i missed it so much i raised my kids the same way.... amazing how they're confident and smart and know how to do more than survive... they thrive. taught them how to cook and even drive actual cars. and yet they and their friends still ride bikes (with no electric motors) all through town, they explore abandoned places, and will talk to anyone. they even have their own side hustles (legal and above the table) meanwhile kids their age can't order cheeseburgers without having a panic attack.
This song reminds me of my mom. She passed away 3 years ago at 60. She had this CD in her car on repeat when I was a kid. I was born in 1982 growing up in a time with no cell phones or excelled technology all we had was the excitement of our favorite song on the radio. We played until the street lights came on, we faught after school, and some of us like the generations before went off to war. Music like this makes me feel at 41 I am still trying to find my personal mystery which will hopefully let my family understand why I still act like a 90s kid.
I'd be honored if some fans of mid/late 90s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ARMS OF AN ANGEL by Sarah McLachlan, NAME by the GooGoo Dolls, and "1979" by the Smashing Pumpkins in tribute to 3 great standards of the era. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace out and stay safe in the '020s.
The first time I heard this song in 1997 I had just come home from work, it was around midnight and I was tired as heck so I readied myself to go to bed. As I was lying down I decided to put on my headphones and turned my walkman on to listen to music before closing my eyes and Building a mystery came on and I heard it all the way through and I was like wow, suddenly all that tiredness disappeared and I fell asleep humming this song and I still had it on my mind when I woke up the next day. Fellas this is the kind of music the 90's produced and Sarah Mc Lauglin, well no need to tell you the impact she had in all of us. G-d bless all who lived thru the nineties.
If you grew up in this era, Sarah McLachlan and this song were a defining part of the time and women's music. All her contemporaries were phenomenally talented too. This song takes me back to a simpler, better time. I even bought the single. When I hear this I'm instantly a teenager again.

Sarah, I'm not sure you understand how much this song means to me. I lost my Father, who was my whole world, about a year and a half ago. This song describes him perfectly and has now become our connection between worlds. Whenever I hear this song, and I hear it often now, I know he is right there next to me; helping me and guiding me. I cannot thank you enough for making this possible.
Ashley, my sincerest condolences on losing your father. I lost my closest friend and mentor Kurt Wagner, on the 31st of January, 2015. Ironically, that's the same date as my brother's wedding anniversary. My closest friend Kurt Wagner dedicated 30-plus years as a decorated US Federal Marshal under US President Ronald Reagan. He truly served and protected the public from multiple criminals who broke the law. He was a true hero and gentleman that passed away in Bradenton, Florida too soon. Just completely crashed and broke down listening to this. Almost thirty years since I suddenly lost my soul mate in a crash just a mile from my home, on his way home from a week long working a new job out of state. It’s been sooo very long, lonesome and I miss him, his love for me. To live with with what feels like half your heart and soul lost is devastating. I was robbed of the best years that were so youthful, innocent and free by death. But for the grace of God, I soldier on.
This was the music video that spawned my crush for Sarah McLachlan. Everything was stunning, her voice, the lyrics, her eyes, her expressions.....25 years sgo.
I always liked this song, young woman in my 20's, now seeing the video. Didnt really take on the lyrics. Loved all Sarah's song, but didnt realise how dang dark this song was.
I wouldn't say she's underrated. She's probably one of the most prolific Canadian female musicians out there, even after all these years. Lilith Fair, multiple Juno awards, philanthropic endeavors, the works.
crazyrabbits People think anyone who isn't plastered all over the internet or magazines is underrated by the general public. Sarah had and has an extremely successful career and without a doubt is madly respected. And the only reason she isn't all over magazines/internet is cause she doesn't want to be. Folks have their PR and their money to make that happen.

One of my top 5 songs of all time and this album is one of my top 3, LOVE her!!! The entire album is full of great music from start to finish.
I’m going to see her tomorrow here in Houston. So excited
I saw her Sunday (9 Feb) on her last stop in Texas. Still sounds as beautiful as ever.
For me this song shall always remind me of 1996 - 1997! And no Sarah's songs never grow old.
Yes me too! Along with Sweet Surrender.
This song made me feel like magic is real ✨️ ✨️ ✨️
@marvinsegura7307 Sarah McLachlan Building A Mystery is one of my favorite song

@brandonmoore7497 it is my one and only song that makes me feel alive ✨️
Sarah McLachlan makes music and magic
I was born in 1982 growing up in a time with no cell phones or excelled technology all we had was the excitement of our favorite song on the radio. We played until the street lights came on, we faught after school, and some of us like the generations before went off to war. Music like this makes me feel at 41 I am still trying to find my personal mystery which will hopefully let my family understand why I still act like a 90s kid.
Turn your hat around straight bro
Sarah McLachlan is one of the 90's best artists! I love her voice and beauty!
". ..and the vampires rooaaammmmm"
Yeah she's great! I wish i would have appreciated her more when she was around!
Oh I'm calling cheaters you hear me jolev

