You really made me chuckle today when you said, 'of course make a mess.' Making a mess is something I seem to do with every thing I create, it's obligatory I swear, lol. Love those beads in those dishes, they really gave them a very different and interesting look. Have a great weekend Steve.
One of the first things you learn in art school is to embrace the mess. Halfway thru my first semester, I'd be heading out of drawing to my design class with charcoal on my face.
I think it’s because that shells are upside down so hems go to top of the shell whereas the hands are normal so jams go to the bottom and don’t show as well
We like messy Steve! Makes us not feel like the Lone Ranger! 😁 It's a requirement, apparently, for many of us to make messes. LOTS of them, especially with my clothes. *sigh* "Flicky Wicky! 😂😆😅 LOVE, LOVE all these soap dishes, Steve! 😊💕😍
I won't say it. ... but it's my older brother's name! And, you should make sun catchers with that mix. Make the decorative parts to a wind chime set, then add metal chimes. The shells are so pretty when you held them up!
Hi, I used salt in resin a few years ago and don't recommend it. It's beautiful but after some time in a humid environment (sth about one year in the garage) salt crystals grow and destroy my resin art. Btw the plastic crystals for resin are really cool :3
Yeah, salt isn't really a good crafting material. I tried the watercolor and salt trick, and even though it looked gorgeous it was so delicate that just picking it up ruined it.
I feel like if that's a problem, the easiest solution would be to paint a layer of clear on top, to completely seal the salt within the resin and make sure none of it was able to react with the humidity in the air
If you don't want your salt crystals doing weird things after a few months, you need to seal the finished product so no salt is exposed to the elements! Otherwise your salt will respond to moisture in the air.
Oh Steve you naughty boy give it a flicky... lol. I absolutely Love the seashell dishes! They almost have a lace pattern to them don't they. Or at least from the camera they do. Absolutely 💯 love those ❤
Hey Steve, Try using alcohol inks to dye your crystals ahead of time, let them dry, and then put them in resin. Just a thought. I'd love the pink hand to put my rings on when I'm too swollen to wear them. It's so cute❣️
❤❤ I am about to buy a new soap dish but it's going to be difficalt now that I've seen your lovely ones. Thank you for an interesting and fun video. M in USA
I added chunky Himalayan seat salt into 3d mold because I thought it resembled rose quartz. Months later at an outdoor event, someone pointed out a small 3d bear with whitish powder on it t that resembled salt. Sure enough. Salt was coming out of that bear all over. I wiped him off and the next day there was more. I've never tried epsom salt.
If you are making a lot of this stuff, it's worth investing in a small vacuum chamber. You can put the mixing bowls in before you pour that will remove 90% of the bubbles, and then go again once it's in the moulds. It only takes a few minutes and it makes a big difference.
Bravo! These soap dishes are beautiful! Where the crystlals shown through, it gave the resin a lacey-looking texture. I know these are meant to be dishes, but you could easily adapt the mixture with the crystals, add a small hole to the hardened resin, and create some lovely sun-catchers ☺
You are no doubt my favorite resin artist! I purchased the moulds, crystals & Epsom salts. I found some gemmy things too at Family Dollar. I would send pics but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. It appears to have separated. Kewl look but why....
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts Fire Mountain Gems and Beads sell them, but to get small enough ones for these size molds you may need to get the 4mm beads or seed beads. The rivolis would probably work great in your skull molds. They'd be Crystal Skulls... literally! 😄
OMG Im in tears of laughter - first time watching you and Im thoroughly enjoying it..... Flippy or Flicky? either way, this South Aussie has spent enough time around Shearing Sheds, Cattle Yards and folk with interesting minds that I could come up with a load of stuff hahahaha oh and wow, I was already subscribed!!!! Oh well - Im back :D
I did some epsom salt resin ages ago when I first saw it on your channel, and unfortunately it looks terrible now because the crystals look like they've shrunk and dried out into little white bits. Sad times. :(
oy oy naughty naughty Steve! hahaha what a great upload! Your wonderful humour as well as a really gorgeous project, perfect combo! I think the shells worked better because they were thinner casts, they reminded me of frost! Absolutely perfect aesthetic for bathroom/hygiene products, really great thinking there, love to see you do more of this, mixing other colours and in other thinner moulds that you have 💜 AMAZING to see your kit is in stock! Only 9 left at the time of posting, it is SUCH a good kit, I am not surprised that it keeps selling out! It's my birthday next week, so I'm really looking forward to treating myself to a few new materials to try out, inspired by your awesome content! Thanks Steve, take care! 💜🌈✨
You can remove the reflective backs of those gems, it's a lot of work though. I've laid out sandpaper and put one under each finger, then you have to go up a grit and repeat.
If you get a mold to make your own “gems” and make them from the color you are working with, or, accent/contrast colors, you can not only have “empty” spots, but have ones that match the theme, or even new accents like gems in a host stone
The bowls are never available. Been clicking on the link below for months now and it just keeps saying temporarily unavailable. Any idea when it will be available for uk viewrs.
Oh boy Steve....don't you go getting in trouble with those cute little catch phrases like Flicky Dicky 😂😂😂 You always make me laugh😂😂😂 Those little soap dishes are cute, love the hands too!!

