      @Rockotar: I really liked this video you made and I completely agree with it… but I have 2 things I’d like to add/note if that’s ok, and I promise it will make this video even better. First note I want to add, and this one is a bit silly, but during the scene where Buzz and the other toys were crossing the road under the orange cones, the two words that were said was actually “drop” and “go”, not “stop” and “go”, but that’s just a little thing I wanted to correct, nothing to worry about. The second note I have for you, abcs this one will really REALLY make this movie EVEN MORE meaningful after it’s said… if you look around on UA-cam, Google, Patreon, etc., you’ll probably find even more details on this… there’s a theory out there that Emily, as in Jessie’s original owner Emily, the one who donated Jessie in the first place, gets Jessie back, specially HER Jessie doll, kinda… more like her kid gets her doll… her SON more specially… Oh, heck with it… I’ll just spit it out… EMILY IS ANDY’S MOM…and there is a lot of detail that supports this, and one of those details is even in the first movie, the red cowboy hat Andy was wearing for the majority of the movie, because in TS2, after Woody’s arm rips, you get a better look at the hat. If you look at it, you’ll see that the white strip that goes around the hat is kinda faded, and during Jessie’s flashback of Emily, you see a larger version of her hat on her nightstand before it, along with the other stuff in her nightstand goes away, but when you see everything in Jessie’s box of donated stuff, the hat is nowhere to be seen, abcs you might think she might’ve decided to keep it for her kid, which in this case, would be Andy. So Jessie’s whole story goes full circle. I think I heard about this through Super Carlton Brothers on their video about Andy’s Dad. So, anyway, I loved this video, and I hope you have a magical day 😊😊😊

    One thing my mom praised at the time it was new and I agreed with emphatically is that while Woody and Jessie in the TV show are implicitly love interests, the toys don't become a romantic couple after bonding and getting to know each other. That Woody doesn't break up with Bo and start a romance with Jessie - the thought probably doesn't even occur to him even if it did to some in the audience. Woody and Jessie wind up with a relationship more like a brother and sister, and it's Buzz that Jessie winds up with a more passionate romantic attraction to as hinted at in the end here and expanded on in the sequels.

      Woody had completely forgotten his own identity and branding. He was complete opposite of Buzz in this sense. I feel a big part of woody's character is his complete acceptance of his identity as a toy. Considering how troubled the production was for both of Toy Story 1 and 2, it’s incredible how the films turned out to be so much very well written and they are proof that even if you have a troubled production there is no excuse for a badly written story because Toy Story 1 and 2 had troubled production and they still were good. To give more context Woody’s personality was changed basically last minute where before he was almost the villain of Toy Story 1 were he voluntarily threw Buzz out of the window and Toy Story 2 was originally going to be a direct to DVD sequel because Disney thought that they could treat Pixar films like their direct to DVD sequels of the classics Disney films.

    Another bit of genius in Stinky Pete's backstory is how understandable it is _why_ he was unsold for so long. In his show, he was the goofy/annoying comic relief character, and wasn't as cool, heroic or inspiring as the rest of the Roundup Gang. He wasn't the kind of person most viewers would aspire to be or tell stories about, least of all children, so of course he would be ignored while every Woody, Jessie and Bullseye went on to enrich someone's childhood for however long they lasted.

    • @100lovenana
      @100lovenana 3 місяці тому +9

      That's actually realistic. That's why in many current children franchises (like Disney) they design the main characters in a more marketable way. The Disney princesses are a prime example, why would a little girl want a Kristoff doll alone when Elsa is the most appealing and marketable icon of the film? I bet this started to become more common after the 80s when animated shows were just publicity for toys.

    • @pbsfundingaddict790
      @pbsfundingaddict790 3 місяці тому +8

      Yeah, Stinky Pete’s silly, hillbilly-like personality might’ve been the reason he was unsold for years, which made him even more insane and angry. Not to mention the fact that he was probably seen as less desirable to kids than the toys of more prominent characters like Woody and Jessie as a toy of the show's bumbling comic-relief character.

