I have an old Excell I'm going to do this upgrade because the pump is sucking air some where. Pressure is inconsistent. It's 20 years old. Thanks for showing me how.
Thank you so much, Patty! I appreciate that kind comment and thank you for watching! This pump upgrade is the best thing I ever did to this pressure washer.
Dennis, Thanks for featuring one of our pumps! We do offer both the pump alone as well as with a keyway or other desired accessories. Thank you for showing the gap and how to resolve it. Because it is not the same bolting, this gap can occur on a select number of models. Without realizing this gap could exist, a customer could break one of the legs off, so when you show people to dry-fit the unit, it is some great advice! We are happy it worked for you and we do hope you will order from us again. We now have our own website with free regular shipping within the lower 48 states. God bless and stay rugged!
Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback! Your pump has made a huge difference in the operation of my pressure washer and many others as well. With your pump, this unit is better than new! Thanks for a great product at an affordable price. It's nice to get positive feedback from the manufacturer, I appreciate that!
Thanks, Dennis, for saving me hundreds of $$. I knew nothing about pressure washers until I saw this. I was this close to buying a new one an hour earlier. Mine broke and unloader valves aren't available any more. I thought it was toast. But fixing it was easy once you showed me how. Clear views, good instruction, no stupid background music (thank you for that). Nice video. And super useful links. I used them and found an open box new pump for $63! That's a lot less than the $350 I almost spent at TS today!
Wow, it was like having an advisor standing right next to you as my power washer was the exact one you worked on. The replacement was precisely as described - I did remove all the shroud and stuff as you did Dennis and I like it much better now! It works better than new. THANK YOU so much for taking the stress out of the changeover.
Picked one of these power washers up at a yard sale the other day thinking I had walked away with a deal for $100. I got it home and hooked it up and it was more like a sprinkler than a power washer! Looks like all the seals and even the thermal bypass had failed! It's a shame because the engine, frame and hose and sprayer are all in really really good condition. So, Dennis, you've really saved the day with this video. I ordered the parts and with any luck they'll be here this weekend. While I have it apart I think I'll also replace the cracked up tires with some pneumatics, repaint some rust spots on the frame and mount a container for soap on it somewhere. Figure I might as well soup it up if I'm gonna spend a few hundred on it.
Thanks for watching, Logarth! I'm glad this helped salvage the washer. I like my pressure washer with this new pump more than I ever did with the factory pump on it. Sounds like you will be all set when you're finished!
This is the first video I have ever commented on. I had the same power washer.......followed your video step by step. Your order of procedures and parts made it foolproof. Thank you for posting the video with the info on correct parts to get
Hey Dennis I had the exact same model with the same problems, leaking out of the pump with no pressure. I was fortunate enough to find your video and I used your link to order the pump. I got the key from Ace Hardware for .65 cents. I followed your video and installed my new pump and like you, the power washer is better than new!! Although the pump is more expensive $90 bucks, I am happy with the new machine!! Like you, I left off all the plastic shroud where I can get to all the connections. Thanks again for taking the time to do your video, I felt like you were my neighbor helping me out!
Thanks for watching! I have never liked this pressure washer as much as I do now that I've changed the pump. It's like a brand new machine that works better and is easier! I'm glad this helped and glad you got your pressure washer going!
Thanks for the video instructions. I have the same pressure washer and the pump had a crack on the outlet so I could not get any pressure. Tried to replace the pump but the pump was discontinued from the manufacturer. Looked around and came across this video. I ordered the pump on EBAY and installed and tested. It works, no leak and good pressure. Will try it out in the coming weeks. I think I spent more time to look for the 3/8” bolts than the time I installed the pump credited with this video. Thank again for taking the time to do the video. Be safe.
Thanks for this video ! I have this same set up but forgot to remove the high pressure hose before storage and it froze over winter and cracked the pump housing. Normally I would scrap it but it is a gift from my brother who is no longer with us and am determined to keep it going. That Honda motor starts everytime ! ! Great how to video ! Thanks again !
I had the same thing happen to me, which is initially what got me looking for another pump. haha. Thanks for watching, I love mine with this new pump on it.
Thank you sir. I had a tough time matching the four bolt pattern on mine. I am going to do the same thing you did and remove the shroud. I'm also getting the 2" 3/8 16 bolts. Your video was very informative and not dragged out. Straight to the point and explained plenty. Hunts
Thank you for your excellent how-to video. When I looked up replacement pumps for my VR2522, I balked when I saw they all looked so different from the original. But your video showed me it was not going to be a hack job and would be fairly simple. One little snag was the pre-cut key was not square and had to be filed down to fit. The most annoying thing was getting those stupid plastic rivets out of the plastic shroud (which has been discarded.) My pump works great now.
I am happier with my pressure washer after the conversion than I ever was with the original pump. I'm glad this was helpful to you. Thank you for watching!
Another helpful video. I have a power washer that has lost a lot of pressure. I was thinking about buying a new washer, but after watching this video, I’ll spend the $80 and give that a try. My pump mounts on the back of engine instead of underneath it, so the pump might be a little easier to replace on my washer. So far today, watching three of your videos has really helped me solve some problems.
