It’s a lot of pressure. The same pressure Gabby felt in 2016, the same pressure Osaka felt, the same pressure Serena feels when she steps on the court. It’s a lot mentally
She cost the team gold
@@E_Crypto I’m going to assume that she knew something was not right with her mentally for the last few days. So would you have rather her stayed on there and maybe had a couple disastrous scores that took the silver away from her teammates. You have no idea what that girls going through none. That’s what gets me in today’s society we have infectious disease experts we have political experts who have never been been a politician we have vaccine expert now we have gymnastics and mental health experts. She didn’t quit she did what she felt was best for her teammates which by the way her teammates made some mistakes if they didn’t make those mistakes they could’ve took the gold without Simone I guess haters will be haters
They don’t have a problem making millions but all of a sudden they have a problem performing and executing. Lame
@@MarioMartinez-tt9ly I take it you’re a gymnastics expert and you know what they have to go through every day and the money she makes is from advertisement which by the way she earned it nobody gave it to her.You don’t know what pressure they go through but yet and still you’re out here rambling on like a fool she has now five medals in the Olympics and won seven world championships yeah what a weak loser she is🤣🤣🤣

💯 agree 👍
As an upper level gymnast I would like to make it clear that I believe Simon made the right choice. I see a lot of people say ooh she didn’t land well on vault that’s why she is quitting how weak and disappointing . No, what happen at vault is she lost her air space awareness when that happens you become in great danger, you don’t know where you are or how many flips you have done. Loosing your air space awareness can create a mental block that you have to break to get it back, which can take months or even a year to break. If she had continued competing she could have got injured very badly. When you are scared, anxious, and lose your air space awareness it becomes dangerous and you are at high risk for fatal injury and you are in no mindset to compete. This is what she meant by mental issues! So if you haven’t ever been an upper level gymnast please kindly shut up and keep your rude comments to yourself :)
agreed!
Thank you so much for posting this information, I hope it helps educate people like me who have no clue what had happened to her.
Well said.....and from your perspective, few know about!
Then she should say that she quit bc of physical problems! Not coming with bullshit of mental illness. Shes just telling kids growing up that is fine to be a quitter
@@AnaLizaMelorto A mental block is not a physical issue. It's a mental issue. Doesn't make it any less dangerous.
Safety over competing 100%. She could’ve gotten seriously injured if she continued to push through and one competition isn’t worth the rest of her career
That's part of being an athlete. You sacrifice your body to achieve in whatever sport you do. I have had over 6 concussions playing football and I don't regret any of it. It's part of being there for your team.
@@ghostinhale5952 good for you and your concussions! You are not everyone nor does everyone want dementia and Parkinson's at 60.
Then why didn't all the other competitors bail out? They could get hurt also. I guess they don't have the pressure of her million $ endorsements and world wide adoration. Yeah, thats what messed her up.
We saw a Lebron James here a superstar who quits on his team and team mates when the going gets rough and the opponent is leading. When the team doctors said you are ok to compete then its your decision.
Exactly. She definitely is not in the form of doing insanely difficult elements, and that could've easily resulted in injuries and probably would have cost her team a medal. She made the right choice.
Your title is MISLEADING. She only withdrew from the TEAM finals. She still has individual comps to go for.
It IS misleading but could turn out to be true. I don't trust yet that all is well with her PHYSICALLY either. I have not felt comfortable with the explanations given to the heavily wrapped ankles SINCE Classics especially since she stated that she would have don the DYP at Trials but was told by coach Landi not to. She said they were bothering BEFORE comps began and I think there was enough evidence at quals to suggest they were indeed. The next couple of days would reveal more I believe. I want what is best for her and if that means withdrawing from all other comps then I fully support and admire her because I KNOW that would be as hard a decision to make (f not more) as the one to withdraw from the team comp. Either way I wish her nothing but the best going forward.
99 percent she won't compete
@@nsuguitan Would be sad but if she thinks that is best then I fully support her. I prefer a medal less HEALTHY Simone than one who may get a medal or two but is broken PHYSICALLY and MENTALLY BROKEN at the end. USAG has had enough of those over the years.

Buckling under pressure, understandable. If she pretended nothing happened and just went out there to compete, it would be disaster for both her as an individual and her team. Knowing when to take a bow and exit is also brave and smart.

Bam 💥 say it for the people on the back
Yes.
If you rewatch her vault routine you can see that she froze in mid air which is extremely dangerous. If she had continued to compete she could’ve injured herself. That’s a lot more important than staying in a competition that will come again in a few years.
Well if you look at her face when she's vaulting her face becomes really distorted, she may be having problems balancing and keeping her equilibrium. It's something definitely wrong it may be due to illness.
I think 14 hour jet lag plus the weight of the team and expectations from the world on your shoulders would make anyone with common sense would sit out.

It's the Olympics.... they're all under incredible pressure to produce and the team leader is always under the most pressure.
She's arguably the best to ever do it. She wasn't injured. She quit. Period.

They should have cancelled these games because arguably the most crucial competitor is missing: the crowd! Ordinary folk provide fuel that can make all the difference to an athlete’s mental state. This games feel so clinical! Athletes need us as much as we need them in dark times.
True even when it comes to the other games, they are so off beat. Even Naomi seems like she was still mentally and emotionally struggling during her match.

