5:45.. Peter saw his friend struggling with emotions in the loss of his friend and stepped up to sing with him and help him through it. Even made a little joke to distract him. What a sweet man he was.

It's impossible to watch this without tearing up. Mickey so bravely wore that emotion so many were feeling but not at a fraction of the depth and meaning he was pulling from. It's so raw, its visceral.

L Martinez I think whatever one's relationship is with another through the years, the craft of doing something together over a long period forms an undeniable bond. I would be hard pressed to think this was a throw away gesture just for the fans.

L Martinez Mickey & Davy were very close & you can hear the pain in his voice, he’s struggling to get thru each song but he is an entertainer & knows the show must go on.... and so it does with the help of the audience. Bless you Mickey. RIP Davy & Peter 💙👏🏼👏🏼🥀

Aretha Franklin is an honored singer . She sang great songs written by great songwriters while musicians filled out the sound. So The Monkees were a TV show about a fictitious band. The Actors really sang the songs and became a band. They had many great hits with many top notch session musicians, just like Aretha. The Monkees started out as a concept and became real. At quite a stretch, for a while they outsold The Beatles and the Stones. I must confess, one time I walked 20 miles round trip to a record store and bought a Monkees album as a present for my sister. Our teen years were spent playing lps and 45s and The Monkees records were all a part of that. Another band from that era, take a look back at The McCoys. All great music.

A Monkee fan from 1970 at 5 years old. I thought they were wild and funny and they've been with me these last 45 years at the ripe old age of 50. They were, in my opinion, the greatest example of boy band success and also of making something out of nothing. These guys were insanely popular and deservedly so. R.I.P. Davy.

Watching and crying. I know it sounds crazy, but when you grow up with bands like The Beatles and The Monkees every time one of them passes you feel like a part of your life has gone with them. It happened when John Lennon was killed, when my favorite George Harrison passed and when Davy passed.

Yes, I think my mom liked the 50's stuff. I couldn't get into his garish 70's outfits though. I was more bell bottom jeans with holes in them and halter tops. LOL! My teen crush was David Cassidy. I thought Jones was cute, but, he was too short. If I'm going to have a crush, I'm going to have to be able to wear my heels. LOL!!

I feel so fortunate to have grown up in the 60's and 70's experiencing wonderful music, TV shows, comedians that were actually funny, being told by my Mom to "don't stay indoors, go out and play and be back by 5 for supper", my Dad giving me a .22 bolt action rifle when I was 11 and teaching me to shoot and respect firearms, going bike riding without a helmet.......this video sadly reminds me of how many wonderful parts of my youth are gone forever...including my youth.

Let's put to rest any notion that Mike didn't care about Davy. He posted a very lovely status about Davy after his death, and this Rolling Stones interview reveals a true respect for, and fond memories of Davy (youtube won't let me post the link. Google Rolling Stone Mike Nesmith on Davy Jones) Rumors are not fact. If you don't hear it from the source, it probably isn't the full truth.

These guys didn't even know each other when they were cast to star in the Monkees together. What a testament to the bond of friendship and musical talent to see Mickey getting emotional singing this song...what other "boy band" will ever have a moment like this? Great band, great memories.

I grew up watching the Monkees,Davy,of course,my favorite. I was stunned when I heard of his death. Watched this around the 1-yr. anniversary & had to turn it off when Mickey started crying. I'll always enjoy their music ,especially "I want to be Free" & "Shades of Gray". RIP Artful Dodger-"consider yourself one of the family"!

Hi Guys, what a great video. I’m 64 now, and I used to race home every Saturday to watch The Monkees as a young kid. Great times, great memories, and great guys, with wonderful fun songs. Oh boy, to go back to them times would be something else! Sadly, we’ve now lost Peter and Mike. Rest in heavenly peace guys, and thanks for being a massive part of my life, and bringing to us all, such happiness 🙏🏼❤️

I first heard of the Monkees in 1986 when I was 9 years old. My best friend and I would watch the Monkees tv show all summer and we actually planned the double wedding we were going to have (me and Davy, her and Peter). unfortunately it didn't come to pass lol, but I will always love their music!!

I'm 48, (well in May anyhow) and watched them after kindergarten and after school in the early 70's, as well as at the 20 year mark in the 80's, and I still love these guys as much now as I did then.
The music was good the show was funny as hell, and at the center were 4 really cool guys who left a musical legacy that, in your case, has been passed down to you from your father, just the way it should be. Good to see the Monkees are in good hands! :-)

Wow! Love the banjo on "I'm A Believer" - good on ya, Peter! Man, this video is so moving. Not a dry eye in the house, I bet! Davy on the screen behind them. My heart goes out to everyone there, but especially Davy's family - which include his 'brothers' Peter and Micky.

I love reading the comments from the different generations of fans. What an impact this group had, for only being on the air for two years! Davy was my first crush at 11 when the reruns were played on Nick at Nite in 1996 for the 30th anniversary. And just like you guys from the 1st generation of fans, I had all of their cds. I was so sad when I heard Davy died, watching the Monkees was an important part of my childhood. I still know every word to most of their songs! I will say this, Peter was the best musician, Mike was the best song writer, and Micky the best singer, but Davy was the heart of that group, and without him, it's just not the same. I didn't even like most of the songs he sang (not because of him, but he was given the weird womanizing ones because he was the heart throb), but he managed to make them nice just from his sheer charisma and charm- I didn't really listen to the words of Cuddly Toy for years because of his adorable dance, but now I'm like, oh, eeek. I think one of my biggest regrets was when he came to an autograph signing near me when I was probably 14 or 15. My dad took be to the mall, and I took one of my records, but when I saw the line was mostly older people, and heard that he had been there for hours already, I was embarrassed, and felt bad for him. I didn't get in line, and now I really, really wish I had met him that day. I did make my poor dad carry my record around the mall while I stalled Davy from behind :)