Thank you for watching, Jack! I really appreciate the support. I was never a fan of my pressure washer until I replaced the pump. This new pump has me loving this washer now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to video the pump replacement. My pump failed a couple of days ago. Just ordered the replacement that you installed. I plan on removing the shroud also. Your video just made life easier for me. Thanks again and God bless.
Thanks for watching, Ron! You're going to love this new pump. I never liked the pressure washer as much as I do after making this change. Let me know how it goes!
Ace hardware had the square 3/16" key stock available in 2" long pieces. Only $1.69 ea. Ordered the pump off Amazon and waiting for it to arrive. Great video, much appreciated!!
Excellent video! Thank you, Dennis. I will be doing the exact same thing when I get the pump. Very much appreciated! Update I just finished putting mine back together with the new pump today. Thanks for all your insight. I didn't need any washers above my 2" bolts. The pump needed to go up tight as possible. I started it up and it works great! I especially appreciated the tip to not cross thread those new bolts, so I was very careful.
Great Video AAA+++ Keep in mind that BEFORE you connect your water supply, MAKE SURE you get the required static & dynamic pressure and flow rate from your supply hose. For example, your pump may require 2.5 GPM (gallons per minute) and a minimum pressure of 20 PSI. You may have a static house pressure of 80 PSI, but when the water is flowing at 2.5 GPM, the dynamic pressure may drop to 20 PSI. For the flow rate, use a bucket and measure how fast it fills to 2.5 gallons.
A very well done and helpful video. One suggestion though for a modification to the process shown that I found makes things easier: Rather than installing the pump with the unit tilted back on its side, start by placing the motor completely upside down on a bench, then position the frame on top of it, and finally slide the pump over the shaft and line up the bolts and spacers. By doing the install with the entire unit upside down you are allowing gravity to do the work for you rather than working against it by installing at an angle. Just be sure once installed you let the unit sit right side up for a while to allow the oil to drain back down into the sump before starting. Thanks again and hope this helps!
I used blue loktite on the 3 bolts holding the pump on the motor. Felt like those had some thread locker on them on removal. Easy DIY upgrade! Thanks again for the vid!! Also used some 1/2" EMT conduit to make a couple axle spacers so the wheels don't wobble.
Awesome video…. I have the same power washer and need to replace the pump. I’m ordering a pump today. This will be a great project for me and my son-in-law to work on next week when he is in town. Thanks again.
Wow... thanks Dennis, with your instruction I was only in Home Depot 5 Minutes and it only take me 40 minutes to complete the job... I owe you big, I have one just like it and I almost took it to the junkyard.
Same!! I was ready to pitch mine. The only thing that saved it was I really like that Honda engine. I'm glad I found that replacement pump....I've never liked this pressure washer as well as I do now with the new pump and without the shroud. Thanks for watching, Bryan!
Thanks for the video. i must have missed the part about the 3/16 square key for the Briggs and Stratton engine on mine. I needed to file the key down to 3/16 square to make it fit, but finally got it on and it works perfect. Thanks for the instructions.
Thanks for the tutorial. I just bought a used Excell PW and was worried about how long the pump would last not knowing the history. Comfortable with the Honda engine, but now I know it will be simple pump replace/upgrade if needed. Sounds like I made a good $75 buy. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching, JD! I wish I had known about these pumps sooner, I would have replaced my original a long time ago. This thing is so much nicer to operate, better pressure, etc with the new pump. You got a great deal...even if you replace the pump, you still have less than $200 in it!
I'll consider myself lucky that I have the exact same pressure washer and now I can fix it with ease! Thanks for the great video, it was well produced, and you were well spoken and very articulate about all the steps! Ordering parts now - thanks again!
Excellent, thank you. I have the exact same Excell unit and I could not find a replacement for the original style piston pump. Definitely going to upgrade as you have shown.
Your tutorial was clear, concise and very logical. I am going to order the parts now that I have the knowledge (from you) and the confidence to do this project. I've never liked that plastic shroud either. Thank you very much!
The other set up you may encounter is removing a screw and inside there's a jet itself I believe and the same idea, clean it up and put it back in and then when you start it up, you'll no longer have that up and down engine rpm surge. I look forward to watching your next video. Thanks again.
You are a great teacher and I like your information and the way you can truly anticipate what you need to make it work. Very impressive 👍! You are truly a great teacher! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
After having so many pumps crack in between the three valves, I started getting the ones with brass at the valves. The aluminum cracks under pressure at startup if the pressure washer has been sitting or if using bad water. Paying the extra $20-$30 for a brass one is well worth it and you'll never have to replace the pump for a long time. I even had a new 2700 Pressure Washer (used once and left sitting) that was leajing and too expensive to repair given to me.
Thanks Dennis! My strap pump failed and I was looking at replacement options. I came across your video and it was very helpful. I have measured and it should fit. I am installing it on a Delta DTH2450 psi with a Honda GCV160 5.5 hp. I'll update this comment after I attempt to install it.
