- Just a few thoughts after a couple of days and 800km with 2023 KTM 890 Adv R.
I moved to this bike from 2021 Husky 701 Enduro. So far, so good! :)

You made a great choice. I had a 2020 KTM 790R for 4 years and bought a 2023 KTM 890R in May. I have 12000 km on it and love it. I have the heated grips and plan to get a skid plate for it. I did very little chain maintenance on my 790 and rode it for 30000 km. The chain was in excellent condition. I plan to do the same with the 890. You can easily ride it for 400 km and then it is time to fuel up. I don't think any other bike comes close.
Thanks for all of the information - very useful. I hope to use my KTM to the fullest next year and I will start 2024 season with a trip to Morocco, that should be an excellent testing ground of my 890AdvR :)

Nice bike bro. I had a 2023 Husky 701 with a Nomad Tower however doing the Back Discovery Routes in USA, I found that it was torture to ride 3-400km so I decided to get the 2023 KTM Adventure R. I will be better travelling long distances however the windscreen needs to be changed ASAP as the turbulence is absurd over 65 mph. Great video!

In regards to windshield - I have also tried the higher one on Norden 901 and 890 Adventure and to be honest, I much more prefer the low one on the R model, my helmet is much more stable in clean air flow. Yes, there is definitely more noise, but at least my neck is not suffering that much. All the best in 2024!

Thanks for your video. I have 690 and want to change to 890. Love the 690 but after 3 years I’d like a change, doing more highway to go further from home. It was interesting to hear about your experience going from 701 to 890. Cheers

I was lucky to ride Norden 901, 901 Expedition and 890R. Out of those three on the KTM I felt most at home. Maybe also because of much less body work (plastics) on the 890.

901 Norden is much more comfortable on long-distance. rides . And the Expedition it much more appealing in design and looks.
@maddog100ful True, 901 would be more comfortable than 890R, but coming from CRF 250 and Husky 701 - 890R seat is like a sofa :)
In regards to looks - it is really subjective, for me 890R has more character, but I also like 901 Norden!

I was considering AJP PR7 before I decided to buy 701 Enduro three years ago. Unfortunately there is no AJP dealer network in Poland, almost no access to parts... and there are just about 60 people on the AJP PR7 Poland community (vs 3K on 690/701). It was just not a good idea in my reality. But I love the concept of the PR7!

I love this bike had mine a couple of months now The one thing that frustrates me for a £14k bike with ALL its tech has a terrible fuel display. How this got through KTM I don’t know. You sit at 120 miles range from full (which is actually circa 240 miles) then at about half a tank it suddenly drops to 60 mile range left. I know we can go off the trip meter on miles done but Considering this is an adventure travel bike where you’ll have manage fuel and refuel stops possibly in remote locations it’s pretty Sh1t of KTM I think

Yes, I've noticed that too and I keep on resetting the trip meter to rely more on the mileage since last refuel (and resetting that trip meter is possible after quite many clicks as well).
Definitely there's room for improvement.
I also need to learn to adjust chain slack, so far it is quite tricky compared to other bikes I've owned...

I totally agree and have the same bike and am absolutely not happy about the fuel range display. C'mon KTM, please give us an update! It really makes me upset other than this bike is a freakin' dream!

A ja zastanawiam się czy kupić CRF300 Rally lub Husqvarna 701.I za cholerę nie wiem czy moc w CRF mi wystarczy chociaż w 701 będzie tej mocy aż za dużo do mojego szwendania się po TET-ach.Właściciel GSA1250😂

The chain looks too tight, it's annoying the slack but prevents to brake the front sprocket seal, to me the noise it makes it's more annoying then the heat...

This chain is really strange - it looked too tight for me as well when the bike was on the side stand, but when I was riding I could hear and feel it was too loose.
Yesterday I was at the dealer and the service guy told me it was far too loose and told me to be religiously careful about the proper slack as too loose chain eats through the plastic sliders and then the swingarm :/
So I am quite confused by this chain...

Out of a Google search: "A worn-down chain is a possible reason why it is becoming looser over time; as the chain is used more and more, the links start to stretch and loosen causing more play, or movement up and down, on the chain. This movement might only be minimal, but applying this movement to every link on the chain means that there can be a noticeable difference over time."