Now he’s gonna get doodled on and look silly! Haha oh noooooo”, but… it’s not just that: after wanting to be appreciated for so long that his bitterness over nobody wanting to play with him shifted him into single-mindedly focusing on being admired as a perfect, pristine toy by hundreds of people a day instead, well. He finally *does* find someone interested in playing with him who’s decidedly *not* interested in her toys being perfect, mint condition specimens of their models.

      @@liamweaver2944 I’ll admit, I like that part, too. Buzz basically applied Woody’s words of wisdom from the first film to himself when Woody initially refused to come home to Andy to live with The Roundup Gang in the museum in Japan. Needless to say, while Stinky Pete nearly convinced Woody about staying with him and the Roundup Gang in the Japan toy museum because they would be loved and adored, it would have been really worse for them. Given that museums have security cameras to avoid any kind of theft, this means that the Roundup Gang would have been forced to never move ever again. Of course, given his hatred towards children, Stinky Pete would have easily gone through with this but not his friends, serving this as an example of his extreme selfishness. Toy Story 2: toy collectors, toy stores, toys being put in museums.

Prospector lied about it to manipulate Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye. You can hear Jessie thanking Woody for rescuing them in time, leading to the final scene of Woody singing “You got a friend in Me to the audience”; and then the series ends with the Round up Gang waving goodbye. That’s why when Woody turns on the TV and the first thing you see is the theme song play and the episode picking up where the last one left off.

    I think one of the great story beats that TS2 hits hard with is "What happens when the things you're nostalgic about just become crap sitting on a shelf?", and how do we deal with that as humans, and how might the toys deal with that as 'the crap'. It's just so upsetting, because I remember clearly as a child in the early 90s receiving some plushy toys from Disney World and thinking how cute they were, and how lovely it was to cuddle with them in bed.... But also I just got this thought in my head about "The toy looks so adorable, but what happens when I'm a grown up but the toy still has the same face? Do I feel 'sad' for the toy? Where do toys go? Someone once made this, some creator once had this, no matter how temporarily, as the most important thing in their life... but now it is a bit a fluffy plastic I don't want." I felt immense guilt towards the toys I no longer liked or wanted... And TS2 brought that all to the surface so much. But then TS3&4 were based solely around this mawkish idea, so I snapped out of it. :)

