    Thanks for watching everyone! Just moving my question from the video down into the comments. What would you like to see from the Black Bay collection in the future? To me, some new Black Bay 58 colorways would get me completely on the bandwagon.

    • @ericdoubleu
      @ericdoubleu 4 роки тому +6

      Agree on the colorways, maybe a 58 GMT. A 39-40 mm Pelagos would be sick as well.

      Teddy Baldassarre Hey man, I’m a big fan of your content! I know this is far from the subject, but I’ll be getting my first luxury watch in the next few months. If you had to choose between this Tudor, the Omega Speedmaster Professional, or a Rolex Date Just..... which would you choose for a first watch?

    • @TeddyBaldassarre
      @TeddyBaldassarre  4 роки тому +1

      I think there are so many variables that need to be considered before I can give an honest recommendation. That said if you’re looking for an everyday watch I don’t think the DJ can be beat really plus the variety is amazing. Sure it’s everywhere but there is reasoning behind it, it’s because it is great. That said, if you tend to dress more casually than speedy and Tudor should be strongly considered

      I have the blue version of the watch depicted. I adore this watch. Very legible and the accuracy is within even superlative standards. Will more than likely never sell it. In reference to Tudor bringing out the 58 in blue or red? I don’t think so as it would cannibalise sales of their 41mm range.

    This watch is very special to me. This was my first luxury watch. I wore it for the birth of my baby girl. It matches my rose gold wedding band and it just so happens my mother’s name is Rose. I feel this watch and I were destined for each other...and someday destined to be my daughters.

    I just got a BBB with the in house movement. I absolutely love it. I chose it over a Seamaster 300M. It seems that the 300M has become the favorite watch for Rolex haters and Omega fan boys. Now everyone has one. The Tudor is less common and it looks more classic and elegant imho. Best watch in the 2K-3.5K range. Thanks for the video.

      I cannot see them going for a range of BB58's because they may interfere with Explorer 2, sub and OP ranges from Rolex.
      I would sell like hot cakes but it would have an impact on other Rolex watches. They need to be careful that they do not create a monster that could eat up Rolex.

    As a Rolex GMT owner, my BB 79220N adds some fun that Rolex doesn't express. I went with the black bezel and the gilt dial with rose hour markers really adds warmth and character. Doesn't hurt that this particular model Tudor ran for 6 months production before their in house movement. Classic? Rare? Time will tell.

  • @edwardaviles7828
    @edwardaviles7828 4 роки тому +6

    I've had the GMT for about two months now and absolutely love it. But would love even more if they came out with a 41mm BB 58. If they do that I will own a second Tudor. Likewise, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would live a 39mm BB GMT.

    You asked about other watches that could be modern-day classics... Really hard to say. Not that many brands have keystone models like this, outside of Rolex and Tudor it's difficult to say if any brand is worth "a classic" model designation, since so many unimpactful watches are made...
    I think the Longines Legend Diver has been around for long enough, and has been prominent enough, to fit the bill. And it, in some ways, preceded the "retro diver" wave by a good two years. Oris 65, the first black-dialled, 40mm version, will be remembered fondly for years, for sure (since it brought Oris a much much wider exposure and revived their image significantly).
    On the cheaper end, the Bulova Moonwatch (sorry, "lunar pilot") might stick around in peoples' memory, as one of the few occasions to remember Bulova as a brand, and to really step on Omega's toes on the whole "moonwatch" thing. Speaking of which...
    Omega speedy is, for sure, a classic / iconic watch. Not so sure about it being "modern" though.

At first I was looking for a new Rolex Sub No Date but once I saw this BB Heritage in Red with the vintage look and leather strap I fell in love.. its a true everyday watch from classy to utility and everything in between.. comments from the Rolex guys are the reason I turned them away.. same with Mercedes, Gucci and fake lips.. just because one has money doesn’t mean you should be douchy and for that Ill stick with Tudor 🌹 Thanks Teddy for the solid reviews, youre the reason be rolling a new BB GMT in the near future👏🏼

    A good perspective and whilst this is the first black bay we can also say that the thicker black bay with the in house mechanism is also ‘a first’. The first Black bay with an in house mechanism. The 58 satisfies slimmer hands and we can say that it could be a choice for some however in my personal opinion only, the BB post 2016 is a man’s watch especially the model with burgundy bezel adding a tone of vintage. Price surprisingly is higher compared to the newer 58

    Modern classics... I'm mainly listing affordable since those are the brands I know decently well...
    Seiko SKX obviously... first (and last) of the 7S movement watches. For a while through the late 70s and 80s all their mechanicals used recycled tech from previous decades. The 7S was the first new (sort of) mechanical movement design for years, and has formed the basis for their whole base to mid-range catalog going forward. I say sort of because it was derived from an existing design (Daini 7000 series) but with improved jeweling and some parts becoming plastic for cost cutting. This led to a huge wave of new affordable models that flooded the market and helped introduce a whole new generation to mechanical watches.
    Gotta also mention the Timex Waterbury. I think this was their first attempt in recent history at marketing beyond rotating displays on top of jewelry counters. It's been a slow climb for them, but this has led to more recent work with Todd Snyder, and the new vintage-inspired models like the Marlins and the Q. The Waterbury kinda started all that.
    Casio is still making square G-Shocks. I think the DW5600E specifically has been in production as long as the SKX has.
    And of course the Bambino is one of those models that has become synonymous with its brand.
    There's been a lot of brand revival going on lately. However, I think it's less to do with great new models, and more to do with this kind of post-modern revival of interest in watches, particularly vintage watches, as a kind of reaction to Apple's attempt to replace the watch as an accessory. While some of that is good, I think brands need to be careful not to just recycle their history as a substitute for innovation. I think the Tudor's Black Bay walks that line pretty well, taking a classic design and adding some modern twists. Some others not so much.

