Absolutely agreed!!! I have heard a lot of people say that the Ruger SR22 is not an accurate pistol but after watching this video I have to totally disagree!!! This pistol is very accurate!!!
I was looking at this ruger today at my local gun shop. I love the way it feels in hand. Thanks for such a indept review, going to go back and pick it up tomorrow.
By the way, with a new pistol, iron sights, three different loads, wind, you should Never apologize for your shooting. You and Greg are scary shooters !!!!! You rock!!!!!
I used to work in a hospital ER, and I have done many shifts in the morgue . Everytime I have assisted with an examination of a person killed with a 22. the bullet was never where the wound was. we had to use an Xray to locate the bullet in the body. also the trauma surgeons said the same thing, they had to go looking for the round. its a wild little bullet, and highy underestimated. its enters the body then bounces around off bones, destroyng tissue, and oragans. 22 LR rocks.
for those of you who don't think .22 is an effective personal defense round, just watch this video over and over. This gun with these HV rounds can put 5 bullets into a bad guy before he can fall to the floor. The bad guy may not be dead, but he sure will stop whatever he had planned. and that's the point.
I keep CCI Mini Mags in my 22A-1 for defensive purposes, it seems to cycle fine, but it definitely likes Federal Bulk the best. Thanks for the heads up on Velocitor, I have never tried it, but will stay away. Mine feeds stingers fine also, I think Mini Mags and Stingers are the top two choices.
You sir are an incredible shot at 50 yards...with a 22 with open sights! I have a Jennings J-22 and from 50 yards I wouldn't be able to hit the woods behind the target let alone the target!!!! lol I just bought a S&W SD9 VE ($379.99) that is the same price as this little gem, so according to the wife I have to wait till X Mass for this one...it will be well worth the wait ! The 9mm gets expensive at the range, but this can be shot all day for a fraction of the price! come on X-Mass !!!!!
I just purchased the sr22 with the silver slide this weekend but i will take it to the range hopefully the following weekend. I also purchased the sd9ve last year and love it. My friend rented the glock19 and i like the sd9 better overall. The only thing better about the g19 was the trigger pull.
Damn time truely changes pricing. I paid 479 plus tax so about 515. Sending mine to ruger today because almost every other bullet is a failure to feed issue and that can't be right out the box with a brand new gun
Pretty impress that you could hit that target fairly accurately from 150 feet away with a pistol. That's a nice little handgun right there. Thanks for posting this.
Instructive and to the point review. Just want to share to all that the Remington 22 Golden Bullet and the 22 Yellow Jacket HP also a match made in heaven with the SR22.
this could make for an interesting test in ballistic gel. there have been people that talk about .22lr for self defense (anything is better than nothing) and several people have different choices for ammo. stinger, velocitor, mini-mag, segmented hollow point, sniper subsonic 60gr, to name a few at least. accuracy testing at 10 yards would be easy enough, it would be interesting to compare the difference between rifle and pistol wound channels too
Thanks a ton for the chrono numbers. I have a Ruger SR22 and love it. I've put about 4000 rounds through it without a single malfunction. I use all three of these rounds and the higher velocity rounds loosing a higher percentage of velocity is a real eye opener. I'll stick with the Velocitor as my hunting and last ditch self defense round. It has the highest muzzle energy and is the most accurate out of my SR22.
Not advocating the use of a .22 lr as a defensive weapon, but it is my number one choice for a survival weapon. I like your video and presentation style and would very much like to see you use CCI's MiniMag, Velocitor, Stinger, and Federal Bulk CPHP in your ballistic sim test fired from this pistol. I have enjoyed your 22 cal. Sim test videos before, but would like to see their performance from a pistol at say 7-10 yards. Many people are talking about carrying this type of weapon as a back up o
@ pgmlml... About barrel length and speed. A 22lr reaches max speed at about 16" in a rifle barrel. So for every inch shorter the barrel is, the slower it is. The same goes for a longer barrel. If your shooting this ammo through a longer barrel it will also slow down. It has to do with how long it takes to burn all of the powder in the case and what ammo your using. That 16" will vary depending on how hot the ammo is. Stingers will probably stretch out to about 18" max speed, and standard velocities will max out at about 14".