I'm curious, maybe a gymnastic fan can answer this. Does quitting or pulling out in the middle of a competition (due to mental issues)happen often? This is the first time I've even heard of this, in any sport.
She’s got a case of SJW if you ask me 😂
I’m a gymnast and at my competition only 1 has pulled out in the middle (most likely because we aren’t at that collage or Olympic level lol) but it was for the same reason mental problems! They where doing a backhandspring on beam missed their hands and they got terrified and had to skip beam but I haven’t seen anyone stop the whole competition. Ask Michael Phelps about Olympic pressure. He was under so much pressure to win 8 gold medals 🥇& the face of 2 Olympics. But he never quit on his team mates. Congratulations to these young women for not cracking under pressure.
Have you read about Phelps' issue? He literally said he didn't want to be alive anymore because of the pressure and the expectations people put on him, he wasn't "him", he was what others wanted him to be, he lost his true goals just to satisfy the public needs. Mental health is real.
She said to her team that they will be fine and just lay it out on the floor and see what happens. Maybe she should be telling herself that.

Ok I see all these comments about "Poor Simone!" but did ANYONE feel this way about Gabby Douglas in 2016? Nope. Hardly anyone. You are the same people who came online and raked that poor girl over the freaking coals. I have been decrying her treatment for YEARS. No one even remembers that poor girl, and if it wasnt for her, Simone would not have had the door open. People made fun of her looks, her hair and her face. It was horrible. People were cruel and negative to Gabby just for fun. Now Simone feels a TINY BIT of the pressure Gabby had to contend with, and she flops like a wet rag. Simone ALWAYS had EVERYONE cheering for her, and she STILL couldnt perform. Gabby had to perform WHILST EVERYONE was hating on her. For no bloody reason. This will teach you all. Dont hate on people for no reason. Gabby suffered, and no one cared. Now Simone is feeling it too. But where is the sympathy for Gabby? How many evil people came on UA-cam and talked about that girl like a dog. Funny now that you have all the sympathy in the world for Simone, yet none for Gabby.
Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history who pushed herself to do things no one else could do! She has 3 gymnastics moves named after her dipshit! She's out there doing vaults that only men attempt and not being given the proper difficulty increase simply because no one else can do it! Get all the way the fuck out of here! Yes Gabby was treated horribly unfair but Gabby didn't have an ounce of performance pressure on her. Everyone was talking about the failure of Jordyn Weiber to make the individual all around. I could understand the comparison if Gabby had a total of 27 gold medals when you add her world champions. I could understand if Gabby was so gifted that the only person that could beat her is herself, if Gabby was the GOAT. But she's not, not even close, but no one is close. Simone is all by herself up there, changing the sport, pushing the limits of human performance, all with the weight of the sport on her shoulders and the trauma of being sexually abused for years on her heart! So have several fucking seats with your bullshit statement!
I have been saying the last few months that every time I watch her elements, she seemed so mentally checked out and hollow behind her eyes. I was shamed and accused of being overly critical/judgmental. I know she’s an amazing athlete and is 100% dedicated and I truly wasn’t trying to give any hate.
If you have watched her over the years like I have, you will notice something seemed “off” during this competition season. I hope she’s doing OK and I can’t wait to watch her again when she comes back!
Nadiya is the goat
It’s one thing if you’re as physically strong as she is, but it’s HUUGE if you can be that self aware, and self confident to take a step back. The team still did an amazing job and took home the silver, which is an amazing accomplishment! She should be very proud of herself! For the people who say she isn’t strong, or she’s faking it, you’re part of the reason people don’t like to talk about mental health. Mental health/anxiety can be debilitating. She could have been hurt physically because of being hurt emotionally. She’s damn strong in my book!❤️
Remember folks, she signed up for this. No one forced her to work her rear end off to get to the Olympics. She absolutely knew the pressures that come with being idolized and being a part of something much bigger than her. To say it is just ok to mentally give in when things don't go your way is cheating our youth. We need to be better at teaching mental toughness. She decided to cheer instead of compete. That absolutely cheated her teammates out of going for the gold. Her teammates didn't sign up to settle for 2nd place. I bet there will be no pressure on Biles to sign up for more commercial deals though. She will miraculously be fine when that pops up.
I’m an advocate for mental health, as I’ve dealt with my own my entire life. I feel that if her mental state has been as bad as she’s stated in prior articles, she should’ve stayed behind this time and allowed someone else who’s worked just as hard to have the opportunity at the Olympics. As you said, no one forced her to go and they were all aware of the rules/guidelines for this year due to the pandemic prior to going. No one would’ve faulted her for missing this years and taking care of herself. Just my opinion

What the heck do you mean by "mental toughness"I advocate for mental health and you're waaaay out of context.
@@desi6592 I think that if you have dealt with mental health in your life can also know and try to understand that what you had is completely different of what she is having. Maybe she thought that was ready and fine to compete and during the competition she developed more struggles. One of my best friends has mental issues and there are some things that triggers her, she can seem to be completely fine and out of the blue, in a matter of seconds or minues, she just breaks, and is so hard to help her and make her come back to a better state. I think that is unfair to said that she robbed someone elses possibility to compete like she did it on purpose, like she wanted to let down every single person that was rooting for her. She made that decision and everyone needs to respect it, she already competed in the previous Olympics and we all need to believe that she made the best decision, for her and for her team
