EXCELL/Honda XR2600 Pressure Washer Pump Replacement (Axial Retrofit)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 січ 2019
- Recently, this trusty old pressure washer stopped pumping water while using it. Engine still ran, but no pressurized water. We'll start the repair by looking at the problem, which we quickly realize is severe damage to the pump, and then decide to install a newer style of water pump to make it work.
Dates of filming: October 8th, 2018 (Disassembly and Pump Install)
October 17th, 2018 (New Washer Hose)
Song List (Order of First Appearance):

Man, you have got some very generous neighbors.
lmao
Pressure washers, TA's, etc...
my neighbor gave me the same pressure washer ... same problem xD also my tires will not hold air at all .. is about to buy some other kind of wheels
Yooo
I had the same tire problem Found the perfect replacement Tire/Tube /Wheel at the Local Tractor Supply Company store for $12.00
repairing is awesome
looking at somthing that is working because YOU repeared.... is rewarding.
Exactly like fixing old cars
You can appreciate the item more as well! Super gratifying
Repairing old stuff and prolonging it's life is awesome yes, but improving and upgrading it is even better.
@@giovannifoulmouth7205 Nah, that only works for phones and similar electronics that actually become obsolete. A pressure washer isn't doing that.
In this "throwaway n get a new one" society, good to see there are still people like yourself fixing things.
Love your videos, keep 'em coming.
Agreed! Good job. I have the same pressure washer and the pump just gave up the ghost, time to retrofit!
please do more Firebird videos. I love your attention to details and I can't wait to see that car getting some love.
The black hose underneath is an accumulator. These strap pumps don't run a typical unloader system, and so that hose is to capacitate the excess pressure when you release the wand. If that wasn't there, the sudden spike in pressure would be detrimental to the porcelain pistons, and since fluids don't compress, it would end up destroying things prematurely. I've thrown away dozens of those strap pumps, retro-fitting them to (most typically) a 3 piston axial wobbler pump (exactly like the himore you've fitted). Still not as good as a crank-opperated pump, but a much more economical option. The pistons seizing in their bores and fracturing is a common failure, as well as the straps breaking. Even when those pumps work correctly, they're sub-par. Their flow is "pulsy", causing the gun to sort of vibrate in your hand, causing fatigue, and makes your hands go numb after prolonged use. For the home-gamer, it's usually a non-issue. You're not washing down 10 cars a day with it, to care.
The yellow plug is for shipping. Because the pumps come pre-filled with oil, the cap is to prevent the oil from leaking out, should the box be place wrong-side-up. It'll probably work itself loose as the pump oil heats up the air inside the pump, and increases pressure. Highly doubt it'll cause an issue while running. What would be concerning, is if you were to leave the plug in as it cools. The resulting vacuum from the shrinkage of air could cause the plug to seat itself, and seal off the pump body, while still cooling. This could cause the pump to start pulling water passed the packing seals over time, and into your pump oil, and cause pre-mature failure of your pump assembly due to oil frothing from the contaminated oil. Basically, take the plug out, it's packaging.
