    Cascadeur right now looks to focus as a keyframed animation tool and aiming at being part of a pipeline instead of replacing one. Reminds me of what Messiah Studio or Sega's Animanium was trying to do

    Very practical tool to fit within the pipeline ... that's it. Maya and Blender has nothing to worry about.

    Cascadeur is an impressive product thanks to its automatic IK/FK and Physics Solver to do stuff. You still use your traditional animation principles but the automatic physics solver to estimate how an action is executed helps out a lot.

    It's just another tool, and the whole "AI" feature is overblown. Experienced animators will be fighting with the automatic pose feature. People won't be ditching their production-proven pipelines built around Motionbuilder or 3ds Max Biped for this.

      But what you need to understand is that there’s a new generation of 3D users that are growing up expecting 3D to be easy and straight forward. Most people are. Not gonna take the time to master animation when there are tools like cascadeur.

      @@ebelesaurus2 I remember wanting to try out 3D modeling back in the mid 2000s, but there weren't any free options that I was aware of. Certainly none that are as beginner-friendly as Blender is now

      Cascadeur does not necessarily compete with high end animation pipelines. It was designed to do acrobatic movements and fight animations.
      It is a specialized tool. Not a general animation program that can do everything. Does it even support facial rigs?

      Rigging literally any already-weighted character mesh is WAY easier in Cascadeur than it is in anything else. I was able to throw together a perfectly working rig for the Skyrim dragon with Spline IK on the tail, wings and neck in like 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the closest equivalent for adding animation controls to existing skeletons in Blender requires two paid addons (Auto Rig Pro + the Quick Rig supplement) and what you get out of that is still not nearly as user friendly as Cascadeur.

      I’m a professional 3D animator and I use Cascadeur. You can take mocap data from two separate sources and make a new animation. Example mocap walk cycle for legs, then add mocap waiving arms and pointing or something. Blend the two together and you get a mocap driven custom movements. The Ai features help big time. I made a movement yesterday that took 5 keys, to make a character spin a wheel of fortune wheel. If you think that’s not good then I don’t know what your smoking.

    In my view, its a specialized software for character animation. It wont replace generalist like Blender or Maya, but it will have a place in the pipeline

    Somebody added very similar features to Blender as "BepuIK" a few years back. But it was never included in the main build and got very little notice.

    Nah, no worries, just an addition to a work pipeline like most software these days.
    this will just inspire and push competitors to have to be creative and innovate further on new or pre-existing tools.

    learning rigging in blender, and will go after for modeling and animation... and is good to know that we can have a option to help even more the process... I think this can be something like the guy said, a kind of tool for the other 3D apps

    It has good export tools and plugins for maya integration, so it's not a "threat" at all. It's a tool. You can use Casca to speed up your workflow, and tweak in other packages. Fantastic piece of software.

    Cascadeur is an assisting tool not a replacement tool for animation. There's nothing like a threat because you still need good grip of fundamentals in order to get your keyframes right.

    Am just going to say this before watching if cascauder contnues on it's path of improving "Adding face rig, A toggle for custom defaults e.g: realism, cartoons etc. and goes further into the DCC tools Path" the 1000% they are coming for the entire industry All my tools as a developer that includes rigging e.t.c All somehow includes Cascaduer..
    If you kinda think of it Cascauder is the best implementation of integrating AI into products. you do smt and it responds/ tells you what it thinks is best and you can stll say no I want to be wrong without it fully stopping

    its not a IA tool, you have to animate in the normal way , but uses automatic physics, and another tools that help you to animate faster.

      not at all? ZERO autoposing, doesn't have any of the advanced features Cascadeur has, we're not even considering cascadeur has quadruped autoposing coming up soon

    I Love cascadeur. I am making a Hockey Game and all my animations are made with it. The only thing I dislike is that I cant use the auto physics because they are not made for skating :-) mostly for walking and jumping. Of course, people are right for the free version it has become useless, but aince I have been using it for years they gave me a 2 year free full license. Even without thebauto physics it is very usefull and easy to use. Unbaking animation, importing per bones, frames etc is really amazing.