Excellent, just excellent video. Very informative with all aspects of replacing the pump. I replaced mines without issues using your video. GREAT JOB!!!!
I'm glad this helped! This replacement pump has been great....I like my pressure washer now better than I ever did with the factory pump on it. Thank you for watching!
I was trying to adjust the unloader valve on the factory pump, but it looks like it doesn't have one. That's when I ran across your video. It looks like I will be replacing the pump thanks to you. Great video!
Thanks for watching, Igor! You are correct, the original pump does not have an unloader valve, only a surge hose. This replacement pump I used is so much better than the original.
@@dwcoffey I have this same pressure washer 2522 I got for free from a friend the thing fires up and engine runs well and water runs through it but as soon as I let go of the trigger the hose gets extremely stiff and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do that it seems like if I let it go too long it almost seems like it would blow up and the engine bogs down like it is still under load. Is that originally how it was supposed to work? As soon as I let go with the trigger it freaks me out that somethings going to blow up! What would you recommend doing I’d hate to just get rid of this it seems like a nice machine.
My unloader broke down. Thought on getting one no matter how hard it is . but honestly you make it look so easy and I'll just go with this.. Great video. Really helpful!
Hey Mario, I'd be concerned about the engine handling 3100psi. Although, there is only a slight difference between the 2500psi original pump and this 2800psi pump I installed. I suppose if the 3100psi pump you are looking at can be adjusted...you could try it. If it is too much for the engine, reduce the pressure. I spent all afternoon today using my washer with the new pump. I can really tell a difference in how fast I can work with this new pump. 3100psi would be really nice if it runs well with it.
Thank you i have exactly the same one I removed everything and I haven’t put it back because the pump on Amazon the mounting screws are in different location haha so was worried i cannot find the exact one.. now i know thanks to you sir! And yes i got rid of the shroud they are pain.. thank you again
I agree....that shroud was just annoying. I really like this pressure washer since I've removed the shroud and replaced the pump. Thanks for watching, Ronnie!
Thank you much, for help with little details that dry one nuts. I never would have figured out those 27Thorx screws. One little clue: and oscillating tool will/did make short work of that plastic shroud.
Directions were great I had a difficult time keeping keyway in place during pump installation I applied a couple of drops of super glue and problem solved Thanks for your help
Thanks for watching, Ronald! I had to replace my surge hose last year, the cheapest I could find it was around $25. When the pump starting leaking around one of the pistons this year, I looked up parts to repair it. The parts cost more than this replacement pump. I ran this new pump for about 4 hours yesterday is was great! I can tell the difference in the the pressure and no problems like that old pump. Now I just hope it holds up, but so far, so good!
Dennis Coffey the parts came a few days ago and it was a very easy and quick repair thanks to this video and I had it up and running in about 25 minutes!!
That's great, Ronald! I've used mine several times already with the new pump, and I wish I had done this a long time ago! I'm loving this pressure washer now!
I agree you do a great job in explaining how to upgrade this pressure washer.i also Hate the plastic covering it keeps noise down but it a hotel for spiders and hard to take off and harder to put on. Ps.I love that old strap pump most still working long after 50 hour design!
Thanks for watching, David! Yea, I agree....amazing that it kept running as long as it did. I really like this new pump though.....smoother, consistent pressure, etc.
Thanks for watching, Matt! I love this pressure washer since I did this upgrade. Its like a brand new machine that is easier and better to operate than it was when new.
for all those following this the key stock on amazon is not 3/16 square and will have the be filed down to a square which is a pain. Highly recommend just buying a 3/16 square key from small engine shop. Caused me to need a new shaft seal on my engine and I had to do this all twice.
Thank you for that, Jeff. I changed the link to a 2" key that is known to be the correct size. It comes from the same supplier as the pump. I appreciate you watching and for the feedback!
Thank you for watching, Rolando! That's how I ended up replacing mine. The parts to rebuild the piston pump were more than this new pump. I wish I had done it a long time ago. The new pump works better, gives me more pressure and makes the engine easier to start because it has an unloader valve.
AWESOME Video!!! AAA+++ This new pump worked great. I wish I could post some Pics - I have a couple suggestions: 1) screw in the Thermal Valve first, before you mount the pump. 2) I used a Dremmel with a cutting wheel to cut out a front section of the top plastic cover, (after I completely removed the small front & bottom section), 3) I put a flat board behind the top engine shroud and in front of the red handles - this held the engine in place when I tipped it back and removed/replaced the engine bolts. FYI - Google removed the American Flag from the emoji list and replaced it with a pride flag 😪😟
Thank you for the detailed video, Sir. I followed it to the T and have a new machine thanks to your fine instructions. . I love your easy delivery and will be subscribing.
Yes sir! Thank you for watching! I know what you mean....when I upgraded mine, I was amazed at how much better it now performs. I wish I had done this ages ago!