0:53 "Where you sleep with voodoo do-LLS"
The voice cracks pierce my soul....in a good way.
Paula Cole, Fiona Apple, Meredith Brooks, Alanis…I could go on.
So much talent.
So true.. I closed my eyes n as a teenager magically reached my bedroom with mtv playing this soulful song
Alanis morset, jewel and Sarah are greats. GWEN was too just a little different vibe.
This is one of Sarah Mclachlan's best songs I love it.
I'd be honored if some fans of melancholic 90s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ARMS OF AN ANGEL by Sarah McLachlan, LONG DECEMBER by the Counting Crows, and Mmm Mmm Mmm by the CRASH TEST DUMMIES on my YT channel in tribute to 3 standards of the era. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace out.
Kendell Machelan and the of the lucky
You have good taste, my friend. I am in complete agreement with your assertion.
Good lord, she's so freakin beautiful in this video! Her make-up artist should've won an award that year for capturing the best woman's 90's look right there. Sorry but it's 1:30 am, I miss the 90's and I'm bored. :/
I was thinking the exact same thing...
She's absolutely stunning in this video. Such a beautiful woman. I'm on the same page with you about the make up it's perfection.
Sexy is what she was and is .
Agreed
agree!
Excellent song. So well written, performed, recorded, and produced. An immortal hit that will live on for eons, Sarah. -Rocco

I miss the 90's
This song is for the lady who is with a man who starts to work more than 20hours a week... He is working and he is building a mystery
Kelly 90s are back on youtube songs. Haha
I’m grateful people my age can go back to listen to these artists on here. I missed out on so much music because I did not have an open mind like I do now, but I am glad I have one now. Hope everyone is safe and well. Blessings to you all

The genre of 90s poetry lady alt rock has been slept on for too long. This vibe is coming back full power.
no it isn't
God I hope it's coming back
Another 90's classic ❤️
Woman is soooooo gorgeous! Beautiful voice....miss these days! Music peaked in the 90s.
Imagine coming home to Sarah McLaughlin.
It had another peak around 2005. Good artists like Natasha Bedingfield and Lifehouse. The music scene sure sucks now though. We need another peak.
I would listen to this on cool summer nights in Seattle. Watching trees and stars go by with the windows down. The 90s were magical!
an amazing time...
@@zetasong Sarah Mclachlan Building A Mystery is one of my favorite song

Ditto!
I was newly divorced and broken. My childhood sweetheart had left me for another man. My marriage was over. A new single dad with two small children to raise. This song helped me get through those tough times. Thanks Sarah!

Your better off without that loser!! Hope you find someone worthwhile :)

This song takes me back to 1999, I wish I could go back knowing what I know now.
Kevin Mael dont we all wish that at one point in our lives.
The inflection she makes when she sings "voodo dolls" is chilling, I love it very much. This is a great song. It never lost its magic.
She has a beautiful voice.
Yeah
Always loved this song. The harmonies in the bridge gives me goosebumps.
Same!!! 😊
My god what a beauty!
Ohhhh Oh my... I'd forgotten about that voice. And those lips. Sarah... my crush, forever

A really great song that Sarah sings! I'm not sure if she wrote this song? I heard that she usually does write some of her own songs.☺ A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice......♡ Keep singing Sarah you are a rare gem indeeed!:)
this song draws out a deep feeling of sadness from me
Only fourteen million hits, Killer song, and lord does she look good. ?
This song is and always has been incredible. It’s honestly one of my favorite songs ever; The vocals on this are a thing of surreal beauty.
You right big time. this is a real good song.
Pray for the the Lord before I come to destroy every thing you thought you know
Just picked up her live CD and damn is it good! Very talented singer and writer!
2016 and still such an incredible tune
Timeless song and singer.

Some things never get old. I own Surfacing, Fumbling towards Ecstasy and Mirrorball, they all get regular play
Saaame! Sarah is eternally awesome.
So true. Very emotional.
Oh my god... I haven't listened to Sarah Maclachlan for so many years, I feel like I'm rediscovering part of my soul I'd forgotten about. I can't help crying.
she's incredible! I did a cover of one of Sarah's songs Angel and it would mean a lot if you could listen to it. It's a very special song for me. ua-cam.com/video/2XTQrHdJglo/v-deo.html
She won’t help you discover your soul and the Truth. Cory Varbee channel.
When I was a kid in the 90s, I never appreciated Sarah McLachlan. Now in my thirties, I really appreciate her now. This is a great song. Her vocals, the guitar, everything is great.
Who remembers the CD had hidden features including this video when you stick it in a PC? Revolutionary for 1996 or whenever it was.
YES!!
thornmallow1 Wait WHAT? I have the CD...
Sheryl Crow had the same thing on her CD as well. I thought it was so cool at the time.
what were the hidden features?
Yes!!! I loved that so much. Thanks for the reminder.
1997 was IMO just such a cool fun year to be alive, I'm only 35 but I remember being 11-12 and just riding bikes outside playing street hockey, just whatever we could do to stay busy. 97 had some fuckin incredible music also, heartfelt emotional songs that were deep and we had some if the best artists from this one here to Natalie Imbruglia, Goo goo dolls, ever clear etc. 90s was the best end of discussion,
Sarah, I'm not sure you understand how much this song means to me.
He left behind a daughter and granddaughter in Bradenton, Florida. I really miss him. So I'm truly grateful for this song.
Wow!!! I m blown away! I never saw anything like this to come from these two. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed their previous music, but yes, life is about changing for the better, and gaining wisdom through serving the Lord. Sadly, I've fallen away. I used to serve in church, in music. I just
Just completely crashed and broke down listening to this.
I’m so sorry
@@angelamarie8501 ❤️ Thank you & God bless you.
@SekaCity IDK, why don’t you go ask yourself that in the mirror.

