To me this is Sarah at her best. Hair down, barefoot, playing her guitar, singing about things greater than herself. She is one of the most beautiful humans on the planet.
2024 the song still describes what's going on in the world 😢😢😢 My heart breaks when it comes to my knowing that many children are dying from starvation by man-made war. Even they could make it, they wouldn't be able to live a full fledged lives Shame on you whoever support the weapon industry just for your wellbeing while millions dying
Greg Soulos if that's what you really believe. the people who believe change is possible are the ones who help make it happen. we waste enough food yearly to feed the world many times over

My teacher showed my class this video the other day, and it really got to all of us, made us think. Thank you for opening peoples eyes to the reality of our world.
We need more videos of just singers singing and more importantly the money that would have been spent going to people with real need. Notice this didn’t really start a trend unfortunately! God bless her for this song and her love and generosity and common sense!
But all those who work in the industry need to make a living. Electricians, grips, editing staff, studio techs, caterers, etc..--they're either working or will need aid themselves. I agree in general with what this video is promoting--and we all need to do our part--but my challenge is that those who, in the long run, profit the most from these projects might be in a better position to send more aid. That as opposed to taking funds from folks living paycheck to paycheck. I'm not saying this of Ms McLachlan, but there are those executives, sports figures, and entertainers who sit on riches and things which are much more disposable.
I love how Sarah uses her music to bring awareness and shed light to the fact that people can do their part to help. She's an advocate for all. Such a beautiful soul and voice. We need more artists like her..
This video is a rude awakening for us all. I was sharing with my husband how great this world really could be if we only would let go of all greed and hatred we see everywhere. I was sharing with him how easy it is to criticize those who are wealthy and ask why can't they help out? But we forget that most of us have way more than what we need. Material things truly don't bring real happiness and these people that live in the worst living conditions truly are way more grateful and happier than most of us. Thank you Sarah for this video it makes me cry every time.
couldn't have said it better... Blame is such a pointless act... the 'blame' begins with ALL us looking at the mirror and taking a good hard look at our own selves. Until then, I am sorry to say, not much will change. Although I am an eternal optimist at heart forever, it will come as more people understand this deeply. Especially us in the 'west'...we have anything and everything we could ever need or want, we point fingers at the 'rich' for their lavish lifestyles (i'm from a lower mid class, educated) and I could care less if wealthy people wish to live their lives how they want to, I never would choose that lifestyle, that's a choice....that is NOT what this is about in my humble opinion. I honestly believe, many of us have everything at our disposal, we are at a point where we don't know what to do NEXT....we are getting bored w the same old cycles of routines, restless, our hearts are screaming for change to help to give meaning to our lives....a Spiritual meaning that was LOST in this materialistic era we created, which I believe was necessary, everything is at is should be...NOW is the time to find our was TOGETHER to EVOLVE to the next level.....not talking of religion, and not saying go away with it, I'm not a radical person....I'm speaking of a deeper meaning to What the heck are we TRULY HERE ON THIS GREAT EARTH TO DO? sit and waste away, not helping out fellow brothers and sisters? I think, no I KNOW NOT. It's a time to be understanding, to listen to others who may not agree and be okay with that, stop trying to be 'right' all the time and accept others are diffferent and have different views and beliefs and that OKAY TOO... LOVE THEM ANYWAY! I don't know where you live, but it was beautiful to see these conversations are being had...brought a smile to my heart... :)
In the early 90s, I worked at a record store. Her second album had come out, and she was on tour, and playing in town (New Orleans) that night. She came to my district manager's office and sang two songs for us (about 10 or 12 people), sitting on a chair. She mentioned that she had just woke up shortly before she came, and that she was slightly hung over. And she sounded exactly this good.
Naah Haan, what do you mean thanks for killing Muslim? Those peps are muslims too on the video, we are unity except you, why they didnt kill you first?
15 years later, still thinking about the things we can do to make this world a better place. This song never age no matter what year it's in. The message in her song is still strong, still relevant. Love her so much.

