I did a daily gratitude for my husband for a year. Each day I wrote something I appreciated about him on a colored scrap of paper. It could have been something specific, or something general about his temperament or personality. I folded the paper in half and put it in a jar that I kept hidden in my closet for a year! Then on Christmas I gave him the jar stuffed full of notes. It changed my life and his! Anytime he needs a little pick me up, he goes to the jar and reads a few notes.

My favorite journaling prompt is “what is the best mistake I made today?” Because it helps me to gain perspective on my perfectionism and to appreciate that the most valuable moments, interactions and insights are often the result of a mistake I made earlier. Like: leaving home late caused me to miss the train but as a result I ran into a friend I hadn’t spoken with in a while. It helps me to be a little less judgmental of myself and better appreciate things I had previously taken for granted :)

I am now 21 years old and I have been journalling (on and off) for at least 6 years now. I genuinely believe that journalling is what made me the person I am today! One fun thing I like to do is to write "level 1" entries in a foreign language I am learning. I am not a native English speaker, so that was the first language I experimented with. Throughout the years I have then journaled in French, Spanish, German and Turkish. Writing about your day in a foreign language is such an incredible exercise that requires minimal time and effort but will ultimately boost your language skills!!

I journal everyday and I create art journals to give and to sell to others on Etsy. I find that people find it easier to start a journal when it is not a blank page but it has images and interactive places (like tags and tuck spots). It is easier to start to write or color or glue in bits of your life into a creative journal. I am 73 years old and am just starting a youtube channel to show my journals. Today, I discovered how to make a video with my phone. I have so much more to learn but I felt inspired by your videos. Keep up the exciting work.

My journal is my best friend, I take it everywhere in my bag at all times, and say I'm alone at the mall or the park, I take it out and track my feelings, I write about the surrounding things, I write my feelings, I use it to check in with myself. I've been keeping a diary since I was about 13, and then went off and on for a while until 2021. (I'm on journal #13 for this year), and I think my most important prompt is, "how are you, really?" I tend to mask my emotions because I am known to be a people pleaser, but having an outlet to just actually let out what I'm feeling, it's great.

Thank you Ali - my takeaway actions for this are:
    1. Re-introduce Morning Pages into my daily routine. I used to do it, dropped the habit somewhere in the middle of uni, and now that I've graduated and am very aware that this is my life and it's happening now, I think I'll find a lot of value by bringing it back.
    2. Try the 'I Appreciate...' exercise with my partner. We moved in together a month ago, and it can be so easy to take for granted how amazing that person is when they're around all the time. This seems like it will give me a bit of time to focus on some of the things I appreciate about my person :)
    3. Try to build some form of journalling about future decisions/actions into my life: I have never really done this but it seems like a healthier alternative to the long debates I have in my head whenever I face a big decision! Will definitely take a look at your journalling prompts to see if any resonate, thanks as always for your openness with this stuff Ali.
And if you've read this comment, have a great rest of your day!

    Takings:-
    1. I have to write it down what I am feeling and what leads me to that feeling.
    2. Actions I need to take for becoming better version of myself by putting question to my inner self.
    3. Appreciate your ownself first and other also for all goods even a little one that happended in a day.
    4. Focus on your internl circumstances and positivity and not on outer circumstances which are not in your control.
    5. Bonus point- Take a step or manifest to attract goods in your life, because thoughts are the reason for every feeling and feeling leads to action and action converts into result.

I’ve found that creating a habit at the end of each month for the life categories bit really helps to assess what you can change the next month. I also do the “5 years from now” prompt at the start of every year and halfway through the year to assess and create goals, which I then break down into what I want to accomplish each month, then each week, then what that looks like day-to-day. All of these prompts and exercises make sure that I’m not floating through life and then I blink and 10 years has gone by without intention.
This is one of the few journaling videos I’ve seen that doesn’t have the same hashed out, repeated advice, and I really appreciate the scientific studies! I love the simplified frameworks.

"What would my life look life if I didn't do the thing that I know I could easily succeed ["not in 1 attempt, but eventually I can"] but I'm not doing because of other people's perception of my failure".
Then, I realised that One day I'm gonna die, so it's pointless to take other's opinion into account. So, the only opinion matters is our own.

I spent years stuck on the first level of journalling - describing my day and what I did - and really didn't enjoy it. I didn't stick with a journal for long at all, and it was more of a chore than a tool for helping me. After experimenting with different methods a few years ago, I realised it was because I was writing the journal as if it would be read by someone else - so not only was I trying to get everything down in a way that was readable and sequential and detailed, which is tedious, but I was imaging this judgment of the non-existent reader. Switching to just writing about what was on my mind and processing my thoughts was so incredibly freeing and helpful, and now I'm a regular journaler!

I know this may sound silly, but i find it really useful to help me begin writing. Most of us are busy day-in day-out and we lost ourselves in the mundane easily. "How are you" helps to bring the focus back to ourselves and you will be surprise how good that makes you feel at the end of your journal of the day! Cheers!

I will certainly adopt the three-level framework as a starting point for my journaling journey, recognizing the need for periodic revisitation.

I love journaling about the things I get done today. But not only productivity things, but also like: I took a break on the couch, when I needed one. I tend to do many things throughout the day but I forget them or tell myself, that it wasn't enough. And actually seeing them and appreciating them, helped me so much.