That tickled me too 😂

It reminds me of the quote from the book “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”: If it’s messy, eat it over the sink.
I think it’s because that shells are upside down so hems go to top of the shell whereas the hands are normal so jams go to the bottom and don’t show as well

Steve, so pretty. The shells look like lace or sheer fabric. Thanks for showing us the technique.

im making full keycap sets for keyboards out of resin and your an inspiration and teach me so much ...thank you
Neat. My mum loves seashells and soap trays, I'll have to make one for her.
Love your voice and that personality! Can't wait to go through the rest of your content!
That was really interesting. I've never done anything like this, but you made it look easy! Thank you sir for sharing this!
Those little resin hands would make great spoon rests.
These are absolutely gorgeous! Great job! Brilliant on the Crystal's and Epsom salts! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work!❤
Love those totally expert directions, like skidgie widgiy😂😅😂thanks for the late night chuckle 🎉🎉🎉
It was "tricky flickie" you were looking for, Steve. Thanks again for another great tutorial. Really enjoy your content.
Those turned out really well. Wonder if flower petals would work in a mold like that

What should be used for sealing? Total newbie here. Have never tried resin before
@@staciebeauchemin7595 I'd use another layer of resin.

I was thinking *Flicky wicky* They all came out gorgeous LOVEd the look !!!
I just got into resin and so far I'm Loving it. Can't wait to get to do another pour.
"A bit of flicky clicky" 😅😅😅 L❤ve the little hand soap dish!!
Very pretty! I got a blob of uv resin on my clothes it hardened on the fabric. Any thoughts on hoe to get it off with out ruining the cloth?
that pattern created from salt and gems, it really reminds me of lace for some reason ^^ nice effect
I love all your creations. ❤

oh cool! I was concerned that the gems were a bit to big for the narrow moulds, but it worked brilliantly!
Flickey chickey .love your presentation. Such fun.
That is a really cool effect. Love it.

question: what happens when you hit one of these with water? you'll probably get voids from the salt that touches the surface washing out.
Flickey Mickey. Absolutely love these!!

Flicky Tricky, little bubbles? 😊 Great ideas as always, thank you.
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
After watching your video with the epsom salts and sand I made a soap dish with Epsom salts. I was thrill d with the results. Thank you 😊
Hello! Maybe try colored crystals for the two toned effect. You should have the spaces you wanted and added color. Great video! Thanks! 😁
Will the salt disolve when wet soap sits on it? Help me understand the reason for the salt
I think I had only watched about 2 minutes of this video before I knew that I would become your new sub💓
You are soo funny. Great ideas, loved the outcome.
Re the bubbles... Concrete workers use vibration to float the bubbles.. find something to vibrate your filled molds.
Steve, are the crystals glass or plastic? Thx! Have you tried to color gems?
😂😂😂😂😂😂i love how you do youre things and they all very beautiful 😘😘

I wonder how swavorsky crystals would look like in resin. Would they sparkle as much? I have embedded some in molten glass and they were very pretty.
I haven't tried textpert resin. I may try it based on your recommendation. I love your videos, thank you
Thanks Steve!!
Wow I love them
The gems make it look lacy
Brilliant.
Those came out Beautiful ❤❤❤❤
Family gets charged double!! 😂😂
I know EXACTLY what you were thinking with flicky whatsit!!😊
Very cool. 😍
Half TBE time the use up resin pieces are my favorite
Even tho someone already said it flicky, wicky is good.
What do you use to clean those containers you mixed the resin in?