Great Sound Solid advise and Information Thanks
that surging the motor is doing, there is this tiny pin hole in the carb thats slightly plugged, its about 0.013 pin hole size. Theres a lil plug under the pilot jet to access it, makes all the difference when p.washing =)
Thanks for that tip! I have only really used it for odd jobs, and never messed with the engine or carb other than what was mentioned in this video. I'm sure it could run a bit better than it does, if it is just a gunked up carb passage it shouldn't be a big deal to sort it out
Where is the plug located? In the bowl? You're not talking about the main jet correct?
I did see a brass screw in plug on the top of the carburetor, I'm wondering if that's the plug you're talking about?
@@mikebruestle218 I'd gently pull that plug and look, mine were inside the bowl and plastic because CHINESIUM. Add a quality inline fuel filter too that helps cut down carb maint time as I use mine 9x a month
Your style of narrating, editing and what you're repairing is why I subscribed. Good stuff man. Also congratulations on 100k subscribers, you're obviously doing something right.
great video for the exact PW that i have, thanks. if you are gonna spray vinyl i highly recommend getting a downstreaming kit and using some soap with lower pressure. it doesnt etch the vinyl and keeps mold away longer. they are easy to install and cost like 60 bucks
I have this same exact pressure washer. Its nice to know it can be fixed when the pump eventually fails!
Very good ! You don't waste any time! Thank you!
Dad got this exact one for a hundred, except that the only original thing on it is the frame. When I tried pulling the cord, I didn't feel the compression, it was the same all the way through, after some adjustments, it started on the second pull at 28°f or like -2°c, so below freezing. When I looked at the engine, it was blue, was mostly constructed of metal, had JD on it, and the honda sticker was placed on top of sticker residue. The pump didn't work. After some searching I found it on the internet; the hose, gun, pump, engine, and wheels were different. I wasn't joking when I said the frame is the only original part. I'll edit this and post the engine brand and specs.
It's a Jiangsu Jiangdong corporation model JF120 127CC 4 hp engine.
Great video. Very helpful. My install went very smoothly. Thank you!
Now you'll have to pressure wash the rest of the house!
I had to do the same with a Ridgid Washer. I'd have trashed the whole thing, but discovered the engine is an Isuzu, and is close in reliability to a Honda. That pushed me towards replacing the pump. I had no idea how many variations of a replacement pump there were, and I looked at over 20 different versions before I found what I was looking for. Anyway, I cleaned up the washer, changed the engine oil, and the washer is good for another few years, I hope.
Thank you, sir. You have saved me from agony.
Great work. I'm waiting for pontiac episode 2.
I'm an absolute caveman when it comes to working on things and I really appreciate your channel. Thanks!
Also I'd like to make a joke about Bob Vila and "This Old Pump" but I've got nothing, and you may be too young to remember the source of that joke anyways.
Your joke effort and reference has not gone unappreciated, haha
Great video. Excellent detail while maintaining pace... Much-appreciated, keep 'em coming!

