    LX178 for 22 years; X350 for 4 yrs. Since usually long intervals between removing/leveling deck, and since inception of youtube, I watch a instructional video to refresh my memory on the procedures. Today is 1st time I have watched your video and without reservation, and complete certitude, I can attest that your video should be recommended by John Deere as the definitive video to understand these procedures. Great camera work, lighting, and speech clarity. Gold Metal to you!

    This is the best deck leveling video I have seen. Deere has a video but the guy blocks the view of the front leveling point which can lead to confusion. I did't see this mentioned but be sure the deck wheels are not holding up the deck. I just pull the pins out of the deck wheels and let them float. After I move the deck to the height I want it to cut and since the wheels are sitting loosely on the floor I raise them up until the pin goes in the next hole and it is ready to go. Don't assume the dealer has done all the initial setups for you. When I had my 2023 X390 with 54" deck delivered it was cutting poorly and riding rough. I found the front tires had 12psi instead of 14psi and the rear tires had 20psi instead of 10psi. Adjusting this greatly
    improved the ride. The front and rear of the deck was at least 1/2" low. I also had to add 1/2quart of fluid to the transaxle so be sure to check everything.

    I bought a new X350 from a neighbor who was selling it because his wife said it was scalping the grass on one side. I knew right away it needed leveling. Another neighbor who has owned a John Deer for years cam over and helped me but it still never seemed right. This video truly helped with the issue. My x350 does not have a clear place on the right to put the measure. But I was able to average it out and both sides are now fairly equal. The front was a real pain. Getting both rods at the proper level was a pain and took some pounding to get the deck rods to slide up to the new position. After I went around the deck and measured with a tape measure and it is pretty close. Time to see it out on the lawn.

    0:52 how did you turn that knob so easy? I got a brand new mower, this brand, and I can't turn that lift adjust stop with even a wrench.

    Thank you for this video but I've run into a problem. Do you have any thoughts?
    For some reason my adjustment screws bottom out on one side and almost bottomed out on the other for the adjustment measuring tool to fit. Now my deck raise pedal barely functions and the lock will not engage. I've re-watched the video and followed every single step to ensure I didn't miss anything and I can't figure it out.

    Thanks for the well done video here. The lighting is good, the camera angles are good, and you do a good job explaining. I have a question for you about the X350. I recently purchased a used one with about 90 hours on it, but the deck is nothing like the one you have here. It's a 42 accel deck, but it only has two front guide wheels. No rear guide wheels or center anti-scalping rollers. Someone is probably going to say I got screwed by the seller, but I wanted to ask a professional their opinion.

    I have to check my 350, it seems to mow nice but alot of adjustment threads stick down, and that's where the problem with belt rub starts. From what I've read on alot of these tractors.

    • @247parts

      This can be tricky. To make sure it is right, you have to find a level spot.

  • @eosjoe565

    I wish JD would have made those holes in the fender pan just a wee bit larger, it would have made it easier to insert the tool into the adjusting nut from above. Speaking of the tool, my tool wore out after a few seasons. It is just soft metal, not hardened tool steel and will quickly wear to the point of slipping in the hex adjusters. You can minimize this wear by lifting up ever so slightly on the edge of the deck when turning the bolt clockwise to raise the deck. This takes the deck weight off the bolt and allows it to turn much easier. I finally bagged the tool and got myself an extra long T-handle 8mm hex wrench. I actually got two of them as they were less than $10 each. I insert both when levelling the deck and then I don't have to keep removing and inserting the tool as I go side to side to verify level.

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 роки тому

      @EricTheNotSoRed I end up leveling mine a couple times per season. The adjusters that JD uses don't really hold position all that well. It's even worse if you have someone who has a habit of stepping on the deck.

    Hey Brent, great video. I have an X734, and the deck is extremely unbalanced. On the left side it is only a half inch off the floor, but I can’t raise the deck using the tool - the bolt can’t go any further. On the right side it is the opposite, where I can’t lower it any further or the bolt will run out of thread. Do I need to remove the deck to fix this? I am literally stuck and not sure how to get the deck level.

    In regards to the weld marks on the rear of the deck, I was wondering why would John Deere put two identical weld marks on the deck in about the same location on both sides of the deck and have only one be correct and the other a completely different looking weld. I think that the two identical looking weld points may be the actual spot to locate the gauge.

    It would have been helpful if you would have explained how to tell if the nuts on the front adjustment were equally adjusted to begin with. I made the assumption that the brackets were of the same length, so I just measured back from the rod end showing to the nut. If both measurements were the same, the nuts were both set the same.

There is NO John Deere documentation on the manuals nor does the JD Support group have any knowledge as to whether both need to be leveled. The support group will tell you that John Deere hasn't had technical call support system since 2020. They told me JD dealers will provide technical support.