    From what I’ve seen am I also correct in assuming that Cascadeur only supports humanoid rigs and not animal or any other creature-shaped rigs?

      You can make your own creature rigs. You just have to know how much each part of the creature’s body should weigh to get the physics to solve correctly.

    Totally agree with you, can be a good support software, but still far from replacing the main animation software, AI is not as threatening as people think because has more limitations than a human, yes is very limited too limited to be correct, because only can produce a combination of the database is why we say AI "GENERATES" because is not creating anything new, plus in an animation is a lot more than just characters movement, we have a huge variety of things and Cascadeur still not have a robust feature for dynamic complex clothing, then is a niche software that pair with ZBrush because NOBOBY uses a sculpture of millions of polygon in animation and are better tools like character creating and motion capture, if you have a complex character you only get the base movement sequence with cascadeur but that is too far to be a final animation sequence unless you use plain uninteresting characters with a very basic clothing and I learned to do not try to cheat and find shortcuts because is easier create than fix at the end of the day you could end wasting more time trying to add the clothes dynamics and details, is why I totally agree that can safe you ti.e as support software but at the moment is still far from replacing other softwares.

    Claims to be “AI” assisted but can’t calculate ragdoll collision physics like my old Endorphin software from 2005.
    No general purpose external mocap retargetter
    Like MOBU,MAYA or Reallusion Iclone.

    6:44 I don't think so. At least not for cartoon/stylized character animation for sure. Cascadeur is more about making realistic movements, without any type of squash and stretch-like and other non-realistic behaviours. It is an awesome tool to exit mocaps, like editing movements that mocap actors couldn't properly do.

    Ok so a friend showed cascadeur to me and i just don't know how to feel about it, because, in my own opinion as a learning 3D animator how would i'd be able to learn from my mistakes if i'd let an Ai correct them for me ? But in another way, that would be cool to have a tool helping you understand or having a better demo reel with it.
    But if i'm Ai-assissted, am i truly preparing myself for the industry ? Am i truly learning how to animate in a software, is it legit to take an easyer way or should we stick with the hard path to feel more rewarded in the end in experience ?
    If someone could debate with me on that matter so i could clear the doubts, a pro animator from the game / cinema industry would be great !

      Cascadeur helps with some moments a lot and can save you a time. Ofc you'll have to use others like general blender or Maya, but cascadeur should never be considered as a replacement or a standalone tool.

    Wait cascaduer has 100% been battle tester is really big games. I was a beta tester and I think I saw it was used in the animation for Vector "Remember that running game 😍😍" and shadow fight 2 and 3 and other NEKKI games. Pls correct your video.

    I think Cascadeur is more a threat to senior animators than anyone else or any of the other tools; seeing as it offers a direct and objective support to inexperienced animators.
    Also in the case of big DCC's like Maya and particularly Blender; the strength comes from a more comprehensive set of tools.
    Not to mention the amount of AI stuff that already exists for most software whether through addons or not.

    Cascadeur was very laggy when I tried it and the mapping system is very underwhelming....not to mention the export fbx option is only for full members and even that..I couldnt find the full export options for fbx files it is far more smooth in blender and comprehensive.

    Cascadeur doesn't make any sense as a stand alone product for animation in my opinion. 90% of what it does blender and maya already do, most of it better. Like you said what Cascadeur brings to the table is auto posing and physics simulation / ai simulation to fill in secondary motion and smooth out pose to pose frames. So I feel like this would be so much better to have as a tool inside of maya and blender compared to another piece of software that you need to move your model to.
    Maybe this fits well with big studios with strict pipelines - but the amount of adjustments I make to the model and rig while animating is pretty high and that would never work when you have to re-export your model to Cascadeur all the time, and maybe even rebuild the simulation rig and what not.
    But the software industry is pretty weird - don't understand at all why blender texturing hasn't improved even a tiny amount ever since substance became the norm. So wouldn't be surprised to see that neither blender or maya adopt this at all and it will be just like substance something that could have been well integrated into existing 3d packages but instead adds to complex pipelines and adds cost for everybody.