If this song and its video (in addition to its being so beautiful) doesn’t change the way you see the world, just keep watching and listening. It will. Sarah you are a gift to us. Thank you.
sarah, i love you! i saw you live in mountain view winery in 2022! you were amazing! I'm with Stanford Medicine and trying to do your work in Africa and Cambodia. If i can just have a photo with you soon, we can go far with this world's work. Thanks Sarah! I hope to hear back from you. Thank you
Sarah is such an inspiration and this video is a clear reason why! 100% back up what she stands for. Wholesome voice, lyrics and compositions. Love how her music feels like home (in a world gone blind, home is a state of being scarcely found). Thank you!
So many in the world live without or with much less than what most of us take for granted daily. Watching the video reminds us how giving a little can mean so much for some.
My heart brakes when I see children living on the street like that. Thank you for giving money to the people that need it instead of production and other bullshit. God bless
"The more we take, the less we become" - One of the most meaningful and beautiful videos I have ever seen. I teared up when I first saw this 15 years ago. Still gives me goosebumps. Thank you Sarah
I tear up everytime I watch this . What the fuck are we doing to this most precious gift , our planet. Humans are not intelligent, we are stupid and arrogant ( or some of us are ) . Trouble is a small minority are fucking it up for the rest of us and our future. God help us ( unfortunately I don't believe )
I know what you mean, recently a very close friend of mine passed away, all i do is hear her songs cause, there are people who have a life much worse and harder then I do.
My husband was in the navy and his ship went to Africa for 7 months and did a humanitarian tour. Rebuilding schools, medical buildings and all sorts of other things. Teaching children, teaching their navy how to rebuild their ships. They took medical supplies over as well as food. They even went to do Katrina Relief and Haiti Relief.
Saw Sarah live in The Austin City Limits venue. Her voice was clear, pure, and strong. Having been to too many concerts to count, this one was the best ever, hands down.
I think about this song every time there's another terror attack or catastrophe in the world. Every time I listen, it reminds me that I could and should be doing more to help make this world a better place to live :/
concentrate on what causes terrorism not the end point i.e the act of violence. Lets compare - global deaths from terrorism 0.06% globally - poverty ? Hey lets just take one big killer from poverty - Diarrhea 3% - bad water, low nutrient food etc. If you add up all the diseases and death from poverty its much, much higher. Cure the problem not the outcome. ourworldindata.org/is-it-fair-to-compare-terrorism-and-disaster-with-other-causes-of-death
I must've watched this video a hundred times. And it still puts a lump in my throat, how vast the suffering of people in this world. Too many are apathetic and don't want to hear about it. I have news for those people; these problems aren't going away and in fact are getting worse in many places. And even if you do not witness it where you are, it can affect you too someday because oppression breeds hatred and violence.
Every time I hear this I cried and my heart aches for our humanity. It's more than I can handle bringing to the table what I am able. Volunteer to give back to my community. Wishing my fellow sisters and brothers Peace, Harmony and Love!
Every time I watch this video, I am reminded how blessed I am and how selfish I've been when I get depressed about the many things I still don't have. There are many billions more who are in dire need more than me and I can help.
Brilliant message of her against the high cost that most of artists makes their videos instead of help countries in extreme porverty and suffering wars
I listen to this song every time the world gets crazy. It's been more and more often lately. Beautiful song and I love how informative the video is. I wish it could go viral at a time like this
Sarah has been one of my favorite since 2001-- for me she has made a big difference!! in music and belief that people who make it help out others as it should be as success is based on those who help you up and continues when you help others!!
Beautiful, deep and hearttaking lyrics Sarah! Hearts are worn in these dark ages You're not alone in this story's pages The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying And I'll try to hold it in, yeah, I'll try to hold it in The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle Tap into the water, try to bring my share Try to bring more, more than I can handle Bring it to the table, bring what I am able I watch the heavens but I find no calling Something I can do to change what's coming Stay close to me while the sky is falling I don't wanna be left alone, don't wanna be alone The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle Tap into the water, try to bring my share Try to bring more, more than I can handle Bring it to the table, bring what I am able Hearts break, hearts mend Love still hurts Visions clash, planes crash Still there's talk of Saving souls, still the cold Is closing in on us We part the veil on our killer sun Stray from the straight line on this short run The more we take the less we become The fortune of one man means less for some The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle Tap into the water, try to bring my share Try to bring more, more than I can handle Bring it to the table, bring what I am able The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle Tap into the water, try to bring my share Try to bring more, more than I can handle Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
My all time fav of her music! Those 67 people who disliked the video...what was the problem? Frankly she's just making people aware of the reality before its to late. Lets help people!!!
Mick Funny Do you not realize that Trump's base consists of conservative evangelicals, which tend to be the most generous in charitable donations? Or that his base fights for the lives of unborn children while the left seeks to justify murdering them all in the name of "choice" and "convenience"? How about the base's desire to see less illegal immigration i.e. less human trafficking, less drug mules, less child trafficking? Just because you have differing political opinions doesn't mean everyone else is wrong. What is ironic though is that the people that are setting the world on fire are those that, when they see a beautiful song, their first thought is to make a vitriolic political statement. Ironic indeed
It's not the video that's making you feel powerless, it's your idea of what is powerful & what is not. Only you can become you, something even Sarah McLachlan could never do.
To me this is Sarah at her best. Hair down, barefoot, playing her guitar, singing about things greater than herself. She is one of the most beautiful humans on the planet.
Yes, she is :)
Kelly Eggers yes !!!!
Kelly Eggers Amen!