Wow, very informative. I knew the velocities would be lower, but I was surprised at the fact there was only about a 60fps spread between the three. I have a friend that bought one of these. It will feed every brand and type of .22lr he has tried were as my Walther is picky, and only likes the higher grades of ammo. Great video friend.
The SR22 is a very good training handgun. You can get way more trigger time shooting a 22lr for your money than even 9mm. It's not a toy, it's a tool that can help with weapon manipulation and trigger control. Using cheap bulk ammo is a great way to do malfunction drills.
Great vid sir. I miss your evaluations. That little Ruger seems pretty reliable. I wish we could buy them in California. It’s not on our “approved “ list. Hope we see more of you.
Velocitor has the most energy as tested. 50yd performance really doesn't mean anything. I bet he could be 10 for 10 at 25yds. I shoot the fiber optic front sight version of the SR22 at 10yds all the time, very accurate.
Whoa, you got some nice muzzle flash with those Stingers! I'm not the biggest fan of Sturm, Ruger... but this seems like a quality firearm. I may have to make this my next purchase (you can never have too many .22s). Your videos are very professional and informative. Nice work!
Great video. Thanks. I would like to see the same basic test with the same handgun, same ammo and add in the 10/22. This would be to show the increase in performance of the ammo due the 23%-25% increase in performance via the longer barrel. I like the idea of having a sidearm and rifle of the same caliber. With my 22's I'll never go hungry. If I have to step up a notch or two I reach for my 357's, 5 shot sidearm and a single shot rifle. I handload for both. Handgun loads differ from the rifle, the rifle can handle hotter loadings due to the very heavy chamber. The 22" barrel really make factory pistol loads sizzle. Paper plate, 50yds, 4" SS target revolver, two handed grip, CCI Mini Mags 40gn rn, 8 shots, all on the plate. Practice. 10/22 same ammo with scope, paper plate at 50, 2" group of 10.
I shot my SR22 for the first time today I shot federal lightning, remington bulk pack copper HP. CCI mini mag plated round nose. Federal plated HP, and cci stingers. I only had one failure to feed out of 500 rounds and that was 1 out of the 50 rounds of cci stinger I shot. For a 22 the reliability is amazing. I didn't have to polish the feed ramp either they got this one right from the factory.
Sweet video! Greatly appreciated! The quality was great the information was great! I've been obsessing over the sr22...I'm gonna have to buy one haha. Thanks again!
Am I correct in saying that for defense, the penetration is more important than the expansion? So if I went with the 40grn mini mag lead round nose, that would be similar to velocitor. I ask cause I have a sr22 and in process of getting lcr22 cause want a revolver. Either or for the wife or I even though I usually use a Glock 26.
Great video! Surprising the amount of drop and it shows there is no need to buy the expensive ammo because you are not going to get a huge increase in velocity.
Sticking with the "Hammer of Thor" for the time being. It's the only round that feeds reliably in my JA-22. I tried the winchester white box which on paper look to be the same round, however I get a few duds and I get a FTE half the time with them. Same goes for Remington Thunderbolts and Federals.
I was having the exact same problem, and sent my SR22 in to Ruger and they said they replaced the "Decock hammer stop". I just received it today, but plan to go test it out soon. If you end up sending in for a repair, don't worry about being without for too long, cause I had mine back 8 days exactly after I sent it in.
Aha! Search feature on your channel works great. I just watched the CCI stinger shot out of the 10/22. But I was curious if you had done any out of a pistol. And I find the exact pistol that I am carrying this load in. So I get to see exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks!