Great video I think I'm in need of a new pump or a rebuilding of the existing pump. I have on my Briggs & Stratton pressure washer.. I couldn't help but notice the engine rpm up & down or better, known as hunting. It looked like you had a Honda engine, which is also what I currently have as well. Tho the engine hunting does not affect it the longevity of your engine it can be annoying to a DIY er such as yourself. The way to fix the engine rpm up and down is there should be a small screw with a Phillips number 2 head near the carburetter bowl. There' are 2 different types of set ups in order for you to get out that screw and remove it but you probably won't have to remove the carburetter, when you remove the screw you'll either find nothing inside of it but a hole and if you take a micro hand drill about 13,000" and gingerly, mimic a drill bit back-and-forth. Eventually, you'll poke through that clog of ethanol in that jet, and then you could blow it out with some compressed air or better yet carburetter cleaner and compressed air.
Dennis...long time sub. ya got the inginuity and knowhow to fix the things.... I have a few around here....fix em and give em away cause. $400 for a new one...folks cant afford. just paying it forward .
Thank you for watching, as always, Bobby!! I appreciate your support. I agree....this new pump made a world of difference on this pressure washer and way more affordable than a new one!
Excellent video. Very well done. Thank you so much!!!! Update: Got my pump off amazon. I found a kit that included the key and bolts. Interestingly enough, my pump inputs and outputs are on the back side of the machine. Not sure if the pump I got is different or the engine is different. Still works great regardless. Thanks again!
Hey Gavin, I had the same "problem." I purchased the exact pump. The pump only mounts to the frame and engine where the hoses exit the rear. There are 3 bolts on the vert top and 4 bolts on the pump housing that hold the bottom and the top portions of the pump body together. I watched another youtube video: ua-cam.com/video/EE0P0_kxjNg/v-deo.html and learned that the pump can be taken apart, the bottom mounting legs rotated 180 degrees and put back together!! Now the hoses exit the front of the unit!! check this out! ua-cam.com/video/EE0P0_kxjNg/v-deo.html there are 2 parts to the video
Thanks for the instructions, although my Ryobi 3000/2.5 replacement pump bolts up horizontally. Hey, sounds like your motor carb could use some cleaning. Hope you and your family are in good health and enjoying lives. :-)
Thanks for watching, Teddy! Yes, it could....the governor on this thing has always been weird, but a good cleaning will defnitely smooth it out a bit. Thanks again!
Excellent video. However the instructions for the pump call for a 1/4" by 3/16" key, but that will not work on a VR 2522. I tried and tried and tried to get it to work, but it just won't fit. Another person commented on the same thing. I went to a local hardware store and got a 3/16 square x 1-1/2" piece of key stock and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for watching, Trent. You’re correct, that’s why I show using a 3/16” square x 1” key. Also have a link in the description for that. Some engines might have a deeper key way for a 1/4 x 3/16 key to work, but mine does not, so I don’t know why they recommend that size. Glad you got yours going!
Trent I had the same problem with the key that was ordered which was a 3/16 x 1/4. The key was just too large for the channel and pump on a Briggs and Stratton engine. I tried everything to get the pump to slide on the shaft even putting it in the freezer to "shrink" it, but it still would not fit. I ended up filing off about 1/16 of the 1/4 sodes to make it fit. Finally got the pump to slide on the shaft. Next time i will make sure i get a 3/16 x 3/16 square key for the pump, or use the old key if possible.
@@dwcoffey Thanks for the video. it was very informative, but a Briggs and Stratton engine needs a 3/16 square key. The 3/16 x 1/4 key needed to be filed down to 3/16 square to make it fit.
Thanks for watching, Elizabeth! The bolts that hold the pump to the frame also hold the engine to the frame. So, once you remove the pump, the engine is loose. You could definitely do the replacement without lifting the engine, you just have to do it from underneath and be careful not to lean on the engine etc. or it will possibly slide.
Great video. I have an old Honda PWH2500 and the pump bearing and housing have broken. I wasn't sure if the outer engine mounting holes would match these replacement pumps but after watching your video I think I'll go ahead and buy one. They seem to be a bit more expensive here in the UK. The only one I can find is on Amazon.co.uk at £99.99 but I think it would be worth it. By the way my engine is a Honda GCV 160. I'm not sure if that's what yours is but it looks very similar. Thanks, Kenny.
Thanks you for watching, Kenny! Yes sir, the engine on mine is the same Honda 160. I have never liked this pressure washer as much as I do now with this new pump. I do find that I have to let the engine warm up a bit longer (maybe 5-10 minutes) before running the pump. I suppose the new pump requires a bit more power to run, but after the engine is warmed up, this thing rocks! Let me know how your replacement goes, hopefully you'll see results similar to mine.
@@dwcoffey Thanks for your reply. You've got me thinking now. The one I was looking at is rated at 3100psi max. Do you think it would work if I adjusted the unloader valve a little to reduce the pressure? It's marketed by Waspper but the name on the pump is Himore. When I looked on the Waspper website they had two versions of the same pump, one with a brass head which was nearly double the price of the one with the ordinary head (Aluminium I think) There's another one on Amazon by Yamatic which is rated 2900psi max, 2300psi normal. Only problem is they don't ship to my address (Northern Ireland) Not sure what to do now. I might take a chance on the cheap one from Waspper. Probably cost me about £60 including postage.