The video might have cost $150k but the song is priceless. Wonderful.
It's from her Afterglow album from 2003. The video was released in 2004. It's now 20 years old and completely relevant. Not to mention BRILLIANT!!!
Album now is 21 years old and this song 20 years old. When the album came out in 2003, I was 21 years old, another 21 years now I am 42.
Who cries every single time they listen to this?
Don't be embarrassed...
CELEBRATE THE TEARS!!
Embrace the face we have hearts, and the song touches not only the heart, but the soul as well. I'm right there with you my friend.
I cry every time and I'm not ashamed
Reading this comment my tears fell.... we cry together! 💓🙏🕯️
The world IS on fire right now and it is more than I can handle 😭Free Palestine ❤🩹
Who would’ve thunk this song would be far more relevant nearly 20 years on?
I did actually. Sarah has so much insight and empathy. She’s a gifted writer and singer plus humanitarian ❤❤❤❤
What’s up with the number 475 when it comes to dislikes for Sarah? On all her songs? Haters suck!
they do
"The more we take, the less we become. The fortune of one, means less for some."....... Such a strong statement!!
Yeah she should be screaming this statement to Hollywood!!!!
don75022 Its amazing the lyrics she writes yet she and I quote said "Writing lyrics is like extracting blood from stone"

Now this is what I'm talking about. Put your money where your mouth is 👄. Brilliant sarah. Your words on fire 🔥
One of my favorites of all times😊😢❤
Who is still watching this and still feeling it in 2024?!
❤
❤
I wonder what 2025 viewers will say 🤔 ?
I definitely am
So beautiful and timeless. I wrote a tribute song myself to raise awareness for what’s going on around the world ❤
This song definitely hits different now.
Agreed
It does. But then again, it should have hit different when whether the crisis is Coronovirus or conflict or some other human tragegdy. :(
i came back here too because it hits so deep now, it's like a song for the millennium
@@radiobebiku lol
Yes
I am so sad tonight, a good friend of mine just passed away from cancer she will be dearly missed, god be with you my sweet love.
This is not just a great song.... it's also a great MESSAGE. And it might be 10+ years old now, but damn that just makes the message hit even harder.
I think the same... the way the world is at this present moment, is terrifying! This song should be listened to, by every single person alive, RIGHT NOW! ❤
Older than ten years
I think the point is, instead of spending the money on just another slick music clip she sent all that money to where it was most needed. It made me cry.
Yeah... a shame the British "royal family" don't understand the sentiments of this. Instead we see the latest addition, American actress Meghan Markle, sashaying around in US$13,000 designer dresses out in Tonga. Oct. 2018, as she and her hubby Prince Harry are on a "royal tour".
British royal family are another puppet show of moral humans who have no life skills learned
the first time I watched this, I thought it was someone criticizing her. The first part throws you off, but if you don't watch the end, which many may not, you'll end up thinking she is being criticized for spending money on her videos and yet singing about helping people. I LOVE the song, but I wish that first text frame was not there.
What a gift to the world.
I am so moved by Sarah Maclachlan's sensitivity to humanity and her artistry in expressing it...I think that is the highest gift anyone can have. It's very hard to watch this and not tear up. Even though I'm a first generation of Southeast Asian descent and grew up in the U.S., I still feel very torn between the capitalistic culture here and the humanitarian needs of the world...

