This is a man who made sure to use every millisecond of his 15 minutes in the spotlight and put it ALL on the floor. He likely has not one regret. May we all live this way. /d
@@marychandler8097That's because A LOT of people are bigots therefore too many gay men don't feel comfortable being themselves, so they have to pretend to be straight, that's what hurt Liza.
What I love about this performance, well at least one of the things, is when he jumps off the piano bench starts dancing and playing the maracas, strips off his shirt to reveal the bedazzled vest, and then to top it all off, adds the whistle, and STILL everyone stays seated. What a boring crowd and what an entertainer - love it!
His musicianship is utterly amazing...wow! The way he plays the piano and sings out to the audience, the maracas, the whistle, love it! Too bad the audience is so dead, I would be jumping through the whole song!
I found myself singing this song to myself today...memories from childhood seeing him on variety shows on tv. Came to UA-cam to find a video of him singing this. So glad I did!
It's not necessary to be gay to enjoy music written and performed by gay people. You don't have to point out that you are not gay. This song is about Rio de Janeiro not about being gay, and even if it was the fact that you enjoy it doesn't make you gay.
Agree, but I was pointing out the fact that at the time when Peter was performing these numbers he was told to turn down his overly flamboyant expressions and energy for fear the mainstream public would not except the music for being charged with homosexuality. He was sort of censored in many ways like Elvis was for thrusting his pelvis and swinging his hips. I was giving Peter credit for not caving in to the demands of his record company and management. These are different times now, so my comment may have seemed a bit ignorant. I should have written it in the context of the era. Thanks for commenting and pointing that out.
It's nice to know that man. I mean I thought it was one of those comments from people who have this fear of being related to anything gay and because of that they always have to point out they are straight. But now that you put in context I got your point.
Had the good fortune to see Peter live back in the 80's. Front row seats to an amazing show. And lord have mercy Taco opened. There are very few artist who could take an audience to the places he could. Thank you Peter for giving me songs that I still listen to today......
Omg I loved him then and adore him now. The ultimate funky camp-tastic songs and performances. He was was such a big irrepressible talent, very theatrical and joyful, you can't help but be infected by it! This song (performed by Pablo Cruise) was a disco dance hit in the clubs and now I think we were so lucky to have Midnight Special - can enjoy these 70's live performances now on YT. Dig Shawn Cassidy eh? lol. Hey everyone, "Everything Old Is New Again!" (Thank you Peter)
@@frankmachin5438 I took notice of him when I was in school. There was something about him that drew people to him. He loved life. He was blessed with that gift.

I got to see this amazing man in concert at Radio City Music Hall He did this exact performance However. We were dancing and singing right along with him. He was so freakin awesome. We had an absolutely wonderful time being there with Peter. This audience was brain dead and a completely indifferent group of idiots Peter wrote some amazing songs that live on and on. I saw Boy From Oz twice on Bway. HughJackman was amazing as Peter Allen I forever love Peter Allen

Great popular song published in 1920 called, 'When My Baby Smiles at Me'....Peter made THE best of any such version that encompasses all love.. .what a wild man...what a wild love in Rio!!!!!
Richard Clayderman - I Go To Rio Pablo Cruise - I Go To Rio Claude François - Je Vais à Rio Chocolate - Ritmo De La noche Mystic - Ritmo De La Noche The Sacados - Ritmo De La Noche Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall
By the time the whistle came out it was clear; he was giving us the full ass. Everyone in the front row wore asbestos suits because they knew this man was going to generate flames!
Great perfomance this was a show look how he flipped his legs over the piano priceless. I had know idea nor do I care about his preferences but that performance was & is one of the best for the closing of Midnight Special. They gave us a taste of great artists of that time period. And Peter Allen gave a fantastic performance. Listen closely to the audience when he starts his "peak-a-boo" with his shirt, talent, camp & show for the audience, you got the bang for your buck at his shows.
On this day in 1992 {June 18th} Peter Allen passed away at the young age of 48. He co-composed two #1 hits; "I Honestly Love You" with Jeff Barry, sung by Olivia Newton John, it stayed at #1 for 2 weeks. In 1981 with Burt Bacharack & Carole Bayer Sager he co-wrote "Arthur's Theme", it peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} by Christopher, the song also won an Oscar for 'Best Original Song'. And in 1978 along with Carole Bayer Sager he co-composed Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Aloud", it reached #10.

Hmm he's good at making it look that way but the poor man and his partner died of AIDS, and he didn't let onto audiences that he was unwell...
I hope he regretted the pain he caused Liza
@@marychandler8097That's because A LOT of people are bigots therefore too many gay men don't feel comfortable being themselves, so they have to pretend to be straight, that's what hurt Liza.
Down under we called him "as camp as a row of tents".
But he was loved down here...great showman 🇦🇺🍻
Does this mean that he was “fruity as a bowl of Raisin Bran” ?

Better than other audiences. Like that one where several people died getting trampled due to much excitement over autotune.
I have seen him on top of the piano on several occasions. He could teach Jerry Lee Lewis a thing or two. What a marvelously talented performer he was.
I saw him live at Radio City Music Hall with camels on stage
Unbelievable performer
@@JohnFreedman0 good point, but they could have set the alarm clock that day...but forgot to do so.
He's barely playing the piano. The guy in the background is doing most of the playing.
This guy doesn't go to parties, this guy is the party!
Thats the problem..
Being the party killed him and Freddy Mercury..
What a great performer and a human being. He will be remembered for many years to come..

Me, too! 😁
The man was just so goofy and sweet and his talent infectious. This song is just all over the map and crazy and great.

What's not to love!!?? We just saw Buskin and Bateau last week, and the did one of his songs. It was lovely.
Woke up singing this song in my head. Thank you to Peter Allen for this absolute banger!
I remember the night this aired!!! I love it!!
I could watch this all day, and no I'm not gay, but I am in love with talent, hard work, and a performance that lays it all on the line.
