The C=64 was well assisted by having, if not the best one of the best commodore programers of all time, who was given the task of the conversion- Chris Buttler did some awesome work. Interesting that they changed the music entirely, dont know of any other c=64 conversion that replaced the music instead of replicating.
Looks great on the Spectrum - Elite did an awesome job of the conversion (Ghouls was later converted by US Gold and doesn't look as good as this). C64 is also awesome which is the one I'm familiar with. Elite wanted it as a single load so the first 4 levels of the arcade were converted and the last 3 incorporated in using the caves as the final level.
Great, I love these comparisons, especially when it comes to such glorious 80's computers. The fluidity of speccy is undoubted in many titles (the Z80 still ran at ~4MHz compared to the ~1MHz of the 6510 Commodore), but the graphics and above all sound qualities of the C64 remain unbeatable. I am above all a fan of the legendary SID that I implemented in stereo version on my working C64, to make the most of the possibilities offered by this superb chip.
The SID chip was a game maker back in the day and truly superb game music from the C64 in so many games ! Thanks for the comment, you clearly know your stuff ! Keep your eyes peeled for a retro game quiz ill be posting !!! 😉
Great video really enjoyed watching this I was interested to hear your verdict slightly different to mine but you came across with good points and well presented I chose the spectrum version as my verdict but it is indeed a tough call just thought the spectrum played a little bit better and was slightly easier and anything that made easy is a thumbs up for me keep up the great content looking forward to some more great videos 😉😁
I´m wondering: wouldn´t be fairer to compare c64 and amstrad versions rather than ZX? Because the breadbin will quite often win because of the technical limitations of the spectrum. The CPC might be a better match.
Hi Yannick, thanks for the suggestion, if you look at some of my recent videos I have also included Amstrad. With the Speccy VS C64 you would be surprised as the Speccy holds its own in a few games 😉 Thanks for commenting and watching, great to have you on board Sir 😎
You mean the nearly 4x faster CPU on the spectrum Vs the c64 and 41kb usable ram Vs 37kb usable ram on the c64 and the 5x faster baud rate to and from tape drive? And that on release the spectrum was half the price of the c64? Are those the "limitations" you're referring too? I thought not. Best to keep quiet lest your ignorance of a subject makes you out to be a complete fool.
Hi matey that’s one of my earlier videos try and look at more systems in the newer VS videos 😉 Heard good things about the Amstrad version… worth checking out ?
@@OGDuffy ah, sorry didn't see how old the video was, enjoyed it all the same, and yes you should definitely check out the Amstrad version, It doesn't have smooth scrolling though, but still a great conversion, I played it a lot on my CPC 6128 back in the day. Keep the videos comming, I love to see your comparison videos :-)
Tim.follin sound track just stunning..plays great but bloody hard The updated version had extra levels added back in.i could only manage up to level 3 without cheating Deff c64 version the best of the 8 bit
C64 generally does really well in these VS videos, but on occasion the Speccy has surprised us matey 😉 Was a great time to be alive John... The golden age matey 😎

Hi matey, yes strange about the music as the SD chip could more than hold its own,
a great game though 😎
Only recently found your channel and because I’m about same age and had C64 I’ve found your videos really interesting.
Cheers matey glad your enjoying the content…. The C64 and Spectrum days really were the golden age of gaming matey 😉🍺

I always thought the c64 graphics were quite garish and with misshapen pixels...

Thanks for the support buddy, much appreciated. More videos to come 😊
Agreed, this game is very, very difficult, all versions.
Hi Mark, it certainly was a toughie matey !

You should definitely have had the Amstrad version in this comparison.

C64 sound chip created some amazing game music back in the day !
I had it in amstrad.. 1st stage was a masterpiece for the time. 2nd was unplayable at all. Difficult as hell..

Spectrum is unique!
Was a great little machine 😎
Still got the SNES version, might have to dust off the SNES to have a go.
SNES version was Super Ghouls N Ghosts if i recall? But an amazing game so dust it off and enjoy !!!!
@@OGDuffy ah! that's right but rock hard
@@spacestacey1 Yes matey all these Ghost N Goblin titles are difficult but strangely we kept coming back for more punishment !!!! 😎
If our guy says brilliant one more time, mate..
I'll say Excellent next time 😃 Thanks for commenting matey 😎
Had the C64, Spectrum 128 & CPC464 and I can be honest by saying the games on the Speccy compared to the others were crap
C64 generally does really well in these VS videos, but on occasion the Speccy has surprised us matey 😉 Was a great time to be alive John... The golden age matey 😎
SNES version is better yet
SNES was an awesome machine will be doing some Snes VS Megadrive videos in the future 😀
@Spectrum User Remember playing that SNES game and the megadrive had Ghouls N Ghosts too if I remember ?
