Sorry I can't be of more help, Serge!
I remember where it first came out at the time I was in Az DJing in a place called The Works at the time another DJ you might know Marcus Shultz was also working there. Industrial & Deep House music was happening there. I first came upon this and I felt it had something that was a step above the Roland units. The 309 came into the club and became a part of my my DJing experience. A couple of years ago I almost sold mine which it also expanded. i was just looking at it a few days ago was again thinking about selling it but after seeing your video I thought I would take and spend some time again with it. I will be doing some music production this winter and maybe I will find a space for it. You did a Great job in this video explaining about the 309 & your post brought me back to many great times and this great old school music tool.
Hey Hey, John! Thanks for watching! 😁👊 There is still a lot of fun in this box fore sure! It might not compete with the most modern drum machines for phat, crisp sounds but I think there is definitely a place for it in a setup still! 👍👍
@@ElectronisoundsAudio You had mentioned sone programming ideas for the 309. I’d love to hear what you have in mind. I was actually thinking about sone break beat & Trance sounds from this and tracking sone live drums , bass & guitar into reason or Reaper. At the least get sone cool moving synth sounds and see where it goes. I have some of the expansions on mine but not all. We will have to see where the creation leads to.
ah man, this was my dream machine back in the nineties, i remember being at the store and it was a toss up between this and the yamaha AN1X, i ended up going with the AN1X but had much love for this thing.
That's why I have the manual. 😀 👊 I got *REALLY DEEP* with programming it, and the end result was this piece of music: ua-cam.com/video/Fn51m_0GDCE/v-deo.html
i have a fully expanded RaveOlution, Sirius and a Quasar. They all sound a bit grungy. I think it is just a characteristic of Quasiimidi. I also started with hardware in the early 90's , sold it all and now rebuilding my collection of old synths.
@@ElectronisoundsAudio My Quasar is rather tatty but it was also quite cheap. Everything works so I don't mind too much. Vintage synth's are like buses...You don't see one for ages and then they all come along at once! There seems to be alot of Korg Prostheses around at the moment and if you don't mind it being a little tatty you can get one quite cheap...Well worth getting.
Brilliant! What a great sounding machine. Looks like a lot of fun (if a little tight on finger spacing!) Never knew about this one. Back in the 90s we only got to dabble with the Roland grooveboxes. I think it’s wonderful that you’re revisiting old hardware and making more up-to-date sounds and grooves with them. Still plenty of life and potential left in these old machines! 🔥
This one is *SO MUCH FUN*! Oh my! - Instantly tweakable and yet super deep if you want to go there. (and of course I do! lol - Awwwwww Yeah!) Pretty sure there are going to be some super sweet jams coming from this box in the future! 😀 👊 (also - GOOD EYE on the lack of finger spacing! There is literally no room for my fingers with these after-market knobs installed.... 🤔 lmao - and my fingers are small and thin, too!! 😏🤣)
Some great tips there. My idea would be to hook up the 309 to your DAW, it sends the Synth, Drum, Bass, Perc midi nicely separated on their own MIDI channels. Once you captured that MIDI you can use your favorite synths (VSTs or External Gear) and presets (or your customized DAW's drumrack etc.) to come up with a fresh rave track that does not use any of the outdated or grainy sounds of the Rave-O-Lution. It has been a long time ago that I did that (another unfinished track...) but I can remember the whole process of getting the MIDI into Ableton was pretty simple and after that playing around with that MIDI was fun. A lot of folks will think that surely I must be talking of getting that Rave-O-Lution audio into the DAW but I am strictly talking about recording that 309 MIDI. Once captured you could send the MIDI back to the revolution but it is difficult to think of a useful scenario for doing so.
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 Yes! Woot!! I've actually used the midi out to trigger all sorts of external synths and gear! I specifically collect the Quasimidi gear for the outdated, lo-fi and grainy sounds, though. 🤓🤓 I'm not trying to make modern, Beatport chart hits with it. 😁
@@ElectronisoundsAudio Then you would love the Technox! I have the fully expanded 309, fully expanded Quasar, Technox and Raven Maxx but never got around exploring their full potential, but currently low-res Technox is in my rack tower ready to be used.
@@vampiremaffia SWEET! You and I have a very similar collection! 😁👊 I'm still missing the Technox, but i've got 2 fully expanded Rave-O-Lutions, the fully expanded Quasar, The Sirius, the Poymorph and a very beat up Raven (not max). 🤓 I made a track last year using *only sounds I recorded from the Quasar* just for fun: ua-cam.com/video/Yx6E9S-_Fqo/v-deo.html
Hey thanks for all your vids on the Rave-O-Lution! I recently purchased a fully expanded one with the drum, synth, additional outputs, and blue LED but the knobs on mine are original. Do you happen to know a place to grab those silver knobs? Sounds like they may have been already installed on yours but just wondered if you knew. They look great! Thanks
Hey Hey, John! Thanks for watching and congratulations on your acquisition of one! 😀 👊 Unfortunately, i've not seen a set of the silver knobs for sale, and while you could likely exchange the main knobs for some other aftermarket knobs, it might be harder to replace the one large knob. If you don't care so much about that one large knob, then you could likely find the right size knob in all sorts of styles, and colors from knob makers as long as you're careful to make sure the center hole of the knob matches in size. Hope that helps at all.
Hey got the same expanded..best off with standard knobs...i think sweat off ya fingers will soon tarnish/corode silver....if you like techno/rave/dub then try the eternal flow apps on android...hit play and endless tunes are generated...had mine going for a record 16 hours...really sounds like studio production
This sounds awefully flat.. but hey, that was the time back then. And i even considered buying one in the 90ies. but chose the Jomox09 and Novation Bass-Station 1. I can feel the rave of the 90ies...
The sounds on this vid aren't doing to machine real credit to be honest. I have one as well, and it's quite capable to kick some butt. If I'm right at least the kicks, snares and hats are sampled, and can't fully compete to a D-Station or Jomox. But none the less, there are some pretty deep and noisy kicks in this box which I use more as a sound-source than sequencer.
Hey Hey, Inky !I'm not sure which one you mean. 😀 👊 Very far left is a Soundcraft Signature MTK signature 22 mixer. Then, an Allen and Heath XONE:DB2 dj mixer, then the blue retro sampler/groovebox is a Yamahu SU700. Hope that helps! 😁
@@InkyDaCaT I love the SU700, it was my first sampling groovebox back in the 1990's. 😀 👊 This one is a new aquisition, which i've had the knobs replaced on (so no jitter!!) and found a bonus new school external hard drive for! It's going to make an appearance at some point in some videos for sure. The BONUS is, that I can NOW sequence it with BM3, giving it a huge new life over what it was once capable of with it's *very limited* on board sequencer. GOOD TIMES!! 👍👍
@@ElectronisoundsAudio yep een geeking..ahhh but promised..no more gear till I have set either on force or 2 mpcs and pioneer s9 mixer..no more toys..jamming only😂😂😂ahh tis hard lol.btw great to see you in hardware jams community..hehehe they like me there😉
Yeah, I remember these! Never owned one though. It’s funny, the bassline in the first example you played sounds so much like a track from the 80s.. Wish I could remember what it was.. Maybe a Yello track?
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 Indeed - there are a few patterns in here that are *surprisingly* similar to famous tracks... 😲 (I'm so serious - there is a motif in here that sounds *EXACTLY* like the super famous lead synth line from Prodigy's "Voodoo People"! I'm guessing that Quasimidi straight copied that riff from Prodigy, because this box came out in 1996 and the original Voodoo People track came out in 1994. 😏)
Electronisounds Audio Yes, I can imagine! I recall when I was in high school in the 80s, my English teacher lent me his Korg DDM-110 drum machine for a weekend, and that thing had the drum pattern of Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Starting Something on it.
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😁👊 If you keep your eyes on eBay and Reverb, you can still find a lot of used ones. Condition varies, as these are pretty old machines now. Just make sure it's a fully upgraded unit, with the "Synth Expansion" and "Drum Expansion" and the most updated firmware chip. They come around still! GOOD LUCK!!
@@ThePoPoBear The next most important thing would maybe be that all the knobs and buttons still work properly, but that's going to be more difficult to find. Oftentimes, these older units can get "knob jitter" or similar and need to have some (or all) the internal knobs replaced - which can get really pricey if you need to take it in to a shop...
I'm on my second 309. I sold my first one years ago and bought another one recently. Cool video and the jam at the end was lush. One minor criticism though.... I can't help thinking that all the emojis and script overlays are very childish considering your audience is likely to be adults.

