REALLY ENJOYED THIS. MY LATE HUSBAND AND I DROVE TO INUVIK ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND IT IS NICE TO ENJOY THE SCENERY FROM MY CHAIR. WE WENT IN SUMMER AND THE ROADS WERE NOT MUCH BETTER BUT THE SCENERY IS SPECTACULAR. WE MADE THE WHOLE TRIP WITH ONE FLAT TIRE CAUSED BY THEM GRADING THE ROADS AND TURNING UP ARROW SHAPED ROCKS.
Great job Slim, I am amazed by the people that could survive long enough to learn how to live season after season without assistance. Beautiful true wilderness.
Thank you for allowing me to live vicariously through your travels. You never fail to deliver something interesting and beautiful. Take care, stay safe.
Unbelievable Slim, this video is one of you best for narration and scenic views. I love your voice too. The rainbow shots were beautiful 🌈🌈🌈 Good job!!!
Slim's ability to make it feel like you are right there with him is especially nice in these troubling times. Thank you Mr. Potatohead for another delightful adventure. I was kind of disappointed you didn't play some more slide guitar for us in this one.
Slim's latest video has been up just over four hours and there's already 21 jerks who dropped by to give it a thumbs down. I'd bet most of them never bothered to even watch SP's fine work.
You done good Slim. Furthest north I made it was Stewart. Bless you. With a 4x4, I would have stayed to a true northern path. Well done sir, well done. 👏🏽🇨🇦👏🏽
Slim!!!! You keep out doing yourself! That was spectacular!!! One must feel so humbled by such beauty and vastness. Thank you so much for showing me something that I will never see!! ♥️♥️♥️
It is beautiful. Only thing I have to say at least it was not pouring down the rain when you went through the road construction. Sure made a mess of the out side of car and camper. That cabin is so cool. I could live there.

Wow! What a drive! When you said it took you around 8 hours of white knuckle driving, I thought you'd gone the whole 400km. Turns out you were only halfway there!!!
When I was in the US Air Force I was stationed at MacDill AFB Florida in 1974. I had orders to go to Eielsen AFB near Fairbanks Alaska. I drove which was around 5000 miles. Back then the Alcan Hwy was 1200 miles of unpaved dirt muck. On the way up was in November. I drove a 2 wheel drive International Pickup Truck towing a 26 ft. Airstream Trailer. The roads were frozen and muck and ice. Driving straight up high mountains sometimes having to be towed the rest of the way up. The way back I drove a 1969 Ford 4x4 and also towing the Airstream. I came back in April during “Breakup”, meaning melted snow, ice and muck. The whole Alcan Hwy, all 1200 miles were like the road you were on and even much worse. It was the Best memories of my whole life driving that road. Of course I have some amazing stories, too much to tell here. Happy adventures!
Back in the '70's that was normal conditions for every road in the Yukon, including the whole Alaska Hwy and even the capital Whitehorse. Winter was always the best time to drive with no dust and roads graded and frozen smooth. Brakes tended to freeze and steering got pretty stiff past 40 below though.
You could say those views are "STUNNING' is what it is..At 13 minutes and 20 seconds in the video I had to take a pic of that view it was just STUNNING.. for my screensaver...Who else loves it when he gives "US" a view with is camera? He even goes slow with his camera so i can capture them.keep them coming..
Wow, Slim - now that was a road trip. Stunning scenery and an utter mud bath. I hope you and your trailer are ok. Thank you so much for posting this glimpse of the great Yukon and The North West. Stay safe and well and warm, sir.🌞🙏🇬🇧🌞
Wow fantastic! I took the “Top of the World” highway to AK from Dawson City in 2006 pulling an 18’ fiberglass trailer with a Honda Ridgeline (started and returned to Dallas, TX). It was rough in spots but not too awful. That said, it was right around the solstice, so it was warm and dry. I’m loving your journey and hoping to one day go back to the far north. Safe travels!
...vanishing road, river of fog, mud and a weasel along with stunning vistas. You had myself and my daughter on the edge of our seats going up those muddy mountain roads...beautifully film,📽🔝 safe travel south Slim.
Really enjoyed you going into the old cabin. So many of us love seeing the past like that. Makes you wonder about the people that survived the harshness back then. Havent seen you explore old places like that before and totally enjoyed it. Your my favorite. You really explain repairs and building simple for even a woman to understand. Plus your adventures snd scenery are spectacular.
Another amazing video from the one and only! Beautiful scenery and your poetic flare to accentuate everything from the expansive to the most diminutive is awesome. Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through your adventures, Slim! Love it and thanks for another glorious journey!!! Be safe friend, from Colorado...
Wow!!! That was beautiful, but scary. I would have had to pry my fingers off the steering wheel. I was hoping maybe you would get a quick hard rain to wash your Jeep and trailer off as long as it didn’t freeze. Thanks for taking everyone along for the ride. Really enjoyed it.
Our plan was to go there this year. But the borders were shut down. So next year it is. We'll do it in July though. Great video Slim. Can't wait for the next.
Slim so amazing to see the Yukon. I am really enjoying this being an Sgt Preston of the Yukon Fan. I so much appreciate your eye for God’s Creation. Can’t wait see more
We have a saying in trucking there’s only 2 seasons winter and construction. At least they have frequent places up there for washing your truck and RV I believe they’re outdoor spray stations.
Wow, those colors! That yellow we kept seeing is almost electric looking, like it’s lit from within. Then the reds at the end, oh my! Thank you so much for showing this to us Slim.