You know CCI velocity specs are based on a longer barrel firearm. 16” I think. You should do a velocity comparison from the sr22 and same box of ammo through a 10/22
Just FYI, I was raised on a cattle ranch/farm back in the 70s. I was paid to eradicate rock chucks and ground squirrels from pastures. I used a Ruger 10-22 and/or a Ruger Mark I Target pistol. The ammo that I used back then was primarily CCI mini-mags 36 gr. HP and two things were apparent; 1. Duds! When the primer compound did not get spun properly into the case rim for reliable ignition. That is still a problem with ALL .22 rimfire ammo regardless who makes it! 2. .22lr could not then, nor now, be relied upon to always anchor 5-6 pound rock chucks even with solid shoulder hits at 25 yards using the 10-22. CCI came out in 77, I believe, with the Stingers in the same 32 grain HP bullet configuration and we tried them on rock chucks... the performance was pathetic! They failed more often to put down the same size rock chucks that than the mini-mags did! So, those were not used for anything but ground squirrels ... Using the .22lr on 180 pound bad guys? Laughable... If chance found me with nothing else with which to defend myself, okay. But to intentionally arm with this caliber? Delusional at best.
yeah i dont think ballistic works the way you plan to make it believe... i have lost countless rabbits and dove with a co2 pelletgun doing less than 5fpe yet two kids in ROTC where playing around with sub 5fpe pellet guns with waddcutters, one shot the other through the heart, instant death... Its all about shot placement and i dont think anyone will want to take a magazine dump of .22
Good to see a pure cci ammo review of the sr22,I have been a fan of the cci brand since they were $2 per hundred.Randy, you will get the advertised velocity out of a rifle,or at least close.Tnoutdoors9/nice effort off hand with a breeze at 50 yards, with a short barreled 22lr semi auto
Amazing. The table you created suggests to me that it's a waste of money to shoot the more expensive velocitors and stingers from pistols in this barrel size range.
Thanks! This was very helpful. I saw some other videos and seems like you have to pick what you want. Do you want the power with some lack of accuracy or I guess a little less power with better accuracy. I will take the accuracy approach. I will get some CCI 36 rain mini mags
What ammo would you run thru this gun mainly? After your measured muzzle velocity I'm torn on what to stockpile lol. I'm really considering buying this little gun. My Glocks are a little expensive to shoot these days. Thanks for the info your videos are really informative and I trust your judgement. thanks again.
Can you Please test CCI mini-mags and stingers out of a pistol into the Sim test media? I am pretty sure that a Stinger will expand, even out of a 2' barrel... Keep up the good work, I think we will all be surprised at the results of the cci-22 handgun Sim test.
Great video, i was wondering how your Ruger SR22 is holding up. I'm trying to do some research and find if the use of CCI Stingers has an effect on the takedown lever breaking on this gun. my SR22 blew up in my hand couple days ago, and it happened using the stingers
I'd love to see the comparison between a rifle barrel and a pistol barrel on a chronograph. Also, you may hate me for this, but it'd seem you were pulling some of the trigger pulls. Either that or you have a secret grudge against that tree on the left.
I just hit my 10" gong 14/16 times with my TX-22(4.1" bbl), from 50 yards, using crappy Winchester M22 ammo. I shoot a lot tho... Can keep sub 3" groups from 10 yards. Great pistol! I LOVE IT!!!!! I wish that you would do a review on one, so everyone can see that Taurus is kicking butt these days. I haven't even shot my AR, since I bought my TX-22. That's saying something!! lol
Have you had any issues with lead fouling in your barrel? If not, what ammo are you shooting. Less than 200 rounds through my brand new TX yesterday and totally fouled the barrel. Nothing but keyholes. Shooting Rem. Thunderbolt. :(
The higher power CCI loads use slower powder, really optimized for longer barrels. The Stinger's like an exceptionally long barrel for a .22, around 20 inches in my experience.
Next to "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" the argument "Is rimfire and acceptable CCW caliber?" is easily number two on the list of never ending, non-conclusive arguments. But when I see you knocking out ten accurate chest shots in under five seconds at twenty yards I can't help but think this little gun can stop an assailant. I sure wouldn't charge you if you had that thing pointed at me!
I really like and appreciate your work. Your videos are always informative and professional. Thank you. BTW, I found your UA-cam cannel through Hickok45, I know you are a good friend of him and his son John.....I enjoy both your channels. You are good people.