Best video description i have seen on here. except. just get new fittings instead of re-threading. (which he mentions)

Mine looked exactly the same when I took the cover off. Great video.
I knew it would be cake for you lol. You can spray with the gun tip much closer on harder surfaces or bare metal. 2-6" is where we train our crews to keep the tip. You'll get wet, aim your ricochet... Tone down psi at the "unloader" for wood or painted surfaces. Spray too far away and you lose a lot of the psi goodness the Honda is pushing. Try a Turbo zero tip matching the gpm of the unit, amazing results... Detergent injectors are subjective. Get a hand pump sprayer for car soap and casually washing stuff. Soap at 3000psi makes an unnecessary mess if you're not careful. Park the machine so it doesn't get too wet and Pull the tiny yellow oil valve cap plug when using. The pumphead needs to vent at full rpm bc temperature changes and expansion of fluids and gases inside. Replace plug when storing or turning unit on its side, Or use a solid cap to retain pump oil. You can use SAE30 NONdetergent as pump oil, and Detergent added SAE30 for motor. Do not reverse the two. Change both oils often and the washer is alive for a long time. Beer after dinner made me type a little lazy. I apologize for the grammar. Nice repair!
Great info, thanks for sharing!
That plug lets pressure out of the pump case. 1000000% recommend removing. I work on pressure washers daily.
Also this pump is affordable and will likely last. But a good Comet replacement pump would be much more reliable and has higher pressure and gpm on the same honda engine
I'm a subscriber now for the car stuff but the pressure washer repair could use some.work lol
Great video. Agreed, always glad to repair over trashing something. Good job!
Good job on the repair. You got that done fast.
Most good hardware or farm stores should have so key material that you only need to cut to length.
Never thought I'd need a pressure washer till I had one show up on Craigslist for $50 and after some carb work and a rebuilt pump runs great. Now I don't know if I could do without. Feel the same way about a leaf blower I got and fixed up.
A lot cheaper if you can do it yourself. Great job. God Bless
This is easily a $300 repair in my shop, the pump(while 100xs better) is over half that cost. You can almost replace the entire unit for that price so DIY is always best with these small residential units
My favorite project car :)
I had a 13 hp honda powered pressure washer that the pump did the same as yours... took it apart and the pistons had exploded. We have hard water and it rusts bad when not used. I use a pump conditioner now when im not going to use it for long periods of time.
True, that is a good idea. We have very hard water here as well, it doesn't get along with the plumping fixtures. Good idea to store it with a conditioner of some kind
@@FuzzyDiceProjects yup..I found it at the farm supply store..little can you just screw it in the garden hose end and it's kinda like fix a flat in a can.
@@Northern_Farmer can you just cycle vegetable oil throught it? Or very sopy Walter? I don't think that using any "tiny" can in the input changes anything..
@@kitecattestecke2303 why wouldnt it...the can is pressurized and it coats everything from the inlet right through to the outlet. You could use vegetable oil but how would you be able to pump it through the pump?
Just fill a hose and with the trigger pulled and ignition off give it a few pulls. Should work
I have the same situation. Thank for sharing now I'll do the same thing
Great video. I have an old Honda Pressurewave PWH 2500 with a broken pump which looks identical to the one that you took off. The only difference is that mine was mounted vertically below the engine. Could your replacement pump be mounted vertically?
Great video man 👍
love your videos and I love your voice over style
Awesome project love the vids
Your videos are so amazing
Thankyou for this video!! Mine had exactly the same failure. The pump you selected is about a third of the manufactures suggested replacement pump. Ordering the PE24 instead! :-) (Sorry Grandson, no motor for a go-kart yet)
Edit: got it, installed it, it worked perfect!!! By the way, the supplier I bought it from on eBay provided all the adapters needed. 😎. ($67 fast & free)
What was the complete part number for the replacement pump you got?
I see it is a
OEM Himore Power Pressure Washer Water Pump for Axial 309515003 Engine Sprayers, but I'm not seeing a 3/4 to 7/8 adapters
Greg Padden I bought it Mar 31st. Search for this:
PRESSURE WASHER PUMP Replaces Honda Excell A01801 D28744 A14292 on XR2500 XR2600
Lot of sellers selling this. Got mine for $67.99, but there are sellers asking as much as $109. Prices might be higher now.
I have the same pressure washer and the original pump just broke today. Do you have a link to the new pump you installed or a similar one to it that would fit. Thanks :)
professional video. best video ever heard on UA-cam
You mentioned to get the correct quick detach fitting....have the part number? And where I can get it?....thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the nice video, very helpfull
thank you
Hi excellent video can you install a triplex plunge on the motor is it possible
UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.
Anyone know what’s the red black top part of the pump? Looks like a knob
Whenever I receive a power washer to repair, the pumps are always the first to go bad. Usually the engines work perfectly fine. Most customers don't want to pay to put a new pump on so they just end up giving it to me, since they would normally throw them away.
If I find a pressure washer with a blown engine, I would simply swap parts and use the blown engines for parts. I wouldn't buy one new unless the customer requests it. Because in some cases buying a new power washer would cost less than the new pump and the cost of installation. Most of the time, the pump is removed and scrapped and the working engine would be saved to be used for something else.
Just about every residential pressure washer built nowadays is cheap Chinese garbage with Chinese Honda clones that have problems all the time. Only the prosumer and commercial units with good pumps will last for a long time, but it comes with a heavy price tag.
This was great!
What kind of socket do you use to get the water hose connector out? I have this pressure washer and need to replace it but can't get it off?
I replaced mine with the same pump and when I press the trigger the engine doesn’t rev up. Any ideas?
I have an excell and the pump is not unloading. There are not any adjustments i can tell on pump. I might be going this route unfortunetly. Im definitely keeping it open as an option
God damn i love this channel! :D

