My NEXT purchase!!! I've recently heard the S 812 six pack. Words can't describe. I'm only going to do two. Can not wait!!! Just bought my first Rel to replace an SVS 20-39 pci sub. Impressed. I'm a music guy. My system is 50% music / 50% theater. The musical S 812 is gonna replace the rest of my SVS subs.
The 6-pack line array is very impressive sounding, though starting with a stereo pair is an excellent option. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about setting up or tuning your stereo pair of subwoofers.
For those of us who want something a bit more discreet in our living area, a matt black finish would be very welcome! I know one or two of your other subs do have a matt finish, but not at this spec level.
Our Serie HT models certainly have a matte finish, rather than the high gloss. Thank you for the feedback though, we will definitely consider it with future models.
Hey John and Rel, I am entertaining a S/812; however, physical and spousal constraints cause there to be a small overlap between the Rel driver and the back of the front left speaker when the Rel is positioned at a 45 degree angle in the front corner of the room. Will this overlap cause a degradation in sound quality? If yes, would it be better to face the Rel straight at the back of the room so there is no overlap?
Thank you for reaching out. Based on your description this should be fine, though when you have a chance please write in to contactus@rel.net with a couple quick pictures showing the positioning of your main loudspeakers and the subwoofer and our team will be happy to discuss further and in greater detail.
Musically how would a stacked pair of these compare to a 212/SX? Seems like a very similar configuration? I am looking to just fill in the bottom end of my pair of LaScala II. They just don’t have that ultra low octave range.
The 212/SX is capable of delivering performance close to that of an S/812 line array, though with the line array you will be able to independently tune each subwoofer in the stack, resulting in improved blending with your main loudspeakers. If you have any questions regarding which subwoofers will be the best choice for pairing with your Klipsch LaScalas, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to help.
Dude did you ever sub up? I just got a 212/SX for my AL5s. REL recommended this model after discussing my room. I had resigned myself to no low bass and told myself I was good with it. But now ...mama mia
Hello REL would your subwoofers work with a pair of KEF LS50 wireless ? They don't have hight level connection only LFE output, I'm not into home theatre
Our subwoofers can connect and pair very well with KEF LS50 wireless speakers. For these speakers, we recommend connecting the subwoofer output of the speakers to the low level input on the REL. Another video from our channel goes into further detail regarding this connection method: ua-cam.com/video/5Lqrrvh64lg/v-deo.html
Will the S/812 be a staple in the REL line up in the future? I have just bought two of them and wondered if down the track when I want to add another two and then further on add my final two will differences in possible new models make that prohibitive to adding slightly newer models or are they elementarily the same?
Thank you for reaching out, and congratulations on your new REL subwoofers! At this time we do not have any plans to replace or update the current Serie S models in our lineup. When stacking subwoofers to form a line array setup it is important to use the same matching model for each unit, meaning that as long as you use S/812s for the remaining subwoofers then they will perform perfectly with your current pair of S/812.
@@RELAcoustics And when running a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 where the RCA outs go to the S/812's .1/LFE channel on the bottom sub, how do I connect the middle and top subs, so that the Lyngdorf can measure each 3 subs as a whole? What would be the connections and crossovers from the bottom sub to each subsequent one?
@@cr5721 Each S/812 has RCA input and output jacks for the .1/LFE channel, meaning once the bottom subwoofer has been connected to the output on your Lyngdorf processor you will then daisy chain the signal from the bottom sub to the middle unit, and then from the middle unit to the top one. In terms of Crossover and Level settings for each S/812, we recommend tuning each subwoofer individually to start and then making final adjustments with all six connected and playing. More information about the tuning process for REL line arrays can be found in the following video: ua-cam.com/video/X0IgdeSheak/v-deo.html
Is this better for movies than the Predator? I had dual Predators but they just didn't dig down quite low enough. I still regret getting rid of them though. Thanks!
The S/812 are exceptional subwoofers which function very well for both home theater and 2-channel music listening. The sonic character of it's output is different than that of the HT/1508, though the S/812 is capable of reaching deeper in it's low-frequency extension than the HT/1508.
@@Slickman2006 The S/812 is faster and more responsive in it's output, with greater detail and tonal definition in the sub-bass when compared to the HT/1508.
I wonder if the Rel could compete with a JL Audio F112/F113 V2. Rel and JL Audio both share the passion which I like. With compete I mean the integration, (blending) and disappearing with the other speakers. Low distortion bass.
Our focus when designing subwoofers is to deliver sub-bass output that blends seamlessly with your main loudspeakers, while also being able to play loud and reach deep in their low-frequency extension. If you have any questions about our subwoofer models, feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to help.
One of our subwoofer models will pair very well with your Genelec speakers, though the ideal choice will depend on a few additional room/system variables. When you have a chance, please write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to provide a pairing recommendation specific to your system.
Would you recommend one no.25 sub or a pair 412se subs for a 22’x42’ room in a basement? My setup is Infinity IRS Beta Speakers and 4 monoblock amps. Thanks
Since you are running monoblocks it is important to use a stereo pair of subwoofers, in order to prevent grounding issues that can lead to future damage. For that reason we recommend the pair of 212/SE of those two options, but feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net for a more detailed product recommendation.
The passive radiator works in tandem with the active driver, and in effect increases the driver surface area of the subwoofer. This allows the subwoofer to produce deeper and fuller output at it's lowest frequency extension.
Rel makes the best subwoofers indeed John. But i have a question i am kinda new to the rel world the video was good but which high level input should i take the high level in ore the high level out the same goes for fhe lfe.1 channel maybe someone could answer me this question
Thank you reaching out. If you are connecting from your receiver or amplifier to the subwoofer then you will want to use the input jacks on the REL, since you will want it to receive in signal from the source. The signal output jacks are intended for use when daisy-chaining multiple subwoofers together, for example when stacking multiple RELs in a line array configuration.
@@RELAcoustics thankyou for the fast reaction and nice explaining i think i will stack them in the future and try first to se e how this beast sounds alone cannot wait to pair them whit my kef r11
I just got my first rel S-812 for my focal sopra 2 and the sound quality is very impressive ..will I benefit from a stereo pair and what can I expect I also got the bass line blue for my naim nap 300dr.
Thank you for reaching out, and for supporting REL Acoustics. While a single subwoofer can deliver exceptional output, the addition of a second S/812 to form a stereo pair will have a significant impact not only on the sub-bass performance of your system, but also in the mids and high frequencies.