I'd be concerned about that engine handling a 3100psi pump, but....the one I installed is a 2800psi pump. So, you might be on to something....if you adjust the unloader valve a bit, it might be fine. I wish I could say for sure, but I can't with any degree of certainty. Mine runs fine once warmed up and doesn't stall at all, but I also feel like if the pump was running any higher pressure, it might.
@@dwcoffey Hi Dennis. Good news. I got the pump fitted and it's working great. The engine seems to be handling it OK. I think the psi ratings on some of these pumps are a bit inflated anyway. I agree with you; the pressure is better now than it ever was with the original pump. One very slight problem. The only way the pump would fit was with the connectors pointing backwards which means the axel is slightly in the way but I can live with that. Also I did a stupid thing when fitting it. The detergent inlet was in the way for getting the long extension onto one of the bolts so I screwed it out and I must have put it back in wrong cos when I started the machine the water was spraying out of it. When I screwed it out again I couldn't find the spring and ball so I got one of the balls out of the old broken bearing and used it to block the valve. Probably means that the detergent inlet won't work now but I never use it anyway. Thanks again for your video. You saved me a heap of money. Keep up the good work, Kenny.
I haven't tried the detergent port yet...next time I have the pressure washer out, I'll try to remember to take that port apart and at least see how it goes together, and get back with you. Glad you got it working! Thanks again for your support, Kenny!
Great job I think I can do that thank you, I was thinking of just replacing mine I will look into this, nice project Thanks for your time and effort as always stay safe stay well God bless....
Hey Danny! Thanks and thanks for watching. That's exactly what I was going to do....one of my son's works at a power equipment shop, so I was thinking about buying a new pressure washer. I ran across this replacement pump online and an $80 pump versus a new $600 pressure washer convinced me that I can get a little more life out of this one! haha. The Honda engine runs like a champ, I was just having problems with the pump. So far, this new pump is great!
Great video Dennis! I just bought a VR2522 at a garage sale. Just finished rebuilding the carburetor. Or now runs great! Now for the pump. I noticed the pulse hose had a break, so I will replace that. I noticed you replaced the wheels and shaft. Mind sharing how you did that sir? Thank you.
Thank you for watching! This replacement pump uses an unloader valve rather than a surge hose like the original pump (one of the reasons I like this replacement pump). The original surge hose will hold water, if the water freezes, it pops the hose. When I replaced the pump, I removed the plastic shroud housing around the pump. Then I picked up a couple of wheels at Harbor Frieght....I think they have a 5/8" diameter bore. I had a piece of 5/8" rod stock, just cut it to length and drilled a hole through the shaft in each end for cotter pins. I put a large fender washer behind and in front of each wheel. I hope that helps!
@@dwcoffey Thank You Dennis, Now that the surge hose has been replaced, When I release pressure from the gun, the line builds up pressure and the engine stops. What am I doing wrong here? I plan on doing the conversion you demonstrate but I will have to do that another time. What I'm concerned about conversion or not, the engine stalls once pressure is built up in the line when the gun is not used. What would you do to fix this? Thank you.
Not sure, but sounds like too much surge for the engine. Maybe try cutting a longer length of hose for the surge hose. That might absorb more of the surge and do the trick? Just a guess.
Hey Dennis, very good how too. I followed your tutorial and installed a new pump. Problem! The injector nozzle pumps water into the detergent tank rather than drawing detergent from the tank into the pump. Have you had this problem? Have notified seller-no response yet.
Thank you for watching! I have not seen that problem before, it does sound like a problem with the pump. Hopefully you've heard back from the seller and got it resolved.
Just did this today to mine went into Home Depot looking for square stock the guy said it would be easier to get the right key I said nope I just need 2 inches and good to go got it washing today only thing I’m wondering do all those models idle like that it seems like it shouldn’t keep going up and down but
Thanks for watching, Jordan! Glad you got it going! I love this new pump on mine, it's like a brand new pressure washer. The governor on these Honda engines seem to do that a lot.....I'm sure there's a way to adjust the governor so doesn't change the engine speed so much, but I haven't gotten into it yet. I might tackle that and make a video! Seems like it should only respond to a load (when there is demand from the pump) and not change the idle speed so much. Mine has always done that, and it won't hurt anything, but it does seem weird.
Thanks for watching, Wanda! Often, the surge hose either gets weak and splits or freezes and splits. You could try patching it with a hose clamp, that might get you running temporarily, but the hose should be replaced.
Thanks for watching, bubba! My old pump didn’t have an unloader on it, it used a surge hose (just a short piece of hose, capped at the end). I tossed it when I replaced it.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching! Here's the link: amzn.to/3cG6AFD There are links to other items you may need in the video description also. Thanks again!