Can anybody tell me how to remove wheel on 2600? Very small steel dowel secures wheel to axle. Steel dowel is round with a round hole through it. Need to know how to remove steel dowel? Peace.
I HAVE one of these , used it once, worked great , its been sitting in garage 2+ years , wont turn over , ??? Spark plug , clean carburetor?? What would you do first , not a mechanic or even close
Won't START, or won't turn at all like it's seized??? If you can pull the rope and the engine spins, drain the old fuel, and use the 4 cycle fuel that comes in the prepackaged can. Pull out the spark plug, clean it if needed. If it's only 2 years old or so, it should still be good. You can get a gauge to measure the gap of the igniter on the end too. Sometimes I'll cheat and use just a spritz of starting fluid to help an engine that's sat with old fuel started again. You may also be able to unscrew the carburetor bowl off and clean it if needed depending on the type of engine. Using the canned fuel helps engines from getting gummed up from old fuel.
If you can't turn the engine and it feels like it's locked up, you have major problems. Find a friend that's handy, and invite him over for beers...
@@ffjsb thanks I’ll try that, it does spin when i pull cord , just wont turn over and start
what size are the wrench and the bolts holding the cover?
You're a genius
Is that a 3/8 - 18 NPT tap? I don't know much about taps....
what size attachment did you use to remove the grub screw?
Hello buddy , watch you from MA , this power mashing it’s gas or gasolina ⛽️?

Unfortunately due to housing developments in my county, my yard isn't as ideal of a location to shoot in anymore. Also, time constraints make it tough to do a lot of the things I used to.
Love your videos man. If you added the "JOIN" feature i would totally support you with monthly $.
Hi there, can you share the website links where you got the new water pump as well as the new pressure hose? My pressure washer, which is the exact same one just went out yesterday when I wanted to wash the deck.
Hi! Unfortunately I got the pump off of eBay and the listing isn't up anymore, but I would definitely check there with the part number given in the video. You can also pretty much just go by the product pictures and find one that looks identical since they go by different names. Same goes for the replacement hose, eBay. I will say that it didn't care for the 5/16" hose and to go with a 3/8" because I couldn't get the siphon feed to work reliably with the 5/16". Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
Great video. Do you have the link or info for the replacement pump?
i am waiting for the pontiac firebird ep 2
The pressure washer is back from the dead PS great video
Yes!
my go cart hast the same engine except the plastic on the front is black, makes 4 hp 😂
edit: when I watched the part when he turned it on bro it even sounds like my go cart lol
I did the same thing on my B&S Power washer... water froze and cracked the pump.... The wife did ask if the new pump (as well as the rebuild kit I ended up not using) cost as much as a new Pressure Washer.. course I said "no", but she did say, "I'm surprised didn't upgrade to a bigger pressure washer"... which I didn't even think of at the time, dang it!. But I like fixing instead of replacing too.
Haha, fair enough. Looked at options for new ones and seemed like they were either a few hundred dollars more than just replacing the pump (and hose) or did not have good reviews after long-term use, so I figured this option was good enough for now
Can I find a key for the pump to fit on the engine shaft? Also, what size tap will I need for the the threads?
nice video, why does the red and black oil cap have a pin hole and what is the yellow tip?
Cascade failure.
Your username makes me happy

