    I listening this after we already know how Simone suddenly withdrew from Tokyo Olympics suggesting mental issue. Well considering her past experience during sexual abuse, it is hardly surprising: such sore of memories may come back and hunt you. It may take confidence and all the talk about technics of compartmentalization, overcompensation is just probably talk, especially at the moment when your absolute confidence is required. And do we really think that American Olympic committee really revealed all facts?
    She is a survivor and a hero and may be the gold was not worth the pain and risk of, as she put it today, the risk to be carried on stretches.

      6 years to the date she got the twisties and withdrew from competition to the day was when Steve Penny knew sexual abuse was happening and covered the evidence up by asking his buddy at the FBI to drawer or bury the evidence. She has to come back to compete in front of organizations that failed her and the other minors, and in front of judges who penalize her for her skills....something needs to change.

    Simone is truly the greatest gymnast ever to don a leotard. Not only does she have the skills, but she does them extremely clean and has excellent movement. Her vault cannot be denied, she is so strong and her floor is unbeatable. Her beam is only lost if she is shaky because her start values are so far above all the other gymnasts. Her bars are even good, but she doesn't like bars as much, so she does what she can cleanly to take the All Around gold.

    • @lsesternester3231

      Karen Johnson Nadia, and it’s not even close.

    • @karenjohnson5711
      @karenjohnson5711 6 років тому +28

      Nadia won one olympics and no worlds. Simone won and entire quad of gold medals which nobody has ever done since gymnastics became a sport. Nadia was an amazing athlete, but she is definitely not the greatest of all time. Even her first 10.0 had a mistake.

    • @KaraMYoung
      @KaraMYoung 6 років тому +22

      You can't even compare the two. Technically, Simone does the hardest gymnastics more consistently and cleanly than any athlete in the history of the sport and she's been dominant during the hardest era in the history of the sport to be dominant in. Nadia is a legend in her own right for her own reasons but she couldn't actually compete with Simone under the current code and Simone wouldn't have been on anyone's radar in 1976 for numerous reasons. Nadia wasn't nearly as dominant as many of the Soviet athletes were during her time, either. With Simone, it's barely even been close.

    • @lsesternester3231
      @lsesternester3231 6 років тому +2

      Karen Johnson There is an easy way to compare them. After forty years, you know who Nadia is. I seriously doubt Simone will be the the measuring block in the far future. People will still be saying that gymnast x is better than Nadia, because scoring difficulty blah blah blah. Rinse and repeat.

    • @karenjohnson5711
      @karenjohnson5711 6 років тому +13

      Lester, I would never take anything away from Nadia. She was stunning the couple years she competed. She is known for being the one to score the first perfect 10. Simone will be known for being the first to not only 3-peat the World Championships, but to win an entire quad. She also has more medals and more golds than anyone in such a short time competing. There are only two gymnasts who have more medals and they competed at least 3 quads. She will be competing this year and the rest of this quad - she can pass one of them in medals this year. The other is Larissa Latynina who competed in the 50s-60s and Michael Phelps just passed her. She can actually tie Latynina for most golds in an Olys in 2020. She won 4 golds and a bronze in 2016 - Latynina has 9 golds and the bronze Simone got was with a huge mistake. People will be talking about her for all of eternity if she wins the next Olympics (something Nadia could not do).

Sometimes i've seen people greatly emotionally damaged by being adopted. but it seems like sometimes being adopted gives you a unique subconscious drive to be worthy by great accomplishment. Think great swimmer Greg Luganis and (disgraced) biker Lance Armstrong. How wonderful that the tragedy of simon's parents did not destroy her life, and in fact she literally ended up.soaring!

    She is right about flipping feeling like nothing. I tumble, and when I’m in the gym it feels normal and like a habit. That’s why if you flip wrong and develop a bad habit, it feels weird when you do it right. So the only time flipping feels “different” is when you learn something new, or do something differently

    Love both these ladies. Simone is a living Angel. Megyn is a fabulous interviewer. So sorry for these young ladies lost youth and innocence. The near tears at one point just got me. First Anger, Then grief, then just so sad for her and all the ladies.

    It's sad when a trusted person in her life tries to take advantage of a person they are supposed to be looking out for. Really sad.

    I know I kept silent to my mom about me being touched by my stepdad brother when I was very young. What I have learned in life is that you cannot keep silent when someone is doing something bad to you. Speak out, and let somebody know what you are dealing with, so that people cannot get away with evil and you won't have to live in bondage to that person. Children need to be taught that it's not okay for someone to touch you in a wrong way, and to let them know that it is okay to tell.

    "No one likes to think of themselves as a*victim*..." The individual(s) who 'plans' on acting out these abuses, have mental issues already I guess. Knew nothing of any of this incident here. But wow! 175 years in prison for the crime, that's fact of the damage it can do to victims.

      @Josie Violett At least he is not eligible for parole for 40 years, the judge said that if she thought he could be rehabilitated, she would have given him 25 years, but she was sure that he wouldn't so she gave him minimum 40, and up to 175. He was 55 when he was sentenced, so if he lives that long, he'll be 95 by the time he's eligible for parole.
