REL Acoustics has completely updated the already awe-inspiring Serie S. The S/5 SHO is being replaced by the S/812, and the S/3 SHO by the S/510. Join Kevin and John to find out what's new and why you need a pair (or a six-pack!) of these in your system, no matter how great your loudspeakers are.
I have listened a lot recently to what John has to say and I must confess it makes sense to me. I am a physicist by training, a high-tech project manager in my job and a lifetime hi-fi enthusiast. John can articulate why a full-range audio experience is so much closer to real life. This is key. Everything we experience in real life is full range. Why not domestic audio?! I am considering a pair of S/510's to augment my KEF Reference 3/2's. And REL have been making subs - and ONLY subs - for 30 years with passion and focus. It is their world. That is a good reason to trust them, rather than a jack of all trades. Great video, Kevin! Thank you! I would love to see your new system! All the best, Rob
I aspire to own a REL some day. They've earned my interest
It’s not hard. Even their “low end” stuff is really good. Buy one. It’s great.
I was gonna get the svs sb16, I'm starting to change my mind. That s812 is starting to sound mighty fine!
What you end up choosing
When a buddy embarrasses you by overselling. LOVE IT!
Beautifull sub! In the market for a new one, so, i will go listen to this one
Question: you use the term ‘pressurize’, but excursion of drive units is as much going forward as it is going backwards - so no pressure?:-)
This guy knows how to sell products that are otherwise very difficult to sell. As usual his style of being WAX LYRICAL is soooooo evident you wouldn't need a microscope to realise it!
A master salesman. MASTER!
dual S/812 vs dual S/510? How do I decide? Just based on the room size?
I want to see Kevin's new setup!
Would a pair of the REL S/510s mate well with the Klipsch AL5 LaScala? If yes, we could only place the left S/510 in a corner. The right speaker floats in the room with a decent open area to its right leading to a doorway into another room. The left speaker is 42" off the side wall and 15" off the back wall. The right speaker is also 15" off the rear wall and 78" off the doorway to its right. Both speakers are slightly toed in and they are spaced 8 feet apart from one another. Thoughts on this set-up and a pair of S/510 subs? Space for a large sub and budget pretty much negate any other REL choice.
Just purchased this sub. Still playing with settings. Using high input with neutrik cable and the .1 lfe. Mostly for movies.
Worth the hype?
I'm thinking about it... is it possible to connect the high level to your speaker post as oppose to your AMP??
@@elongatuspiranha he said he bought their musically focused sub for home theater. hopefully he meant the HT models, not these, otherwise i'd be suspect of his opinion. no offense.
Still no remote like my 14 yr old storm 5!! love remote so much for setup.
They could have cheaped out by not having handles but no, they have stainless steel handles 😎 thank you Rel!
Thank you for the S812 demo. I'm definitely considering getting one vs 2 HT 1508 Predators. May I ask what interconnects and speaker cable you're using in your personal setup?
Awesome subwoofer, I own a Rel T9i love it, wondering if You could do a review on the new Monitor Audio Gold 100s? Thanks
Hello Kevin, thxx for these videos, they Rocks!
Would U associate New Klipsch La scala with 2 of these REL S/812 ?
Yes....sadly everyone thinks La Scala are huge so great bass. They need subs. And I would only use REL in that case. If you are in the USA contact us through the website and we can have a subwoofer expert reach out to you.
@@upscaleaudio Thx very much for you help, I'll go REL ! II live in Miami and will contact your website.
I swear these two could sell Jordan Belfort penny stocks
Ain't that the truth??
Right?
Tôi rất thích loa sub REL này
Hi will the 812 be a good match for focal sopra 2 just for music .
is it reasonable to buy Rel a t-zero for Elac debut 6.2 speakers ?
Anyone else find John Hunter shirt distracting? Is it battery powered?
How does the S/812 performance compare to the Carbon Limited?
Love the Carbon, but the S/812 has a lot of improvements. If you OWN the Carbon, I don't think the dollar loss would warrant changing...just being honest.
Please provide us a list of the "poseaurs" who this guy is not. Thanks!
Caleb Keen ....English dude English please.
When I was young and stupid I thought REL was something special, but these days nothing beats a JL Audio subwoofer. Even an RSL subwoofer is not a bad choice for majority of rational people who have to work a real job and live in the real world.
I find my JL does exacty what they describe with this Rel.
Are these good for music 2.1 and 2.2 rather than theatre???
A REL Acoustics sub is fine if you're just listening to stereo playback. In the opening of the video they're talking about listening to music -- highly unlikely that it was coming from a BluRay, i.e., 5.1 content. I heard the old REL acoustics model that the S/812 replaces on a pair of B&W towers and it was very impressive (bass). I'm now considering buying the S/812.
They do have a different model for HT
Doan I’m thinking of doing a 2.1 or 2.2 for music and home theatre with kef reference meta 1’s. Did you end up making a system with 2.1 or 2.2 with these subs? If so how was it?
After dropping $4.5 K on REL subs verdict? Meh, decent sub, vastly over priced but, not any better than the competition.
I have a pair of S510's and TX9's. Both have more than enough bass to balance out with huge towers. The S510's have impact that hits you. To me the subs sound lose, nothing tight about them. Overall-- beautiful, good amount of bass, lose overhang, vastly overpriced.
Meh. Just buy an SVS
if you have hamburger taste.....
@@googoo-gjoob I do quite enjoy a good hamburger
@@life_in_solace actually, #metoo .but when the menu only allows for one item, i usually go for the steak.
for my tastes... REL for 2 channel. JL Audio for theater.