Did you reconnect the hose that was going under the laser washer?
@Fuzzy Dice Projeects
I've just discovered your channel and I'm now on a watching spree. I grew up around Firebird's and 'IROC Z's', so they remind me of my childhood and teenage years. I would have jumped at your new project immediately! Let me know if you get tired of it.
As a coincidence, my Honda powered, consumer grade power washer started backfiring and dying towards the end of last summer. A small engine repair shop told me the water pressure pump was seizing and the unit was trash. He wouldn't even take it for free, or repair it. It's only less than a few years old and has been used maybe a half-dozen times. Does this sound right?
If so, this looks like a project I could tackle relatively easily. Could you please provide a source and/or some details for the new water pressure pump? Hopefully the new one will last significantly longer. Thanks!
Glad you have been enjoying our videos!
If your pressure washer isn't particularly old, it's likely it already has an axial pump and the swap should be even easier and a crank key should already be present. If it has a cover over the pump, take it off and see if it looks like (or very similar to) the one I installed here. Search "Pressure Washer Pump Honda GC160 Engine 7/8" Shaft" on eBay to find the one I ordered. The product page has some good details (seller: eprdistribution). I believe all of the Honda pressure washers use a 7/8" shaft but I could be wrong. Also measure the mounting bolts and compare to the specs on the eBay page.

Thank you sir, much appreciated. I'll do that!
I suggest you take the pump off the motor and run it by hand or with a drill and confirm the shop's diagnosis. I've not been around much equipment that "kinda" seizes up...
Good job. Everything broke except the Honda engine.
any updates on the z?
It's sitting at Sean's house, he has a short attention span and bought the Volvo expecting to drive that for a while. Of course, it broke immediately, and now he plans to put money into that before really working on the Datsun. Next thing the Datsun is getting is an actual gas tank, as the fuel cell is leaky and the fuel pump is loud and he just wants a fuel tank back under it.
@@FuzzyDiceProjects thank you for the update :)

The older stuff is better built...
I have a 95 Craftsman track drive snowblower I bought for 50 dollars 7 years ago... the axle bushings were shot and the previous owner put water pipe as a bearing on one side, so it wallowed out the hole... so I bought a 1/2" steel bar and some pillow block bearings, calculated the new hole placements for the drive gear and the track drives and slapped it together... and replaced all the bronze bushings in the track drives and added ball bearings instead of bushings in the upper drive train. Works like a champ... I needed to add sheet metal wings on the auger housing because the tracks are now 3/4" wider than the auger housing. Before, the outside tracks were in line with the housing, so without the wings, it would climb up on the snow. Was about 75 dollars in parts total... works better than new.
It has the original auger housing (not rusted through), scraper bar and motor, I also added an electric start I scavenged off a blown up motor... And I had to make a new carb cover (out of a car aluminum heat shield) and muffler (out of sheet metal from a rusted out push mower deck), they rusted off.
I have an 8 year old Troy Bilt I use at my apartments and my auger housing is rusting through and the scraper bar had to be replaced already...
They don't build things to last anymore...
I just scored the exact same washer for free...
Haven't dug into it yet...
Pump is leaking like a sieve...

I wanna study what you studied. to be able to do the same thing.
Has anyone noticed that the new pump gets super hot? I had emailed the company and the suggested replacing the lubricating oil , which turns out was two ounces and not the full 4.5 ounces.
I replaced the oil and it still gets super hot. Waiting to hear back from the company....
I want my channel to grow like this so I can make videos like this ...
Where can i get neighbors as cool as yours, Sells you a car for 100 and someone gives you this for free. im lucky to get a hi out of mine when i walk by.
Half of it is simply putting it out there that you're in the market for broken things. Do your neighbors know you want their broken stuff?
U wanna use real key way material so that if u over load the motor or pump the key will snap and save them
It was a piece of mild steel I used, should be about as soft as steel comes, but I doubt this little engine would be able to shear it anyway. If it somehow did, then it would probably be a catastrophic failure anyway
I can't believe a Honda would ever lose pressure for anything in any way. Hmmm, weird.
Seems like a lot of work. Maybe next time you should just use some blue devil headgasket sealer, that shit fixes everything with no negative consequences whatsoever! 🙃
I can't endorse Blue Devil, even sarcastically.