I want to try all of the prompts and will do them gradually. One additional prompt i would want to journal on is - what is something i did today which i didn't like. Because i want to be conscious of the things i do that upset me, let me down and make it difficult to like myself. Ideally i shouldn't be doing such things, but then atleast taking note might help me be more conscious

Salam Ali, thanks again for another wonderful video. Honestly I'm 31 and I've started journaling ever since I was about 16 or 18 and it did help me much with some misconceptions about myself and make better decisions. But Later after getting my degree my notes mostly went around my feelings and being lost not knowing what to do...etc so I had to stop and I've been on and off ever since. I've been itching to restart this habit and you gave me a little push so I'm grateful . Thanks again. I'm working my way to stop procrastinating and just change my attitude to things, also improve wherever due.

Thanks for the journaling prompts, Ali! I’m really setting my mind to getting organized and managing my time better this year. I’ve been journaling my whole life, doing Level 1 and Level 2 stuff and making lots of to do lists for a long time now. It’s helpful no doubt, but I’m ready to optimize it. I love the suggestion to follow prompts that lead you to think deeply so that your actions can be more in line with the vision of your life. The Solomon’s Paradox prompt struck a chord with me. I have had many radiantly happy and generous loving elders in my life over the years, when I think what they would tell say or how they make me feel, it sets everything straight. There’s no longer a disconnect between who I am now and the vision of who I will be when I’m 85. We are aligned. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

And we can build a habit of writing, it is a bit difficult but it is not a big deal, thing is that you just need to organise a fine plan breakdown it into smaller chunks that you think yes it is manageable I can do this, then try to work on it, in the start there is no need to write down three or four pages no you just need to build an habit, you just need to get start , you just start smaller steps first write half page, second day 1 page etc and you can follow this strategy to build habit, Ali has also explained it,
So do build a plan breakdown it into manageable tasks and work on it

Hi Ali, I'm a 28 years old Taiwan's office worker. I've been feeling burnt out in my current job and I'm considering a career change for this past couple of years. But I lack confidence in my learning ability, especially since I've always struggled with academics. I also feel afried of change, worrying about losting the current tranquility and familiarties, whitch makes me hesitate to move forward. I know I can't remian stagnate, so I've started to look for methods of self-exploration and change, and that's when I found your channel. I have a diary, but I've lacked the motivation to keep writing consistently, so I came across this video. I've truly learned a lot from your video, understanding how journal can help us organize our thoughts and engage in self-exploration. I will begin practicing Morning Pages and daily reflection starting from April, hoping to bring more focus and vitality into my life. I will also try the journal prompts you mentioned for self-exploration, to discover the life I truly desire. I will share my exprencens of journaling with you after one month, on May 1st, and ask for your help in reviewing whether I've made positive changes. See you on May1st!

I finished my graphic memoir of how I used my health and fitness knowledge to stop my mother with mild dementia from forgetting me, and it worked. I journaled every hour taking care of my mother and it taught me a tremendous amount including that I lived Steven Voker's hero journey like all caregivers do. I'm now working on my 2nd graphic memoir entitled "Why does my Sister hate me?" Those journals will be gold for that book. Thanks again.

I was drawing and painting about the themes of months. Even it helped me to improve my language skills. But later on my life, I started high school and needed to work harder about my classes, that's why I broke this habit, but it was a wrong decision, because these were the times I felt the most depressive and struggled with mental and physical health issues. A quick journal method I do is write a list of 3-10 items in the following categories: Thankfuls, “Prouds,” Pains/Prayers, Questions.
    Thankfuls- self-explanatory!
Prouds- things I’m proud I did. It’s a celebration/acknowledgment of small or big things and reminds me of the control I have over my life & actions. It’s been especially helpful when I’ve been depressed. Eg. made my bed, brushed my teeth, washed the dishes when I didn’t feel like it.
Pains/Prayers - things I worry about of people I’m thinking of
Questions- what am I wondering about
I think people would benefit from listing their “Prouds.” I don’t hear that talked about much.

Might be, but if you actually phrase it properly while writing it down, it gives us more clarity than just thinking about it in this way. Usually, the scenario is that "My future self would want me to put in some work now but I just don't feel like it." If we actually write it down while journaling it is more likely to keep us accountable.

I've been quite inconsistent with it, but hey, you can't just build a habit in a day or two, so I'll just take it slow with this one. My favorite question lately has been "What does your ideal day looks like?" How you want to live your day is ultimately how you want to live your life. So this question really got me thinking about who I want to be with, what I want to do for the rest of MY life.

The last prompt I really liked was « What is my favorite photo of the last month? ». It forced me to look intentionally at all my pictures and understand what were my emotions behind and why.

I started journaling few months ago. I was simply writing how I spent my day and before falling asleep I was thinking about things I'm grateful to God for. It really made my life much better. But today, when I watched your video, I saw that I can go even better. I loved your questions for journaling, especially the one about "what will happen if the worst case scenario happens?". It made me think of my fears, and then I started to think that even if the worst case scenario happens, my fear of this and that is not that big deal, it was just me making it look really dangerous and scary and there's actually nothing that much scary to be afraid of. Thank you for this video, your content really helps me to selfimprove.

Thank you for your time and energy to offer guidance in journaling!
I have a journal by my living room chair where I jot down my plans/expectations for the day. even if i know it’s going to be a crappy day I assure myself that I can/will get through it. I also have a journal by my bed that I write about what happened during the day. That is where I give myself forgiveness if I did not finish a task that I thought I could accomplish.