Great review!! So I have a question! How do you like the new Ruger Sr22? I've been thinking about getting one because I like the looks of this one better. Oh and from your experience what type of ammo would you recommend for it that works best? Thank you.
understand that the principle he stated at 2:00 was because the highest velocity round decreased velocity percentage the most BECAUSE ITS THE LIGHTEST BULLET
Try cci ar, I had lots of light loads out of a 325 bulk pack. Idk if its the gun or the ammo maybe a little bit of both. That speed bump on the frame doesn't help and powder puff loads that would normally blow back the bolt on my m&p 15-22 seem to be to weak to get the sr22 slide over that frame bump. You have encountered the same or similar problems? Other than that I love the pistol! I shot the eye put of a zombie big splatter target at 25 yards w/ 10 rds. Was very pround of myself! ...lol
some complained about the sr22's long trigger pull and that it failed or broke after 4000 rounds...maybe it braking might just be an isolated case?...and is the trigger pull really noticeable or manageable?...and is it worth buying?... thanks...btw nice channel!!..more power to you..
50 yd. shooting.... that was great shooting. Nice Ruger... I kinda fancy it....maybe by the end of the yr. I'll get me one... if the world is still here..LOL Good Video
I've used the CCI 36 grain ammo,Blazer Bulk Pak ammo & The Federal 36 grain Bulk pack ammo,,nothing high powered which Ruger recommends,,with cheaper rounds,of course I have had some failures to feed but when I put them back in,they fire,,seems like from the vids of damaged SR22's,,they used the high powered rounds,,as far as accuracy,,CCI 36 rain mini mags seemed to be right on the spot,,hope this helps.
I have both the Walther P22, and the Ruger SR 22. Both are very good guns, but they both have some issues that I won't go into here. The Walther P22 will simply not function reliably with anything except the high, and ultra velocity ammo. The Ruger will take whatever you put in it. I haven't tried any of the Russian made 22LR ammo in either of them. That stuff is notoriously dirty, but I suspect the Ruger will digest it as well, at least until it completely gums it up. The Walther would likely choke up on the first shot.
Great review so I bought one, I like the small grip best, with large one I was getting some hammer bit. Also my SR22 hates Blazer ammo. Four boxes shot and about 20 rounds went wild and key-holed. I then shot a 525 box of Federal bulk with no problems. I guess it's stick with what works
Not sure what this video is supposed to be presenting. Muzzle velocity is kinda helpful, even though you provide a handgun short barrel test against the longer rifle barrel standard FPS numbers. Other than that, this was pretty much just a demonstration of your shooting skills. Pretty good as they are.
I have a couple of sr22s. They will cycle anything but subsonic ammo. However, bulk ammo is just cheap ammo. Expect a dud or two ever hundred or so. I only count my CCI ammo and have only one failure to fire (CCI 36 grain minimal) a second pull of the trigger and it fired.
@Dietzeeeee My browning buckmark has ran everything, and has been 100% straight out of the box. The only issues I ever had was some of the exceptionally bad federal bulk packs from walmart. Since those have largely been replaced with winchester bulk packs, it's ran ad reliable as my glocks, sigs, and 1911s. Quite an amazingly reliable gun, it still shocks me at the range.
@skyhop I noticed that. I have recently really taken an interest in 22LR. I have been mostly a center-fire rifle and handgun guy before that but I can shoot so much more for so much less $ I also just got a ruger 10-22 for $100 I swapped out the extractor claw for a "sharp" after market one changed the bolt stop and get an extended mag release that thing runs like a charm.
Great video, thanks for it. I shoot rem yellow jackets, rem golden, mini mags and stingers through my Mosquito. The stingers are by far the best for me overall.
Let me get this straight. There's a case length difference between the CCI stingers and the CCI MiniMags? If that's the case, (pun intended) they're depending on pressure retention. In short barrel guns, if you want more velocity, you need more pressure since the pressure curve is near- hyperbolic.