Hey, I really appreciate your video. I’m trying to replace the pump on the exact same machine for my father. The only problem I’m running into is that the pump I bought only mounts with the nozzles coming out the back of the machine. I thought this was a defect from the manufacturer, like they had installed the bottom half of the pump backwards but every pump I’ve looked at is no different. The only way it will mount is backwards. If I line it up with the nozzles facing forward, only one bolt will match the pattern. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks for watching, Michael! I'm sorry but I am only familiar with the pump I purchased. I did a fair amount of research before I found this one and actually went with it because it had good reviews and bolted up directly to the engine on this pressure washer.
Hey Michael, I had the same "problem." I purchased the exact pump. The pump only mounts to the frame and engine where the hoses exit the rear. There are 3 bolts on the vert top and 4 bolts on the pump housing that hold the bottom and the top portions of the pump body together. Would I be pretty much in the same boat with a VR2500? I'm assuming I am and it appears identical and your 2522 a little newer model. This one is a B&S 6.5 HP and 2500psi.
Thanks for watching, Timothy! Yes sir, the pump i used is spec'd for the VR2500 and the VR2522. This replacement pump is so much better than the factory pump....I wish I had done this ages ago.
you wrap teflon tape on clockwise if you are looking at the threaded end, because the threads are right-handed, so the thermal valve goes in clockwise. You should wrap the tape on so that the tail end will not ball up when you thread in the valve. Yes! I agree....I hate plastic wrap! Thanks for watching!
thank you dennis for the info--appreciate the time. my father was getting rid of his pw and I came across this. so now i have a project. how has the increase of pressure been--any issues?
Thanks for watching, Rob! I love this pressure washer since I changed pumps. I wasn't much of a fan before that to be honest. The only issue I've had is that I need to let the engine warm up a few minutes longer than with the original pump before I start washing. If I don't, it tends to stall. If I do let it warm up for a few minutes, I do not have any trouble at all.
@@dwcoffey put it on over the holidays..and bought a wand with new nozzles.. Boom back in business a PW for a little bit over $100. Thanks for the video again 👍
Thank you always for your info I pray that all is well with you and your family and I thank God for you sharing your info👍🙏 God bless you Dennis
Thank yo so much, Kenneth! I appreciate your support. We are all doing fine and I hope you and yours are too!
I have an old Excell I'm going to do this upgrade because the pump is sucking air some where. Pressure is inconsistent. It's 20 years old. Thanks for showing me how.
Probably the B E S T UA-cam "how to" video ever! Incredibly simple step by step instructions anyone could follow. Many, many thanks, Sir!
That's great! I'm glad it got you going for a lot less money! Thanks for watching!
Wow, it was like having an advisor standing right next to you as my power washer was the exact one you worked on. The replacement was precisely as described - I did remove all the shroud and stuff as you did Dennis and I like it much better now! It works better than new. THANK YOU so much for taking the stress out of the changeover.
Thanks for watching! I agree....I like this pressure washer more now than I did when it was new!
I use UA-cam to fix just about anything I own and this is by far one of the best “How to” videos I’ve ever seen!
Thank you Devon! I appreciate you watching!
This is the first video I have ever commented on. I had the same power washer.......followed your video step by step. Your order of procedures and parts made it foolproof. Thank you for posting the video with the info on correct parts to get
Thank you for watching, Ryan! I was never a big fan of my pressure washer until I did this pump replacement. Now I love it.
Hey Dennis
I had the exact same model with the same problems, leaking out of the pump with no pressure.
I don’t own a vr2522 but you did such a great job in explaining everything that i couldn’t stop watching. Great job.
Thank you!! I appreciate you watching and certainly appreciate that nice comment!!
Thank you sir. I had a tough time matching the four bolt pattern on mine. I am going to do the same thing you did and remove the shroud. I'm also getting the 2" 3/8 16 bolts. Your video was very informative and not dragged out. Straight to the point and explained plenty. Hunts
I hope this helped and you got it worked out! Thanks very much for watching!
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! Thank you, Dennis. I will be doing the exact same thing when I get the pump. Very much appreciated!
Update
I just finished putting mine back together with the new pump today. Thanks for all your insight. I didn't need any washers above my 2" bolts. The pump needed to go up tight as possible. I started it up and it works great!
I especially appreciated the tip to not cross thread those new bolts, so I was very careful.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad this helped and you like the results.
Great tips! Thanks for watching, Brian!
A very well done and helpful video. One suggestion though for a modification to the process shown that I found makes things easier:
Rather than installing the pump with the unit tilted back on its side, start by placing the motor completely upside down on a bench, then position the frame on top of it, and finally slide the pump over the shaft and line up the bolts and spacers. By doing the install with the entire unit upside down you are allowing gravity to do the work for you rather than working against it by installing at an angle. Just be sure once installed you let the unit sit right side up for a while to allow the oil to drain back down into the sump before starting.
Thanks again and hope this helps!
Thanks Mark! I appreciate you watching!
Nice job! Thank you for watching!
I couldn't have done this without your video! With it, it was a breeze!!!