Cześć. Poszukuje lżejszej i bardziej offroadowej alternatywy do Africa Twin. Jak z perspektywy czasu ocenisz plotki na temat " legendarnej niezawodności ktm-a "? Nie ukrywam. że moto bardzo mi się podoba, ale boje się że luksus bezproblemowości do którego Honda mnie przyzwyczaiła ... tutaj może okazać się z goła inny...

Tak, jeśli chodzi o KTM to wciąż panuje przekonanie, że trzeba być przygotowanym na różne "kwiatki". Jak dotąd moje doświadczenia to:
- 2021 Husky 701 enduro (czyli to jest KTM 690 Enduro R w białych plastikach): 15k km i zero problemów. Nic się nie działo niepokojącego.
- 2023 KTM 890 Adv R - mam na nim teraz 4 tyś km. Właśnie wróciliśmy z Maroko. Poza tym, że denerwuje mnie na moje oko za luźny łańcuch (a wyregulowany wg specyfikacji), to też mam z nim ultra spokój - motocykl nie zawiódł mnie jeszcze ani razu, acz wiem, ze to dopiero początek i różne rzeczy mogą się dziać, bo internet pełen jest ciekawych przypadków tego modelu (od problemów z anteną immobilizera, przez odpalanie na jednym cylindrze (u mnie tego nie ma), po inne problemy z elektroniką.
Ale jak dotąd frajda z jazdy i niezawodność są dla mnie źródłem wielkiej przyjemności. Przymierzałem się do Africa Twin 1100, ale to był dla mnie zbyt ciężki i szosowy motocykl na moje potrzeby.
KTM ma teraz sporo motocykli na jazdy próbne - wg mnie to byłby najlepszy pomysł :)
@@CykloGamonie Dzięki za tak wyczerpującą odpowiedz. Africa jest świetna , natomiast moja z gmolami etc to ponad 250kg. Także mastodont. Szczerze , to trafiłem na twój kanał dzięki 701. Był to mój plan nr. 1. Potem rozsądek zwyciężył . Przy dłuższych przelotach jednak fajnie mieć trochę więcej komfortu. Ograniczyłem swoje zapędy do trzech modeli: 890, T7 extreme i Tuarega. Jak się uda sprawdzę wszystkie i zdecyduje . Nie zmienia to zaś faktu, że 890 kradnie powoli moje serduszko hah ;)
Jak oceniasz Mitasy e07+? Dobrze widzę, że to e07+? Z opisu na stronie producenta to opony 60/40. Dodatkowo jak byś je porównał do Pirelli rally str? Stoję przed zakupem opon do f800gs. Szukam coś w miarę uniwersalnego ale dającego radę w terenie typu tet.
Hej, trudne pytanie, bo na Rally Str jeździłem tylko przez chwilę na T7 kolegi, a na Mitasach E07+ mam zaledwie 1200km nalotu.
Jedno wiem: w październiku i na mokrej nawierzchni Mitasy ślizgają się na asfalcie jak złoto. Kontrola trakcji przy odkręcaniu manetki pracuje regularnie.
Ale w lekkim offie są w miarę ok, na TET będą spoko (poza mokrymi fragmentami typu Wciągająca Łączka na Lubelszczyźnie).
I jednak do TKC80 miałem większe zaufanie niz do Mitasow i TKC na TET PL nigdy nie zawiodły.

@@CykloGamonie Aaa. Sorry. To mój błąd. Myślałem, że w 701 były rally str. Czyli tkc lepsze znoś e07+?
Dla mnie tak - TKC80 dużo lepsze niż Mitas E07+ do jazdy 50/50. Mitas jest jakby jednak odrobinę bardziej szosowy od TKC.

Sorry, but get use to two things. Chain slap is a KTM thing. And if you have a center stand, well consider that you have a symphony of KTM music
Right and this is the only thing that bugs me about 890. I went to 1000km service to KTM dealership and my chain was set as per manual - they told me it was too loose and it will eat the chain guide when set like that. They set it much tighter and it didn't make the noise, but my concern was then about the shaft bearing and sprockets.... I feel like it will drive me mad one day...
I have an 1190 AdvR. A tip. Only set the chain for what the manual calls for. That plastic piece on top is actually a slider.
Lubricate the chain regularly. Get yourself two tools. A Pro Motion chain adjuster/measuring tool. Then a BPA-Racing Motorcycle Chain Slack Adjuster Tool. Once you have the chain measured correctly use the BPA to keep track of your chain.
Trust me, eventually you’ll hardly notice the noise. You’ll notice the center stand more than the chain.