Perhaps I'll just get one and have it fixed but see the recent one I bought advertised it was in perfect working condition which it was not and the guy didn't offer to give me a partial refund so I had to return it. I still have a bunch of songs on tape that were made with that thing. In fact if you want to laugh and hear a 15 year old me I did put one online www.reverbnation.com/djpuzzle/song/14173047-nothing

Electronisounds Audio ha thanks bro. It’s just the one tune “Nothing” that is from the 80s using a YS200.
Great unit. Would not sell it even for 1500$. Still looking for the quasimidi raven synth in good condition🤘
Hey Hey, Mike! Yeah, the Raven looks pretty sweet! 😀 👊
I must admit that i've been turning into a bit of a Quasimidi Fanboy, and i've been researching all of their products. 🤓
I tracked down a Sirius Synth for a good price on eBay, but when it got here, it was in pretty poor condition.
I've tracked down a bunch of replacement parts for it from all over the world, and it's about to go into the shop!
I could have just tried to find another, better condition Sirius, but something about keeping this one alive instead -
has got me feeling extra nostalgic about the old days (in a good way...) when I started making Electronic Music, back in the early 1990's.
I hope you find a Perfect Condition Raven!! 👍👍👍
I grew up in the 90' on music made by quasimidi gear. Aren't we lucky we didn't grow up with sync vegas and dike mike😉