Thank you for watching, Chris!
Awesome video…. I have the same power washer and need to replace the pump. I’m ordering a pump today. This will be a great project for me and my son-in-law to work on next week when he is in town. Thanks again.
I hope the work went smoothly! I like my pressure washer with this replacement pump, better than I did with the original pump!
Wow... thanks Dennis, with your instruction I was only in Home Depot 5 Minutes and it only take me 40 minutes to complete the job...
Thanks for watching, Daniel! Glad you got it working!
I'm glad this helped and thanks for watching, Justin! I like my pressure washer better with this replacement pump than I ever did with the original.
Excellent, thank you. I have the exact same Excell unit and I could not find a replacement for the original style piston pump. Definitely going to upgrade as you have shown.
Thanks for watching, Jeremy! I like my pressure washer with this new pump so much more than I did with the original.
Your tutorial was clear, concise and very logical. I am going to order the parts now that I have the knowledge (from you) and the confidence to do this project. I've never liked that plastic shroud either. Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching, Lloyd! I was never a big fan of this pressure washer until I changed this pump. Now I love it. Let me know if I can help!
The other set up you may encounter is removing a screw and inside there's a jet itself I believe and the same idea, clean it up and put it back in and then when you start it up, you'll no longer have that up and down engine rpm surge. I look forward to watching your next video. Thanks again.
Thank you again for watching!
thanks! got one of these today for 30$ with a bad pump! just ordered everything i needed, not a bad deal for a honda powered washer for about $100
That's a great deal! Thank you for watching!
Love to have old strap pump
I fix but parts hard to get
You are a great teacher and I like your information and the way you can truly anticipate what you need to make it work. Very impressive 👍! You are truly a great teacher! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much Isabel! I appreciate you watching, and I really appreciate your kind comments.....thank you!
Good points! Thank you for watching!
Great video. Successfully replaced pump and resurrected my excell pressure washer; works better than original.
Thanks for watching, Norm! I had the same results....this pump is way better than the original!
Thank you Dennis for very clear directions.
Thank you for watching!
I hope it all went well. I love this new pup on my washer, it's better than when new! Thanks for watching, Shane!
Thanks Mario! I appreciate you watching!
@@dwcoffey ive seen a 3100 psi 2.5gpm pump upgrade. Do you think the motor can handle that or is too much?
Great idea using an oscillating tool! Thanks for watching, Marsha!
Directions were great I had a difficult time keeping keyway in place during pump installation I applied a couple of drops of super glue and problem solved
Thanks for your help
Sounds like a great solution Joe! Thanks for watching! I really like this pressure washer since doing this upgrade.
Thanks so much for this! My surge hose sprung a big leak and the outlet was cracked so I'm so glad I can do this! Thanks for the step by step!
My outlet was cracked too. Wondering if I could use JB weld on it...
Thanks for the video I installed the same water pump on the same exact pressure washer your video was really informative.
Thanks for watching, Lester! This new pump is better than the original, in my opinion. I wish I had done this years ago!
you the man thanks.
Thank you for watching, Eric!
Best video ever. Very detailed. Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching!
thank you for another great video of teaching....i hope you and your family are safe and well...God bless!
Thank you so much! I hope the same for you and yours. Thanks for your continued support of my channel!
Thanks for the video. I'll be doing this same upgrade once the parts come in
This pump gave the pressure washer a whole new life. Mine works better now than it did when new! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Needed to replace my pump in this same model and you made it so easy for me to get it done! Much appreciated!
The reviews speak loudly of the quality of your Work! Great Video!
thank you sir for taking the time to make this video.. very well explained sir.
Thank you very much for watching!
Great Idea thanks for showing the whole process very informative and if I can't rebuild my pump, I may need to go your route.
Sounds good! Thanks Brian!
Hi. Hope you are fine.
Well I seen your video without skipping any details. you are amazing. You have brilliant idea.
Well done. ❤️❤️❤️👏👏
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it. I have been more pleased with my pressure washer since changing the pump...it is better than it was new.
@@dwcoffey thank you and you are most welcome
Waoooh that nice to hear that your pressure washer works fine.
Have a nice day.
Excellent instructional video. Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Yea, I've just been too lazy to fix it....need to get after it. haha Thank you for watching, David!
Thank you!! This helped me tremendously!!!
Thanks for watching, Jenn!
Thank you Gavin! I appreciate you watching!
I must have ordered the same pump because mine is lining up in the back as well. Is your pump still working fine?
Michael Muckelvaney Yeah, it’s still working well. Although I don’t use my pressure washer more than a couple times a year.
Dennis, Thank you for the video, Have the exact same machine great unit.Just the information I was looking for. Many Thanks
Thanks for watching! Since I replaced this pump, I love this machine better than when it was new!
Great job explaining everything.
Thank you Isander! I appreciate you watching!
Thank you, very informative, about to order parts
Thanks for watching, Trevor!
Well done video. Succinct, and very clear. Solved my problem thanks
Thanks for watching!!
Worked great! Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Paul!