    I'm not saying Pixar will or even SHOULD make a Toy Story 5, but if they ever decide to do so, I'd like to see Stinky Pete return. He'll return as a sort of anti-ANTI-hero. He starts off as kind of a bad guy who honestly doesn't like Woody and the gang all that much for obvious reasons. But towards the middle of the film, Stinky Pete starts a whole new ark. The fill-in from when we last saw him is of him with that little girl. He probably absolutely hated it at first. But as the years went on, he found an appreciation for that young girl. Maybe he wasn't played with how most "boy toys" would be played with, but he still felt the love and affection that Woody spoke of. With that new perspective that he has now fully experienced and come to understand, maybe he could be of help to the gang. (Also, I like the idea of Stinky Pete coming back, but he's got lots of smudges on him and has clearly been drawn on.)
    Finally, what if Lotso Huggin' Bear came back again? Okay, so picture this: Bo Peep and Woody decide to visit Buzz, Jessie and the other toys for Christmas or something. That's how the plot starts. As the holiday continues, they hear talk of a toy that sounds an awful lot like Lotso. A plushy bear that smells of strawberries. Initially, the toys just want to leave it alone and want nothing to do with him. And that's how it will stay for a little bit of the movie. All the gang can agree that Lotso is a bad egg that's been cracked. However, purely by coincidence (or something, I don't intend to write a full fanfic here), the toys come across Stinky Pete. The very same. Out of his box and has CLEARLY been played with but has since gone on to be a lost toy when the girl had no more use for him. To the toys' surprise, he has an entirely new world view. Don't get me wrong, I reckon he'd still be a little bit bitter. Kind of like an angry old man. But he can at least now understand Woody's viewpoints. Stinky Pete informs the toys of whatever Lotso would have been getting up to. In return, the toys allow him to stay for just a little bit.
    Along the way, Woody, Bo, Buzz and everyone else delve into Stinky Pete a little bit more and in-turn delve into Lotso and the psychology of these kinds of toys. The ones that never had exposure to love and the ones that had it and lost it. When the toys eventually somehow do confront Lotso (I don't know, like I said, I'm not here to make a whole plot), Stinky Pete might be able to redeem himself by trying to get through to Lotso and relate to him on a personal level. Lotso might consider it briefly, but ultimately goes against it, showing he hasn't changed like Stinky Pete has. For the first time, we might be able to see one of the many ways a toy can actually DIE. I think it would be a good idea to give Lotso a grim fate, to actually KILL him off. We've never really seen a toy properly die before. We've seen what they can become, but never die. Anyway, Lotso dies and Stinky Pete redeems himself. It's essentially a story about ALL of the things that the toys have come to learn. It gives a redemption ark for Stinky Pete (since I reckon he can be redeemed) and it teaches a lesson that there are people like Lotso out there who will simply never change. Not because they can't, but because they don't want to or can't be bothered to make the change and consequences arise because of it. It delves into themes of what more there is than just being a toy for kids, expanding on the themes of (dare I say it) Toy Story 4 about how there is more for a toy after giving up on being there for a child.
    Heck, I think it'd be cool to see Sid come back as a character and actually INTERACT with the toys. Since he knows that the toys are alive, I think it would be cool to see Sid briefly help the toys out to see how he has changed. Maybe he could run a small workshop where he restores toys and stuff! (Yes, I know he's a garbage guy in the 3rd movie, but come on. A guy can have a hobby.) I think it'd be cool to see his creativity from the first movie and repurposed into skills on how to restore toys. Toys like Stinky Pete.
    Anyway, those are my ideas for a Toy Story 5 if they ever make one and how to actually make it MEANINGFUL and brings all the movies full-circle by bringing back old characters and making them new. Much like Sid might do in his free time.

Its because the characters became unlikable and their characteristics got assasinated. Same goes with Toy Story 4:
      Woody leaves Bonnie over her not playing with him for 3 days. Despite her CLEARLY playing with Woody in the movie, in the RV scene, he thinks Bonnie doesnt care about him. Woody's character was all about being loyal to his kid, and he didn't care about playtime. He cared about always being there for his kid. Didn't matter if it was Andy or Bonnie.
      Buzz became dumb, despite his intelligence in the past 3 movies where he made elaborate plans to save Woody. Buzz relies on his buttons in the 4th as his "inner voice" despite him understanding what those buttons do in the past 3 movies.
      Jessie stayed in the RV, while Buzz tries to save Woody despite being quite adventurous and always tags along. She also was hyperventillating in the closet despite overcoming her phobia in a Toy Story short.

But it was time to break that dogma and evolve his character. It is the realization that it doesn’t have to be him specifically that’s there for Bonnie. And he doesn’t need to be the one organizing all the toys. He realized that the toys with Bonnie can survive without him (unlike where he was the leader in Andy’s room). Yet, Woody knows that would be unfulfilling for him to stay in a closet and not lead AND not be played with.
      And maybe he deserves a little bit of his own happiness, and that it’s possible to do that without a kid.
      Woody has always been this dutiful character. And he goes out saving this random spork knowing that spork is to Bonnie as Woody was to Andy.

