Ghouls and ghosts ghosts & goblins all too hard for me on any system or arcade cab 😂
    Iv got huge respect for the series but damn nope too tough for me. 😂
    It’s a rythem and pattern your doing better then I would , there’s too much going on 😅 every jama cab I play it on has a difference in difficulty settings compared to the original board on the original cab.
    Wow to be fair the c64 visuals are better than I was expecting but wow the music so off, they do that sometimes on the 8bits , surely imitating the music is the easy part of an arcade port but what do we know.
    The speccy sound does sound better then c64 even with no music. It actually looks really nice but not sure how long I can stare at that black background 😅
    Amstrad again not bad to be fair! Had nothing on the speccy version and yes your right about the screen change delay that’s kind of annoying.
    Atari ST looks lovely but the music doe sent suit yet I still like it 😅
    Mate I really like this ST version I had no idea it was a 16 bit console or the amiga 😮
    Amiga takes it from those two I think and not sure if speccy or c64 for the battle of the 8bits 🤔
    Really enjoying this video duffy 🔥💪🏻🤩🕹

    The Sega master system version seems to get a bad rep amoung fans of the game. But as a master system owner in my youth I thought it was very good and is to date the only version iv completed. Also a big up to its 3d spiritual successor of maximo. Another one on my "completed it mate" list. The final boss on that one was disappointingly easy compared to the rest of the game. Never played it's follow up though. Where the megadrive shined for me was with its mid to late 80s arcade conversions

    The c64 version very blocky but played OK. Levels similar to arcade version
    Speccy and amstrad seem to have completely altered the level design
    The amiga version did have alot of extra background graphics on level 1 and 2 over the atari port. Almost as if software creations ran out of time to improve all the levels.
    Why they didn't include the 2 button control that would of made it alot better
    As u say the new tune by Tim follin was good but why not use the iconic arcade tune
    Megadrive version was superb and made me buy one
    Master system great conversion with great graphics and sound

    • @OGDuffy
      @OGDuffy  2 роки тому

      The Megadrive version was really well done, if I recall was quite an early release for the MD so would have helped shift a few consoles im sure.
      Pushing up to jump was a major balls up but happened on all the home computer versions of this for some reason. If only they tweaked the controls would have made it so much better.

    Classic 👍, C64 version to me is just average, Speccy looks smooth and agree gets map, if they made the Speccy 128k version I feel they would've knocked it out of the park, never played the ST version does look better then the Amiga and to me Amiga version is just like it's little brother disappointing, for sure the MegaDrive/Genesis version was the best, shame as u say the C64 could've done better with that Sid Chip, but still a classic game just disappointed with the micro computer versions

    • @OGDuffy
      @OGDuffy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Glenn, yes matey a real shame over the tune and the SID chip could have handled it im sure.
      The console versions I looked at, more than made up for it though 😃
      A 128k with a tune on the Speccy would have been great and your not the first to say that so something they could have explored.

  • @chillivodka01
    @chillivodka01 2 роки тому +1

    I disagree here with the C64 coming second because of the music and then the Speccy with no music. For me the c64 version was a lot more playable out of the 8bits and the music throughout is superb from Tim Follin. Similarly the Atari ST version came first but has the same tune as the C64 so the music debate doesn't stack up 🤔. The ST and Amiga versions are very similar so it's a tough one. The Megadrive version is pretty spot on and in definitely one of the best versions. Still haven't beat the arcade version in all these years mind.

      @OGDuffy  2 роки тому

      Hi matey, always good to hear others opinions and views 😎 I personally felt the Speccy version played better for me, as for the C64 music it is still really well done on the C64 but dont know why they didnt try to do the original arcade theme as know the SID chip was more than capable 😉