    Whether they'll really be collectable I don't know but I do agree that this watch and the BB58 will be milestones. Perhaps to some extent the BB GMT as well, given that it's a more traditional take on a Pepsi GMT. With Rolex having moved on to the putting GMTs on the Jubilee bracelets and with ceramic bezels, perhaps the BB GMT will be the last of that kind with real tool watch appeal.

    Great video thanks. Can't argue with the significance of the Tudor BB as part of the contemporary Tudor line up, but the most important Tudor watch?...what about the North Flag. The North Flag was the first Tudor with an in house caliber and display case back to boot, I'd say that's a pretty big deal. As far as future Tudor models I'd rather see a Tudor Pelagos GMT than any more BBs. Thanks again.

    • @TeddyBaldassarre
      @TeddyBaldassarre  4 роки тому +2

      The north flag is a cool watch and certainly has a few firsts (I did a full review of it as well). I still think the black bay just provides much more for Tudor and consumers. It appeals to their rich history in dive watches that saw military action while packaging it in a contemporary package that is both relatively attainable for the world of luxury watches while carving out a new unique brand identity that is recognizable. Not saying the north flag is not recognizable but I would say it’s more of an enthusiast pick and won’t impact the bottom line as much for the brand.

      Thank you I wasn’t aware it was your first, I’m so excited I found this cheap time x at my school and I tried it on for like three days and fell in love with the idea of a watch so I turned it in to the school and now I’m getting a real watch that’s more music style, I’m scared to watch any other channel besides you😏

    Thank you Teddy for another great vid. I bought the 79220R in 2012. And I still like it. This watch still gets a lot wrist time as one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to Basel World 2020 to see what new model of the BB will be released.

    Anyone considering this, should also consider the 39mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual. For a couple thousand dollars more(and those that need to save, be a little patient), you won't regret it.
    Regardless of ETA or in-house , take your Tudor to an authorized service centre.
    BTW I have the in-house movement in Burgundy. If you're spending more than $3.5k on a piece, you definitely don't want an ETA

  • @winduncan9818

    IMO the one that will be the most collectable is the black bezel. Has the rose, happy face and the thinner case W ETA but the shortest production run and most desirable color combination IMO. While I didn't buy mine as an investment I do think it's the most collectable of the ETA BB's. For a first or entry level luxury watch I don't thing you can go wrong with a used (best condition) BB or Speedmaster Professional. But I don't think the new in house BB's will be as collectable as the ETA BB's.

    I soo want to like Tudor... but I’ve tried 2 on so far (BB58 and GMT) and I didn’t feel any emotions towards the watch. BB58 too small for me. Nothing beats a Rolex Sub in my opinion.

      Can’t fault your judgement for loving the submariner. If any watch is worthy of the classification of icon it’s the sub

    I know I'm a bit late with my comment, but I just got myself a BB58 on the leather strap. Gorgeous watch, and perhaps a future classic, who knows. I never got why people poopoo an ETA based watch like a Junghans but revere the Tudors. Anyway, my guess for another future classic is the GS Snowflake... Greetings from Belgium

    The Harrods version will be the most investible modern day Tudor. Actually it already is, as it's the only one that is above list price.Not even the Pepsi GMT or 58 are fetching above retail price.

    I’m all about the 79230R with the in-house movement. It will probably be my first higher tier watch but I want to wait for next Basel in case they do a BB58 with a burgundy bezel LOL.

    I love your videos. Love the Tudor and Rolex brands. In the past l've owned 2 Rolex submariner dates and 2 Tudor snowflake submariners. However l must confess I've never been sold on the black bay. When l first saw it l actually thought it was a frankenwatch. The snowflake hands just don't go with the round indeces. Also the fine 'coin edge's type crown doesn't look as distinguished as the more deeply grooved Rolex older Tudor crowns. I think they should issue a model with square markers to match the snowflake hands.

    I've got a suggestion. Make videos about history of watch brands. Why not start with Longines?

      Have a plan to do it! I like being able to have a few models handy to do it right. Going to try it with a couple brands and then make it a series. Have sampled with seiko and it was well received

    One of the most beautiful Tudors ever released. The ETA version is a future classic, the in-house models including the 58 with the Kenissi movement, which is not serviced but rather swapped for a replacement movement won’t be nearly as collectible.

    After they come out with new colorways for the 58 (which I'm assuming is inevitable in the bear future) Eventually I'd like to see just a few very conservative updates to the design. 1: Changing the text to two lines or return to the rounded text of the ETA versions to make it look a little a little less stark and a little morr romantic. 2: Refine the bracelet. Maybe give it a pelagos clasp function or something equally tasty, lose the faux rivets and taper the edges where they were down a bit. I don't necessarily DISlike the bracelet, but it feels like it could be a lot better. You could argue "What more do you want at that price?" But Omega offers very thoughtfully designed and executed bracelets for similarly priced models (so does Tudor for that matter, in the Pelagos) whereas the Black Bay's feel to me... just good enough.

    2:09 - How about the Tudor Black Bay Harrods special edition 79230G? Less than 4000 ever made, and heard they are stopping production quite soon. Also, the Bucherer edition is pretty rare as well.

    Surprised no one has said anything about the size. Anyone think it's a touch too big? I have this exact model and it seems to wear comfortably, but it is chunky with a thick bracelet, too. Thoughts? Because I'm on the fence if I should sell it or not? 6.5 inch wrist here.

    I just noticed on this model the bracelet doesn't have those studs on the sides, I don't like the look of those superficial studs. I also think the standard BB has no need for the manufacturer movement, all it adds is extra power life

    I wanted to compare the 58 to the Pelagos but the stores don’t have the 58 . You have to give a deposit and wait months.
