Just got my Rave-o-lution out of my attic for first time in 21 years. I'd forgotten how to use it, so many thanks for your great video. It's made me very happy this evening. And the Rave-o-lution still sounds great... but now has extra vintage awesomeness!
Sweet, Paul! Jam On! Woot! 🤗😁👊
Thanks so much for helping me unlock the secrets of this Pandoras Box of delights. Bought mine a couple of years ago with upgraded chip set. A truly mind blowing piece of sound architecture...
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! I love this box!! 🤗😁👊
Probably the best video of this great machine in the whole network!!
Thanks for the kind words, Mate! 😀 👊
This is very cool, I’m floored at the creative new ideas every time, well done man.
Thanks very much for the kind words, Ray! 😀 👊
Wow! This looks amazing! Still so relevant and useable in todays music! You always manage to make everything shine in a special way
Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 You can still get some amazing sounds and grooves out of these! ❤️
Love the attention you are adding to youtube for this piece of gear.
Not enough tuts on it. 👌
Awwwww Yeah!
Thanks for watching, Mike! 😀 👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio yours is fully upgraded i dont have a page 10
@@LB-io6rz If you check on eBay and Reverb (dot) com, you can often find the newer OS chips for sale still! 😀👊
Thank you for your hard work! 👍🏻
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
great stuff! I love all the different knobs and diles on your 309!
Hey Hey! Thanks for the support! 😁🙏👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio no probs mate! I just went through my storage unit and found my old Rav-O-lution 309, MC 307, MC 303, TR-8, EPS-16 plus, Bass Station and Korg TR-Rack. you have me inspired to get them out and play! Thank you!👊🙏
Yasss! Loving the vintage gear, more of this please :)
WOOT! Thanks for watching, Buddy! 😀 👊
Wicked video...... I picked one of these bad boys up on eBay a couple of months ago. So glad that your coving this machine as I couldn’t find much in the way of tutorials. Love the old school rave sound that comes out of it....cheers for this and can’t wait for the next
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching, Stephen! 😀 👊
Tone of thanks for this video, great energy!!
Thanks, Jeff! 😀 👊
Yeah, I really like the vibe these retro Quasimidi machines put out! 👍
Great video.
Hey Hey! Thanks! 😀 👊
This thing's been used by Charlie Clouser on Nine Inch Nails "Starf?ers" song when composing verse parts.
👍
Looks like a ton of fun to play around with.
Love the fact that it has a knob titled "overblast"!
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
Things can get really wild if you turn up the Overblast. It's a bit like compressor on steroids.
Just call 'em pots, lol! Very useful video once again, thank you. Subscribed !
Hey Hey! Thanks for the sub! 😁👊
Yeah....soooo cool old box 🎼
So Much Fun in this one!! 😁👊
Always have been curious about these. Have to say I've never seen one in the wild though.
Sounds cool. Has a nice form factor too.
Hey Hey! Thanks for stopping by Matt! 😀 👊
I got one n i love it. Good bootleg machine if your limited on space and funds but need the basics..303 808 909
I'm in Australia and watching one of these on Ebay right now. Trying to decide between one of these, a Roland MC 909 and maybe a Korg Electribe EMX1. All awesome vintage gear. In reality though, I don't think any instrument is ever outdated. After all, people still make hit songs and music in general today with guitars, pianos, etc and these were around long before electronic instruments were invented. Good music is good music and I have say that this channel is my goto channel for really good jams and tutorials/explanations on using gear and producing music. Thanks a lot Dean.
Oh, have you checked out the new app by Jim Audio? Pure Acid it's called I think. That app ROCKS!
Thanks, Danny! 😀 👊
Thanks for watching and good luck with your eBay hunting!
Yes! I got the Pure Acid app! 😍 It looks really awesome, but I have not had the chance to play with it yet. Can't wait!! 👍👍
wow ich denke diese ist schon .... upgradet ....cool :] danke
Yes, it came from a lucky eBay find and was already fully upgraded! 😁🙏👊
Got some nice headphones and this video got recommended again. Man this sounds pumping on these new cans!