In the 1991 BJS Survey of State Inmates, about 8% of the inmates reported that they had owned a military-type weapon, such as an Uzi, AK-47, AR-15,or M-16. Less than 1% said that they carried such a weapon when they committed the incident for which they were incarcerated. A Virginia inmate survey conducted between November 1992 and May 1993 found similar results: About 10% of the adult inmates reported that they had ever possessed an assault rifle, but none had carried
Great video! I just got a Ruger Mark III standard 6" and was wondering which CCI would be the best choice for this pistol - - the Velocitor seems to be a good choice but would it cause premature wear and tear? I would like to benefit from your knowledge and/or experience with the Mark III. Thanks, John Patterson Crossville, TN
No, but KelTec did make ONE that was a submachine gun, just to test the feeding of the 30rd magazine. Look it up it's somewhere on UA-cam. That thing has a blazing fast cyclic rate. I'd guess somewhere north of 800rds/min. It would be awesome if they put that thing into production!
Mini mag 36gr - 81 ft. lbs
Stinger 32gr. - 82 ft lbs.
Velocitor 40gr. - 92 ft lbs
Thank you for not having long who cares 2 minute ego intro
50yds with a 22 pistol. is no easy task. good shooting!
Absolutely agreed!!! I have heard a lot of people say that the Ruger SR22 is not an accurate pistol but after watching this video I have to totally disagree!!! This pistol is very accurate!!!

It would be good to update this video with the new Ruger sr22 with 4.5 inches barrel. Should be very interesting how much increase is gain.
Pretty impress that you could hit that target fairly accurately from 150 feet away with a pistol. That's a nice little handgun right there. Thanks for posting this.
Great video. Well done!! Just got my SR22 a week ago can’t wait to get it to the range.

I find with .22lr that the faster the bullet the less accurate it is. My SR22 needs CCI or any hot load to function.

Yes, this is one of the nicest .22 pistols, along with the S&W M&P22
Again awesome clarity of voice and picture....your data review and attention to detail......fantastic....I want an sr 22 after seeing this....

I realy like your videos . They're well shot , realy informative , and your commentary is easy to listen to yet to the point ....well done :)
The Velocitor 40 gr is definitely the best choice for a 22 LR pistol. It has the highest energy. It was the only one to surpass 100 ft-lbs
You do great videos. Really in-depth and thorough
I shot my SR22 for the first time today I shot federal lightning, remington bulk pack copper HP. CCI mini mag plated round nose. Federal plated HP, and cci stingers. Your video parts 1 and 2 on the Sr 22 was very good! Thanks for all the thorough info.
Great review! Just wondering what the velocities are out of a long gun. Are they more along the lines of what is advertised?
Sweet video! Greatly appreciated! The quality was great the information was great! I've been obsessing over the sr22...I'm gonna have to buy one haha. Thanks again!
Another excellent rundown - Thx...!
VERY informative as are all of your videos!
If I was using a SR22 for self-defense I would chose the CCI Velocitor. Heavier projectile and still high FPS.
agree 100%
Or the 40 grain solid mini-mag
Am I correct in saying that for defense, the penetration is more important than the expansion? So if I went with the 40grn mini mag lead round nose, that would be similar to velocitor. this is my backup setup exactly, the SR22p and Velocitors.... flawless operation and high ballistics for a 22lr
Stingers penetrate more
I enjoy all of your reviews. Thanks and keep them going.
Great video! Surprising the amount of drop and it shows there is no need to buy the expensive ammo because you are not going to get a huge increase in velocity.
i buy only 40 graine Winchester never had an issue.
this video makes me apreciate my 5.5" bull berrel Ruger 22/45 target pistol ; )
Great Video

i'm so happy we have tndoudoors9 and hickok45 here on youtube. between the two of them we have about all we can ask for.
I was having the exact same problem, and sent my SR22 in to Ruger and they said they replaced the "Decock hammer stop". I just received it today, but plan to go test it out soon. thanks for great vid ! i smiled when i saw you firing the sr22 (i just got one) using cci stringers. it appears i made two good buys. i'm a newbie.