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin Рік тому

      I may not hate the fourth film, but I do feel like the downside to that film is now it slightly damages the incinerator scene in TS3. Before 4, the scene actually felt very intense and dire for the toys and you almost felt like they were about to die, especially since we’ve gotten to know and fall in love with them for 2 films prior and the moment they accept their inevitable death by holding hands and closing their eyes is powerful. That’s why it made the scene where the Aliens rescue them with the claw much more of a surprise and a great moment of relief. Unfortunately, now with the 4th in existence, the incinerator scene doesn’t feel as intense or dire anymore for the toys or the viewers feel relieved when they’re rescued just when they’re seemingly about to die and there appears to be no escape because now you KNOW they’re going to make it out alive in the end. It’s even worse for a first time viewer watching the films because now they KNOW with the 4th film following afterwards they’ll make it out ok, thus lessening the fear and sadness you felt for the toys in that moment.

    In general a sequel is in the best position to make a good movie. The world has all been established by the previous movie so now you get to go on an adventure in that world that is not bogged down by world building. Also, seeing the results of the first movie being made permanent is also really cool.

    I would still have to say that the Married Life scene in Up is the most famous scene in Pixar's lineup, and perhaps their best scene period, but Jessie's history scene is also iconic. And the Finding Dory car chase *wishes* it had the magic that Toy Story 2's has.
    Toy Story 2 is an excellent sequel and an excellent movie, indeed. I have fond memories of watching it when I was younger, and since then I've heard stories about how the whole movie was almost deleted and that the team was lucky that they had a backup off-site - we're fortunate that this movie exists at all and that it turned out as good as it did.
    Anyways, great video!

  • @jajproductionsfruitcakefil8489

    Toy Story 2 might as well have been on continual repeat in my house when I was younger for the amount of times I watched it. I was a big Buzz Lightyear fan, so all that Buzz-centric action was what made me prefer it to Toy Story 1 at the time, but it is one of those glorious films that just gets better as you get older. On my latest rewatch, I was struck by how much actually happens in it, but despite that it never feels like it's overpacked or too busy. As you said, nearly every scene is so iconic. Great video.
    (Also, I have never watched Toy Story 4 and never plan to, so I'm... not glad as such, but feel validated by your opinion of it that I'm doing the right thing. Kinda like Lightyear though, but that's only because I chose to believe that the opening card that says it's the film Andy saw isn't there. In my head, it's a reboot/reimagining.)

    one thing i was carly impressed by was the direction of the movie. i was actually rewatching it today and i never realized how brilliant the he direction is. i want to specifically point out the transitions. they really helped sell the movie in the way they can be both funny and beautiful by moving the story along in seamless and fun ways. the way buzz gave his speech to make sure the other toys don’t give up and american flag starts to show up behind him. and then cut to black and white because it’s showing that it’s the tv now it transitioned to woodys storyline where al is asleep watching tv. like it made sense to out the flag behind buzz as he’s giving this soldier esque speech and then keep the flag but change to black and white because now it goes to woody because they are on the mission already to rescue woody. just so genius. and even the way emily plays with jessie and the way emily plays with her and the transitions occurs as she’s playing with jessie. revealing her backstory in such a beautiful heartbreaking way. and the way the transitions just show that fun that they had to then the loss that jessie experiences as she’s soonest forgotten, every just sort of vanishing now. this movie just had so much love and thought put into it. you can really feel that child like entity within this film by how it was made and told. that sense of wonder we all dream of recapturing from our youths was truly captured in this film.

    Given how Toy Story 2 was also going to be very different from its final product its actually surprising how the first 2 films so far, had such changed stories.
    Toy Story 1 had Woody more antagonistic, deliberately chucking Buzz out the window, saying more "deadly" threats to him about Sid, his toys, and to Woody himself. The cut story of "Shakes the Rattle" who was found by Sid, after falling out the window years ago, and tortured and torn apart while his friend had to watch this happen.
    Slinky would change his loyalty to Woody early in too, shortly after Woody throws Buzz, insults Slink and everyone else. There was even the cut scene from RC to the Rescue with Woody taking a bad ass route and "taming" Scud and riding him like a wild horse.
    Toy Story 2 was to have a WHOLE story change, having a cactus lady character as one of the antagonists turned hero and the climax be on a bridge speeding down a highway.
    Its just amazing how after the first one changed, the second one completely changed and ended up as one of the greatest installments in a movie Trilogy ever