Sarah is great. She made my dog cry.

This is the best video I have ever seen. It should be shown in all US schools.
2022, and the world keeps getting crazier.
How could you not love this woman?
God bless her soul and her music.
I love how Sarah uses her music to bring awareness and shed light to the fact that people can do their part to help. She's an advocate for all. Such a beautiful soul and voice. We need more artists like her..
There are only 2 who can soothe with their voices. Eva Cassidy and Sarah.
From a huge Sarah fan here you need to add ELizabeth Fraser :)

I remember watching this on VH1s Sunday morning countdown in 2003 when I was 12. I’m 33 now and it’s stuck with me til now.
This song is perfect for 2020. If your reading this hang in there!
Who is here wacthing America burning with hate senseless violence and rioting needing this song for healing..
Sadly America is not the only nation burning…
Imagine if Sarah was never able to develop her talents and she became a lawyer or something else. Where would we be without her beautiful voice?
Sometimes it really does feel like the world is on fire. (In some places, it really is!)
Amazing song and relevant today, this world is on fire and crazier than ever
Such wholesome music, rare these days!
Is that really her unadulterated voice?? My God, what a gift. It gives me chills.
I've seen her perform seven times, so unless she's been lip-syncing to the same recording, it really IS her unadulterated voice.

Hearts are worn in these dark ages
You're not alone in this story's pages
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And I'll try to hold it in, yeah I'll try to hold it in
The world is on fire, it's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water, try to bring my share
I'll try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change what's comin'
Stay close to me while the sky is falling
I don't wanna be left alone, don't wanna be alone
The world is on fire, it's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water, try to bring my share
I'll try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
Hearts break, hearts mend, love still hurts
Visions clash, planes crash, still there's talk of
Saving souls, still the cold is closing in on us
We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take, the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some
🎸🎸
The world is on fire, it's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water, try to bring my share
I'll try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
The world is on fire, it's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water, try to bring my share
I'll try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able

I think about this song every time there's another terror attack or catastrophe in the world. Every time I listen, it reminds me that I could and should be doing more to help make this world a better place to live :/
Wonderfully said. Keep doing what you can n it may mean so much to someone.
concentrate on what causes terrorism not the end point i.e the act of violence.
This video needs to be remade for America✔️I can tell Sarah has a beautiful 💜😳😏✍️
Preface: Sarah is far and away my favorite Canadian artist. Her devotion to those less fortunate is second to none.
Every time I hear this I cried and my heart aches for our humanity. It's more than I can handle bringing to the table what I am able. Volunteer to give back to my community. Wishing my fellow sisters and brothers Peace, Harmony and Love!
Listening to this on repeat here in Northern California as ash rains down from surreal orange skies.
Here in 2020 - fark this song is relevant more than ever.
This remains the greatest music video of all time.
I wish it could go viral at a time like this
More appropriate now in 2023 then ever before. :(
Sarah has been one of my favorite since 2001-- for me she has made a big difference!! in music and belief that people who make it help out others as it should be as success is based on those who help you up and continues when you help others!!
Beautiful, deep and hearttaking lyrics Sarah!
Hearts are worn in these dark ages
You're not alone in this story's pages
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And I'll try to hold it in, yeah, I'll try to hold it in
The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle
Tap into the water, try to bring my share
Try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change what's coming
Stay close to me while the sky is falling
I don't wanna be left alone, don't wanna be alone
The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle
Tap into the water, try to bring my share
Try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
Hearts break, hearts mend
Love still hurts
Visions clash, planes crash
Still there's talk of
Saving souls, still the cold
Is closing in on us
We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some
The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle
Tap into the water, try to bring my share
Try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
The world's on fire, it's more than I can handle
Tap into the water, try to bring my share
Try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table, bring what I am able
My all time fav of her music! Those 67 people who disliked the video...what was the problem? Frankly she's just making people aware of the reality before its to late. Lets help people!!!
This is exactly how i feel right now. What happened to love? Sad sad time..
The world according to Sarah ♥️♥️♥️♥️😍😍😍😍
What a beautiful, kind and amazing song!
Delusional Fairy said no Trump voter ever
Such an appropriate song right now at this moment in our history. But we will Triumph! 🙏🙏🏽🙏🏿✝️🇺🇸
Definitely her best song.