Awesome! 😀 👊
What headphones did you go with? 👍
Since i am on a really tight budget lately my new headphones are pretty low budget ones, OneOdio Studio Pro-50 from Amazon. I saw lots of positive and raving reviews and ratings so i had to give them a go. Although they claim to be studio monitors they are not exactly flat response so i wouldn’t call them monitors. They have a little bit more emphasized bass response, but overall very impressive and enjoyable sound for the money and EXTREMELY comfortable to wear. Another selling point is that is has both a 1/4” and 3,5mm jack. You can tether them or use whatever audiocable you prefer. Very happy with these ones, especially for the price.
I usually use Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and Sennheiser HD 280 Pro when making music which are a lot flatter response and better for mixing. But i prefer to use these OneOdios now when listening to music or UA-cam. They instantly became my go-to cans! Definitely highly recommended if you just want a pair of nice all-purpose comfy headphones that you need to wear for many hours. I only paid $20 for these, after instant coupon and some store credit. Not regretting at all that i got these, although the brandname sounds like something that might have you think twice hahahah. I expected some total Chinese garbage which they are not at all. I hope they will last as long as my Sennheisers. Those are about to fall apart after using them for nearly two decades lol.
Damn Dean, that is some sick piece of gear 🤤 drool
Hey Hey, Ed! 😀 👊
If only I could have gotten one of these in 1998! Oh man! 🤤
Solid demo -- thanks! I have a lot of nostalgia associated with this box -- was one of those ones that I was dying to get back in the 90s, but didn't have the cash. Couldn't afford original TR/TB anything, couldn't afford the early "clones" either haha :) Anyway, thanks for the great vid
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! I had that same nostalgia - was amazing to finally get to actually play around with this beauty after so many years! 😀 👊
I remember ordering the demo cd and then listening to it over and over back in the days.... :) This unit really has a "sound". Not sure if it's the samples/synth engine or just how the sequence works that inspires you. Many many thanks for video!!
Hey Hey! 😀 👊
With this box specifically, It's really the immediacy and tweak-a-bility that attracted me initially, but when you really get DEEP with the box and understand what it can actually do - then I just want more hours in the day to program it more!
Mine has the synth expansion, which actually adds 2 more synth engines into the box, but you have to sequence them from an external device - I really want to experiment with figuring that out! (Just need more hours in the day!) 😏
Thank-you! You have inspired me to fire up the old girl and subscribe.
AWESOME!! Thanks for the sub and have fun, Will! 😀 👊
thanks for this tutorial you saved my life. ;_;
Hey Hey! Thanks for the support! 😀 👊
Man, your love for this machine remind me at the time when i own one, so much fun and possibilities !
But i sold her there is 10 years ago with many of cool gears.. snif snif snuf snuf !!!
Anyway, you did a great job here with good energy and positive attitude !
For that i can gives you one thumb up + a Sub 1 (A Sub Zero brother)
Stay as you are !
Peace !
💙 Hey Hey! Thanks very much, Eric! Cheers! 😁🙏👊
Hi! Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial video!
Does your Rave O lution has audio expantions? also What OS do you have it in? 3.0? 2.0??
Thank you very much!
Hey Hey, thanks for watching! 😀 👊
Yes, this Rave-O-lution is fully expanded with the Drum expansion, Synth expansion and extra audio outputs expansion.
It has the last available OS chip, which is 3.(something) I can't recall the exact Number.
@@ElectronisoundsAudio Thank you so much for your quick reply!
Good video. Did you buy it with those replacement knobs and end cheeks? I've still got mine from 1996 with all expansions. Think I need to bling it up a bit.
Hey Hey, Jonathan! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
YES - I found mine on eBay from a fellow who used to be *sponsored* by Quasimidi.
Such a *lucky find!* 💙
It already had the knobs and end cheeks, plus apparently some capacitor upgrades inside the box as well! WOW!
Such a *lucky find!* 💙
@@ElectronisoundsAudio It was such a better machine than the Roland Groove boxes at the time.