      Funny that both films released in a pretty good decade for pop culture and a revolutionary time too:
      1. Toy Story released in 1995 just one year after Reboot the cgi Canadian cartoon became the first fully syndicated cgi cartoon in 1994. In the same year of 1995, Sony debuted the PlayStation and we’d see that cgi becoming more mainstream is moving fast
      2. Toy Story 2 released in 1999 and thus the final year of the 90’s. By the time it came out, Nintendo put out the N64 in 1996, but Disney was winding down w their Renaissance with Hunchback in 96, Hercules in 97, Mulan in 98 and Tarzan in 99. The Disney Renaissance had ended but at the time, it’d almost was the end of Toy Story too for all any of us knew.

    I appreciate that someone finally says that pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides is a good movie because even though not having nothing related to William Turner it still handles very well the story of Jack Sparrow. Many people take issue with the ending because Jack doesn’t get the Black Pearl back, but that it is because the original ending, were it was implied that Jack could have easily broken out the Black Pearl out from the bottle and was just about to free it since why would it even be promised as a reward if he couldn’t get the ship back in a simple way, was retconned by Dead man tells no tales were Jack wasn’t able to get the Pearl back and got it back only thanks to Barbossa.

      That wasn’t retconned; What do you expect? If the ship was captured by Black Beard, then obviously it would be no easy way other than through him and his sword to actually be able to free it. Angelica was Bribing Jack because she genuinely Knew that he could help them and would be motivated in helping them and Jane we thought that in exchange Blackbeard would give him the pear And did not expect Blackbeard to die etc.

      @@SuperMoviemaster21 Blackbeard would NEVER give back the Pearl to Jack even if he helped him, he was antagonistic to him the whole time and made him perform stunts that almost killed him. Angelica perfectly knew that and that’s the reason why she bribed Jack in secret and she wouldn’t have bribed Jack Sparrow in the first place with the Black Pearl if it to be freed it would have required Blackbeard’s magic. In the world of Pirates of the Caribbean it was always extablished that the pirates knew many people who could use magic hell even Blackbeard says that his quartermaster can see though the future, in the second and third movie there was Calypso who imitated a human magician and even in the terrible fifth movie Barbossa has to visit an other magician movie to decide what to do. There is no excuse for Jack in the fifth movie for Jack not getting back the Black Pearl. Even in the ending of the fourth movie he was very confident that he could have easily have gotten back his ship and even if he required Blackbeard’s magic there is still absolutely no excuse for him not asking Barbossa since he helped him a lot in the fourth movie and he surely would have given back the Black Pearl since Barbossa has the better Blackbeard’s ship and that’s exactly what happens in the fifth movie where he gives Jack the Black Pearl for free and even in the first movie Barbossa was willing to give up the Black Pearl to Jack Sparrow for a small fee of 20% for every pirating act and in exchange for the admiral British ship. And if you are telling me that Jack is afraid of paying that fee and prefers a small ship with wich he has no success, that is still incredibly dumb besides he is even suprised in the fifth movie that Barbossa could free his ship so he wasn’t even considering as an option to ask help to Barbossa because he doesn’t think he can help him despite knowing that he has Blackbeard’s powers making Jack Sparrow again incredibly stupid. In the end Jack Sparrow being so dumb for not getting back the Black Pearl and himself giving up the Compass knowing full well of the curse is basically a character assassination because in the first four movies Jack Sparrow was the most intelligent character who faked being dumb while in the fifth movie he is actually dumb. Of course the writers of the fourth movie knew fully well that Jack Sparrow is intelligent because he is in character all throughout the movie while the writers of the fifth movie think that Jack Sparrow is stupid because he acts in a stupid manner all throughout the film so I am pretty confident in saying that Jack not being able to get back the Black Pearl easily off screen is a retcon that character assassinates his intelligent character.

