I think the fact that it's not a perfect performance adds to the beauty and humanity of it all. He's just a dude and he kicks ass.
Oh, very very insightful. So deep.
In the real world nothing is perfect, only in the artificial plastic materialistic matrix everything seems soooooooooooooooooooooo polished that it loses it meaning...and the masses drink that shit up like it twas Jonestown Kool-Aid.
Naw he needs a full band or more practise
I'm with you on this. It's genuine.
He has the Violators but they were too busy practicing to come to our studio.
He's so damn real it hurts.
dude, seriously.
This is music man. It’s not always perfect. It’s not always on tempo. A song isn’t going to sound exactly the same every time. That’s what makes it meaningful and Kurt Vile is such a pure musician
you guys talking shit about kurt vile need to realise that he wrote this song himself so he can do whatever he wants with it
Kurt's the man
Exactly.. he’s f-king incredible

Had depression that I could I recognise most of my life, around thirty years now, with leap-year highs maybe, the things I can remember. Music's brought me a lot of joy, but in the worst of it I forgot to listen to it, or just couldn't because I couldn't pick anything I wanted to listen to, until I heard Kurt Vile. However bad it gets now it doesn't matter much, because I can listen to Kurt whenever, whereever. It always sounds good to me. It doesn't make me happy, or sad, or anything. I don't need to feel anything, or worry about anything, but I can hear the groove, and listen, and it makes me feel better.
✊❤️
I can't seem to hear this song enough to get tired of it. feels like my autobiography.
audioautobiography
I hear you, my girlfriend hates this song because I can't stop singing it and it is driving her crazy.
He don't need to work on anything - life is full of stops and starts - that is awesome
Yeah he needs a whole Lotta work… He has no talent… That guitar riff is so hard on this song. Genius lyrics… unbelievable singer, songwriter, guitarist.. a true artist. BTW this is to whoever said he needs to work on his guitar... nope, he doesn’t
The guitar in this song is genius, anyone who hates on the fact that he is playing this on an acoustic and singing to it at the same time with no effects, should learn the song and try it themselves.
Christopher Kennedy song is damn near impossible to finger pick and sing
agreed. This one was not an easy learn. lol
Ian Foehr I can finger pick this song but when I try to sing with it I can’t play it or sing or keep the tempo right, takes all my focus just to play it lop
I can barely chew gum while walking, let alone sing while playing.😅
Silly man.....that's just me
I like the way this performance seems like he's all alone with the guitar in his bedroom. It's so natural...
Its amazing how some people can enter their comfort zone behind an instrument. He was not as comfortable before or after, but during it all the tension melted. Thanks for watching!
guy is so F ING pure it's not fair. even the lil hiccup is amazing
So raw and real. Wouldn't change a thing about his performance. Thanks for watching!
I LOVE this version of the song ?? The fact that he messes up sometimes is so excellent? I dont know it makes it so special ??? I love him so much, his music is so unique .... I cant stop listening to pretty pimpin
monstajule _ I don't think he's messing up. It seems to me like the pauses are purposeful.
There really is something about how authentic this performance is. Thanks for watching!
I wish i had someone to enjoy this song with
you are not alone
I’m sure you will in time. 😘
Im heeeeeere
These is one difficult song to play alone can't imagine playing it and singing at the same time it must be tough , nice performance period.
I love Kurt Vile.
SailorUsher me too💞
I love kurt cobain
He’s so cool that it hurts.
One of the best performances I have ever seen. Reminds me of some of the greatest singer song writers like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor etc.
Heck yeah, Steve! Kurt Vile does put on one fantastic & authentic performance.
No doubt, he has some serious modern James Taylor vibes here.
In the best way of course.
This is amazing. He’s incredibly talented. Love the culture he brings to music today.
i want to give him a hug
He really grooves when he does acoustic songs. The pressure probably got to him and he hesitated a couple times but he's still an amazing guitar player.
I like this performance, Kurt is great
Excellent to pick it up and play it like that.
Spectacular
love this! i've played many a times a little too drunk and this is exactly what that reminds me of. there are plenty of other performances that are more "on point." i'm happy this exists too.
There's enough room on the internet for all kinds of performances. We enjoy this version and others too. Thanks for watching!
Andrew Noyes Yes mate the drunk/high vibe works for this tune.