Your land is beautiful. Love your trees.

Nice review.
Great video! Definitely be watching more from this channel. Got a bid on a SR22 right now.
Love your videos. This pistol is likely my next purchase. Thank you for the information in both vids.
Thanks for the fps-test; interesting how much energy get's lost using a pistol than a rifle!
Amazing. The table you created suggests to me that it's a waste of money to shoot the more expensive velocitors and stingers from pistols in this barrel size range.
You should test federal punch out the sr22
If you hold to the right side of the target I think the wind coming from right to left played a roll in the missed shots.
Thanks! This was very helpful. I saw some other videos and seems like you have to pick what you want. Do you want the power with some lack of accuracy or I guess a little less power with better accuracy. I will take the accuracy approach. I will get some CCI 36 rain mini mags
keep it up, i loved the .22 and the foster slug ballistic test videos
What ammo would you run thru this gun mainly? After your measured muzzle velocity I'm torn on what to stockpile lol. I'm really considering buying this little gun. My Glocks are a little expensive to shoot these days. Thanks for the info your videos are really informative and I trust your judgement. thanks again.
Excellent review and analysis.
Can you Please test CCI mini-mags and stingers out of a pistol into the Sim test media? I am pretty sure that a Stinger will expand, even out of a 2' barrel... Keep up the good work, I think we will all be surprised at the results of the cci-22 handgun Sim test.
Thank you for the great vids as always! Keep them coming!
Nice video..... love the gun and the Stingers!!!
90 rounds and not one misfire or hang up. I am sold.
This pistol has had my eye for awhile now,,,,it's only a matter of time ! Lol Great job ! 😁🖒🇺🇸
The high velocity 22 short doesn't lose much velocity out of a pistol. I think the weapon choices are limited though. The Beretta Minx comes to mind.

And a more progressive powder which needs a longer barrel to be burnt completely
@@pericodelospalotes5738 Those flames really make it worth the price of admission tho. Can't wait to shoot them at night time.
Very nice review video here. Thanks
i have the sr22 with stingers as a personal carry when i want to carry light,, also have 1 as a safe queen,,, love the sr22
You always made some good video, Can you try some CCI Subsonic HP on the SR22 pistol will be nice..
This video helps me a lot, just put a deposit on the sr22 I heard its fussy with its ammo, I will have to learn all this by trying it out.
My sr22 will also eat just about any ammo. The sr22 is my conceal carry gun with CCI Segmented Hyper ammo.
I don't have a good holster for carrying my sr22 concealed. Can you recommend one? I prefer outside the waistband or ankle holster.
@Dietzeeeee
My browning buckmark has ran everything, and has been 100% straight out of the box.
Good job! The numbers were pretty interesting.
Isn't the advertised velocity measured at the muzzle from the manufacturer? Cool pistol :) 50 yards with a pistol is pretty good. Nice video!
In the 1991 BJS Survey of State
Inmates, about 8% of the inmates
reported that they had owned a
military-type weapon, such as an Uzi,
AK-47, AR-15,or M-16. Less than
1% said that they carried such a
weapon when they committed the
incident for which they were incarcerated. A Virginia inmate survey conducted between November 1992 and
May 1993 found similar results:
About 10% of the adult inmates reported that they had ever possessed
an assault rifle, but none had carried
Great video! I just got a Ruger Mark III standard 6" and was wondering which CCI would be the best choice for this pistol - - the Velocitor seems to be a good choice but would it cause premature wear and tear? I would like to benefit from your knowledge and/or experience with the Mark III.
Thanks,

No, but KelTec did make ONE that was a submachine gun, just to test the feeding of the 30rd magazine. Look it up it's somewhere on UA-cam. That thing has a blazing fast cyclic rate. I'd guess somewhere north of 800rds/min.
It would be awesome if they put that thing into production!
I haven't tried Velocitors or Stingers in my SR22 yet. Maybe I will next time.
Good stuff. I hope you are enjoying this firearm.
Yeah the guy at wal-mart said the stingers are not for pistols. Nice shooting..
