Good tutorial,You are number one, I'm just getting closer to ableton it's a nice software, I wanted to make a mixtape compilation with 90's dance, how can I synchronize the bpm of the 2 tracks so that they have the same bpm without changing the master tempo and the key A thousand thanks
If you watch my first tutorial on how to make a mix in ableton- I cover this off. Thank you for watching
@@djkarlthomas thanks bro
Hi Karl, thanks for your Videos mate they helped me a lot, it’s great to people like you sharing their knowledge, question : When i have wrapped the track and then change the BPM they don’t mix smoothly and I need do a total cut. How can I fix this ? Thanks
Glad you find the videos useful. I’m not sure what you mean as once everything is warped correctly everything should mix perfectly. I can’t say I have had this issue
Awesome tutorials man, you really explain it well and make it easier to learn by dumbing it down for us and showing specifics for the what ifs…Very helpful and useful video…🫡👏🤙
I'm using Ableton Live 11 Intro and I can't find any of the Tempo options on my Master track (shown at 03:01). My Master track has a drop down menu but only shows options for Audio Effects that I've dropped onto the Master track. The option for 'Mixer' or 'Song Tempo' or the BPM ranges aren't shown. Any ideas on what I might be missing or getting wrong would be much appreciated!
Hi thanks for watching. For this video I have used the full version of Ableton 10 so it might be a feature not included in the intro version. I haven’t used 11 so not sure what it may be apart from this.
Great video!! What if I want to create a mix where I need to keep original tempo of each track? Do I need to adjust master tempo for each track accordingly or is there a way to disable master tempo altogether? Thank you
I have a video that might help you with this. ua-cam.com/video/VRwixVBdYuc/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot. I was wondering how to mix two tracks of different bpm.
Glad it was helpful!!
Great video. I notice when you use complex mode that the song clips. What is the best solution around this when warping full tracks. Is adding a limiter on the channel good enough? or do you have any other solutions? Thanks.
I've always reduced the volume of the individual channels to stop the tracks from clipping and then stuck a limiter on the master which has worked perfectly for me :).
@@djkarlthomas Thanks that's what I've been doing so good to know I was doing it right. Keep up the good work mate))
hi karl, how do you make sure the volume of all tracks in your mix are equal? i want to make a mix with some older tracks who have a different volume,. and how do you master the final mix in ableton?
I think I talk about that in this video

Hi there, thanks a lot for the video! just wonder if I want to keep the BPM of the whole mix constant, but have tracks that are different BPM, do I have to warp them one by one before working on the mix? thanks!
No you don't have to do this- the ableton analysis is pretty good with electronic music so it can detect the BPM and it will adjust accordingly. Warping is useful for quantising tracks which don't stick to a set BPM throughout for example those that were recorded live
Seems like a good tip. It would be nice if you lets us hear the result!
Thank you for the feedback!
Does this apply to making 70s and 80s Disco high energy mix? The versions I want to use are not quantized, they are the original versions. This works with new music but, what about making a DJ mix with classic versions? How do I beat match those versions? I find it so very difficult as the BPM changes throughout the songs. I can use a remix version that are quantized but, it's not the same as the original versions.
You’ll need to quantise them and use the warp markers a lot more when you analyze your tracks
If I have my mix going from 126 to 128 (then already up to 128) When I bring in a track that’s 129, what do I do to beat match/quantize it to 128? (The track shows 128.89 when I know it’s 129 as well)
All tracks regardless of the tempo will play at the speed set in the top left hand corner- hence why this tutorial to adjust the tempo exists so you would need to follow the steps here if you want the tracks to play at the tempo they were recorded at.
2:20 is the bpm displayed at the bottom always accurate? & thanks so much for this vid, you’re a life safer 🙏
I haven’t ever had any issues with it. Thanks for watching
How you can export that mix?
You just go to file and then export the mix
Thank you so much, but I didn't find how to fade the lows or highs, not only to kill them totally?
You need to adjust the setting on automation of the EQ rather than using the kill function. There should be a drop down list and you can select what function you want the EQ to play
@@djkarlthomas thanks. Will try it. 🙂
Nice one mate! Hopefully I explained it okay!
@@djkarlthomas hay mate, I didn't solve it.. In drop many there's only LowOn, MidOn, HiOn or so.. There is nothing automation like or so.. Am I searching in wrong place?
If you switch them on you should then be able to adjust them using the automation line on the track itself
Why doesn't my "Master" have that? I have the standard version of ableton.
What version of Ableton are you using...it might be slightly different depending on the version but it should be there somewhere. I am on Live 10 and I use the standard version of the software
Pushing a does nothing for me
What version of Ableton are you using?
@@djkarlthomas 11 live
@@Kenevoslcomp777 I use Ableton 10 live in these videos so it could be that the shortcut for automation is different, I would see if you can figure out how to activate it specifically for Ableton 11.
Make sure you turn off the midi function which enables you to play instruments via your keyboard. It’s the piano icon on the top right of your screen.
