I'm looking for inspo for my exams as a carpenter and I have so many beautiful designer desks on pinterest, but as soon as I look for someone building a desk on UA-cam it's just a top, simple legs, rgb gamer lights and vibes 😢 You're one of the few who actually build something interesting judging from the thumbnail. Also commenters feel free to help a student out with more desk builds, because my youtube searching skills give me the same boring desk videos 😂 ❤
I don't know how many custom desk videos I have watched at this point, but this to me fits close to all of the criteria I am looking for in a desk and I really like the final product. Great job sir!
I need to build myself a new desk. I have been researching desk build videos for quite a while and I think I am going to base my build off of this one. Great job!
This is cool. I don’t know if I know if I want to dish out the money for hardwood but I’m thinking about making a desktop out of pine and putting it on top of some sit stand desk legs.
Going with hardwood is definitely expensive but it has a lot of benefits over pine or veneer. The main being that it's sturdy as can be and its very resilient to damage. I do have some furniture I built put of pine that has lasted several years of minor abuse that has lasted just a long though. Good luck with your build!
DFR Workshop oh, I would like an irresponsible amount of tools as well. I meant to say a reasonable amount. Nice to watch a video where something beautiful is being made without 10,000 in tools.
You can make a long ripping jig for your circular saw, saves time planing the board and that straight edge is safe for the table saw. fence. Of course ignore this if you bought a jointer already. Wonderful editing, great woodworking knowledge, 22mins flew by fast.!
Lovely desk. You would need something for the monitors though, as they are low and you would get neck pain eventually. Most manufacturers never make monitors with height adjustable stands, unless they are top of the line models. Anyway, walnut is such a beautiful timber.
How much for one shipped to Montana? Excellent work. I love that you didn't use any gaudy stains and just used a clear acrylic to let the wood itself show though.
Amazing work! I made a similar desk and installing the drawer slides was a pain. I bought bottom european slides cause they were cheaper and that was a mistake, ended up buying ball bearing which were much better and easier to install
Beautiful desk!! I love how it turned out. I will be building a new computer desk for myself very soon and I'm really liking the style of this desk. Simple, but elegant. New sub!
Sir, that printer drawer is right sick!!!! Super nice desk, I myself would like an L-shape desk.........with your printer drawer of course. Nice job!!!
I built one like it a few months ago, thanks for uploading the video and sharing that model. Where can I upload photos so you can see how it turned out?
That offset is really cool. I like all the contrast too. Hey wow you have my square. Haven't seen anyone else with that one. That's really cool man nice job.
Love this so much. Gonna make a slightly altered version of it myself. Can I please know, the Walnut you have used, is it regular walnut or dark walnut? Btw, best build I've seen thus far!! Great job.
Great woodworking skill. Love the final product. I would say as a constructive feedback is to maybe provide dimensions in the description or even in the video as caption text. Also products used, for example the pull-out draw accessories (don't know what's the name for it), where did you buy? Anyone this is amazing for 1st video and you have great skills and ideas.
@@DFRWorkshop You can also create pdf with all instructions and dimensions and sell it for 5-10$ to make extra money. I seen many youtubers doing just that. There's a lot of digital product sales solutions that will automate the sale for you.
I've been watching these all week now and I just wanted to point out that the middle board should have been flipped over. Reverse the grain. 🤪 But I do appreciate these videos! You're very inspiring.
Looks great. That's a good idea with the printer, didn't think to do that with mine. I built a trestle style desk with a wedge tenon cross bar. Maybe I'll make one for files and the printer. I have to ask. Why polyacrylic? Ever since I discovered satin wipe-on poly I haven't gone back.
Thanks! I'm not sure honestly, I saw someone use it in one of their videos and decided to try it. It dries faster than poly and doesn't smell so strong. Not sure how the durability compares though.
@@DFRWorkshop I used polyacrylic on a desk I built in a very similar manner to yours. Polyacrylic hasn't taken to time very well. Mine can scratch pretty easy and I have noticed the surface becoming visibly dirty from wrist and forearm skin oils. It hasn't cleaned out. I hope yours will fair a little better than mine. I've only lasted about 3 years.
Good morning, alright, congratulations on the work, I'm from Brazil and we Brazilians love to see the American carpentry. Congratulations, your project was perfect.
You are talented. What type of wood did you use and what was it title? Rough? I am trying to start a desk build myself. I have no past woodwork practice, but i do have 100s of available tools. Idk what wood, screws, or stain i should use.
Thanks! I used white oak and black walnut, no stain just the natural wood. Yes, the white oak was rough cut and I milled it the rest of the way myself. I'd definitely watch some makers like The Wood Whisperer for some excellent info to learn if you're feeling a little intimidated. I learned everything I know deon UA-cam. Good luck to you!
Thank you very much! It wasn't cheap, several hundred dollars in materials. Didn't track the time either, since I only got to spend a few hours every few days on it-- took a couple of months. Sorry I can't be more specific!
@@DFRWorkshop I've been on a tool-restoration / woodworking video binge over the past few days. Can I ask why you went with epoxy? Were you mainly trying to get a clear finish where you could see all the knots in the wood, or were you just trying to fill in the holes so it would have a nice and regular texture when people ran their hands or equipment over it? I've seen in some videos that you can mix sawdust and stuff like epoxy to get a makeshift wood fill to fill in small gaps and seams. The problem that sometimes happens with this is that the different hardness of the resulting materials makes them sand down unevenly. They also might get different results if you put stain or some other "make it look nice" liquid on them at the end. The solution I've seen in at least one video is to mix the sawdust with something like wood glue, which would avoid some of the earlier stated problems that might happen with epoxy. (I don't know a lot about the various liquids used in woodworking, and I don't know where to start learning. A suggestion for where I might find a breakdown would be appreciated.) Putting the printer inside a drawer is also a brilliant idea. They always seem to get so dusty when they're left out in the open.
