Nice review! I've done in excess of 20.250 kilometers or 12.500 with mine from early April to October 2023. Never had any issues with the bike not starting correctly. Except when I put on 98 fuel. Morning after I had starting issues. Use 95/E10 fuel and there won't be a problem. The bike is optimized for 95 fuel.
Front fork head bearing needs to be re-tightened. I have then check it on service intervals. Same issue with my previous bike (1290 SAS). Did >55.000 kilometers with that bike, front fork bearing was checked on every service. Not had many issues with my 890, a software glitch once at 10k kilometers, which didn't come back. Cruise control doesn't like bike washing. Conks out but comes back after ca 1hr. Cheers.

It happens first to second because that's where neutral is in the gear box in between 1 and 2nd

Regarding the neutral. I unscrewed the shaft and screwed it back in and it just magically works now. No false neutrals

Sorry to hear you are having starting problems. I rode a 2020 KTM 790R for 4 years and 30,000 km. This summer I traded it in for a 2023 890R and have 11,000 km on it. I have always used Chevron 94 octane and never had starting problems with either bike. On both bikes as soon as I turned the key I could hit the starter and they would start immediately. There are many bikes with starting problems but KTM doesn't seem to be responding very quickly

Nice review and riding Chris. I bought the same bike in Mar 23 and have put 4500 miles on it so far, 95% on road. Haven't had the problems you mentioned (shifting into neutral, difficult to start) so I'll count myself lucky. Not crazy about the stock tires and am about to replace them with 80/20 road biased tires since that's where I do nearly all of my riding.

Great review and had the same problem with the Scorpion STR Rally on my 23 Adventure S. I increase the air pressure and it helped a little but the bouncing still occurred between 30-40mph. Hopefully it’ll go away after another thousand miles. If not I’ll swap out the front tire.

Thanks. For the money, I'm sticking with the Shinko front for now. Quiet, good performance on street and dirt. Recommend 30psi for a good compromise between on road and off-road pressures. Cheers.

Just got mine back from the shop getting the first service done since it needed a software update as well. Also had a bad battery. Went to start it after working out of town for a few weeks and it wouldn't start the night before I was going to take it to the shop. It also doesn't want to start cold. I'm almost empty on this tank, I'll try the regular gas and see what happens. Took them 2 weeks to get it done though. They had to wait for a battery from KTM because of warranty. Luckily I was busy or I would've been super pissed I didn't have the bike.

Great video and good to see you riding the 890 how it should be ridden. I have the 22 890 adventure model and have had the same start problem but only twice, mine has 3000 miles on it, I’ve got the SC project rally exhaust and it sounds great. I’m going to try Dunlop trailmax raid next. Even though they are a temperamental bike, they are addictive.

@@dualsportadventure I've got the Trailmax Raids on my 690. Definitely give up some street riding ability, the front end wanders on striated pavement. Off road they hook up really well.

I run premium in my 2023 adv r and have had zero issues starting. Except for once when the battery died. I have heard that lithium batteries have hard time starting this bike when cold. I am using a yuasa because thats what my dealer recommended. The starting on a single cylinder thing is odd though I would ask the dealer to fix that it isnt right.

  • @murrayplante7634
    @murrayplante7634 8 місяців тому +1

You need to get the shift shaft sensor reprogrammed to resolve the false neutrals. It’s generally done at the 1st 600 mile (1000 km) service and not a bad idea to have it reprogrammed every once in a while at the recommended service intervals. Take it to your dealer as they need to use their XC2 tool to reprogram it.

Occasional false neutrals and one cylinder starts for me. Don't need to hold the throttle when it occurs. It will always start 2nd, 3rd time normally. Just let it run for 60 secs and she's ready to go. It's unfortunate, but it's well worth those small issues.

Interesting the note about high octane fuel.. I always wondered why the adv motor makes so much less power than the 890 duke r motor... I guess they tuned it for 87 and forgot to tell us!
I think they won't admit they goofed because it'd be a pr nightmare so they're just forcing dealers to fix 'warranty' issues when it's just a tuning thing.

I do recommend the TR40s. I plan to make a video about them soon. The carrier/rack is also by SHAD specific to the 4p system. A generic rack won't work.

I also have the same bike, on the first 500 kms i had to torque the triple clamp, if i turn off the bike with the kill switch, after some seconds it gives me error with of invalid key, the dealer will need to change the ignition and new keys, i'm waiting to go there and change, the problem of loosing memory settings for up and down, it´s only if i choose one arrow for ridding modes, and only happens if i ride in Rally mode, after go to settings since when in rally mode we can change, choose another mode, then press the upper arrow again that mode it's empty. Regarding the Pirelli i don't have any problems, i also had a T7 without any problems, but i know people o had, and the dealers of yamaha are changing the tires here in my country. They should have choose the cruise control knob for setting the rally slip, the cold start only had once.

If I purchase a motorcycle for $17-$20,000…it should never, ever have to go back to the dealer, with the exception being recall or warranty issue, and the warranty issues in and of itself are one of a handful of reasons to never own a KTM, as much as I like them. It’s crazy to me that guys are okay with constant trips to the dealer, then chalk it up to “hey I’ll just deal with it.”