Great Video, you explains everything 👍👍
Thanks for watching, Richard!
Your welcome!
Great video. I need to get to the pump to check my unloader valve. I could not find a video showing how to get the plastic cover off.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for posting. I did it and it works great!
That's great Dan! I love mine since I replaced the pump and removed that shroud. Thank you for watching!
Good instructions Thanks
Thanks for watching, Richard!
thank you for the video it is great! my question is, why i need to take the motor out? can i assemble the pump with out take the motor off? thanks.
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching, Dan!!
When I looked on the Waspper website they had two versions of the same pump, one with a brass head which was nearly double the price of the one with the ordinary head (Aluminium I think)
There's another one on Amazon by Yamatic which is rated 2900psi max, 2300psi normal. Only problem is they don't ship to my address (Northern Ireland)
Not sure what to do now.
Keep up the good work,
Kenny.
I haven't tried the detergent port yet...next time I have the pressure washer out, I'll try to remember to take that port apart and at least see how it goes together, and get back with you. Glad you got it working! Thanks again for your support, Kenny!
Great video! Great information!
Thanks for watching!
this will work for the 6.5 Briggs & A Stratton engine VR2500 the upgrade pump
Fantastic! Thank you for watching!
Thanks excellent video helped a lot.
Thanks for watching, Norman!
Great job I think I can do that thank you, I was thinking of just replacing mine I will look into this, nice project
Thanks for your time and effort as always stay safe stay well God bless....
Thank you great video . Can someone share where to buy the complete set of washer gun?? Thanks in advance
Thanks for watching, Jeancarlos! Here is what I use with mine and I like it very much!
Hose: amzn.to/31otChI
Gun/Lance/Nozzle Combo: amzn.to/3eCL8D0
Good video, Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thank you Bill! I appreciate you watching! The best thing I've ever done to this pressure washer was upgrade the pump...I love this thing now!
Did all this. How do you adjust the pressure?
Thank you for watching, Tommy! The pump I used for a replacement doesn't have a pressure adjustment on it.
Great job, and nice tutorial
Thank you Nick! I appreciate you watching!
Can someone please tell me what that porter cable is for that underneath my power washer? Mine sprung a leak. Can I patch it with a clamp?
Thanks for watching, Wanda! Often, the surge hose either gets weak and splits or freezes and splits. You could try patching it with a hose clamp, that might get you running temporarily, but the hose should be replaced.
Nice job enjoyed your video
Thank you very much, William! I appreciate you watching!
Dennis Coffey thank you for you video I was real helpful, my father-in law and my husband en you it. We subscribed and like it.
Dennis….where did you buy the pump?? Why store or Amazon??
Thanks for watching! Here's the pump I bought: amzn.to/3TPTnCB
Hey man great video! I was wondering if you still have the old pump I would buy the unloader valve off of you. Please let me know thank you!
Thanks for watching, bubba! My old pump didn’t have an unloader on it, it used a surge hose (just a short piece of hose, capped at the end). I tossed it when I replaced it.
Dennis Coffey no worries man thank you!
Great video. Would you have the link to get a pump
Thank you! I appreciate you watching! Here's the link: amzn.to/3cG6AFD
There are links to other items you may need in the video description also. Thanks again!
What is the replacement pump number for the vr2522
Thank you for watching, John! Please check the description on the video, I have all the info listed there.
I watched another youtube video: ua-cam.com/video/EE0P0_kxjNg/v-deo.html and learned that the pump can be taken apart, the bottom mounting legs rotated 180 degrees and put back together!! Now the hoses exit the front of the unit!! check this out! ua-cam.com/video/EE0P0_kxjNg/v-deo.html
Teflón tape goes Clockwise......I Think....?,.It was harder to take the Dam plastic wrap than to screw the engine.....
you wrap teflon tape on clockwise if you are looking at the threaded end, because the threads are right-handed, so the thermal valve goes in clockwise. You should wrap the tape on so that the tail end will not ball up when you thread in the valve. Yes! I agree....I hate plastic wrap! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Nice Video
Thanks for watching, Robert!
thank you dennis for the info--appreciate the time. my father was getting rid of his pw and I came across this. so now i have a project. how has the increase of pressure been--any issues?
Thanks for watching, Rob! I love this pressure washer since I changed pumps. I wasn't much of a fan before that to be honest. The only issue I've had is that I need to let the engine warm up a few minutes longer than with the original pump before I start washing. If I don't, it tends to stall. If I do let it warm up for a few minutes, I do not have any trouble at all.
@@dwcoffey put it on over the holidays..and bought a wand with new nozzles.. Boom back in business a PW for a little bit over $100. Thanks for the video again 👍
Nice!! Great job, Rob, glad it helped!
Surge hose.. can I repair it?
I'd replace it. Take the hose off and match the size, length and thickness at your local auto parts store for a replacement. Thanks for watching!
Dennis, will a one inch long keyway work?
Thanks for watching, Jerry! Yes sir, it should be fine.
hello do you know the part number of the pump?
Thank you for watching! There's a link in the video description.
