Great review! Loved the music choices. For a 20+ year old game, the mechanics and overall atmosphere hold up quite well in this. Looking forward to seeing your opinion on the later titles, keep up the great work!!
While not my fave amongst the Fatal Frame series, I still think the first game probably remains the scariest in the series, largely due to it's enemy design. Unlike later entries, where the ghost are mostly just spooky looking dudes with some transparency effects, the ghosts in Fatal Frame 1 look F U C K E D . They're twisted and broken, and in near constant agony. They also really nailed that uncanny vibe with their odd movements (in the later games, most ghosts just walk and teleport, but here they dash, charge, zip around and fly at you). It really sells how terrible the Calamity and all the preceeding horrors were for it to conjure such vile apparitions. Solid video as always, man!
Agreed, the third are more less scary... Like, half naked beautiful tattooed woman 😂 but the story are good and disturbing tho... Edit: i wont talk about Project Zero other than this trilogy.
I didn't see anyone else mention it, but as I recall, Mafuyu actually stays with Kirie to ease her loneliness, as she'll have to keep the door sealed for all eternity.
I totally remember this one when it was first released. The cover alone (North American box) was enough to send chills down your spine. The first hour of the game really sets the tone for what you're about to experience in this hellish setting. It's a great horror classic.
This always felt like the 1 survival horror game that actually got the atmosphere right. Some of the enemies were fast enough to count as jump scares then they were also frequent enough that it was more about keeping you on edge rather then surprising you.
I see a lot influence from different UA-camrs in your videos. I also like the unique you that you are finding. It will take time as even some of my favourite creators took years to really find themselves. You have yourself a new subscriber as I follow you on your journey.
I love all the games but the first one will always be my favourite of them all. I wish they would remake this one instead of 4 (remake of 2 probably comes after that lol.....) I know a remake will never be able capture the original spirit of this game because it's truly a product of its time, but it could spark interest for new people and keep the series alive. This game for me truly is a masterpiece :)
I think you might have misunderstood the ending a bit. Mafuyu chose to stay so that Kirie wouldn't be alone in her burden. Because she's going to have to be there forever. Ther's no one left to do another ritual. So to keep her soul from succumbing to malice, he chose to stay.
@@ScottsGameAsylum Because in the review you made it sound like Kirie wasn't strong enough to seal the gate, which isn't true. Her ghost has the power, it's about her will to keep it closed forever.
Mr. Game Asylum, didn’t you have a video on Haunting Ground? I can’t seem to find it. Maybe it was another content creator but I had an inkling it was you.
I've heard that the Xbox (as in the original Xbox console) version of this game has more enemies & stuff to unlock. I honestly don't know how much it'd cost these days though. If you still have a PS3, then you can download the PS2 version to that console if you want.
Zombie and gore movies are not scary, but don't tell me the West doesn't have scary ghost stories (in film). The Shining, Hereditary, The Haunting 1963, etcetera. But yeah, in the late 90s The Ring and other Japanese horrors were scary as hell. Anyway, never mind me, good review. I play the game right now and it's great. Only scary horror game franchise out there, because it's subtle.
Excellent video, really engaging and funny. That's an instant sub from me, will definitely be checking out the rest of your channel. Fatal Frame (which is a much better title than Project Zero, can't believe we got stuck with that in the UK) is still a great horror game, despite its flaws there's so much that holds up. I love the atmosphere, just walking around the mansion with no idea when or if something was going to appear made me feel very tense (sometimes it felt worse when nothing happened).

Thanks mate! I have a playlist of the tracks used in my videos if you want to check it out.

The cover is horrific, but not in a horrifying way, I love it
Hey! This game came out when I was born!!

Yeah it got me a few times!
I haven't played the game, much, but good review! I'll have to get back to it, eventually.
Great vid, man. I hope your channel pops off.
I appreciate it!

Thanks, so what influences do you see? I'm intrigued!

This is just goth Pokémon snap
Really impressed with this one on such a short turn around, really felt like a game you enjoyed covering
That's a sign I've been covering a lot of crap as of late lol

Oh I understood it. It's still dumb

The dub sounds like it was done by people who just worked at Tecmo in Japan who happened to speak English.
That sounds like a dangerously realistic guess.
this is the game that needs a modern reboot
Well ff5 has just been released on pc and current gen consoles, and a remaster of 4 is coming next year
@@ScottsGameAsylum sweet!
Well, that's our Halloween stream sorted!
YES!
KUON next...
That game so underrated...
Its on the list

It's the Mandela effect, Jerry! Sadly it's not me, but if it was I would guarantee it would be 300% more sexier!
Okay, probably 3%

Gained a sub just cause of Fatal Frame. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!

No, thank you for checking my filth out!
Night 3 and that annoying ghost monk makes me drop the game
Its a drag, but stick with it