      @@davidbraccini4770 Well, to truly think critically about it, Captain Jack did not want to take the risk of asking Barbosa, even with all that you said, As the movie itself shows that Barbosa took over the pearl once again even though he already had that supposed Better ship you stated. He probably initially had that confidence, but after a while of trying things out, realize that it wasn’t able to work out, and among other things just simply gave up, with all of this attributing to why he was acting so out of character; even for someone as crafty as Captain Jack, eventually we all have a breaking point Where it just drains so much out of us, and unfortunately has us make poor choices. At least when you take into account all of this it actually makes very natural sense no matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem

      @@SuperMoviemaster21 First of all the reason why Barbossa took the Black Pearl was because in that moment he was trying to deal with recently resuscitated thanks to Jack Sparrow captain Salazar, who had captured and clearly not sank Queen Ann’s revenge since the ship was speared, and once Salazar would have been defeated if Barbossa would have still been alive he would have returned to Queen Ann’s revenge and even if it was destroyed offscreen, wich is unlikely since the ship was spared and Barbossa made a deal with Salazar, he would have built a new cursed ship with his magic like The Queen Ann since The Black Pearl wasn’t fully a cursed ship and he clearly would have given back the ship to Jack since they don’t have any hostilities anymore and have been allies for two movies. Hell worse case scenario for Jack he has to pay a 20% fee to Barbossa. Second of all Jack didn’t even think it was possible for Barbossa despite having Blackbeard’s power to get back the Pearl so he didn’t ask Barbossa to free the ship because he was too dumb to figure it out wich character assassinates him. And if he knew that Barbossa could help get back the Black Pearl but doesn’t out of pride (Despite the Fifth movie showing Jack suprised that Barbossa can help him) that is still dumb and a character assassination because instead of getting 80% of a big treasure he gets 0% with a small ship as shown in the fifth movie. And again it’s ludicrous that Jack Sparrow couldn’t find a magician that could help him take back the Black Pearl, like the one that Barbossa goes to in the fifth movie, and this makes him retroactively dumb and stupid in the fourth movie, therefore character assassinating a previously very intelligent character, for accepting Angelica’s offer without asking how to get the Black Pearl back and thinking that he can get the Black Pearl back easily.

      @@davidbraccini4770 You are making a lot of grand assumptions here without Truly thinking critically about it. If Barbosa does not have any hostility towards Captain Jack’s, then why Does he tie Captain Jack up after they release the pearl? And again immediately taking over as captain without consulting or considering Captain Jack’s feelings towards it? Per the end of on Stranger tides, Captain Jack assumed various ways of being able to open the pearl from the bottle, also at that point having the bag full of Ships that he apparently lost to Barbosa per the latter having such a fleet when we first Meet him in the fifth movie. Who is to say that Captain Jack did not try to go to Barbosa but refused And took the rest of the fleet with him; this may be subtly hinted out when the two first come across each other in the fifth movie Per their slight interactions And again Barbosa’s later actions towards Captain Jack when they re obtain the pearl, And or again went to another magical person, but they weren’t able to do that, again hence why Captain Jack gave up so easily because I mean whenever you go through all of that and are still not able to get it, It’s not uncommon not to mention not not being human to give up. And as evidenced by the movie, regardless of how messy and how much else bad may happen, sometimes giving up can lead you on the path to success eh?
      And going back to that, Just because we don’t see it in the movie, does that mean they didn’t do all those things you’re saying they should’ve done, as Fifth movie takes place over a year after on Stranger tides at least, so a lot Has happened that we don’t know about And can read between the lines of, like you’re ironically doing here but misguidedly

    It's official I am now following you on UA-cam. I was enjoying the video so much as it was going along but when I heard Pikmin music in the background, that's how I know this channel is good and this video is underrated.

    Fox and the Hound is harder not to cry than even Jessie’s memories of Emily. Seriously, the scene with old woman talking about her time with Todd is basically torture.