Just a flat out fantastic video, Slim. Perhaps a return trip is in the cards and the Beaufort Sea await. A close friend of mine, a soil scientist with University of Texas, had a research expedition up there on all things soil a while back. It was great to see all his video presentations back to the students in Austin. THIS wonderful video will be referred onto him. Travel safely, have fun, be in touch and "On, my Gawd, bears!" I had to put this one in my favorites!! I will be going back to see all the beauty of the country! God really outdid himself in that country! Even with the horrible roads, I believe you thought it worthwhile! Thanks for all the awesome videos you share with us!!
Oh Slim! That was a pretty lonesome trip, along with a muddy, constructed road to travel. The end shot of a burst of colour from the mountain ridge was glorious. Happy you made it safe and sound.
Another amazing video Slim, thank you! And very proud of your Jeep for getting you through all of that! The wet gravel, mud, gas mileage and steep climbs...wow!
Whew! Congratulations getting through that muddy, rutted road. You know your equipment very well. But the magnificent views you showed us were worth the white knuckle ride along with you. Keep the videos coming, they give me the armchair inspiration I need leading up to my own road trips and campouts in the post pandemic world next year! ❤️👍🍁
I want to say that those views are beautiful, but that just doesn't do justice. I don't believe there's a word to describe the magnificence of those views. I sincerely thank you for shearing that with me. Sitting here in Scottsdale AZ when it's 110 outside and a pandemic raging. your videos are such a welcome break, you have no idea.
Wish you would've focused for a bit on that painting of a woman in the corner of the abandoned cabin. It looked really interesting and had a story to tell. Loved the video -stay safe out there Slim.
This video touched me. Such beauty and courage to travel there Thank you. I was joyful as I watched your travels. I've been in Houston most of my life and this journey was truly wonderful to watch.
I know, right? Brilliant. I love seeing all the great ideas. Just to kick it up a notch. Since you are an engineer, Slim, any chance you could figure out a strategy for putting in heated floors and/or on the shower floor?
It’s strange that even with today’s stunning cameras, you still can’t capture the magnificence of nature when seeing it though your own eyes. Great videos, and at least we get a taste and entertainment, not such a bad deal.
Awesome trip! I for myself made it to the Arctic cirle, too. I rode by bicycle up from Germany to northern Sweden. The landscape there was not that ruff than your's but it was just as cold and rainy and a great experience. Btw. My profile picture was made on that trip. I'm looking forward to your next video! Greetings from Bavaria
Thanks for sharing this Slim, I was supposed to be there last May until COVID hit, plan on going next year. Hoping the world is healthier and friendlier.
Another one of my favorite UA-camrs is in the Yukon too. If you bump into him he's got an Australian accent and drives around a Jeep with a Africa decal on the door. You guys should get together around the campfire and share stories :)
Having grown up in Northern Manitoba, I know all about ugly, pothole ridden, gravel roads. And climate is always a serious consideration. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Looking forward to more.
Im glad you mentioned this. I, too, had to look up the highway, the location, e.t.c. it was a great way to learn. Slim, your videos are perfect, and I wouldn't change a thing. But, if you thought it might work, it might be nice to show us a map and a plan of where you are at and where we are going when we travel with you. Just for fun.
WOW! Wonderful video. That’s a trip I would love to make. I’ve been on the Alaska Highway five times but never on the Dempster to Tuktoyaktuk. Our Lance trailer would not do as well as your little egg.
It is the only roadway into the North and is the lifeline for goods and people to travel back and forth to the Northern communities. There would have to be a really good reason to close this road.
looks like a standard road for anyone working in the alberta oilfields, which is why it's best traveled in winter. cue "iohan gueorguiev, see the world" videos when he started his biking trip some 5 years ago.
Anytime the upper layer of the road is frost and snow free, it's road repair season in the far north. I have frequently take a massive, rear wheel drive, class A motorhome, through conditions as bad, and even worse than this. There are times when the road is so bad they end up building a temporary dirt bypass, off to the side, as they dig a really bad area out, or replace a failed culvert. As to why it's allowed to remain open, there is no choice. In many areas it is the only land route available to get to a village, mine, or other destination. If you see a land accessible village, or larger town on a map of YT, AK, or most of the northern half of Canada in general, chances are that it's only got one road in, and out. Governments try real hard to avoid absolute closures, and plan far ahead if there is no choice. A closed road can cause a lot of stress and expense to a village that gets cut off. Everything from food and fuel to medical care can be a big problem once you have to fly everything in and out.
I really enjoy the way you pout your videos together. You really tell an interesting story each time, not only with spectacular images and quality videos but in the narration throughout. Safe travels.
Those roads reminds me of here... back in the 50ies when they were building them up to today’s standards... two years project... my mom drive them to work daily in an old Pontiac with two mud grip tires ... never missed a day
Wow what a way to escape from it all. I really enjoyed this one, about the only thing that would of made me reroute would be the limited gas and how in the middle of no where this is . I COULENT IMAGNE OF A BLET BROKE AND IF A TRANSMISSION WENT out or ect. go wrong. oh well at least i experenced it thru video annd it did t cast me a dime. thanks slim hope their more to the northern journey.. "a river of fog" --- love that. And that shot at the end with those colors on that hillside --- stunning!
Those colours were amazing, so vibrant.
But didn't he say bears???
Guess they were enjoying the view too! 😳
Yes indeed! Fantastic. Leave itvto SP to find beauty wherever he takes us!
