Fog makes landscape photographs so much easier, especially woodland photography. And it leads to that enchanting and mysterious mood. But unfortunately, the best fog gets overlooked by most weather services. This video explains why and how you can anyway predict fog, also when it is not predicted.

Das Wetter in Salzburg war herrlich als ich ankam! Noch immer super also ich schreibe. Ich glaube am Montag soll der Regen anfangen. Wie immer das Video war sehr interessant!.
Hallo Erich, vielen Dank! So, ich hab jetzt für dich nachgeschaut: ab Montag Mittag ist das Wetter südlich der Stadt Salzburg eher regnerisch. Die Stadt ist die Regengrenze zum Norden und wenn man es ganz genau nimmt, dann ist sogar ein sehr kleines Hoch über die Stadt Salzburg am Nachmittag und kein Regen. Aber du weißt ja: Vorhersagen kommen oft ein wenig verschoben (geografisch wie auch zeitlich), besonders wenn es um Grenzwettersituationen geht.
Also, was auch immer du machst: Regensachen einpacken am Montag. Aber nimm auch was für wärmere Bedingungen mit. Szenario B sieht nämlich lückige Wolken vor am Nachmittag. Das würde bedeuten, dass zeitweise die Sonne durch kommt. Das würde sich auch hervorragend zum Fotografieren von Aussichten mit Licht/Schatten-Spielen eignen.

Very interesting video and funny timing. I actually recorded a video about how I predict fog and wanted to release it somewhere this or next week. But I will wait a couple of weeks I have enough material from my recent trips 🙂 what I like is that we look for the same results but we take a totally different road towards is. Grt guido
Hi Guido, yes, fog is awesome, isn't it? The basic way of predicting fog by using normal weather models is quite simple, actually. I did that many years by using weather maps, which leads to a really high accuracy. But there are a couple of situations when the basic way doesn't work. Scattered sub highs within a low is one of them. And as no weather service is considering that, but it is important for outdoor photographers, I'm currently working eagerly to find solutions therefore, as I did for this one 😊 So, there will definitely come more.

Easier is Dew Point Temp is equal to Temp. Fog predictions are good to know by Pilots.
Hi @dronepilotcontractors4094, thank you for your thoughts! Yes, the dew point delta can be used as an indicator, but not for fog itself, just for the breakthrough of the water out of the air. So, it is just one of multiple factors we need to predict fog. And especially when it comes down to landscape photography, we want to have it really precise: will there be fog, mist, or steaming water? Will they alternate or will they stay on constant altitude? Or will they even just turn to low level clouds? That's a big difference for a photograph 🙂
