Hey whenever you are going slow like that its better to use the clutch instead of the quick shifter. Especially going from 1st to 2nd. They work best whenever you have the revs up.
I agree with you on most things. I have just over 800 miles on mine and just like you I love it. I head out in a week on a 3000 mile dirt road adventure so we will see how it does. Truly enjoy watching your videos and input. Safe travels me friend look forward to watching your next video soon.
@@joaoroman9583 I have over 5000 miles on mine now. I will tell you is there noise yes, does it bother me no. I have 175,000 miles of riding on thumpers with no wind screen so I am happy with it. The bike it self has been amazing. I have ridden street, highways, back country desert roads, dirt roads, back country mountain roads with rocks. Yes I have dropped it once and was very easy to pick up. I traded a KTM 690 for this bike and very happy with it.
Thanks for sharing! I recently rode my buddy's KTM 790 Adventure and I agree on how small it feels. I normally ride a Himalayan and they feel about equally weighted (but the 790 is SO much more power.)
Hi. Great video. Enjoy the 890. They are awesome 👍🏻. Regarding going into neutral between 1/2. Are you using the Quickshifter? At 5:57 you used the clutch to change gears and accidentally hit N. If you shift without the clutch with a very positive push on the gear change lever I never miss a gear change on mine. Better to shift firm than lightly and the quickshifter works flawlessly. Enjoy ! 😊
Just got my 890 '23 this weekend also, already put 500 km (~310 miles) on it. All I can say is that I'm loving it! Regarding the quick shifter, just be aware that this is a feature usually useful in racing at high revs (for upshifting at least), as it's way faster for the electronics to momentary cut the power on upshifts or to auto blip on downshift that it is for a human. Because of this, trying to use the quick shifter for upshifts at low revs, or if the acceleration is not engaged, only creates jerkiness, or might even stall the engine due to insufficient revs for the higher gear, so, most of the time when you see the bike shifting into neutral might be because your revs were too low to sustain an upshift, also an unassertive gear change will result into neutral or false neutrals, but this is more of an getting used to the bike thing. On offroad at low revs I high encourage you to use the clutch for upshifts. Downshifts should not be any issues using the quick shifter unless you are 8500+ revs :)
Interesting you have different mirrors than I do....I have the mickey mouse ears ones. Did you change them out to those, or did the bike come equipped like that? Definitely going to change mine out..
I guess how tall you are has a great deal as to how affective the windscreen is. I'm 5'9" and feel no wind on the helmet at highway speed...just a little on the shoulders. I'm perfectly happy with it. The only issue at present I have with the bike (just completed the 600 mile service) is that I have a wheel hop that begins at around 37 MPH and subsides at about 49 MPH. The dealer has tried balancing the front wheel several times but has been unable to correct it. Presently, the technicians at the local dealer and the KTM factory service reps are working to resolve the problem. I think it is probably the front wheel being damaged due to being strapped down too tight for shipment. Anyhow, love the bike so far.....
I set up my quikselect 1 button for ABS, and 2 for Rally. I basically leave it in Rally 7, off road abs, in off road abs the bike saves the setting even after turning the ignition off.
L'ho presa a settembre dell'anno scorso, percorso strada e fuoristrada.....bellissima, divertentissima da guidare, ruota anteriore da 21' ma sembra quasi di avere un 17', e il motore é fantastico, tantissima coppia!!! Per me The best!! Ciaoo buoni motogiri ✌️🍀🏍👋
I’d love to know if these are finally reliable. I love the 790adv for here in Japan much more than the transalp, but I don’t need to call a tow truck in the middle of nowhere every 3rd ride
This. I am so in Love with this platform since KTM announced the bike in 2018/2019, but you just can´t ask KTM owners. They are, as we all are, fanbois who will tell you everything but the flaws. People these days even don´t seem to bother when they have to fill up oil once a week/longer trip. This is a no go for me. Unfortunately, there are no reliable sources for reliability issues, nor statistics. If you find information regarding this topic, please tag me :) Thank you in advance.
cant speak on the upgrade as I never sat on an older one. As for this one and about 9hrs on highway in one day, it was much better than expected, not great, but very good for stock.
Nice video! Bought the 890 S too. Being a taller guy the solution to the (almost eternal) wind screen conundrum was simply to put the seat in the highest position. The screen actually worked pretty well even in the lower position for me, but with seat in highest position much better. Almost clean air on the helmet and still body wind protection. I've had issues with almost Evy wind screen solution I've hat on several different bike, but not this one. Does it mean it's perfect under all wind conditions? Oh got the ergo/comfort seat as well, made a big difference :)
Agree fully on the dumba$$ round mirrors on the just as dumb wire stalks. Am thinking about this bike and that is one of the first things to go. Also agree with you on the apparent build quality and cheapness of the thing. But I am encouraged about the off-road balance plus the on-road long distance travel capabilities, and that is the only reason I’m interested over a BMW middleweight.
yeah my eyes were on a BMW 850 GSA as well, but Id almost be in the same situation as the Africa Twin. This bike is just something else to ride, and wow it's really amazing!
@@adventureundone Did you get a test ride before you bought it? I am told that this is not allowed, likely due to the 1500km test ride off the additional features …??
@@adventureundone I bailed on Pigs at the last minute because the rain forecast but I see it was nice on saturday. Instead we road up to Jasper Arkansas for Friday though Monday. Perfect riding weather and a grand time. Add that to your travel plans one day!
Hint, the seat sucks. Seat concepts ain’t much better. The best I’ve used is the power parts heated seat because it has extra padding. My 790 has 16,000 trouble free miles.
Amazing for your video of 2023 KTM Adventure 890 / First Impressions. I admire you. You are a good driver. Thanks sharing.❤

Nimble. Nimble is the word you’re looking for. The bike is VERY easy to control. Those low gas tanks make all the difference in the world!
Happy man review! KTM really give you that filling.

what's your take on the windscreen for highway riding, is it that bad?

I have been noticing that myself as well. At first I was trying to be a bit gentle on the quick shifter, but not a nice flick up and all is good.

Brilliant review, thank you.
Great review!! I have the 790R and love it but I’m on tiptoes. Wondering how the suspension is with the 40mm less travels. Thoughts?
Do you use any tracking app? I would love to ride some of the trails you ride?
Nice take,thanks.
I like to cruise around 80-95 on the freeways how does the 890 do?

The perfect long distance load carrying off road platform.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the 890. I'm considering this bike along with the Ducati desert x, Aprilia Tuareg and T7. 👍
only the ktm has cruise control
Tuareg has cruise control as standard.
Any heat issues from the engine?
how do you like the windscreen extension?
Hi, can you please share how much of an improvement the seats are and whether it's good for long distance touring?

Are you skipping Pigs in the Forest this year?
Maybe both since it’s kinda along the way if you swing wide 😉
Yeah, we are doing the Smokey 500 at the end of the month, so I decided to mix up some rides a bit.
But I do have a Pigs ticket sitting here 🤣

Why not the R model so you can have best on and off road
the R model was very very tall
The neutral thing isn't just you. You'll get used to it though.
