I did it exactly to his video my tire pressures in the back are 10 psi The front 14 psi If that’s true take a measuring tape i measure from the garage concrete up. Along mower, blades deck where it supposed to be on 3 it’s 2 1/4 inches. ?What’s up with that measurement. Should be at 3 inches?

I didn’t know anything about my new (used) JD lawnmower before I started watching your video, and today I greased all the fittings, dropped the deck, pulled the old belt (ordered a new one), and sharpened the blades. Tomorrow I will redo the bearings so they can get grease. I think it’s lots of fun. Thanks, L100 Owner :))

Thanks for this video. Yesterday's mowing produced the smoothest cut I've gotten this year. Someone commented about calibrating the blade height with weight in the seat to simulate the operator's weight, 200 pounds in my case. A stack of fertilizer bags, dog food bags worked great for this. This trick made about 1/4 difference in the actual blade height.
I wanted to shoot for 3.5 inch actual grass height. For leveling and calibration purposes, calibrating with blocks 3.0 inches tall and calibrating with the control lever on the 3.25 inch setting, the desired grass height was achieved This includes allowing for my 200 pound mass in the driver seat. When mowing, the control lever is set for 3.5 inches.
When leveling the mower deck, jostling the mower deck up and down a few times while performing the height adjustment gave best results. Only one calibration block is needed for this. It is important to check the deck height back and forth between the two sides 2-3 times. Once the side adjustments are satisfactory. The front adjustment can be done using the same calibration block, eyeballing the bottom rim of the deck to be about 1/4 inch below the top surface of the cal block.
Now I have a method for quickly checking deck height and level quickly any time it might be needed. Thank you for the video.

Put you some "Flatout" in those tires and they won't ever leak again. I choose "Flatout" over the Green Slime because it lasts for the life of the tire. Stops nuisance leaks and anything up to a 1/2".

Jim, thanks for the DIY video. I watched and decided to tackle the job just as you presented. I had done it once before but I used 2x3’s joe blocks and it was way off. Today I cut 2” blocks and had to some serious raising on the rear, but it’s now even and cutting nicely. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video and for demonstrating exactly what you are reading in the manual. I just wanted to add that this advice also holds true for the E100 series. (Pgs. 20-21 in my manual).

I was searching for this info after noticing my hangers were opposite. One was straight down the other was backwards but in this video yours were the same way. I did watch your deck removal video and saw the both should be straight. Thanks for the video

Correct they should be straight good catch

Thank you for this vid. One thing that surprised me was how a few PSI in the rear tire affected the deck height. Just one of the many things I learned from this clean, informative, fun video.

JD Mod for those of us that has suffered...
The E-100 series deck height adjustment lever was changed to a handle so you don't catch your jewels while sliding off.
Handle is about 12 bucks and worth every penny.
    Great vid btw !

Good job on the video. Thanks for showing us not only how to measure the deck but also how to actually make the adjustments - unlike another UA-cam video titled “leveling a mower deck” that shows you how to measure it but neglects showing any adjustment procedure. (The guy seems more interested in showing off his immaculate lawn instead.)

Jim, what I also did was to put flat needle bearing with a flat washer on easy side and put them in my front steering, it turns like it has power steering. There is a video on it. You might want too try. Thanks for showing how to balance deck.
