@@futurepredictions3396 Ben was not terrible during the regular season. He just choked under pressure on the biggest stage (playoffs) just like Simone Biles.

Showing up, trying your best and failing is more admirable than quitting.
It has nothing to do with quitting. It's about risking severe career ending or life altering injury, for what? She literally had/s such a mental block that she was unable to rate where her body was when it was twisting in mid-air. She's lucky she didn't blow out her knees on the vault she did throw because she was still twisting when she landed blind. She would have (and DID! Her vault score counted towards the team final score and was a factor in their placing) brought her team down if she continued to compete. Recognizing and acknowledging your limits is absolutely admirable.
@@JagMan6201 Two things can be true at the same time: 1. It is dangerous when you are not mentally fit to play such sport. 2. It is also true she quit because she recognizes she's not mentally fit to play this sport. In my opinion we shouldn't blame her for quitting, because objectively speaking, due to her mental condition, whether she quits or not will not help her team to score any better. And on the other hand, we should not call her a hero for quitting, because quitting does not inspire. Hero is a human being who has his/her own flaws just like everyone else, but despite their flaws and failures they come through at the toughest moment, and that's inspiring. Quitting is not a failure, in fact, it is often considered the smarter way in dealing with uncertainties and hardships that we may encounter in life such as divorce, bankruptcy...etc. So in short, being smart is not the same as being heroic and inspiring. If I were in her shoes, I probably would've quitted, but then again, I don't consider I myself a brave person.

It takes great strength to quit when you with a gold medal favorite on the biggest stage in the world. Nobody does that, so Simone biles deserves credit for her bravery.
@@igit_7296 no, I don't think it is. Bravery isn't quitting when you had a bad run because the pressure got to you, especially when you're the team captain. If she knew this was an issue for her before the Olympics, like she said after the fact, it's even more selfish to take another girls spot who was dreaming of doing this and wouldn't leave the team high and dry like that.
The pressure got to her, which happens. I get it. But she didn't quit because she was brave, more than likely she didn't want the fallout of having dropped so far and costing her team for it, and losing all of her endorsements. This was just trying to save face, and people are going to praise her for it. Its crazy.
The brave thing is knowing you're struggling, feeling the pressure, but pushing through and finishing with your team despite all of it. She couldn't take the pressure after everyone started blowing her up. Which, again, is fine, but then she shouldn't have taken a spot on the team in the first place, especially as a captain.
In this interview they say "we didn't know if she would compete". I guarantee a girl at home is heartbroken because her chance was stolen by someone who quit. There are tones of gymnasts in the US who were probably dying to go to the olympics and were physically and mentally ready to compete and she took a spot and decided at the last minute to just sit out and basically be a tag along in a spot meant for competitors, this is shameful in my opinion no matter what you owe it to the people that aren’t in that spot who could be to at least compete.
Honestly, it’s like qualifying for a track final, not scratching your spot for someone else to take, but instead deciding to scratch right before the event leaving your spot vacant. Like, if you’re going to quit, she should have done it at the trials, not after you “fail” a vault in Tokyo.
No one's spot was taken by her
Yeah, but since we're talking reality, no one cares about the lesser talents "dying to be there" in fact, most don't even care about anyone outside of biles so yeah her actions seem wrong but until there's someone remotely close to compete with her then it is just an is what it is kinda thing
This is such a dumb argument. She earned her spot, through her own skill. 🤣 She can do whatever she wants with it, especially if she felt like she was off and might injure herself. No athlete should be pushed to their death, over a stupid medal.

These facts have NOTHING whatsoever to do with whether or not a "critical" comment comes from another Olympian. ANYBODY has the legitimate right to criticize her for quitting AS and WHEN she did! And she SHOULD be harshly criticized for taking away a slot from somebody who WANTED to compete, WOULD have competed, and almost certainly would have contributed to gold for their teammates.

Gymnastics is DANGEROUS you can break your neck you can get paralyzed there's a lot of damage done to the body overall that lasts a lifetime. Most gymnasts are performing with injuries, aches and pains...including Simone!
Now in regards, to the Olympics, if at that time she didn't feel good about it for any reason and clearly she didn't because she did not do the vault she was supposed to do and became unfocused in the air...she shouldn't be chastised or have any kind of backlash for not putting her life on the line.
I'm glad she felt she had a team she could rely on to get the job done that even Simone as great as she is a part of a team it's not just one person and all the girls are great individually.
She should be commended for not being selfish to continue and possibly get hurt and certainly jeopardize the team's chances of even getting a medal. If she went out there and didn't do well then she'd be talked about negatively and or if she got severely hurt people would say why did she put herself and the team at risk why not sit out? It's her life, her health, her body and her career and legacy....and until anyone else goes out there and can do what she has done...have some compassion and back off...give her the same grace and understanding you would want someone to give you.
Unfortunately she couldn't help get a gold...instead the team got silver...unfortunately it was bad timing but it's called mental breakdown from anxiety from the pressure...better safe than a broken neck or a spinal injury. Quitting just like this during the actual competition is not inspirational at all. You trained hard, fought hard, and then you just let your head get to you at the finale? Strange behavior.