You can make a whole tresor 90s album just with this and a boss tape echo ffs. Is awesome . I found one v3 almost boxed looks brand new . Gonna be a killer combo with my mc909
Sweet!! Thanks for watching! For sure, killer combo with a MC909! Woot~ ! 😁👊
I've watched this a couple of times - it has shown me many things I did not get from the manual. Thanks very much! I think I must have an abbreviated manual, because it doesn't cover things like the special loop tracks - what are they, and how do you record them into a pattern?
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! You can still find the FULL manual online for the 309 if you want to go deeper! 😁👊
For the Special loop tracks, you don't record them into a pattern, you just trigger them LIVE when jamming.
Hi - I have 2 of these old ones, but where did u get the metal knobs? - looks so much better
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
I was lucky enough to find this one with the knobs already changed out. I've not seen a set of these knobs for sale, but you can find sometimes some knob replacements for the Rave-O-Lution on eBay and Reverb if you check often. 👍
Hey man thanks for making this it is super helpful! I just wanted to know from where u got the silver metal knobs, mine are black plastic
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 🤗😁👊
I was lucky enough to find this Rave-O-Lution already with the custom knobs from the previous owner.
They come off pretty easily if you wan to try and put some different, custom knobs on yours!
Which aftermarket knobs and wooden panels did you purchase?
Hey Hey!
I didn't. I was lucky enough to find this one already pimped out on eBay! 😁🙏👊
Hey coming back to this series of vids, seriously dig this machine. Just need to be clear but that groove at the end credits is a prior studio track right, not made on the rave o lotion? Much love as always Dean, I think I’m on the market for one these beasts 😵
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😁🙏👊
Yes, you are absolutely correct about the very last piece of music on the outro slideshow. It was not made with the Raveolution.
I've actually got a super special Quasimidi video coming out this Monday, which might help you decide for certain if this machine is for you or not!
(Still so much fun to play with imho... 😏)
Electronisounds Audio Rad dude! Love that synchronicity! You’re totally gonna convince me I know it! And for the record that outro groove is beautiful just not as gritty so I was surprised. All beautiful, you have such a great ear for tone
Hi excellent tips and a get video. I just can’t seem to remember how to program an 8 bar loop for the bass synth.
Can u pls assist
Thnx 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
Sorry, programming an 8bar loop is a bit complicated to explain, but you need to go into the menu and create a user motif. I hope to do more videos on the Rave-O-Lution, but not sure when that will be. You can grab the original manual from here which should help as well: www.quasimidi.eu/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=39&task=viewcategory&catid=1
Electronisounds Audio thanks. Btw I bought the 309 when it first came out. 🤣🤣
That’s why I said forgot. Brilliant machine. Also have the Spectralis. A bit too deep with under the hood you pages. Jorge never did the justice to the Speckie I into finishing the product
A genius at his work 👍👍👍
Where did you get the custom knobs ....they look rich!
Hey Hey, Todd! Thanks for watching! I got lucky and these knobs were already installed on this one when I bought it used. 😀 👊
wo hast du diese coolen knobs her....? thx
Mine came with them - I bought it used from eBay. :) :)
Excelente video!
I been search a really good machine for can complemented my tanzbar 1 for minimal!
I search a percussion machine... something that i can creating good percussion weird! ricardo villalobos style
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😁🙏👊
Can you use pads to create your own patterns for kicks and stuff?
Yes! It gets a little tedious programming this one, but yes, for sure you can make your own patterns! 😁👊
The 309 Is the main Gear of all my production. Have a listen to Lux21000 or Bit Riders on UA-cam
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching!
Great sounding tracks, Alessandro! 😀 👊
I store bass and store pattern. But cutoff is somehow not stored or restored to a wrong value (about 16). Why?
Hi There. :) Cutoff is stored with the *sound* so, you just have to save the sound with the cutoff where you want it by default, then save the pattern. 😀 👊
Also - if it is not saving **anything**, you might need to replace the internal battery? :)
hey ich hab so eine aber ohne diese ganzen updates.......war echt ein cooles spielzeug - sollte ich vielleicht mal wieder aus dem keller holen :]
YES! Get it out! 😁🙏👊
They should make this workstation and add a tb303 clone into it along with a sub oscillator for non 303 basslines.