      Rigging in Cascadeur makes rigging in anything else look embarrasingly convuluted in comparison, thats one of its major strengths IMO.

    Cascadeur is purely an animation software. Blender is like a Swiss army knife. It can do basically everything, not just animations.

    This is an example of how technology is kept back by people to stubborn to adapt to easier tools. If you look at software for vfx over the years there have been literally thousands of software tools that have replaced older tools over the years. Of recent years though power houses like auto desk with their users who've spent decades learning it to become the so called industry standard. But the truth is that easier, more user friendly and better software will be out there and as time goes on it will keep evolving just like it always has. Eventually the cycle will just repeat again.

      If you only care about actually making animations, go with Cascadeur. You'll waste time fighting with the fairly bad UI in both Blender and Maya.

    no its not. Cascaduer is a animation specific software. So ofc it will have things or rather, do things easier than maya or blender since its focused solely on animation. Which is ok. It has features that the other programs dont, which is ok. They only issue is if they didnt make it compatible with file types from blender and maya. THAT would be an issue. but thats not the case. I Dont get why youd compare Cascadeur to those two programs. The moment blender gets AI animations and auto posing and such like the. is when Cascaduer will be forgotten. Since blender is literally a jack of all trades 3d program. you dont see people comparing spine2d to blender do you. even tho blender can do 2d stuff too

    Animation is a recreation of normal human motion, hence motion-capture-like animaiton is regarded as dumb because it is not interesting. Furthermore animation is closly linked to scene previz, so without considering all the factors in a particluar scene setup just doing an animation is boring.

    It's simple, AGI agents will replace ALL these tools within the next 2 years.
    There will not even be a need for an animator or a tool to make animations, 3d models, textures, VFX, SFX/music or whatever else. You will just ask an AGI agent to make whatever you want with natural language, and it will just do it for you.
    Also, AGI-generated movies and even games will be a reality within the next 2-3 years at most (1 for movies 2-3 for games).
    We will watch these industries collapse entirely in real time in a very small time-frame. So get your popcorn ready, it will be pretty dramatic (if not hilarious).

    Sometimes I think the autor is making videos like that just for sake of making them, without investing much time in research. Shows that he probably knows about CG on surface level. But I guess it is enough to make money out of YT, so be it.

      Lol so they can charge like $9000 a year for it or whatever nonsense? Nothing they make is better enough than significantly cheaper alternatives to justify it

    A threat for maya maybe. But for blender? There is no threat to a completely free software.

    Then you realize it's strictly limited to the number of bones you can animate. I have rigs with over 300 bones sometimes. No way you can do this with Cascadeur.

      Not sure what you're referring to, unless you mean the Free version's limit of 120.

      @@sh-creative Yes. 120 is more than enough to make the Free version viable though, most cleanly constructed character rigs do not have that many.

    nope it isn't. Try it, lousy documentation even after 2 years. Even it is good, but if there is no proper tutorial, it useless to me.

      @@sh-creative It takes too much control when it comes to moving joints. But when it comes to animation the legs go through the floor so you have to change the interpolation type. Isn't that thing supposed to do the heavy lifting?

    Im honestly tired. Every week theres a new softwaee, a new thing to learn, a new standard, a new threat to something. Yet we gotta be experts in everything. These type of videos and titles dont help the situation. We gotta do better in this industry, overflowing this sector with stuff is gonna kill it. Yes it might be helpful, yes it might be a threat to blender, but for how long? I think its just words and speculation. You still need time to learn it and still can't phisically be up to date with every software, every AI platform, every trend and stuff. I hope this ongoing replacement and alternatives of things gets away sooner or later because its becoming depressing and just ridicolous, are we here to create or to change software and workflow every two weeks?