This was the music video that spawned my crush for Sarah McLachlan. Everything was stunning, her voice, the lyrics, her eyes, her expressions.....25 years sgo.
The '90s I knew was great for lovely ladies of everything soft rock and light! Thanks Sarah! 🙏🕯️😃👍
I always liked this song, young woman in my 20's, now seeing the video. Didnt really take on the lyrics. Loved all Sarah's song, but didnt realise how dang dark this song was.
Way underrated...she is so good...
Jefferson Cochran oh, yuck !
BEAUTIFUL..............
She's over 40 now. Ancient for a female performer on youtube. 15 year old girls watch other kids.
I MISS THE 90'S!!!! THE KIDS WILL NEVER KNOW/UNDERSTAND. :(
I wish I lived in the 90’s I hate the nowadays music, I only listen to music like this :(
Il take the 70's & 80's any day over the 90's !
NuclearSteve X be patient in 70 years it will be the 90’s again .
sure they will; teach them!
No it was a pinicile .
Best Sarah Mclachlin song
Was at the grocery store today and this song was playing. I haven’t heard this song in years . I stayed longer at the store so I could hear this gem of a song . Brings back some great memories .
Man, the feelings, remember hearing this song as a little kid but never knew what was the name. Years passed and sunddently this song starts playng in a music channel and as soon as i heard it i started happy crying and started looking for something to write the lyrics on and went to the computer when i got some key frases of the song around 5am, man the little things that make you so happy
Less hafling422 i almost cried reading your comment actually, cause you described exactly what happened to me, but with "one of us" by Joan Osborne and "Sunny came home" of Shawn Colvin, nostalgia is such a powerful thing, this song was also part of my childhood, funny how you can have years without listening to a song, and when you do, all this emotions appear.
Less hafling422 feels great I was a kid in the 90s. when I heard this again it was an instant nostalgic feeling. so many memories and feelings came. it's strange cause this seemed like yesterday
Less hafling422 so wonderful
Less hafling422 it's 5 34 am
Good ones!
I forgot all about Sarah Mclachlan!
She was really good🎶🎶
The 90's were so great. I'm so happy to be a young adult then. So many good feelings and memories.

Memories of 1997 I remember the first time I heard this song was in the early morning at the crack of dawn in November at a stop light getting ready to pull into a jack in the box excited because I wasn’t headed to school, but a five hour trip to San Antonio to compete in a cross country regional meet. I remember when this song came on I just laid back closed my eyes and enjoyed it because it sounded so perfect at the moment without a worry in the world.
Ill never forget these days. My daughter was only 9 months old and we use to play this song and it made her go to sleep at night! Some of the best music in the time
I bought the "Surfacing" CD in 1997 because of this song and it's a great album. I still have it.
One of the best songs I've ever listened to, it has a beautiful feeling❤❤
Sarah's definition of beautiful
This song will forever be on my playlist 💟
The intro to this song, the first 15 seconds or so, is heaven.
I remember this. I was 16. It was such a different emotion. I wish I could go back.
Everyone wants to go back. The emotions in this song are that strong. I want to go back to the mid 1970’s.🎸🎶
I came back from the year 2052 & they're still listening to this song in the future.
The mystery of your heart is not for me to solve or see it’s for someone else than thee.
Her beauty and talent is always a bit of a shock to me whenever I come back to these old videos.
I haven't seen this video in ages, and have heard it just on the radio since at least 2001. Sarah is absolutely beautiful though. This is no face for radio ever!!
Thanks for your love and support
Light. Happy. Magic. Peace. Contentment. This song reminds of me of better times. I pray they will return again.
One of the most iconic voices in music and the single most beautiful woman in music for the past 20 years.
My Sirius radio played this song last week...listened to it a few hundred times since then
Yep, That's what happens when one gets lock-in.
The 90's was a part of our lives we still need, and what we've lost since!!