Purée c'est beau à en chialer !
on dirait du Nick Drake ❤️ le succès de son vivant en plus
Great recording, perfect style for Kurt Vile
How can this only have 100k views. Best song ever
Good question
This must be the best acoustic version of a song ever made
LOVE IT ! GLAD I FOUND MORE OF THE AMAZING KV !
Real as it gets! The vulnerability makes it great.
Beautiful.
Very raw, love it.....
This is freaking brilliant ❤🎶
Sounds great man, keep playing.
MET HIM, AND TALKED FOR A LITTLE WHILE IN A SMALL CLUB IN PORTLAND, OR...HE HAMMERED FREAK TRAIN !
brilliant stuff -
You got it wrong, haters. The pauses are done on purpose - plus, playing a song like that acoustically versus with a full band, is an entirely different affair. If you want perfect covers, go see the Eagles - note-for-note (and quite boring) copies of their records. Live music has flaws; obviously you want to hear pristine tones. Not Kurt Vile
I like he's style of playing
God damn. Really trying to keep up here. So raw.
Why am i crying
why are you asking
Because it’s beautiful.
I love his voice
Try to play this song and sing and youll understand a quarter second delay to remember where your at
I'm already confused...
@@909thebridge you dont see every other comment complaining about his little delay while playing? How confusing can it be?
@@williamkenny6383 Haha, I'm not a guitar player / singer, but yes! It sounds complicated.
I mean I’m not hating on the guy I couldnt care less that he fucked up. That being said this song isn’t a beginner song, but he wrote it and he plays it constantly.
This might have been the first song of the set. I have played a million shows with me standing on stage with just me and my guitar and usually the first two songs are the roughest. They are really easy to play perfectly in my rehearsal room where no one is watching. But live performance is whole different situation and I do agree it is important to perform well , but our human side seems to show up at the least opportune times. This song looks like it is difficult to play. It is easy to critique someone, especially if you've never done it yourself. Love the song
Last concert I got to see before I had to leave Chicago. It was amazing. I love him.
cool
He Cool
I woke up this morning and I didn't recognize my own Mirror.. Mere me.
Cool
to his credit its a tough tempo to get down plus the variety of notes. not an easy song. Cheers Kurt
Michael Herman it's pretty easy tbh
soapy worm not to mention it's HIS song...
jajajaja yeah I'm a big fan of his but this isn't good.
Comparing this performance to Neil Young’s live bbc performance from 1971, both similar in age, really makes you realize how amazingly talented Neil was at not only songwriting but also guitar. It’s just a completely different universe.
Anyone know what kind of Martin he's playing?
Trevor Kinzie Looks like a 00-18.
Imperfection is a lost commodity.
What kind of guitar is that? It’s a Martin 00 but with a om pickguard?
This song and guy remind of Neil Young. Lyrical and serious.
Does anyone know the model of this guitar?
It's a Martin brand acoustic, not sure what specific model.
It has mahogany back/sides, so it's an "18" series. Body size looks like 00-18, but it has a teardrop pick guard, which suggests it may be an OM-18.
Reminds me a lot of Townes. Chk out a song called mr mudd
Now playing! Thanks for the recommendation.
Thank you 100.000 times for the suggestion!
Is that a 000-18?
Reminds me of benzodiazepines
ALso this is SO real! LIke dayum Justin Bieber will never be able to play the guitar like this. Justin Bieber doesnt even write his own Songs!! FOr example 5 People wrote this Baby Baby shit! AND NOW LOOK AT KURT ROCKIN THIS SHIT HELL YEA THIS IS REAL MUSIC !!!!
The guitar to this Is very hard to play. he could have just done the chords, but that would have been way more boring. Rock on Kurt!
He's a hell of a songwriter, but no one should be kidding themselves he's a great performer. But I still LOVE him. He's as raw as it gets. I don't care if when it comes to his live performances or his recordings someone else is tasked with actually playing the guitar.
HAHA he just didn't gave a fuck xD
all these people talking shit about his performance, I'd like to see you try to play this song better than him without a band, good luck! haha! you people probably can't even play, that's the only reason why you're criticising, because if you had any idea how hard this song is you would have some appreciation
who else learned this song with capo on first fret? I'm triggered now
very hard to play
Seems like it! Here's a video to get started, good luck! ua-cam.com/video/zCXSSiC3_0k/v-deo.html
@@909thebridge Learned it, but cannot sing it at the same time for the life of me. Beautiful song, beautiful performance. Love Kurt to pieces.