Can anyone help me with the midi cc nos of the Quasimidi 309
I’m using Digitakt to sequence the 309 and need to control the filter , envelope etc
Pls help. Thnx 🙏
Hey Hey! They are in the manual which is here: www.quasimidi.eu/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=39&task=viewcategory&catid=1
Thank you. Can you believe it ? I checked the manual and missed it 😜🤣. So I wrote to Jorg who made the unit as I was one of his first buyers and he replied and said as far as he said he can’t remember if he had midi implementation and he thinks it sends system data and not midi controller nos.
🤣🤣😜
But thank you dear the 309 rox 👍👍

Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 🤗😁👊
I was actually lucky enough to find this one already modfiied and maxxed out with both expansions (synth/drums) and the extra audio outputs installed as well.
The fellow I purchased it from said he used to be sponsored by Quasimidi, so I'm not sure if he did the upgrades, or if he got it direct from them with the fancy knobs already installed.
Sorry I can't be of more help, Serge!
Those sounds are sweet
Hey Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check this out! 😁🙏👊
They should remake this with a true 303 sound engine and control and a sub oscillator to do non 303 style basslines.
That would be so sweet, but the company is long out of business. 😀 👊
There is still a lot of fun in this box fore sure!
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! I saw a video on the ANX1 - some *great* sounds in there, too! 🤗😁👊
If you're into just hittin play this is ok, but programability is a challenge.
That's why I have the manual. 😀 👊
I got *REALLY DEEP* with programming it, and the end result was this piece of music: ua-cam.com/video/Fn51m_0GDCE/v-deo.html
i have a fully expanded RaveOlution, Sirius and a Quasar. They all sound a bit grungy. I think it is just a characteristic of Quasiimidi.
I also started with hardware in the early 90's , sold it all and now rebuilding my collection of old synths.
Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
I'm jealous of your Quasar! 🤤 (...got my eyes peeled for one of those!)
I got through 2 of those haha
WHOA! Sweet! 😀 👊
KMFDM in a box!
Oh Hell Yeah! Thanks for watching! 😁👊
Brilliant! What a great sounding machine. Looks like a lot of fun (if a little tight on finger spacing!)
Never knew about this one.
(and of course I do! lol - Awwwwww Yeah!)
Pretty sure there are going to be some super sweet jams coming from this box in the future! 😀 👊
(also - GOOD EYE on the lack of finger spacing! There is literally no room for my fingers with these after-market knobs installed.... 🤔
lmao - and my fingers are small and thin, too!!
Yes! Woot!! I've actually used the midi out to trigger all sorts of external synths and gear!
I specifically collect the Quasimidi gear for the outdated, lo-fi and grainy sounds, though. 🤓🤓
I'm not trying to make modern, Beatport chart hits with it.
I'm still missing the Technox, but i've got 2 fully expanded Rave-O-Lutions, the fully expanded Quasar, The Sirius, the Poymorph and a very beat up Raven (not max). 🤓
I made a track last year using *only sounds I recorded from the Quasar* just for fun: ua-cam.com/video/Yx6E9S-_Fqo/v-deo.html

Thanks for watching, Bro! 😀 👊
Unfortunately, i've not seen a set of the silver knobs for sale, and while you could likely exchange the main knobs for some other aftermarket knobs, it might be harder to replace the one large knob.
@@captainhunter9830 Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
These are anodized aluminum knobs I think. No issue with corrosion. 👍
This sounds awefully flat.. but hey, that was the time back then. And i even considered buying one in the 90ies. but chose the Jomox09 and Novation Bass-Station 1. I can feel the rave of the 90ies...
Thanks for watching! I bet you had an awesome time with that Jomox!! 😀 👊
If it sounds awfully flat I could sell you my Yamaha P3500 amp and NS-10M studio speakers...nnnnnnnmmnnnnnn o

Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
Indeed - there are a few patterns in here that are *surprisingly* similar to famous tracks... 😲
(I'm so serious - there is a motif in here that sounds *EXACTLY* like the super famous lead synth line from Prodigy's "Voodoo People"! I'm guessing that Quasimidi straight copied that riff from Prodigy, because this box came out in 1996 and the original Voodoo People track came out in 1994. 😏)
The bassline is "inspired" by the track "The Robots" from Kraftwerk. :-)
Tom P Ahh Yeah, that’s it!
Electronisounds Audio Yes, I can imagine! I recall when I was in high school in the 80s, my English teacher lent me his Korg DDM-110 drum machine for a weekend, and that thing had the drum pattern of Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Starting Something on it.

If you keep your eyes on eBay and Reverb, you can still find a lot of used ones.
Condition varies, as these are pretty old machines now.
Just make sure it's a fully upgraded unit, with the "Synth Expansion" and "Drum Expansion" and the most updated firmware chip.
They come around still! GOOD LUCK!!
@@ElectronisoundsAudio what else should I look for?
@@ThePoPoBear The next most important thing would maybe be that all the knobs and buttons still work properly, but that's going to be more difficult to find. Oftentimes, these older units can get "knob jitter" or similar and need to have some (or all) the internal knobs replaced - which can get really pricey if you need to take it in to a shop...