That would be incredible! 😀 👊
do you think it'll be possible to make tutorial part 2 ? that'll be so amazing!!
Thanks! I hope to make more videos, just never enough hours in the day! 😀 👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio didn't expect to get a reply !! Yeah I can only imagine. I watch your video everyday to practice, thanks again for the tuto!! 💜
Here thanks to Bad Gear channel but this sounds good..
Yeah, I knew this was going to get some hits becuase of that... Haha, I really love the Quasimidi gear, though! So much fun if you dig that 1990's sound! 😀 👊
Well… I still waiting for one to be available in China somewhere, pretty hard this last few years the get old machines here because the shipping costs getting really crazy nowadays, most of the time is more the the equipment itself 😅
Thanks for watching! 😁👊 Agreed - the shipping is crazy expensive these days! YIKES!!
@@ElectronisoundsAudio Hey Dean, finally I find one in Japan, I installed last version OS chip, amazing machine bro 😍
@@djfane4790 SWEET!! Happy Jamming!! 😁👊
Umm how to change notes on synth patterns?
You would need to COPY that motif to an empty USER MOTIF SLOT, then you can edit it. It's tedious imho, Sorry. 😀 👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio Ok thanks I try that
Hey Electonisounds Audio Not sure if it's a firmware update issue I recently upgraded to the 3.0 firmware but my edit system menu only goes up to 9
Do you know if there is a reason for this?
Sorry, Bro - I'm really not sure. 🤔
I just double checked on mine, and my system menu definitely goes to page 11. Weird!!! 🤔
Problem solved! Looks like I had the 2.0 version still installed! Changed them over and now the menu goes up to 11.....Happy days!
@@djqueenie EXCELLENT!! Stoked you got it working! 😀 👊 🔥
Electronisounds Audio Thanks for the response! I was swapping out the firmware chip and the pins were being a pain....I didn’t realise I’d put the old one back in.....🙃was very pleased with myself thinking I’d done a great job in not snapping any pins.....watched your tutorial and wondered why my menu page stopped at 9......half hour later and 1 snapped pin on the. old firmware chip I was back in business!
Now all I need is a programming tutorial.....I wonder...........if only there were someone who knew.....I don’t suppose....🤔😉
@@djqueenie Awwww Yeah! 😀 👊
There is definitely more coming for the Rave-O-Lution! 👍
Not straight away, but it's on the coming soon to-do list! 👍
Yours is the 2012 full expanded edition?
Hey Hey!😀 👊
Quasimidi went out of business in the year 2000. This is a much older piece.
I really wonder what kind of gear they would be making today, if they has stayed in business! 🤤🤤🤤
@@ElectronisoundsAudio i think someone made a 2012 prototype edition full expansions in germany.
Do they still worth it man bringing some quasimidi gear home or todays market has much better options? Im torn apart. And i know reliability has been bit of a crap on those machines:p
Im a rave acid freak i cant help it. The only modern machine ive found next to that dirty quasimidi sound is roland jdxa and dominion1 mfb
@@noobslayerr9732 I've not heard of anybody making a prototype... I'll be keeping my eyes open for more info on this! 😃😃
Certainly these are *not* the best machines in comparison to today's market, but it all depends on exactly what your intentions and end goal(s) are, musically.
If you just want to play around with gear and have some fun, YES - this box is perfect.
If you want to write "studio quality finished tracks" that stand up to today's modern electronic music - old hardware is not going to get you there. 😏
These days - we have pretty much unlimited choices for hardware gear or software, and I think it really just comes down to what your personal end goals are.
@@ElectronisoundsAudio amen to that. Im locked in 90s sound despite me being born in 90s hahaha as a vinylist with 2 awards 90s tek and old trance has been my very first listenings. Now i work dawless sampler free and i have a small glimpse to upgrade from my elektron gear haha and im in the loop in my head on what to get :/
Yes there has been a prototype..☻
I have the rave o lotion 309 and the owner I bought it from said it has the synth and drum expansion in it, where do I go on the machine to search for it to see if I have those expansions?
It's very complicated - I can't answer that in a comment. The manual is your friend. 😁👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio it never came with a manual