If I did this people would not be impressed at all.
i don't think he "messed up" the tempo (etc)...i'm sure he could play it more conventionally if he wanted to....i think it was a deliberate choice...maybe he gets bored playing it the same all the time whatever....
d doyle yeah, he did that in the actual recording of All in a Daze Work and it added a looser feeling that I liked.
ah no. i like the guy, own the album. he is obviously nerved up here and trying to compensate by repeating the pauses (a bit), trying to make it seem like he meant to do that initially.
Naw he messed up multiple times
to all the complainers ....... would you rather listen to pro-tools computer-perfected artificial cheese-whiz or this? If you want the former, just turn on the radio, and enjoy the plastic, vocoderized, synthetic bullshit that the corporations feed you. If you want real music, live with the reality. Sometimes the flaws expose the humanity behind the song.
Granted, I am making NO comparisons whatsoever here, NOR diminishing in any way the talent or performance of Kurt Vile. But one thing Jimi Hendrix was well known for was never really playing a song the same way with every performance. He was an improvisational guitarist, and that, my friends, is the best kind in my opinion. As for THIS performance? Maybe it was just a bad day or he hadn't played the song enough. Who knows? But I don't think it detracts from the originality not the artistic quality of the song.
@john g Good comment completely agree
"artificial cheese-wiz" I'm dead 😂😂
Joshi
Audience sitting their like robots not clapping seems kinda rude, don't ya think? I applaud anyone that performs, even if I think they suck, just for having the balls to put themselves out there. Plus it's just good manners. But whatever, that's just me.
Hey Luke, the audience is asked to not clap because it goes live to the radio and the audience isn't mic'd. It would sound really faint, and radio listeners wouldn't get the real impression. Everyone claps like mad after the session! Thanks for watching and the keen observation!
Clapping would ruin this you dumbfuck
Luke Jackson it's not "but whatever, that's just me". It's "oh silly me, that's just me". 💪👇
Very agitated public ....
Unbelievable - Neil Young's got nothin' on this dude
I disagree. They are both great artists.
hahahaha
he needs to work on his live performing a bit but still a brilliant musician
He doesn't have to work on anything. It was a perfect performance.
I love just about everything Kurt Vile puts out. Wakin' On A Pretty Day will most likely be one of my favorite songs forever, Snowflakes Extended is amazing, his cover of Downbound Train gives me chills. He's clearly a genius in the studio... but he is just awful live. I've seen him and his band play and I've watched a lot acoustic live performances hoping to find one that will change my mind but he's just terrible, honestly if you're as talented as he is why is it that he can't perform, is he just fucking with us?
I hate it when the camera guy thinks he’s a part of the show.
:(
Guy needs to start tapping his foot.
No; the fact that he messed up this beautiful song doesn't make it more beautiful. It's like he was just learning the f.. song.
canny even play his own tune
he cant even play the song without fucking up the tempo and and some of the notes
granted still a catchy tune
It's a pretty complex composition.. anyone would have trouble getting the guitar and vocals perfect concurrently.
+Nick Knowles
really tho!
lets see you cover it.
Agree with you ! He's got some good songs but he just can't play them ! haha !
Was a Kurt Vile fan 'til I saw him live in Paris a few months back! Can't even listen to the music anymore... Worst show of my life !
an artist should strive for perfection, especially in their own music. never seen a worse performance by someone playing their own song. very disappointing.
Everyone's idea of perfection is different! By the way try fingerpicking this melody and sing at the same time, it's hard very hard! To add to that as well every musician has bad gigs!
Oh it looks like a very difficult song, I agree. It would take a lot of practice. But thats what an artist should do, hone his song and make it listenable, at the very least no pauses. Kurt didn't do that here. I also agree everyone has bad gigs, this just makes me embarrassed for him though.
Let's see you
it's easy to criticise. have you tried playing this song? i think he did great, this is not an easy song to play and he has no band backing him up. i'd like to see you try to play this song then try talking shit
+waterdragon2012 how is it talking shit you 12 year old shit lord? i admitted it would be a hard song but how exactly do you butcher your own song, i never claimed i could play it better, but i expected better from the maker of it... ill upload a cover in a week and ill do a better rendition than this, the guy who made the damn song then managed to shit on it in front of 50+ people.
Worst performance of anything by anyone ever
That was bad
Do you like the studio version? I think it's an amazing song.
Go fuck yourself
Disappointing amateur style with embarrassing pauses, so I will keep listening to his prerecorded tracks! Still respect him)))
Damn, tough crowd.
