It's not because of the UV resin, it's actually because of the mica powder dulling the shine of the mold. The spots where the uv resin was stays glossy because it's being protected by said uv resin.
Maybe try a Gel (uv) polish clear top coat, instead of UV resin, top coat does not get as hot as the resin does. Just an idea I had. I am a nail enthusiast that has been drawn to resin.
Not only did the dome save the project from the imprint of the last design but as good as they looked before the dome they somehow look so many times better with the high shine!
Tip to prevent the mold from reacting to your method: Lay a thin layer of clear over the mold and let it cure before working on your design method. This prevents your mold from having any reaction to either the UV resin or the mica powders.
In a pinch, if you don't have black bottles, wrap the bottle in foil. Would suggest doing that with the dark bottles also if leaving the resin in them for a while. Works a treat. We do this in the lab to protect photosensitive chemicals in the lab all the time 😀
Wow, these are gorgeous! I love them both, but I’m a little bit more partial to the purple one. Now I’m gonna have to go catch up on all of your videos. I’m a new subscriber. I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel! You are giving me so many great ideas to play around with, I have UV resin and regular epoxy so this can be a lot of fun for me but I don’t have these particular tray molds but I have lots of other kinds. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful talent!!! I will have to check out the link for those little black bottles! Thanks!
I love these. The purple one is extra gorgeous 😍 Yesssss, i have the dots over my favourite little trinket tray heart mould 😔 but i still love playing around with this technique. Thank you for sharing your lovely work x
The purple heart 💜 one is lovely!! I wonder about a thin layer of UV cured on top of the area with the drop imprints? It might make it even again. I'm glad doming fixes it, though!! 👍
Maybe, so much to explore with this technique. It can also be the quality of the molds too. Someone else commented they did it but it didn't leave a mark soo...🤔
I'm not sure what brand of UV resin that you use, but I know mine did not do that to my molds, so perhaps it has something to do with the brand of UV resin as well?
That is a bummer about the molds! After your last video I tried this with a little mold that is supposed to be a two-part picture frame from a S&T box a few years ago to try it out - I don't have a coaster mold that would work so this was a test - it did work but I don't see any marks left behind. Maybe because it is a matte surface? I was planning to try with a larger cutting board mold which is glossy...I'll let you know what happens! I love the purple to blue shift on the hearts - perfect combo!
Oooh that's interesting. Maybe it can also be the quality of the silicone...🤔 I definitely want to try doing this technique with only epoxy. I'm hoping that the epoxy won't leave marks on the molds.
Do you wash your molds with sudsy water and a washcloth? That MAY get rid of the marks on the molds. I always wash mine after each use, regardless. I put them in a sink full of soapy water (Dawn dish detergent) and wash them just like dishes.
Did you look at the sides of the molds? I was wondering if mica powered showed up as before. Could you please show us how you domed the edges of the piece. This looks Beautiful.
There was that much mica powder on the sides like the other trays I made. Next time I make something with these molds Ill be sure to show that part but its pretty much the same. You have to carefully put resin on the rims and spread it evenly :)
I wondered if the molds would be damaged from the water droplet effect. Could you put a thin layer of clear resin, either UV or slick first, and then do the water drop design, put mica on it and the dark resin? Would that work and keep the molds clear?
Im not sure just because the mica needs something to grab to. I’ve been thinking about it a bit and I think a layer of resin before the drops may not work since resin is too glossy and the micas won’t stick to it if I dust it on. But I definitely would like to test it :)
What if you paint on a thin layer of UV Resin over the whole thing and cure it. It might make the whole thing one cohesive shade again, instead of the marks being in it. 🤷🏼♀️
I don't know if someone has said this, but why don't you try putting a thin layer of resin clear epoxy resin where you're going to do this technique. if you do this before you do the rim, you can just have the rim go up to where the dome is. I think this might save your molds from getting marked by the UV resin when you use it, because that clear layer of resin is being used as a barrier.

Purple is my favorite!

That apricot color is to die for.
Purple heart 💜 one 🎉
Purple heart!!! That might just be my love for purple, though. Great job!!!
hehe I love purple too💜
I like it. love the colors and the designs were cool. ❤ Lisa
The purple is gorgeous... I love yr videos... U r amazing
BIG THUMBS UP, I really love that purple one the best 👌 👍
Img I love these love you mica colours too ❤❤❤❤
Purple is Awesome, Thank You😊
The one with the the circles and diamonds looks like a relic from a lost civilization.
Not only did the dome save the project from the imprint of the last design but as good as they looked before the dome they somehow look so many times better with the high shine!
I agree. 😂😁
I find doming really makes the “water effect” stand out more…its as if it magnifies it😍

I am going to try the waterdrop and attempt a UV Flower design with mica powder. Thanks for the inspiration I'm new to resin
purple one
love them thank you!
Purple
Lovely job, the heart tray is my absolute favourite but they are both great.

So fun!
So cute 😍. I love them. ❤️
Love these trays!!!
The purple
These are absolutely gorgeous. I am defo going to try this xx😊
These turned out awesome😊
Thankyou.😊
Those are beautiful. I made bookmarks with the raindrop technique. It left marks, but I always dome them.
I have imprints on some of my molds from this xx
Those turned out pretty. Love the colors. Awesome job.❤❤
Thank-you! :) I'm glad you like them.
Gorgeous. Love the doming that takes out the prior uv dots. Nice to know. Purple one my fav. ❤
I love these. The purple one is extra gorgeous 😍
Yesssss, i have the dots over my favourite little trinket tray heart mould 😔 but i still love playing around with this technique. Thank you for sharing your lovely work x
Aw that's a shame. I hope you can easily replace your mold. I've ruined a couple of my molds and can't rebuy them again which totally sucks lol.
@@JBKonsCreationsAwww, that sucks big time x

Did you try wiping the molds after using them? The imprints may just be that oily residue that uv resin tends to leave behind
this is great can I ask you where you got those great needle bottles and what size they are they are exactly what I need for small design details
How about curing in low heat mode on the lamp? Most lamps have it, usually a 99 second xxx
how do you clean the needle tip bottles
Can this technique be done with regular resin

Love your pieces.
Someone mentioned that if you use the "non" hard type, the regular one, you won't get those spots.
Ooh okay. I’ll definitely try it with a softer uv resin.
Have you written names on the inside with the uv resin? I think that would be cool too!
Do you wash your molds with sudsy water and a washcloth? That MAY get rid of the marks on the molds. I always wash mine after each use, regardless. I put them in a sink full of soapy water (Dawn dish detergent) and wash them just like dishes.
I can try that. I don’t wash my molds unless I really need to. Ive heard it degrades them…🤔 I normally use a piece of sticky tape to clean them.
Did you look at the sides of the molds? I was wondering if mica powered showed up as before. Could you please show us how you domed the edges of the piece. This looks Beautiful.

@@JBKonsCreations Thank you for the reply, I really wanna make these they're so beautiful.
Mine did the same on two moulds 😞
thats a shame. Its such a cool technique.😩

Writing names would be cool!! Personalized. 😊
@@JBKonsCreations yap that's what I was thinking to .
*omg
No deary, that isn't what flash curing is.
Your not supposed to put UV resin directly on mold, destroys them, use it on top of epoxy resin.
